High string gauge to punch the strings harder, extra bass in tone, and chugging of the entire E power chord instead of just the E string. Plus an ungodly amount of layering.
@@thisen1146 Yeah, that's where people fuck up. They underestimate just how much James layered recordings. Picking like him also helps I've found, because you have an extra finger's worth of leverage and force you can put on the strings.
@@heavenlywithhishands tbh his layering was only really prominent in the black album. Everywhere else before was only in a few select songs. Or only in certain bits of the song. Then you get to justice where you cant even tell anymore. I am still certain the post solo harmony of Ajfa has like atleast 10 layers. 4 rhythm ,2muted. melody 2low harmony, and 2 high. Then yoy have shortest straw where the rhythm is only 3 guitars
you really out did yourself with this one, equally to your blackened tones - since weve met youve done nothing but exceed your previous work - good on you bra, great job with those mids and tracking :)
Its not bad at all. You should look into fab filter proMB and tru to get those low woofy frequencies under control. And boost the low mids. Not too much. Kind of hard to tell with the bass being there
@@thisen1146 that’s some good advice man thank you. I’ve been trying to control the low end but it’s hard cuz it seems to be boosted on the isolated track yet controlled.
Use a little gain as possible maybe try the 808 boost pedal on the mod setting. With the tone turned to 9oclock and level at 3oclock. Should free up that lowend
My gain is super low. I have 5 guitars layered. The "distortion" comes from the layers mixing with eachother. To awenser your questions sort of. Since i use a mesa mark style amp sim, its weird. But in genreal i its pretty distored but only if you play hard. The treble is around mid level, the mids are allmost gone bass is quite high. But most of the tone here come from mutiband compression
weirdly on the amp it is actually pretty up there about 25% of the way up. i scooped pretty hard around like 240hz and not as 400hz and 700hz, then harsh cut at 2,4khz 5khz. to get rid to the super scratchy sounds
Not sure my dad could get this quite as good as you this time. He'd be pretty bloody close though
i asked your dad for some advice this time. He told me to Git Gud
@@thisen1146 Good on ya mate
Metallica’s palm mutes always sound so heavy hitting

@@briang8579 tbh the low e is only a .49 and i only used 4 guitars of this tone. Its not the gear, but knowing what to do with it

One of my favorite riffs, just have always loved the chords and melody
Dude this sounds amazing it sounds just like the recording! Keep up the good work!
Wow
This is tight af
Well done
Also, this riff sounds like something mustaine would write in the early 90s
Thanks. I think Mustain really struggled with making slow, mencancing, chucky riffs around that time. Or made a poor choices with tone and such.
Playing is tight af
congrats on 400 subs bro, great tone aswell
my favorite metallica riff
Better than mine

Sick tone bro
hey thisen, awesome tone! thx for the video bro! could you share your comp or eq settings?
perfect
Is the bass low and treble high, or do you just have a lot of pick attack? Cause when I’m trying to get the tone my notes don’t sound as sharp lol

Boogie Mk II?
Nah its a digital amp. ML5. Also able get it with Reaxis. Both clones of the MARK V and Tri Axis
That makes it all the more impressive.
