Athletic Tape vs Monkey Tape for BJJ Training (How to Tape Fingers)

  • Taping fingers is a pretty common thing in BJJ. It can be a valuable thing to save our fingers from aching after a Brazilian Jiujitsu training session.
    I've had several questions regarding How to tape fingers and recently one of my students gave me a roll of Monkey Tape. Which is specifically for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and grapplers.
    I've never used it before. But I figured I'd put it to the test with a light training session and then check it out later on during a heavy training session.
    In this video I give a couple of ways I like to tape my fingers for BJJ and I include some silly stuff from our morning class and some clips from the rolling afterwards.
    At the end after our BJJ training was finished I show how the ace athletic tape held up to the monkey tape.
    All in all, it's solid tape that compares to good quality athletic tape. I was satisfied with how it held up.
    Thanks for watching!

      glad you clarified the part about the wedding ring, otherwise I would think she liked your knuckles for another reason.

    Can you please do a video on the arm bar at 4:49 into the video! looked awesome! even just a solid explanation for using it. looked like a set up from a half guard pass & back step into arm bar...

    • @eternalelitist1936
      @eternalelitist1936 7 років тому +3

      It's from a knee cut/slice position when your opponent traps your foot preventing the pass. You get here often from passing open guards and it's common to do a knee slice after breaking closed guard.
      People usually back "kick" their opponents top thigh to get out of being stuck, but this is a way to get out by threatening an arm bar.

    I’m pretty new to bjj, so I’ve seen a few videos on taping fingers and whatnot but I haven’t properly figured out when I should actually tape my fingers.. is it like precautionary so your fingers don’t get to fucked up or is it more for afterwards to support them and help them heal? Any and all answers are appreciated

    Question about the fingers in the pant sleeves being illegal. Does that apply when you grab your own pant leg in a similar fashion? I ask because I was working on the triangle choke once and my hip was tight and I couldn't reach my shin/ankle to pull my leg closer and was able to by grabbing my pant sleeve by reaching in like that. Just curious as that particular scenario is no longer an issue as my flexibility has improved since then.

    Quick question. If it's completely acceptable to use your gi as a weapon (for chokes, etc), why is it not OK to use your belt as a weapon? Why are there no moves designed around using your belt to choke someone? Why is one OK and the other not? Just something I've been thinking about.

    • @Augustin54
      @Augustin54 7 років тому

      hrosemd probably because the belt is totally removable and often comes undone by itself

    I'm a new white belt and 5 days ago I ended up with a mallet finger. Not sure how exactly...I didn't feel it happen and only noticed it when I looked at my hand while rolling. I suspect a combo of using a closed grip and death gripping my partner's gi. Something I'm working on but this time it got me. Anyways...any tips other than easing up on the death grip, learning how to just let go, and using a more open grip when possible...to preventing this from happening again? Any taping methods that will help more than others? No gi isn't an option...we train mostly gi with a little bit of no gi now and then. But I also prefer gi so I don't want to give that up.
