Holy smokes! Doing a solo back packing hunt with knee injuries like those? Big respect. Great video. EDIT: @53:00 so true! A long solo hunt will get you thinking about and dwelling on things that would most likely never even occur to you when you are with other hunters? Solo hunting has been, for me, a huge mental “gut check” at times?
Great stuff! Agreed about the home stuff clouding and nagging the brain. I run that kifaru Gun Sling also and love that thing! Big question for me because I may be doing Colorado in 2024 if I don't draw WY, NM, or AZ. Would you say having the ATV was an asset in colorado? Save wear and tear on the truck? I have one and could bring it along if there is merit in having it . OH....and do you worry about locking it up or anything at the end of the trail when you take off walking?
I would 100% bring your quad to CO. I’m bringing mine back for sure. And never worried about it. Also quad will get your places a SXS won’t. There’s a 50” limit on some trails.
That’s some serious miles/work. Congratulations. Question about the K4 rifle sling. Was that not available when you did this hunt or do you just prefer a different set up that you used? Curious if you had any experience with it at all.
I prefer to have it in front of me. I’ve tried a couple of the rear quick release systems and I don’t like them as much. I can access it when it’s upfront with far less visible movement. And I can also resling it without taking my pack off.
Great hunt, and great video showing the true leeps and bounds you have to go through, physically and mentality during a solo hunt! Great work and determination, way to get it done!! 🤙🏾
Sorry to laugh at you misery, but thank you for the bit of a rant on the bad day. I just finished my rutcation at home and it was so bad I looked forward to getting back to work today! Bad days are going to happen no mater what. If it is not fun, take a break and reboot. In three weeks, I dunked my phone in the swamp. Then lost the same phone in the same swamp the next weekend. Said screw the cattail swamp from hell and then fell out of my tree two steps from the ground. In the end, remember it can always get worse! Being solo is a multiplier for any hunt good or bad. Ya, got a new sub for keeping your grind on buddy!
Jay, enjoyed the film. I’m glad you keep it real, often times when things turn to crap, I wonder if it’s just me, seeing your struggles and powering thru gives me hope to win the mind battle that comes with solo hunting and the set backs that inevitably occur along the way
Awesome film and great buck! Congratulations. No better feeling after grinding it out like that being successful. The road hunters can definitely be entertaining. But like you said if they are happy have at it. Looking forward to more films like this and keep up the hard work
Another great film my friend. Further more, you harvested a healthy animal to feed your family and that's what a true trophy is. As for your injury, you already know I share your pain there. But what you said about making something your super bowl, I relate to that 100%. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you cast out the factors at hand and say "No... I'm doing this and I am throwing everything I have at it." I was prepared for a 6 week plus recovery on my ankle tears and I managed to go fill my gun tag on my own feet, no assistance. If it was off season, your mind would make recovery took way to long without an end zone. Mind is the killer. I have a saying that I tell myself regularly "You can't put a price on being able to live with yourself." Congratulations again, Jay. And good luck on your whitetail hunt.
Oh congratulations Jay. That's a beautiful deer. Well done on taming the inner bitch. Relatable. You must have been tempted to bring the Argali along and push deeper away from road access and all the hunters right?
@@MindfulHunter post 45 I made the switch from heavier weight training to kettle bells, better cardio and pack training. Definitely stronger on the hill and better conditioning. It's a good way to "let go" of being bigger, with purpose (to hunt into 70s) and longevity in mind.
Great video. You are absolutely the Non Resident Iron Man. British Columbia to Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona? Damn. Appreciate the transparency of what people go through on hunts like this. The honesty in emotions is something we could use more of. I’ve got a 17 year old and I miss the trick or treating, the youth football games, fishing trips more than I can say. Before you even mentioned the the quandary of the wounded buck I said to myself, “ I’d shoot that thing.” Not that you should have. It’s not your “responsibility” to be merciful. That buck could have been injure running from a Mr. Lion or coyotes, sparring. If he was shot it was the other hunter’s responsibility to be better. But, as a non res who’s not really a trophy hunter…it would have been over and I live just one state South. Lastly, looks like the knee is in good shape. That’s positive. I strained a MCL and have a slight meniscus tear and I’m real worried about getting back to work number one, number two, being able to hike at all on my hunt in January.
Wow! I guess I should have gone to the complete end of the video before commenting! Shit! My knee is no where near as bad. I have no excuses now. Also, FWIW, I have a tool roll that lives in the back seat of the truck permanently. I’m a tool whore so I was able to just use some of the numerous items I have 3 and 4 backups to. But, the packs of sockets, screw drivers, various types of wrenches that Home Depot or Lowe’s sells are relatively inexpensive and capable to do pretty significant trail fixes. A box of fuses and your set for just about anything.
To travel that far and still get it done, grit.
💪
Friggin love your content.
Thanks brother!
Great video.
Thank you!
Thx Jay. Big time deadly!

Could not agree more man!
Another great film with insight. The power of persistent. 💪🏼
Thank you!
Fun video, enjoyed it!

Awesome film. Nothing better than working your ass off for Muleys 🦌.

@@MindfulHunter Thanks for that confirmation. Have a Merry Christmas Jay!
Just got back from my Colorado 2nd rifle season hunt. Was able to tag out on the 2nd to last day. Not a giant but not tag soup either.
Congrats!
Glad your hunt was successful! Great film! Loved the music style in this one!
Thanks!
Great vid as always man
Thanks brother!
First video of yours that I have seen.
VERY high quality, love the closing lesson you took from this hunt.
Good job!
Thanks!
Was wondering how the knee was. Good vid once again. Edit: also, I think GSP had firas zahabi in his corner.
That was later in his career. The fight I’m speaking of he was still being cornered by Jackson. 😉

Did you bone the animal out? All packed into main bag or did you use the shelf. Can't tell!
Great work!
Left bone-in, used 5 game bags and then inside a contractor bag in the main compartment. I really don’t like using the meat shelf unless I have to.
Awesome work! I did my first double pack out with the K4 this week - can't believe how good the bag is....@@MindfulHunter

Yeah man if it was not for the knee I would have been gone lol. Prolly ended up walking more 🤦♂️

Kifaru Gun Bearer
First in. Looking forward to watching.

Loved the sound track. It would kill me to miss Halloween also, noted for myself for later.
