I luv your Work, very inspirational for me, as I've been forced into a medical retirement and love woodworking. I enjoy watching the aspect of your channel from the getting and milling of the lumber to the final projects the lumber becomes.
There are so many techniques I pick up from your projects. I like this one because you don’t have to spend $600 on wood to get started. I think your Highboy project is the best value in woodworking training. Even if I won’t ever make a piece of furniture that elaborate, I can still use the techniques on my other projects. Thanks, Matt!
Matt, I've said it before and I'll say it again: you are on a very different level in woodworking! The amount of skill, knowledge and patience you put into your projects is amazing. I would love to be able to do what you do...maybe one day 😀
Sweet Christmas. These are beautiful. This is why I love your channel. In one video there's milling. In another, you create beautiful pieces such as these. Fantastic work.
Well done boxes, Matt. The locking mechanism was a great feature to add to the tea box as the tea, and I believe the spices, were always locked up in the past.
Wow your skill makes creating these boxes look deceptively easy. Love seeing you lay out and explain the cuttings. Also your attention to making grain match at the corners. I liked how the cherry box grain looked but the effect of the walnut grain at the corners is absolutely beautiful. As someone who experimented with cutting bottles as a kid I can attest to the being fully vested in the moment of truth of breaking the glass. Thank you for sharing.
Ah, pre-finishing. I've been building very similar boxes and dealing with squeeze out on the inaccessible inside of the box has been a problem for me. Glad I watched this! Thanks Matt!
Love them Matt. I worry about your need to lock up your tea. I really do not need to lock my Lipton Tea bags up. I'll gladly share. GREAT box though ... It needs a way to lock/secure it to the wall or something so people won't steal IT.
Now I want to make a walnut box like this for my cards against humanity. Maybe with an inlay in the top that says "Card Against Humanity" Either with Maple or Ebony.
Matt, I've not seen this answered on your other videos, but is the wood you are using air or kiln dried? I have a few thousand bf of slabs I have cut, wondering how dry I need to get them for various projects. (and should I treat the pine with boracare before bringing inside!)
Awesome boxes! I especially like the spice box design, very nice!! A couple of questions, though. Does the chisel you’re using at 8:24 have a rounded profile or is my eyesight just that terrible? If so, what type of chisel is that?
Another set of excellent projects and informative videos. Thanks for sharing. Nice haircut!!! BTW, what style and make are the rasps/files you used in this video?
Was it difficult to calculate the size of the interior boxes? I'm thinking it was a matter of material size of the box walls times 2 for each box and divide what was left of the overall length divided by however many boxes span the interior?
So, no dry insertion on the crotch box, It just gets the thick one where you need to clean up the squeeze out afterwards?! 🤔 .... Well designed Matt, nice use of splines! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
I like the combination of larger and smaller splines in the corner joints. The individual spice boxes need sealing covers. The herbs and spices will lose their flavor and fragrance if they are exposed to air.
If I put nine boxes in my nine boxes I will have room for 81 more boxes. Pretty useful if you have to move and need a lot of boxes. ...what were we talking about again?
Whats the best way to get the inside boxes the perfect size? I'm going to attempt this and am 100% sure the inside boxes aren't going to all fit perfectly. What's your secret?
Holy crap! I've been using spoons wrong my whole life! I had no idea they were used for scooping and dumping! Now, I'll be able to eat soup in public! 😂
They look great Matt! I'd really love to do a collaboration with you or even just help out with some of your projects (I'm just north of the Twin Cities) is there any way I could contact you?
I always said I'd only make big things, furniture, book cases...then I made a small box from scraps and now people are telling me to "Think outside the box". But boxes are fun!!
How in the hell do you resaw so easily? Mine always looks like I hacked it apart with a hatchet. I do love the sped up cricket in the background though. Nice touch,
“And just like that these boxes are done!” Did you try using that line on Marc? Ignore his whining, I’m fully in favor of you taking all the time you want.
Am I the only one marveling at the free hand lines drawn? 😅 Brilliant work a always! 🤩

Thank you!
Great job on both boxes. You are a true master of the craft. It's always a pleasure to watch and learn from you.
thank you Steve!
The addition of the small splines in your joints was an excellent touch. Great contrast . very nice ...

And.un.til.next.time. Great stuff. Loved those Itty bitty splines from the hand saw.
Thanks!
I like the “thicknesser” label. Can never be to careful! Beautiful work as always
Doing what I can to appease the Brits
Matthew Cremona next you’ll be learning French!
I knew we would make an Anglophile of you Matt, great boxes by the way.
Thing is, it doesn’t make things thicker. Should be called a Thinnesser.
@@Artrcb That's exactly what I was gonna say!
Never mind the Brits, Matt. Give all your machines German names!
What took me 12 minutes to watch took you many, many hours to do. Very impressive.
thanks!
Outstanding job. Precision fit all the way around.
thanks!
Love the design decision to allow space for the scoop.
Very Nice Boxes Matt! I like the individual boxes within the larger box. Awesome Design!
thanks!
Love watching your videos you have great skill so wished I had some of your bigger tools
Regards
Steve London UK
Thanks Steve!
Fantastic, Matt! I'm not sure which one I like best. I really like the glass on the cherry one, but I'm a sucker for all of that walnut figure too.
exactly the dilemma
Great job Matt, have a nice day !!!.
Thanks!
Awesome craftsmanship!
thanks Joe!
This would make a great watch box.
I love the decorative splines.
Matt those turned out amazing. Great work brother.
thank you!
Matt, you crack me up. looking forward to making these!
Thanks joe!
Thank you for the video that was great to see it from beginning to end I also enjoyed the individual videos God bless y’all
Thank you!
Once again beautiful job. Awesome video.
Beautiful looking boxes matt! Love that burl veneer!
Thanks joe!
Nice Work, How did you make the small splines, interesting concept
Beautiful wood and great finished product. I’m getting ready to tackle your saw mill build. Wish me luck!
Thanks for all your inspiration
Mark
Good luck! Thanks mark!
Beautiful builds, they look great.
thank you!
Nice! Seems like a very satisfying project to make. Thank you for sharing this.
thanks mike!
Nice job keep up the wood turnings
What did you find to be the best dimensions and wood thickness to be for the cherry box?
Love them Matt. I worry about your need to lock up your tea. I really do not need to lock my Lipton Tea bags up. I'll gladly share. GREAT box though ... It needs a way to lock/secure it to the wall or something so people won't steal IT.
Beautiful builds. I thought the purple shorts near the beginning were a nice touch too.
gotta build fashionably
Now I want to make a walnut box like this for my cards against humanity. Maybe with an inlay in the top that says "Card Against Humanity" Either with Maple or Ebony.
Matt, will the interior finish affect the taste of the tea and spices?
So cool! I noticed you slide the splines in at 6:30. Is there a reason for that or am I reading into it?
Too weak to go in any other way
Great stuff Matt!
I would have no chance at making 9 equal sized boxes fit that space so perfectly. I tip my hat to you.
I have to give credit to my assistant: mr stop block
Matt, As always, excellent work!
thanks Mac!
Beautiful work!
Loved watching the whole process...cheers...rr Normandy
Thanks Richard!

Super nice boxes!

Nice Paul Bunyun and Babe the Blue Ox tshirt.
They are beautiful.
Отличная работа!👍
Very interesting Matt. I learnt a lot, thanks!
Thank you!
So many great tips! The boxes look gorgeous!! Gotta love that crotch!
Thanks!
Amazing work as always - great inspiration. Thank you
thank you!
The varnish used, is that a food grade/safe product for holding the spices?
With all the crap we breathe in and things we stuff down our gullet...it's probably good
Awesome boxes! I especially like the spice box design, very nice!! A couple of questions, though. Does the chisel you’re using at 8:24 have a rounded profile or is my eyesight just that terrible? If so, what type of chisel is that?
It does. Ashley Iles Round Back. Thanks!
Wow what a great project 😜👍🏼 that got my mind roling like having a maketerie top 😙😍 !!! 🇨🇦
Very nice Matthew!
thanks!
Very nice work as always

Another set of excellent projects and informative videos. Thanks for sharing. Nice haircut!!!
BTW, what style and make are the rasps/files you used in this video?
Thank you! That is a 10" Gramercy
@@mcremona Would you consider a video on the types and uses of those type rasps and files?
@@jlf1430 Well I just have the one so I guess that would be an excuse to buy some more
@@mcremona Sponsors!!!
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
Nice looking. But if the spice box lids are not tight under the glass things will get mixed up.
Was it difficult to calculate the size of the interior boxes? I'm thinking it was a matter of material size of the box walls times 2 for each box and divide what was left of the overall length divided by however many boxes span the interior?
Adjust a stop block until three test cuts gets the combined length just right.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing!
thanks!

Matt-what was the General Finish you used on the boxes? I was trying to read the can but couldn’t make it out. Thanks!
Greetings from turkey. enjoy your meal

I would like to learn how you make the guides for the table saw. Do you have any videos on that?
very cool build
Great work as usual.
Based on the audio, it sounds as if your cricket 'went away'?
The cold weather helps with that. Thanks!
I like the combination of larger and smaller splines in the corner joints.

Great job Matt! Those are beautiful, and functional too! :-)
Thanks!

Pretty useful if you have to move and need a lot of boxes.
...what were we talking about again?
nice box .... i like it
please provide a link to where I can purchase some Walnut Crotch Spice, it sounds like an improvement on the crotch spice I've been using.
Nice work!
thanks!
beautiful 👍💯💯👏 ♥ ️, greetings from Italy friend
thank you!
Whats the best way to get the inside boxes the perfect size? I'm going to attempt this and am 100% sure the inside boxes aren't going to all fit perfectly. What's your secret?
You didn’t put the walnut box on the fancy rotary table!
They look great
Always look forward to you videos.
hahaha It doesn't get any special treatment. Thanks!
do you see any problems with wood movement as the top is a solid piece?
Yes so it’s floating
@@mcremona yes, but with the relativly thin walls, there cant be a lot of room left for movement in the groove
Holy crap! I've been using spoons wrong my whole life! I had no idea they were used for scooping and dumping! Now, I'll be able to eat soup in public! 😂

I do love the sped up cricket in the background though. Nice touch,
Carbide blade - no BS. Thanks!
Job well done. 👍
thanks!
Nice and spicy build!
I have no idea what crotch spice is but I am checking Amazon to see if they have some.
Since your "thicknesser" actually thins the wood, maybe it should really be called a "thinnerer"...?
Thinnesser.
How does the lid stay opened at that angle ?
Those ones are stop hinges
@@mcremona Thanks for reply.......link for more details on these type of hinges, please.

Awesome 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Gib!
“And just like that these boxes are done!” Did you try using that line on Marc? Ignore his whining, I’m fully in favor of you taking all the time you want.
I like how it’s gone from just make sure you release one video a week to what’s taking so long 😂
You need to do a collab with Izzy to make that rotary table drill powered.
"thermally modified Ash"? What does this mean?
That it's been heat treated (baked, basically). It caramelizes the wood, making it a lot darker.
