You have Thunder Storm and Hydra reversed. Thunder Storm is completely useless, Hydra is kind of all right if you like that sort of thing. Hydra is a good backup for blizz sorcs because its synergies don't add much and like Blizzard it doesn't benefit from FCR.
Shiver armor > Frozen armor. It will slow the enemy attack animation, and the slow happens at the START of their attack animation. If they are a big and slow attacker (the ones who hit hardest), you can literally walk away or you will teleport away by the time their attack finishes. With frozen armor, there is no point freezing them after they hit you (unless you plan on just sitting there tanking enemies), because you shouldn't be getting hit TWICE in a row by the same monster ever. Try teleporting around in Durance of Hate 2, and with Shiver armor, you notice you are getting out of the way with things turning blue (slowed) without you ever getting hit. No FHR being triggered. Even if their first hit is a miss anyway (slowing their second hit as well, which you should be long gone for).
i like maxblock on a sorc so much...Whitstan's Guard is all the blcok you'll ever need for the start, and especially for hardcore it saved my life countless times.... ofc once you're geared it will not matter that much anymore - but honestly, and especially for hardcore , running without stormshield later on seems just risky (nihlathak xplosions+AD for example) at some point some xtrafast/xtrastrong/manaburn moonlord/whatever will hit you , and with maxblock and storm i would say you live thru that a lot more than without storm/maxblock ...for me at least ;) as for the shiver vs frozen armor debate: maxvita sorc -> frozen armor , but for maxblock, 100% shiver ^^ (blocked attack ->no freeze ( but slow from shiver, so it's good here)
Damn, i just started playing D2 for the first time a few days ago and I started with a cold sorceress. Im at level 18 and im having a really hard time managing myself with that ice blast. Came to see a guide to see what im doing wrong and i learn that using cold is what im doing wrong xD
2 socket staff and make leaf (tir ral) farming runes from countess, then use fireball until 30 and respec to your permanent. At 30 frozen orb will carry you through nightmare with spirit in crystal sword and ancients or rhyme runeword in shield.
I almost always play through Norm as a fire sorc (fire ball) and respec in A5 before going to Nightmare mode. Each den of evil quest in each difficulty (a total of 3) allows you to reset you skill tree and talent tree whenever you'd like by the way.
Honestly that was part of the video I disagree with, ice bolt is basically a cold version of fire bolt, it has a low mana cost and is easily spamable. You just have to keep in mind that Ice blast is a somewhat more powerful but much more expensive ice bolt. In other words ice bolt is as good as fire bolt but ice blast is trash because it should be equal to fire ball but it's not because of lack of aoe.
Shiver Armor is actually not worse than Frozen Armor. Depending on what you want it's better. Frozen Armor freezes a monster once the hit lands. You get hit, then the monster is frozen. Shiver Armor chills a monster once the attack begins. The attack starts and the monster gets slowed *before* you get hit. This could mean that, while teleporting, you get to teleport away before the attack lands. That's why I always run Shiver Armor instead of Frozen Armor.
A friend of mine years ago made a meteorb sorceress based around a certain number of points in energy shield combined with a certain amount of damage taken goes to mana gear (upgraded visceratuant was key). The *only* thing that could kill her was mana burn. Otherwise he'd take her into 8-man bhaal and just stand there.
i just use fireball, frozen orb, blizzard, thunderstorm, chain lightning, and 200% fcr. usually some combination of max fireball and frozen orb and lightning mastery, or a lighting skill of your choice. boost whichever synergies you want. 200 fcr is just insane and not difficult to achieve at all. you can also load up with light, cold, fire, or even magic find charms. i wanna say i can cast like 2-3 maybe 4 fireballs every second. i also have a phoenix shield on switch with my CTA for redemption which takes away from my battle orders but i think it's worth it.
Enchantress. Good times. I used to do trist runs where I got there, enchanted everyone then left the party to not break their exp. Not everyone would read my message saying you had to attack yourselves.
I use shiver armor on my HC sorc, chill effect triggers befor damage is taken. Those few frames before you are damaged can give you time to teleport away, were as frozen only procs after you are damaged which could result in a dead sorc.
exactly man - only needs to be 1 heavy manaburner with followup and it's the end! didnt like how he just said "frozen armor is the best, the other 2 are bad" , kind of triggered me .
I played back in the day but only mele characters since i got d2r im loving rhe sorceress playstyle. I ran a zelot paladin up to lvl 50 the first week got some decent drops and ran my bliz sorc up to 30 so far. I started with cold only and hes right until you get blizzard she kills slowly i have a might merc with insight. I plan to reapec to blizzball once i get toward the middle of nightmare.
Chain lightning, Frozen orb and Firewall Tri spec sorceress, or Blizzard, Nova and Hydra. Both of them should have Static, warmth, teleport, some points in Cold, lightning + fire mastery and Shiver/Frozen armor.
ive ran a few 98 lvl es sorces hp=mp, 1 es, 0 tele, insight, tr set, 2 sojes, frostburns (for survivalability sacing speed). she's a tank since damage u take goes to ur mana pots, mana kinda works like a buffer. actually i always play that build on any server, works for me
Great videos. The only thing I don't understand is why go lightning at the beginning for leveling if it is more gear dependent ? Thought fire was better until Hell, then respect to lightning or fire/cold.
meteorb sucks for the reason that both orb and meteor have a delay on them you cannot cast meteor and orb in succession, whereas with fb orb you can cast orb and spam a few Fbs before the orb comes off cooldown
@@MrLlamaSC i have a meteorb sorc and i assure you its decently powerful even with basic cheap mf gear. I use all three skills: orb, fireball and meteor depending on the situation. Its amazingly good at places like mephisto, andariel, frigid highlands, shenk, countess and even more at pits and pindle (pindle simply gets instantly killed by meteor - fireball and orb can easily clear whole rooms at pits with cheap starter gear). Baal and chaos are doable since she can solo anything, however a little bit slower due to the ammount of fire immunes. Its the funniest build among all sorc builds imo - exploding whole packs of monsters with meteor in 1 hit is pretty fun, while being able to deal with almost any immunes.
I personally like playing with ice blast through the whole normal difficulty (It's also sufficient to pass nightmare, but at this point why not blizz?). It actually does a lot of damage once levelled up, also it's one of the best sources of single-target dps in the game, especially earlier on. Oh and it freezes the target for a long period of time which helps with tactics and survability. Mefisto, Diablo and Baal are really easy. There are only two little problems with playing this build. First - mana. Ice Blast might be powerful, but it takes a lot of mana, so you need either consume mana potions like a maniac (I pretty much drink everything I drop from monsters), or use this skill to kill stronger monsters and do your merc do the dirty work. Second - Duriel. If there is a dead point in powerlevel of this build, it's definitelly Duriel on normal. You're not that developed yet to kill him before he eats your merc (unless you spent some time to grind) and you need to use the trick with opening the town portal and jumping immediately to town once your merc dies to res him. However frost nova actually sucks in doing damage and it's not worth leveling more than once.
Surprised you didn't mention Thunderstorm in hybrid builds as that seems like the most cost efficient skill for a hybrid build. Since you only need to max 1 skill you can than max all 3 of the main fire skills for max synergy and still have a bunch of points for both masteries and utility skills, or of course max Frozen Bolts+its 1 synergy skill than you can max both masteries(well as much cold as you need) and a bunch of utilities more than usual since you'll have extra points to spend. All those other hybrid builds require sacrificing some potential damage by not maxing all synergy skills and whatnot. Thunderstorm just seems to be tailor made for hybrid builds.
I havent found much use for Static so far since I kill mobs fast enough. I just realized how good it is tho, when u run fire/frost, and run into immunes. If u can still make ur follower take them down, then Static can just be great for the first 50% (also cuz merc has no aoe right).
Frozen armor is only usefull at the lower levels. It freezes a monster but only if they hit you. Since you don't want to be hit and the freeze time is really short you're not going to use it. Shiver armor does not freeze the opponent, but chills them (slow) which is usefull, but it's better since they only have to swing at you for it to happen. Normally people go with this one. It helps you get out of a tough spot if you make a wrong tele. Chilling armor is pretty useless in itself. It does nothing but shoot an icebolt at a ranger that just shot you. Not even a guarantee that it will hit the monster and chill it, the damage is crap and basically if you face rangers you're not going to stand around waiting for the slow traveling icebolt to hit them.
I still use frozen armor on my lvl 98 sorceress. It's so OP because it freezes on hit as opposed to just slowing like shiver armor. Really helps me escape bad scenarios
awesome content mr.llama, one thing to note though, you could make actual thumbnail, it's kind of hard to know what the video is by just looking at it, especially on other platforms than pc. much love
So fire mastery doesn't affect immunes, but if conviction or lower resist/decrepify breaks the immunity then does fire mastery work at 100% effectiveness?
Hey Lama, I have watched some of your streams and some of the "First Look - Learn about the XX" videos. I noticed that you sometimes take notes in a word document. Where can I find these docs? Would be awesome with something written to fall back on when I forget bits of information from the videos.
Let's see frostbolt1 , than frost armour to freeze the enemy 2, than charged bolt for aoe or shotgun disperce 3 , than ... I guess Mana refuel because that was why I went to the range weapons . , WAITING TILL GOES THE TELEPORT , BUT BEFORE THAT WHERE IS THE GLACIAL SPIKE and if it is good enought good , than goes ... pimping the static field and mana broad range , but Chain lightning is SOO GOOD AS WELL . which level is gllacial spike ?! or Electric sorceres , BUT FROST RING COULD SAVE YOUR BUTT And maybe frost armour , but mainly frost ring only to escape . javern ... normal one eatse enemies for breakfast at town 1 until the caves when you would need something with bigger punch . maybe having warmith at least to level 2 to have less mana problems , but be aware that having enemies in Black marsh and the cave which could rip your health like nothing stripping 20 hp per hit or 10 hp and fast , those WERE REALLY BAD . So at least ... 80 hp vs Andariel and more . Maybe blaze chasing you the enemy whie running ...
Hi Mr Llama, does that mean if cold mastery is at 150%, so we reduce the monster cold resistances to -100% and our damage will be doubled on it? Doesnt it refer as it no longer cold immuned?
Monsters that are immune to elemental damage aren't affected by resistance pierce from skills if it isn't a debuff (aura or a curse) and if it doesn't remove the immunity in the process.
what do the starting stats matter if them and the 'stat per effect' don't match? 1 vit = 2 life but she has 40 starting hp with 10 vit. so what does it matter that she has 10 vit? why is it 'yikes'?
Where did you find an information about mechanics of the "Masteries"? I cannot find any information that the skill effect of monster's resistance. In the description of the skills it is stated that they are increased the damage of the skills of particular tree that is it.
What's the best combination of skills if you want to run with Blizzard and Lighting ? Or it's not a great combo since it requires so many points of investing in syngergies and it's better to just do Frozen Orb and Lighting for example? Appreciate help
Well what gould could do blaze(Fire step) that you deem it trash ? it is more reliable than the meteor . only slow enemies could fall on this trick . The enemies chasing you directly in the fire line , it may see cowardly but in that way Iescaped the biggest dangers , and you say blaze(firestep is trash)
The problem with blaze is it does nothing against monsters that don't chase you (archers, vampires, some of baals minions like wave 2 and 3, Bosses, etc) so it falls flat on its face in those cases, thus making it not great.
@@MrLlamaSC Oh , That ... is way ahead . So in that case just frost ring , teleport out of the way from the chasers . and hit them when are dazed , frozen , slowed or whatever to slow them down .. Bcause Blaze... saved my butt from very damn fast enemies which could get me down with few slaps . A the situation of a inteligent Quill rat frailty to a beginer charecter , the enemy chases you and with 3 hits you are down from being SO SQUISHY/Frail , but will keep in mind .
With D2R on the horizon, I have been wanting to do a light sorc using what you stated, lightning and chain lightning; for lightning immunes would you, personally, or any other sorc main use fire or cold if you can't break the immunity?
most would use frozen orb. get a friend. seriously. infinity is not just good for Merc. great as a PVP wep vs paladins. use a 4 soc scythe. Eschutas, griffins, hoto, spirit, coh, CTA and charms. very expensive character but very worth it. not cheesy like hammers. playing paladin might as well be cheating in certain cases. wanna mess with people? put fade, bone armor or elemental armor etc. looks very cool on a sorc 😁
Use life charms for hp. Energy increases the size of your mana ball, and recovery rate is a percent of that. So it increases the amount of mana you are recovering, but not the speed at which you get back to a full ball.
o...K DOES THE cAST Rate would increase the DELIVERY OF METEOR FASTER ? , hMM , fROST RING+ METEOR , Or freezing and attack them with meteor DOES THE CAST RATE INCREASE THE SPEED OF METEOR . Does it exist a versions of ... meteorite like comet crash or something ?
I am for chiling armour unless if I think otherwse , periphrasing , How much damage gives level 1 Shiver Armour ? Oh I see 3-6 is not much . MAYBE CHILLING ARMOUR WITH THE ... FROSTBOLT COULD GIVE BIGGER SURPRISE , So.. Frost bolt instead on the range attack . Maybe frost Armour is better or the best like you said
the cold resistance part is wrong, isn't it? aren't they able to hit breakpoints below 0, just like the player? I like the lightning part too :D. You can do TENS of THOUSANDS of lightning damage - Meanwhile in my head: Or you can do TENS of lightning damage xD
Hes saying put 1 point in and let your +skills/merc do the rest and get it to like 150 pen because most things that this can affect have like 40-60 resistance. The immunes are way too much for a merc aura to break down below 100 for mastery to do literally anything. You have to get the enemy resistance below 100 before mastery does anything. Obviously put points into it if your gear isnt carrying it enough.
Just for a noob... You are playing version 1.14? And use plugy mod for stats etc? If not - Can somebody tell me what he uses to re-allocate stats and skills?
So, is it possible for sorc to solo uber in ladder? I saw some other vids using meteor and bone wall to trap ubers. Any other option? I'm running a orb hydra for now. Having a hard time in hell.
Honestly a monarch is just go farm places like Cows, chaos, ancient tunnels, pits, really most anywhere in hell you can find one. Just run 0 mf so you get more white/socketed ones than not.
as much as i love your content, but i gotta strongly disagree with you regarding early cold sorcs. ice blast one shots enemies at lvl 12 or so in a players 4-5 game. and two-shots them with 8 players. sure costs a lotta mana at the start, but you get like 4-5 kills with one minor mana potion. it sucks to get to lvl 6 though.
never tried nova but you may be right. i didn't take speedrunning into account either since i mostly run casually in groups on battlenet. we are usually around lvl 10-12 upon reaching the monastery and 15-18 by the time we kill andy. so you might be way ahead at these lvls. for casual play at least a blizzard sorc will have no problems till nightmare act v i'd say when almost anything is cold immune.
Let me tell you , Iusually get CRAP SETS OF ITHEMS VERY QUICKLY , bUT NOW ... FROST , Static or warmith are first , Depends ... then frost blast , Buut that Staf is for Fire bolt , Unless if Ifind Cold staff and by being colectioner is not very hard . Getting more money or even better more magic ithems would be sweeter .
I have yet to see one build recomend any into energy, maybe for the beginning, but later in the game mana isnt a huge issue, especially with a merc with insight
paladins are too cheesy in PVP. even with infinity scythe on, dealing 53k lightning, some dudes can still sorb... and they use fade, some bot, juv pots, auto TP and desynch... I don't understand the appeal of cheating.
I disagree about hydra. At least calling it an overstatement. It's not so good for clear speed, but when you pump out fire bolt, fireball, fire mastery and ofcourse the skill itself, plus just a few to all skills and each bolt will do 1k damage, already more dps than meteor against single or a few targets, which can really devastate enemies. Spawn hydra's aggro monsters, run towards hydra's, summon more in between running to them - boom enemies run into their deaths. Nova is fun early game but absolute garbage once you hit hell. 495-710 damage with max li mastery and the skill itself is too low. Let's say you have +10 to all skills that's about 1k damage per cast ... is just not gunna cut it VS hydra that minigun shoots 1k's of damage, lucky 3k blizzard burst damage and of course nothing beats fireball in terms of raw dps. 3k each shot, 8k with +10 to all skills insane. 495-710 isn't enough to even clear trash in hell lol
lolll i love that a diablo 2 character guide was posted 20 years after the game dropped. #GOAT
There’s been a flow of new players in recent months so it’s relevant
I’ve started playing after a break of 15 years and I can’t remember anything! These how to guides are a life saver!
There's still relevant guides out today :))
Coming in late with D2 Res, but really appreciate these guides/overviews to get in to it. Thank you! 🙂🥦🦖

maybe having warmith at least to level 2 to have less mana problems , but be aware that having enemies in Black marsh and the cave which could rip your health like nothing stripping 20 hp per hit or 10 hp and fast , those WERE REALLY BAD .
So at least ... 80 hp vs Andariel and more .
Maybe blaze chasing you the enemy whie running ...
Hydra/Blizzard is good for hardcore.
When lama said hydras are trash, all my d2 builds with fire sorcs just instantly withered away.... :(
Hi Mr Llama, does that mean if cold mastery is at 150%, so we reduce the monster cold resistances to -100% and our damage will be doubled on it? Doesnt it refer as it no longer cold immuned?
When monster has 400% of cold immunity there is no way you will get that to even 99%.
Do people really use enigma on sorcs??? seems wasted on them
Where did you find an information about mechanics of the "Masteries"? I cannot find any information that the skill effect of monster's resistance. In the description of the skills it is stated that they are increased the damage of the skills of particular tree that is it.
Oh, this is only for cold tree. Got it!
But the Electricity iMMUNE ?... How much Static Would do ?
If they're immune it does 0 if they arent it does full damage I believe. It's not damage technically its hp removal.
Ok, but the real reason fire is best early is TirRal... +3 to fire runeword at lvl 19.
What's the best combination of skills if you want to run with Blizzard and Lighting ? Or it's not a great combo since it requires so many points of investing in syngergies and it's better to just do Frozen Orb and Lighting for example? Appreciate help
Ok lightning is like Shotgun , slower , Charge bolt the rule of the Shotgun
What do you mean hydra is trash I love it for HC :(
Your thoughts on Firewall?
Hey Llama! Why Lightning instead of Chain Lightning? I mean, even against 1 enemy it might do more dmg..
ty for tips love Diablo 2
Soo slowing those satic static huuh but it was short range soo 9 points to be about big as frost ring
How can you play with such a low amount of mana? Only 64???
So I'm guessing that negative resistances doesn't increase damage taken any further then? Or is it that it caps at -100?
caps at -100
With D2R on the horizon, I have been wanting to do a light sorc using what you stated, lightning and chain lightning; for lightning immunes would you, personally, or any other sorc main use fire or cold if you can't break the immunity?
most would use frozen orb. get a friend. seriously. infinity is not just good for Merc. great as a PVP wep vs paladins. use a 4 soc scythe.
Would you recommend using gems to add to her hp? Also does more energy increase mana recovery rate?
Use life charms for hp. Energy increases the size of your mana ball, and recovery rate is a percent of that. So it increases the amount of mana you are recovering, but not the speed at which you get back to a full ball.
o...K DOES THE cAST Rate would increase the DELIVERY OF METEOR FASTER ? , hMM , fROST RING+ METEOR , Or freezing and attack them with meteor
DOES THE CAST RATE INCREASE THE SPEED OF METEOR . Does it exist a versions of ... meteorite like comet crash or something ?
cast rate isn't increasing meteor because you have the built in cooldown to the skill
how about making a Melee Sorc Vid?
Made an enchant sorc speedrun with plugy gear before actually!
I am for chiling armour unless if I think otherwse , periphrasing , How much damage gives level 1 Shiver Armour ?
Oh I see 3-6 is not much .
MAYBE CHILLING ARMOUR WITH THE ... FROSTBOLT COULD GIVE BIGGER SURPRISE
, So..
Yeah, it can go into negatives, which is why 1 pointing Cold Mastery is a dumb idea, as you literally lose damage.
Multiplayer works?
yes
What is zeal sorceres
Is the Inferno closer range ? like ... the pit lords or is like firebolt
yes inferno is close range. It's not good though
Is this game coming back?
I like to think so
How do you break lightning immunity? Coming from PoE :)
Infinity rune word on an act2 merc.. It's tough to get though.
Just for a noob... You are playing version 1.14? And use plugy mod for stats etc? If not - Can somebody tell me what he uses to re-allocate stats and skills?
1.13 and plugy mod
I played max block vita fireball Sorc in 1.10-1.11. I did verrry well in pvp pub games. But for 1v1 against other casters ES did better
hydra for lyif
So, is it possible for sorc to solo uber in ladder? I saw some other vids using meteor and bone wall to trap ubers. Any other option? I'm running a orb hydra for now. Having a hard time in hell.
Ya meteor is great vs the ubers honestly!
@@MrLlamaSC seems like orbhydra don't really stand much chance then.
But what IF THE ENEMY HITS YOU AD PAYS FOR THAT FROM THE SHIVER ARMOUR ?
Where is the best spot for getting a monarch? Im recently in act 1 hell difficulty ? Anyone here knows the hotspot on getting a monarch in ac1 hell???
Honestly a monarch is just go farm places like Cows, chaos, ancient tunnels, pits, really most anywhere in hell you can find one. Just run 0 mf so you get more white/socketed ones than not.
MrLlamaSC u mean in hell difficulty?
yeah, monarch's an elite item.
Glacial Spike > Frozen Orb
infinity: u have to find 2 ber runes. GL... how is this easy wtf. to break light immunes. impossible
lower res charges on a wand are great until then!
Easier....not easy
as much as i love your content, but i gotta strongly disagree with you regarding early cold sorcs. ice blast one shots enemies at lvl 12 or so in a players 4-5 game. and two-shots them with 8 players. sure costs a lotta mana at the start, but you get like 4-5 kills with one minor mana potion. it sucks to get to lvl 6 though.
I think the issue is beyond lvl 12. When you're in the like 15-24 range. just no where near as good as nova in those situations
never tried nova but you may be right. i didn't take speedrunning into account either since i mostly run casually in groups on battlenet. we are usually around lvl 10-12 upon reaching the monastery and 15-18 by the time we kill andy. so you might be way ahead at these lvls.
for casual play at least a blizzard sorc will have no problems till nightmare act v i'd say when almost anything is cold immune.
Let me tell you , Iusually get CRAP SETS OF ITHEMS VERY QUICKLY , bUT
NOW ... FROST , Static or warmith are first , Depends ... then frost blast , Buut that Staf is for Fire bolt , Unless if Ifind Cold staff and by being colectioner is not very hard . Getting more money or even better more magic ithems would be sweeter .
How come you say all points in Vitality, when everyone else says max 100 vit, enough str for gear, and the rest energy?
I have yet to see one build recomend any into energy, maybe for the beginning, but later in the game mana isnt a huge issue, especially with a merc with insight
Need a " Hydra is trash" shirt.
I had SEEN SIMILIAR , THIS STILL IS THE WORST VERSION OF MANA CHAINS(COSTING LIFE INSTEAD MANA
Ok Baal is no no
Lost El Rune
sorry noob question, where do i reset my stats/skills unli?
plugy mod allows it
Hydra IS TRASH? ARE U KIDDING ME?
Hydra is always cool though. It looks amazing.
it is; it's not effective. For builds, fireball, fire bolt, meteor, and warmth, fire mastery too. w/o this, it's underwhelming for fire.
paladins are too cheesy in PVP. even with infinity scythe on, dealing 53k lightning, some dudes can still sorb... and they use fade, some bot, juv pots, auto TP and desynch... I don't understand the appeal of cheating.
God his chat is full of parrots, just repeating whatever mrllama says
