He's out bassed Thurl in his Headless Horseman cover and does complete justice to the You're a Mean One solo. Y'all should definitely check out all of Geoff's and VoicePlay's content.
I'll have to find that. Of the current crop of bass singers, Geoff sounds the most like Thurl Ravenscroft, who sang the original (and voiced Tony the Tiger).
The original by Tennessee Ernie Ford came out in the late 50's. I was around 5 years old and I remember him singing it on the radio ALL the TIME. And then Ernie appeared on The Lucy Show and he had a mousie voice and he acted like a real hick of a hillbilly. But when he opened up his voice to sing, he was so masculine, a powerhouse. Geoff went way DOWN on his version. It's a fresh sound to an old favorite ONLY if enough of us still living, remember the first version. New kids will think this is the original for them. But I have heard BOTH and I LOVE this sexy version and Geoff's expressions. He's always naughty with his eyes.
Geoff is so good! And he sang this whole one in chest voice, not even using growl, fry, or subharmonics to go into that crazy deep level. So insane! It is amazing how talented he is. I mean, dude has a 5 octave range.
@@Mark_Agamotto1313_Smith He did, also in Halo, maybe somewhere else. His lowest note ever recorded was almost an octave lower, a C#0, which is off the grand piano keyboard and so low it's basically clicking at this point
That Geoff is easy, very easy on the eyes, even for guys, is a bonus. But those LOW notes really hit something primal and seem to trigger the 'is it hot in here' reflex among females.
you really need to check out Home Free's cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" featuring Avi Kaplan cause they go as deep as Geouff does and he did do a "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" with Voiceplay
You heard it first when Percy Sledge sang it, and it hit the top of the charts with Michael Bolton, but the a cappella group Home Free took "When A Man Loves A Woman" to a different level. It melts ladies butter! ... Guy
Best bass A Capella singer ever imo. Does his own arrangements like this song, The Headless Horseman, Blackbird, etc. Helluva talent, all the best to Geoff.
VoicePlay do an excellent version of You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch. Thanks guys. He is awesome. Home Free and Pentatonix's also have some great bass singers
Hey Steve, there's two of us. For a second I couldn't figure out how I had made a comment on a video that I hadn't watched yet! 😊 Cheers, Steven Everett (the other one)
Put the butter in the fridge? Better make sure you have a cryogenic freezer! His voice certainly melted MY stone cold heart of Titanium/Tungsten Alloy!

They do the best Disney covers. Check them out...lol. especially Oogie Boogie Song. Geoff is awesome, but when he's with voice Play, it's something specially.

This man's voice is deeper than the coal mine about which he is singing.
you see how mike is worried, dangerous move showing this to ginger. geoff can steal just about anyone

The original is not by Ernie. Ernie is simply the one to add the snap and popularize the song.
