Holding on to the log, so it falls exactly in the right spot, might save more energy. At least that's what I think, but I could be wrong. Also dropping it while holding on to it, might give the body (shoulders etc.) a pretty rough shock.
We were there this past week. Hafthor injured the bottom of his foot during the 1st Monster trucks pull. Looked like a tendon tear of the plantar fascia under the foot. He posted a photo of the damage to Instagram. Pain usually gets worse when you try to move the foot or put weight on it. ... Still he continued on to the next event, Farmers Walk and Yoke carry he discovered a 200lb misload give or take. Then of course Day 2 of qualifier and then the finals. Can't imagine the pain during overhead press.. there you have it.. He's amazing

UPDATE: Group 1 had a three way tie for first place on this event so the judges decided that they would give 1st place 2nd place and 3rd place to the competitors in order from fastest to longest. Rob was given 5points, Thor was given 4 points and Luke was given 3 points
9 reps with 155kg strict with more in the tank is ridiculous..one of the strongest shoulders ever. If he finally learned how to leg drive he could possibly beat every overhead world record
You can do anything you want, push press, strict press, whatever. If Kearney was to set a world record with a push press, and somebody did 5kg less but with strict form, Kearney still wins because he has pushed the most amount of weight. That is all it is about. The most amount of weight moved, not the technique employed.

@@Anonymous-sb9rr I don't think people want to watch a significant number of total fails. Different athletes have different abilities, and on things like log lift and stones there is a lot of variation. For dead and squat-based events, you could probably target a lower number for the top guys.

This was reallyyy close for the Finale spot between Hafthor and Kearney. Only 1 point apart. If Thor had not gotten that last rep, he would have ended up in 3rd in this event and he would have to do the stone battle and Kearney would have advanced to the final.
Xol is correct here. With a 2 point lead, since I won this event, and if Thor had taken 3rd, we would have tied in point overall but based on the rules the tie breaker goes to the winner of the last event (which is Log in this case) therefore I who’d have advanced... unfortunately it didn’t play out that way, but I will be back stronger next year!!
@@Chair991 I've heard many other athletes critique Thor and his lack of leg drive. He admits himself that he avoids it due to knee pain. I just wish he could use it because he would be that much better.
Thor's last was not a complete rep. Staggered backwards with flexed arms. This bullshit bias pisses me off. So concerned with 'star power'. Rob just beat him and we all saw it.

Just dropping it could cause injury to the hands, forearms or shoulders. Speed reps with the log are difficult. It is an akward implement and it could also bounce and hurt his already injured foot as well. He knows what he is doing.

I wish they made the implements heavier. Seeing 10+ reps on a log or deadlift just seems like a lot to me for a strongman competition.
One competitor got two and another four. Make it much heavier and they both end up with zero.

Not exactly, there were 2 points separating them. Kearney also needed another rep to take individual first ahead of Luke Stoltman for that to happen
