Absolument magnifique!
My all time favorite Loris interpreter. He and Freni work so well together. And of course, he gets the "bravos!" and ovation he deserves. Simply wonderful. The greatest tenor ever.
La mejor version de esta aria que he oido nunca.Aqui al lado aparecen las viñetas de los mejores tenores de siempre,cada uno con sus peculiaridades,pero en esta AMOR DI VIETA,Placido Domingo la borda.Bravissimo Plácido.
Canta histéricamente una aria romántica... Y lo hace con esfuerzo en una aria tan sencilla como lo es el Amor ti vieta.
Disculpe,pero podrían suceder dos cosas: una,que a Ud no le entusiasme Domingo y dos que esté Ud sordo.A menos que trate de despreciar la reacción de los asistentes que,por cierto,no deja lugar a dudas.Que conste que tampoco soy muy de Domingo pero en este aria hay que quitarse el sombrero amigo mio.

Aquí se emplea a fondo, donde debe ser sutil y romántico. Mal cantada esta aria por Plácido Domingo.

[Chuckle]: I "arrested" Placido Domingo in Act-II of 《Tosca》. I worked as a Paid-actor (non-singing) Supernumerary @ Lyric Opera of Chicago. Eight Productions, in the 1980s-1990s.

Is that Merille Freni in this Vidéo? I worked with her, too, in a different production. Also lovely. Easy-to-be-with & a gracious Performer, along-with her buddy, Alfredo Kraus. All my "Work-mates" - (ho-ho!)
I think it is well known that Domingo's "principle" voice was not powerful but the "interest" of his overtones carries the voice so that it can cut through and allow him to perform in many roles. This in no way takes away from the greatness that the man possesses, in fact, in some ways it could be what makes him "greater"

Nadie interpreta como él ni canta con esa nobleza. No tiene rival, porque Domingo es artista, además de cantante.

This is Placido at his absolute best, his voice is now sounding gruff and burnt out in his twilight years and lacks the upper range it had 20-30 years ago, he is more of a Baritone now then a true Tenor. In his prime there where few that could rival him except of course for his close Three Tenor companions Carreras and Pavarotti.
The last tenor still alive singing with the Traditional Italian Method !

That would depend on your definition of powerful. I've seen him sing "Amor ti vieta" a couple of times live and he was in no way underpowered, unless your definition of underpowered includes 90% of the top tenors singing today. If, however, you mean he wasn't rattling the rafters like Caruso and Del Monaco, then I agree.
The high note on "t'amo" (1:14) in this aria entirely filled the hall with a big ringing sound live. Of course, he was louder in Otello, but softer in Idomeneo, so it depends.
