Of course it's a huge hyperbole! It's just hard to drink so much soda in one go, if you've ever drank soda you know how it is! :) The fizz is intense, but the feeling goes away in a few seconds, so of course it didn't affect his vocal chords.
@Temichen77 chocolate is too sweet. can't you tell your throat hurts a little when you eat chocolate? mine does. i have a family friend who is a vocal teacher and he said singers cant drink cold beverage all the time or eat chocolate because its bad for the throat.
