He was a great puller and even better man...I met him once at the Clark County Ohio Fair years ago when I was a kid...All of us kids couldn't wait for the green monster to pull!!! I remember one year we went home the next day and had concrete blocks tied to a rope to the back of our peddle tractors having our own pull...and each one of us arguing over who was going to be Arfons!!! I have a family friend (one of my dad's frat brothers) who was in the FBI and was part of the team that investigated the Arfon's for how they obtained their first J79 jet engine (they bought three wrecked ones and built them into ONE (this from some backyard mechs who knew NOTHING about jet engines, and , at that time, the J79 was CLASSIFIED). GE pulled the serial numbers of the engines and ALL THREE were sold as SCRAP from the Air Force!....the rest of the story is that after nearly a year investigating (and recommending to the DOJ that charges be dropped) some the Arfon's biggest pulling fans are the FBI!
Such a legendary guy. My grandpa knew Arfons when he was on the road truck pulling. I have a video of him and his daughter at the Ohio State Fair in 1995.
Coolest tractor I ever saw him and his daughter in dragon lady as a kid at the pull was legendary and me and my mom's favorites tractors just unreal!!!🇺🇸
The way he duelled with Craig Breedlove for LSR ... in that Green Monster .. is a must to see . and he walked away from the salt being hugged by it pretty tight ;)

I remember the USHRA TRACTOR-PULLS at Barton Colosseum in Little Rock Arkansas YEARS AGO (late 90's)... Art and Dusty Arfons with the 'Green Monster'and 'Dragon Lady'. I was probably 9-13 years old and my dad would take me every year. Awesome memories 😎
This was great. It just needed to be longer. It is amazing by this time in the sport most teams were corporations with bunches of hired help. Meanwhile Art was driving a rig he built to each pull. There will never be another Art, no one will come close.
What a True Initiative Force in Motor Sports. I wonder what is going on with the Green Monster and Dragon Lady nowadays. I have to look and see if he attempted the Land Speed Record in the vehicle he was building. Thanks for the Great Video. His Hauler was pretty cool too.
Unfortunately the Arfons lost one of their family member when in 1987 was attempting to break the world speed record on water. I remembered the sleek jet engine thrusted boat was on display in Key West Florida during the powerboat race months later in Tampa Bay Florida Arfons was tempting the record breaking feat the boat went airborne and disintegrated upon impact. It went 300mph just before it's tragic fate.
Art Arfons, he truly was a class act.

I can remember watching him when I was 5 an 6 year old.... am 40 now man times flys when your having fun..👍👍👍👍
