Terry Hearn: Carp Fishing

  • Terry Hearn is quite possibly the most famous carp angler in the UK. Fishing the estate lake at Eynsham Hall in Oxford he shows just why he appears to catch more carp than anyone else....providing he can get past the tench. After a couple of tinca's took his bait, right at the death a lovely 20lb+ mirror carp came along to appear in front of the cameras.

    Nice to see Terry Hearn catching a lovely mirror using Steve Neville alarms. Great alarms, simple and do exactly what you want very reliably.

    Hardest thing about carp fishing for me is getting out of my bivvy and bed in the middle of winter is the rain at 4:00am but i love the entire experience of it even if i dont catch.... who cares if you blank got the rest of your life to try again, all types of fishing are easy in some aspects and hard in others all very different but yet exactly the same buzz!
    Tight Lines to you all.
    P.S what are your PB's (personal best fish) Mine is an 81.07lb catfish caught in france last year =)

    @TheFishingChannel Wouldn't that be a carp in the States, and where can I learn about his tackle, what brand and where his rod & reel is from? I use a carp rod from Cabela's for catching hybrid stripers (cross of Sea run and white bass) in tail waters at the local reservoir (long distance casting of around 2-3 ounces)

    I take my hat to carp fisherman.... The skill involved is immense - It takes years of training to sit on your arse for hours waiting for a buzzer to go off. They even fashion themselves with f***ed up hair cuts and sunnies. Nice one boys. Go make some more boilies.

    @13098519 I prefer the heavy test mono-filament that are pre-tied to the hooks & I use 3 snap swivels: an egg sinker on the bottom with 1 leader & hook below that to rest on the bottom, 1 swivel & hook & leader 8 inches above, & another one 8 inches up from that. I don't remember the exact weight of the pre-tied leaders but it's somewhere between 20-30 lb. test.. I usually use 10 lb. test main line & found that's enough to take even the biggest carp & still allow for a very long cast.

    wait a second, just spotted this post, i am keen on fly fishing as well as carp fishing and i can tell you now, carp fishing is much harder to get a bite on a low stocked big fish water, fly fishing is all about technique and i can imagine for a beginner that can be tricky as i once found, but with regard to catching fly fishing is easy in comparison. Also your point about trees and wind, well, watch where you cast, and carp fishing is harder to be acturate, every aspect is harder.

    Totaly agree with what your saying about the tackle market..but in all fairness you have some excellent anglers that market a range of tackle e.g Rod Hutchinson and Kev 'i think i'm a superstar so don't talk to me' Nash..I started carp angling in the early 80's when it was an achievment to bank a twenty and i used to scour the fishing mags and books for anything that was written by Ritchie Mcdonald (remember him)..Days long gone by :)

    you dont need that beeping stuff. all u have to do is pull the line down a little bit on the middle of your rode and break a little green stick in have so its still attached and it will hold the line down so if u get a bite it will either go up or down!

    Carp fishing on low stocked gravel pits, is certainly one of the hardest types of fishing, people think because buzzers are involved it is therefore easy, this isn't the case, i know many people that have done up to and past the 50 night mark with out one bite, sounds easy to me.

    Sorry to intrude on this conversation but I just assumed you where from the UK. Im originally from the states and yeah for the most part all we have that ive seen are regular grass carp, they get like 10 pounds biggest I guess. But in south Florida and other places they have mad a boilogically made grass carp called a triploid, they get huge, but cant reproduce, made that way to clear vegetation. I accidentially caught one that weighed over 60 pounds, it was like a big gold whale.

    @CaneFu 14 років тому

    @CaneFu However, you don't have to use these exact figures - just make sure that your leader is stronger than your main line so you don't lose any fish because of a weak leader. Catching carp isn't really complicated science like people in this video try to make it appear. Good bait and patience are the 2 main ingredients. I use the original Van Do Carp Bait and it has caught more carp for me than anything else.

  • @smartguy104

    I was never a big fan of carp I like to fish to eat. But when I catch and release I love to fish for carp. what you need is some mcdonalds french fries they love the salt and the fatty grease. just put the french fry on the hook cast out bring it in slowly alowing it to sit on the bottom for ten seconds at a time and eventually you'll get some big ones deffinetely I use 10 pound test or higher line for carp i lost to many hooks on my usual crappie bass and bluegill rig.
