Me watching this video after cluelessly ordering kneepads off some rando amazon site: 👁👄👁
saameee
We’re they good ?
@@dulcemaldonado1301 actually yes
❤❤❤
Honestly you could just go through all the skating equipment and be good for answering a lot of practical questions. You did really good with the knee pads. Maybe toe stops next? I really dont like the ones my skates came with.
kristal burns great idea, thanks!
I concur.
I knee(ed) this video bought my first Moxie Skate’s on Friday.. Destiny bought me here ☺️lol.
Yessssss. Love the pun
Just incase my thunder thigh sisters were thinking about the lux pads, I bought the XL And I have 34 inch thighs. They roll a little, but they work! Super comfy
THANK YOU!! I was wondering
Thank you for your comment. I'm wondering what part of your thigh you measure? (Four knuckles above the knee? My research says this is how 🤷♀️?). Mine is 24 and that's enough bulk alone so I'm wondering which to get??🤦 Uh decisions
Where can I buy them?
Girl thank u…cause the way my shape is setup
Yay! Thank you for your comment🥰
i have a real problem with packs of protection gear too!!! my thighs are usually about a large while my elbows are medium and my wrists are sometimes smalls!
wyatt m yeah the more people I talk to I realize that a lot of people are like this! We are not alone!
I got cheap sets from Amazon just to try them. They came in "adult" ($20) or "Child" ($15). They recommended the child-sized for 4-8 year olds, my 18 year old is SKINNY so i figured they'd work for her...and they do. The elbow pads alone were worth it for the adult size. However, I'm 5' 2 1/4", around 130 pounds. The adult knee pads were so tight they hurt...those went to my 15 year old, who they fit perfectly...yet I can wear the "child" sized wrist guards! Either my body is very oddly shaped, or skate pads are just plain weird. Probably a little of both. LOL
Same!
the skating content I've been looking for!!!! I'm new to skating and finding the right pads has been a journey. This was so informative, ahhh I cannot thank you enough!!!!
I’d love if you talked about trucks next! I know next to nothing about them so how and when to adjust and what looser and tighter trucks are best for etc 😊 been loving your videos so far!
The Y3 or Y4 skate tools will both work for adjusting your trucks. How to tighten/loosen? It's the same as any other basic nut or screw - "lefty loosey, righty tighty". (I've been skating for 44 years, and even I still have to say that - out loud - now and then when I'm working on my skates. LOL)
When to adjust them? As soon as you get your skates. NO skate is meant to be skated "straight out of the box". Any decent pair of skates will come with an instruction sheet of sorts...a little checklist of things to do before skating on them...read through that! Anyway, the looseness or tightness really depends on the skater. Generally speaking, a tighter truck makes them a little more stable, but much less agile and vice versa. Just keep in mind that no 2 skaters will ever have their trucks adjusted exactly the same. It's really more of a personal preference.
I always tell friends/family, when you first get a pair of skates, tighten the trucks down as much as possible (front and back). Then, do a lap around the local rink or go outside and pick a short distance and skate from point A to point B and back. Loosen them 1/4 of a turn at a time, repeat the "lap". Keep doing that until you're comfortable with how they're set. You can adjust all 4 trucks at once or do the lap and only loosen the fronts OR backs...but you'll know what you like when you feel it, that is, when the skate responds how you want it to or are expecting it to.
You should check your trucks (axle lock nuts, and toe stops as well) at least every 2 months if you skate outdoor only, every 4 if you skate indoors and out, and every 6 months if you only skate indoors. Usually you will notice if they start to loosen or tighten on their own, but if you check them regularly, you can usually catch the problem before it actually *becomes* a problem. The last thing you want is your kingpin (or wheels or toe stop) falling off while you're skating.
As a kind of side note: If you notice the trucks (lock nuts or your toe stops) are starting to get loose frequently, you can use Loctite on them to secure them - the "Threadlocker Red 271" is best for skates. The threads often get stripped while skating outdoors, but it can happen if you only rink skate as well. Just the normal vibrations of skating is what causes it, especially if you skate often. I've got a tube in my "skate box" for just in case. Thankfully I haven't had to use it yet.
well if u watch indy jamma jones altho she doesnt really go through helmets and knee pas or just stuff like that clearly but she really goes through the skate really well an the trucks and wheels and she mainly go through alot of how to teach u hw to skate and whatto o when u fall and your laces aswell
MystiqueRisingSun this is super helpful, I’m gonna use this when I get my skates soon! :)
MystiqueRisingSun I know it’s been a few months but wow thanks a ton! I’ve been wanting a summary about how to care for skates since I just got some. Your description is very straight to point and understandable! :)
Yeah same
I want to hear about cleaning pads. The sweat, chile
keep your eye out in the next couple weeks!
@@QueerGirlStraightSkates great, cuz mine are fonky
The smiths are nice but once you start taking harder landings as you progress in your tricks they dont give enough padding and will wear out easily. The 187s slim are perfect. Great support, durable, and tons of protection. Currently icing my knee because I took a hard slide at the park wearing my smiths
Friendly Kiki oooh good to know
Are the slims sold individually?
I have this problem too! My legs are big so I need XL knee pads, but then for my wrists I need a Medium and elbows need L. I wish more of these companies sold them separately. I was really disappointed with Scabs for their weird sizing. The XL knee pads were also really snug on me so I sent them back. Like, come on companies!!! Please accomodate different body sizes and proportions!!!
What other products do you want me to try out and review?
A cheap affordable skate maybe❤️
More plus size pads 😩 I was hopeful you’d offer some skate park options for us big ladies!
Jay up until recently I had been using the 187 derby pads for the skatepark, which they have in plus sizes- I am always keeping my eye out for plus size padding, and will update with anything I find!
Elbow pads! I find my 187's too bulky when I use them during derby and sometimes at the skatepark. A video on wrist guards would also be really cool
Toestops!
i was looking alllll over for a review on the impala ones because that pink is so cute, but i wasn't sure they would fit, so thank you!!
TYSM for this video! Baffled that I couldn't find a lot of roller skate pad review videos. So thank you for making yours so comprehensive. More people need to get on this and make pad reviews now that roller skating is insanely popular again.
Could you do a video with shove about your experiences as plus size derby players?
can't get a lux armor pads right now :( sold out everywhere.
was just coming on here to say the same thing :(
I saw Triple 8 has similar ones available on Amazon. Because Lux is STILL sold out.
I was haveing a mental breakdown thinking the size large impala werent gonna fit me but I found this video so ty
Wow I didn’t know there were different knee pads...so this was super useful! Can you do a video on sliders? I think that’s what they’re called? The things you use to grind at the skate park ?
Can you guys please list the product names in the box please and can you list a few knee pads in every category bc a lot are sold out 😓
I have the same feedback about the Smith's. I fit small wrist and elbow guards, but I need medium Smith Scabs knee pads. This is such a helpful video, thanks!!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm just now getting into skating and was having such a tough time finding knee pads for thicc thighs, can't wait to try some of the ones you mentioned!!
This is really helpful! It would be cool if you did a video on affordable skates for beginners. I know there are a few videos out there but I think a lot of them recommend stuff that probably doesn't last very long and when you're on a budget you kinda want something that is on the cheaper side but also won't fall apart in 6 months
impalas are the best budget skates out there though the toe stop is a out at a weird angle
The 187 pro derby killer pads also have extra small and children’s sizes which is nice because everthinh else is too big for me
Izzy Bee thanks!
I love your channel, just found it when I was shopping for kneepads. Love the aesthetic, love the possibility, love you girlies!
I'm watching this 2 years late lol... But I wanted to thank yall for being size inclusive! I have been looking around for knee pad options and only found 1 that would fit me. The 187 Moxy pads. Now I have another brand to look at.
It is so hard to get good pads especially as someone plus size! My first set would pop off when I knelt down! This is a great video, love you and shove!!
Good topic. I got a bad road burn right below my knee pad on my calf. I am now considering "sleeves/gaskets" which extend lower.
Maybe try lower profile soccer shin guards?
@@ayianashaw2341 Yes, gonna use pads with pants, and gaskets with shorts (don't fit over my pants). Thanks.
i love both of y’all’s energy! what team r you on, rebel? i’m local and wanna come support!
I’m a new subscriber- LOVING your videos. Thanks so much for making these videos. SO helpful!
This was very informative! I like the idea of the impala, just wish they had black or a different color! I'm not really a pastel wearer.
I'm going to try to rit dye my pink set red .
Well done, thank you all for this.
PINK IS ALSO MY *FAVORITE COLOUR*
When you do these will you put links to the products because it’s challenging to actually find them 😢
hey! i was planning to get the pink impala gear but i dont understand the sizing. could you make a video explaining how to size your gear?
She's right they're good for street but if you plan on airing a bowl I'd get hard shells like the hardest ones u could get 😅😅 cause if u hit the coping at that height OMG that's like a broken knee and leg in 6 different places rip
Very informative thank you so much for tips on what to buy for different types of skating it can be quite overwhelming. I just went to my local skate shop and got the biggest, hardest knee cap I saw and I won't mention the brand but they didn't make it past a year. I did put them through a lot as a beginner jumping out of bowls slamming onto my knee pads because it didn't hurt and at times I probably put them on the wrong leg (yes I paid attention to how you strapped yours on. Lots to learn on my skating journey so thanks again for all the tips you offered and I look forward to your next videos. I like video idea on recommendations for picking toe stop for your skates (FYI people think you can't change out the toe stops on Impala's or Candi Grls and you can). And a video on trucks verses just plates and when to loosen them and why. So many choices when it comes to skate customizing.
This is such a great video and you are so much fun to watch! Thanks!!
I love this video! So excited about your channel!!!!!
Friendly Kiki thanks!
Can you go through this to measure yourself for knee/elbow/wrist pads
What an awesome and informative video. Very well done. Thanks so much!
This is awesomely helpful. Especially the sizing, and Shove’s input. Please can you comment on elbow pads?
Also the body poz fabulousness is exactly what I needed to see & hear today. 🥳😭🥳😭🥳😭🤩🤩🤩
I have big thighs and I used to have the 187 killer pads pro derby. But I must admit I didn't enjoy them as much as I thought I would. They are a bit short from top to bottom for my taste and I often hit my knee because I landed in an awkward angle. Now I have the Smith Scabs Elite (the ones with the crazy zebra pattern and green/white/black colours) and even though the are much lower profile, somehow they feel softer when I fall.
I'd love to skate with you someday, but I'm on the east coast. Florida to be exact. Complete opposite side of America.
I want the leopard knee pads so bad. They were sold out in my size when I last looked but they’re so cute!
There is something I always wondered, How come when people roller skate they always wear shorts and short sleeve shirts. Won't it defeated the point of protection if you have a lot of skin exposed that the ground can scrape?
This is so helpful! Thank you for saying what size you wear. I think we have similar bodies, and my large smith scabs are sooooooo tight in my knee. It was good to hear the way it matches up! What do you think of triple 8 pads?
Long Beach in the house !! I see you at the Jordan skate park 👀
Yes!!!!!
Would you recommend wearing the Smith scabs knee pads while playing roller derby??
1st world problems: I'd like to get leopard print pads but for both the moxi pad set and the scabs 3-pack i would need to buy 3 sizes. damn.
Where do I buy the lux armor ones? It doesn’t seem like they have website🧐
Yess I have the cheetah print smith scabs !!
"Shove" is so fugging cool!!!🤟🏽🤙🏽
Great video Rebel!!!
Anyone know where to buy ones similar to the lux ones in Australia?
I actually needed this vid thank youu
you're welcome :)
I really wish the smith scabs sets came in larger sizes with kneepads. The prints are so cool. Or maybe they could use some of those prints on the kneepads that do go up to xxl ☹
I seem to need XL in most makes and a S/M elbows, all my fat deposits seem to collect around my knees. Struggle getting them to fit.
Thanks so much! this was really helpful. I never skated before so I'm going with the scabs cause I'm gonna fall down a lot. lol
Thank you, but where are the links to purchase the first ones? Is it on Amazon?
My body is mismatched sizes as well, is there a way I could make the scabs wrist guard and elbow pads smaller without losing their protective ability?? (Id want my knee pads to fit well! I’m an xl in knee pads, a small in wrist guards and a medium in elbow pads 😭)
my right knee dislocated twice, and i really want to get into skating but i’m scared of it dislocating again. any advice for weak knees or support for my knee ?
I’m in the exact same boat! Definitely buy some knee pads so you feel more secure when you skate and make sure to land properly and not twist around too much and you should be right 🖤
This was soooo helpful!! Thank you
I was iffy about the Impalas because they're so cute, so how could the work? But now I I feel good about going for it!
I have the same tie dye halter!
This was awesome! I love my 187 derby knee pads
Hey!!! Love your video!! My upper thighs are about 25-26 inches. Which would you reccomend? Pink is my favorite color too ❤. Also, I haven't been inline skating since I was 22 and I'm 36 lol
Hi there, thanks for your awesome video!! The lux armor knee pads look great. I am searching online for them and can't seem to find it. Do you know if they still make them or if not, is there another type you would recommend (soft - not hard shell) THANKS!
How do you feel about the Moxi Pads?
Picked up a Uno Bolt type riding wheel (fed up after waiting for Ryno Wheel to get to retail). I wanted it mostly for getting around at the Veterans Hospital. I'm 65 and that place seems to get bigger each year. I promised my wife I'd wear protective gear while learning how to wear it. Oh well. Biking gear seems to be a bit over the top for the short duration learning curve. Any thoughts?
With the Lux Armor pads does the top part that goes above the knee roll down? That's where I've had problems with these types of pads.
Dennis Q. It doesn’t roll down from the top, the back will cinch a little bit on larger legs but that’s all- and that’s not really bothersome imo
@@QueerGirlStraightSkates thank you.
I bought moxie skate knee pads and while I like everything else I haaaate the knee pads.
you could always hem the stretchy part of the impala knee pads
I like your style
ty for this video! I literally just bought some scabs that were on sale!!
update; I got an XL in blue and they barely fit on my fat thighs lol. I can't even put them on properly but the straps go around.. might have to add some length if it's awkward skating with them on.
i notice you have the heart shaped stoppers, are those dead stop? I currently bought some for my panthers and they refuse to stay tightly screwed. I have riedell toe caps on and tighten the short stem dead stop heart stoppers all the way with wrench! No matter how tight i tighten them they do not stay 😕 please help
I've just bought a pair of the 187 Fly Knee Pads (XL) and I feel a little pressure on the shins after wearing them at first and with straight legs. Is that normal? Not sure if they are supposed to break in and get softer, although I know I'm supposed to have my knees bended while skating.
This happened to me too. I just bought them and I don’t know if Is normal to feel that. Did you find anything about it?
@@meloon5 Hi! I kept the knee pads and after a while they get really comfort. Now I think it's a good thing that they "force" you to keep the knees bended and I almost don't feel them when I'm skating. Also, they make me feel very safe. I hope you get used to yours as well and have fun skating! :)
@@marcelascota8932 Hi!!
I'm glad to hear that! : D
I was wondering if maybe it was because they were the wrong size. But I hope the same happens with mines.
Thanks for the reply!
@@meloon5 I’ve been wearing 187 pads and they’re just so stiff
Scraped my knee today so in need of knee pads 😌
So many outfit changes 😝
What are some good cheap ones for dealing with wood?
Hello friend what kind of socks are they thick socks to or they tube socks
Im really wanting to get the impala ones! But i have quite big legs! Im a uk 18-20 which is a us 14-16? I believe. Would you say Id be able to pull them off!!
Unsure, I'm about a US size 14 and they fit me well. They might.
you're so cooolll!
I have those exact kneepads
For someone who was interested in skating park stuff for the first time which pads would you recommend?
i don't do roller derby but i wear roller derby skates cuz im family is really broke sooo i don't know if i should use them like normal skates
Thank you so very much for making this video. I have huge thighs like 22-23 in at the top. From your review I'm guessing the 187's are going to be best. I'm skating on boardwalk and streets I guess until rink opens up. Do they have a good return policy? I don't have much money but willing to make the investment. I'm just scared they're not gonna be big enough
i'm thinking of ordering the impala safety set that you talked about... i weigh about 125-130 and im around 5'8 but i have small wrists and small elbows and average thighs/knees do you think these would fit me good???
Can you add a link of where to buy them?
is there a kind for outside skating and park skateing or would i just use a soft but slippery knee pad for both
Can anyone here please help me figure out what knee pads would be good for recreational skating. Im not sure where i would fit within the types given. I'm a beginner and I wont do much fancy stuff - just move and dance
Do the impalas offer side protection?
anyone know where I can get the lux armor pads? it is 2022 and I can't seem to find em...
Look up pole dancing knee pads :)
I got my first pair of knee pads bc I fell off my flicker so now I have a big cut on my wrist and knee so I will hopefully not do that with knee pads in roller boots 😂😂
where arethe links for the knee pads
want park is this? can’t fins any good parks since covid ;-;
Okay thank you, found it lol
did u find the lux armor knee pads?
Can anyone help me find where to get the Lux Pads? For some reason I can’t find them .😢
No I can't find them. Did you end up finding it?
Uugh got mine and they are freakn small like for a 6 year old😤😤
Did you get the juniors pack by accident?
Thought about just wearing my volleyball kneepads but those babies are already flat asf💀💀
I like her tub socks are they thick socks
