@regina Iam agreed! I love this film. I’ve seen a lot of productions and screen adaptations of Carmen, but Migenes and Domingo really are unmatched when it comes to fitting their roles and their chemistry. They didn’t just play the characters on screen, they brought them to life. People don’t like the fact that Migenes is actually a high soprano, when Carmen was written for a mezzo, but her voice still fits the role very well in my opinion and she really is the ultimate Carmen. She never got to play the role onstage because her voice is too high and light to be able to sing Carmen’s chesty tones over an orchestra, so it makes sense why she never did. But, I love how she was chosen for the film because her performance in it is really wonderful and her performance will be able to be remembered forever. In general a beautifully made film ♥️
Carmen is my favorite opera. I have seen many version of Carmen and Julia Migenes is the only one I feel totally nailed the role of such an alluring, animal magnetism, an earthy woman who could cause a man to toss his military career and his fiancé. And she shows the psychopathic side of her so very well as she manipulates, ruins and dumps her lover.
If I remember correctly I’m pretty sure that all of the music was recorded in a studio before they filmed it, so at least she didn’t have to sing it live in a corset. Opera is also incredibly demanding physically and vocally, so having them sing live take after take wouldn’t be a good idea
The story takes place in the 1820’s in Spain, a time when women did not shave their armpits. As a French man, even today it’s still common to see some women without shaved armpits
That comment abaut her armpits is really strange...that's what You concentrate on when watching and listening to opera? A Carmen with shaved armpits would look very inauthentic given the time.
I know this isn’t my typical content I upload, but along with being a Broadway lover, I’m an Opera lover too ♥️

정말 고마워요!
For me this is the best version of this aria 🧡🔥
Totally agree ! (I am french, so be nice for mistake, please)
The best version of Carmen I have seen
Best Carmen ever !

Agnes Baltsa also
Since i was a little child, i loved it
Julia fits in this role the best. There may be better sopranos, but for this role, there's no one better.
Bravísima la Migenes!!!!!❤❤
Thank you ; this is exactly what i was searching for.
Это лучшее исполнение сегидильи и самого образа Кармен!
Absolut minunati❤❤
Потрясающее исполнение. Звучит одновременно очень нежно, очень соблазнительно и иногда немножко нагло. Абсолютно совпадает с образом Кармен ❤
When I watch and listen to this one, I do understand why and how this is a scene of a seduction ❤️
She does real nice. And of course, Placido is Placido.
Agreed, perfect Carmen and Don Jose!
Absolut minunati❤❤
She sang that and with a corset on too!

I heard lots of Carmen. She is the best. Too much better then Callas.
You don't know much about opera
@fritzh.8553 you are right. I know nothing. And you are the expert. You stay with Callas and I stay with Julia. 🤦♂️ God bless you.
Great Performance! Domingo as Don Jose amazing!!! ( I still have Agnes Baltsa as my favorite Carmen) What´s with her armpits!!!! hahahaha

@@broadwaylover3105 I don't know how it's in France, but in Spain nowadays of course women shave. 😳
