Likewise, the initial impact of the Infernal can be aimed into trees as it will simply destroy all trees in the landing zone when the rock hits the ground.

So, looks like somewhere in the middle of develeopment he changed his spec to a strength hero and went from slender vampire type to what we have now, a bat grunt demon :) thanks for the spotlight!
Yep, believe one of their 'Annoyed' lines references this. Something about them, "not wearing a dress", which doesn't make sense on the final model given they aren't wearing anything that even resembles a dress.
Back in the day in 2v2 ladder my buddy and I would run orc/undead, chieftain and dreadlord. I would take sleep and vamp aura and actually avoid points in swarm. His grunts and other melee units would benefit from vamp aura, and the chiefs’ endurance aura would help us sleep surround enemy heroes and units easier.
@@SAPH.. My fav combo 2v2 as well, the most satisfying wins for sure. However, with experience, I realized that it has two fatal flaws: 1. Ok, go fiends, sounds amazing with vamp. grunts in front, right? Yeah, but it demands that you must stick together all the time, again sub-optimal for team games strategically. You can't do any of these things with dl+fiends, nor can you escape effectively if caught in the open or in front of the base. It's the worst, weakest, slowest and most defensless army combo available :(
Hey Grubby, thanks for your detailed info about the DL. I'm a big fan of this hero. I decided to share a very interesting strat that contradicts all your recommendations, but works wonderfully :). It's against NE only and I achieve about 90% winrate with it. I've always wondered whether this could work at higher level as well. The strat is quite simple - DL solo with sleep, aura, sleep etc., no expansion, double crypt, no shop or any other prod. building, early graveyard with immediate attack upgrade, pumping ghouls, fast creeping wit sleep, teching to tier3, healing by canibalism, avoiding enemy or fighting by sleep/surround or killing archers by ghouls. When DL is Lvl5, health and armor scrolls bought, frenzy ready and population 60-70 (of 3-1 ghouls with some 1-0 gargs), it's time to an all-in attack. The elf doesn't have enough tier3 units to withstand the attack yet. Elf's base is literally eaten alive (including the main tree, especially if you got a scroll of the beast). When his army arrives, you sleep eventual big units (bears, chims, giants) and the rest is stunned by incoming infernal and massacred by the frenzy vampiric ghouls, supported by scrolls and gargs. GG. If elf goes mass air, you just retrain to carrion swarm and add fiends.
I want to add to the "mobile defensive buildings" point at 13:45 - while it may not make any difference in practice, you can vampiric heal from night elf trees because they are classified as "ancients" and are therefore "alive" (because they consume a wisp on construction).
As a lore nerd it's so sad this "Sire Denathrius created Dreadlord and they used helm of domination to manipulate burning legion for the jailer" retcon is a canon story now. Pre shadowlands OG dreadlord story was good. Loyal servants of burning legion works as Lich kings jailer in wc3.
They kindaa tried to remedy it by saying that Denathrius had more plans for them that they now carry past helping the Jailer, but yeah, Jailer fucked up SOOO much of the lore
Yeah it's kind of a schism between OG lore nerds and new lore, which is forced to be made because of WoW content needs. Either way, Blizz said it's canon now so I go with it. It's still pretty interesting in isolated tidbits, even if it starts to feel convoluted or contrived sometimes. I feel like canon is the only thing that matters, rest is fanfic, which has the potential to be more awesome, but perhaps doesnt fit in a video of this kind, haha

mapmaker insights: you dont see the decimal numbers of damage and health but they exist. its just not displayed in the ui. but if you have a unit with 100 max health and take 90,6 damage, the ui will display 10 hp left but your real health is 9,4. if you now would take any damage above 9,4 your unit would die. this is so you can always be sure that, a skill that deals X damage will or will not kill, if it would round down and instead display 9 health, and you would do 9 damage. the unit then survives with 0,4 hp and it would display 1 hp left after you just dealt 9 damage to its displayed 9 health. that would be very confusing. the reason for the decimals is so the game can regenerate health in lower decimals. as base health regen is 0,250 units have 3 decimals of current health calculated.

Yup, melee specialist in range dominated game, while being weak tank and weak dps himself in melee, and leading worst melee units specifically designed to not become potentially OP with his aura, therefore low ghoul hp/armor/dmg, and abom slow movement and attack rate and low armor. Hey Grubby! Love these spotlight vids but I wanted to clear up the attack speed point 😅Gloves always provide an 18% increase on base DPS. The higher the base DPS, the better. So basic cooldown still matters but so does base dmg, and any effects e.g bash, crit, orb, or claws. Actually, claws of attack benefit solely from atk speed so would work better in your example. Extra Point: Atk Spd gains are additive meaning that each buff matters less than the last one. Meaning Orcs benefit less from Gloves once they already have TC aura!
OK I think that sounds true to me... how would you ELI5 the significance of good BCD? OR would you just describe his base damage at level 1 and his atq speed?
@@GrubbyTalks A smaller BAT increases the multiplicative impact of combining multiple types of attack increase (damage, attack speed, and proc-on-hit effects). This is a big deal in Dota because by late game you tend to stack a lot of those on the same hero. It's less likely to be important in WC3, where you can approximate the linear impact of any buff on a Lvl1 hero, and it's not that different from the impact of the same buff on the Lvl5 hero. But there is still a difference, and the more combat items you have on the same hero, the more difference it makes. In fact, there's already a small difference at Lvl1, because Gloves of Speed provides the same sort of IAS buff as base Agility score, so these two things are already getting diminishing returns with each other. Gloves of Speed won't really be quite 15%, it will be slightly less than that.
Anyone remember the time when Carrion Swarm would do max damage at the end of the spell cone and less at the start. Good old RoC. I think it made positioning more important for the DL.

7:20 Gotta love that attention to detail, where the little black visual effect of the spell doesn't appear above the Ghoul that didn't take damage. I'm guessing it means that the spell was essentially coded to disappear once it did its maximum damage (a neat way to prevent it from canceling Salves with 0 damage), and the only reason the green wave even remains in the air, is to ensure that the spell doesn't look awkward. And I like that detail about the black pulse, because the ability dealing no damage would look very confusing, otherwise. (Plus it gets especially noticeable in the Legends of Arkain campaigns, where some human factions can make Hydromancers, casters that can launch Crushing Waves, which deals 100 damage per unit, with a 300 damage cap. Army sizes in those campaigns can get quite enormous, so the lil detail about the spell effect actually saved those units from feeling jarring to use)
I'm loving this videos, bring a lot of insight into gameplay and match up, maybe in the future you can go into normal unit and touch into armor and dmg type too and how each race stack against each other, Thank you Grubby.
Grubby is definitely a Dreadlord 'cause I'm so easily lulled to sleep watching these videos. No joke, they're so useful for being able to get to sleep. Just wish there were more!
Remember in the wc3 chats, you could choose an icon for your profile, displaying your "prowess"? I think you needed 1500 wins in "1v1 Random Race" on bnet in order to unlock the infernal pic. That was unreachable for me, but damn looked it badass.
As a player returning after years and now making a strong comeback with UD, this is simply a perfect video. I enjoy your content and your charisma. Need DK and Lich 🤗
Both shockwave and the swarm has a hidden and short debuff to check if the unit was already hit. So, if your swam/shockwave projectile speed is extremely slow and/or the debuff is removed in the editor, single unit can be hit multiple times.

And then, after I get rid of this fool...Oh! Hello! I didn't know you were there!
I've been looking forward to this video! I love this series. Also yeah I come from the Tyler1 video :)
I'm loving this videos, bring a lot of insight into gameplay and match up, maybe in the future you can go into normal unit and touch into armor and dmg type too and how each race stack against each other, Thank you Grubby.
I'd love to see you do one on Dark Ranger, probably one of my favourite Hero/unit!
Doesn't the Priestess of the Moon tooltip describe her as a warrior hero?
"If I have wings, why am I always walking?" absolutely classic line~
I'd like to hear mostly about Keeper of the Grove, Brewmaster, Firelord and Shadow Hunter.
Dreddy my favorite hero to play
More grubby talks yasss
Finally my favorite hero is covered. I can die happy now!
Yeah this is amazing. I might add "As ASAPly as possible" to my everyday vocabulary
Great content!! As always
OMG..Grubby speaking about lores of warcraft world and heroes?!! Love this content already.
Thanks for this video! :D
I would love to see Shadow Hunter in the spotlight as it is one of my favorite heroes due to his flexibility
Damn. I always loved carrion swarm because i tought how much damage it can do, i never knew there was a limit of 1200 max dmg thing :/
Dark ranger needs to be shown, the best hero for fast creeping to lv6 to spam charm
Does overkill damage count towards the damage cap on carrion? Say it hits 60hp unit. Does it take out 60 or 75 hp from the pool?
only 19 more left ! good work grubby !!
AKA THE GRUB LORD !
I want them all and the serie to be completed! thx Grubby and thx to all those who support you.
My favorite hero !!!
Both shockwave and the swarm has a hidden and short debuff to check if the unit was already hit. So, if your swam/shockwave projectile speed is extremely slow and/or the debuff is removed in the editor, single unit can be hit multiple times.
Looking forward to seeing you cover Paladin next, Grubby! He's tied with Tauren Chieftan for being my favorite hero in the game to use.
dreadlord was the coolest undead hero for me when i first got the game back in 2002 at the age of 10 and the hitting motion and sound was delicious.
before frozen throne, the undead win screen used to be an epic art of a dread lord and i was sad when it was replaced with just a side profile of a crypt lord
