- The City of San Antonio is planning to demolish its oldest and largest public housing project, the Alazan-Apache Courts, threatening the future of a historic neighborhood which anchors the city’s identity as the nation’s Mexican American capital. But their plans have been delayed for the time being after residents voiced their concerns.

I lived at Alazan Courts on Vera Cruz st right across from the cemetery. This was back in the '50s. These are my roots
I lived on Vera Cruz with my Grandma in the 80's & 90's. They demolished our side of the street (💔), but we could see The Alazan Courts Main Building from our place. The memories of growing up there with my family are with me in my heart everyday ❤ Nothing but PRIDE! ❤💪 Always.
That piknik got the best guisada
YOU SHOULD DO INTERVIEWS WITH THE PEOPLE & GROUPS AROUND THE AREA
Great idea!
Oh great. I'm glad to hear that. Us as well. We grew up in the Victoria Courts. I wish they would not have taken those down. We have moved on but we never forget where we came from. Those are our roots. They are the reason for who we are today. I am very proud to let folks know where I am from and all about our roots. God Bless you.
I remembered this. Long ago, it was a mess until the property got renovated and painted and added new features. It looks so neat and what gives to tear it down? Gangs issues? Or planning to built new government housing?
Brand new legacy at alazan apartments!
SAHA owns the lot and wants to build big "mixed income" high rises that can turn a profit, even if they have to kick out the families that live there
I was this neighborhood’s Amazon delivery driver lol my favorite route! I felt comfortable because I stayed in the west (:
That's awesome!
"' La Garra '' as Lanier HS on Brazos st.. used to be called before it was remodeled in the 70s
I'm from s.a. I love it, there's no place like home..I moved away 20 yrs ago..
My parents are from the west side. Mom went to Lanier, and dad to Fox Tech in the 70's
It has changed alot I grew up on San Luis & Comal across the Alazan courts. Went to J.T.Brackenbrick elementary & Lanier High
Cool!
This area was bad in the early nineties with gang stuff. It has settled down a lot!
Love my hood 207💯
I really like the quality of the filming that you did here. Very steady camera movement and good filming overall. What are you filming with?
Thanks! I'm using a GoPro 9.
Just found ur channel. Pretty cool bro. I’m from SA myself
Thanks for watching!
My family lived there from the 70s to late 90s , at 0:25 we lived in the 2nd building, and when you cross the street to the left ..all those new houses were a section on the courts they demolished and build the newer ones next to the main building
I'm from the San Juan Courts to. Just seen this video good video.
Thanks for watching Bro!
When were you living at the San Juan Courts?
@@1DayInLife I was was there since I was born from 81 to 99 but now my family lives in the houses around there. I still go out there. I moved out here to Culebra now and I seen that video from there to. I love my block I love my hood. My family's restaurant is Aparicio's food to go on Ceralvo and Calaveras. If you're from there u know which one it is. Can't Miss it. So I still go almost every day. I know almost everyone out there to and if I don't they know my family
@@johnnyvillarreal8901 I remember that taco place and la Blanca barrio lived there from 62 to 69. I remember the owners lived in the house behind the restaurant wasn't one of the brothers name David and one Ramiro , man that was a long time ago those courts were replaced with new apartments and that taco place is now a hamburger stand is it still owned by the same family
Show what it's like at night time
Looks pretty quiet to me, where all the people at . That's a good thing though . Quiet is always a good thing.
It was a weekday morning.
Thanks for watching!
Man i lived in the apache courts in the early 90's b y the baseball field that used ro be there lived with my grandparents went to jt brackenridge as well man back then it was fight or flight to survive

Yes, on a bike. Thanks for watching😎
Ive cleaned up many homicides in this area. Think it's a little different when the sun goes down.
Everything chgs at night anywhere☹
I never hear your freewheel going round on your bike? fixed gear?
I used to live there when I was about 2
It is surprisingly quiet. Not many people outside.
The video was filmed on a Monday morning.
I hope to film there again soon during a Friday or Saturday afternoon/evening.
I used to live there in the 70s before they were remodeled and went to JT Brackenridge before it was remodeled .. Our block was from Brazos to Zarsamora on Guadalupe st ..witnessed alot of murders during that time , extorted bar customers for protection of their cars and did a little bit of shining shoes to survive and i was only 10 .. That's how it goes when you don't have parents at home to take care of you and feed you and you're just stuck fending for yourself ! No wonder why i couldn't shed a tear when my parents passed away ! Im almost 60 and 3thousand miles away and i still have nightmares of that horrible place !
Thanks for sharing your story bro!
Wow, I grew up in that same barrio n I used to show shined in the 70s, from Zarzamora to brazos. I was a Tiny Loco back then. U might remember them. We used to fight all kinds of gangs in all that area , we were nothing bt cholos. I'm fixing to b 61 soon. It was a dangerous place back then. I, too, saw a lot of killings in the barrio. I got shot n stabbed growing up there.
