There are 3 KFC locations in my city. 2 of them are exactly how you describe in the video. The other location, is AMAZING! They clean every single night, top to bottom, as a restaurant should be cleaned. To work with the prices, since they can't lower their prices what do they do? With an 8 piece meal, you can bet your ass you will get 11-12 pieces of chicken! My favorite is the $5 chicken tender fill up meal. You're supposed to get 3 chicken tenders, on the dozen or so times I have gotten it from that location, I have not gotten less than 5 large tenders. They also never have cold or even lukewarm food, it always is fresh and hot, even though you gotta wait a while longer. I wish all KFCs were as good as that one. That one location beats out popeyes for me, and I won't compare chick fil a because they dont do family chicken meals.
Colonel Sanders' time after KFC was actually depressing. He patented his pressure-cooking method, started a little chicken shop, and, to his surprise, it caught on. It became a chain. When you make another restaurant, you no longer have complete control of the franchise. He couldn't make sure all his stores kept up the quality he desired, and he became incredibly frustrated with the poor quality of most of the locations. He would tour around and express extreme disatisfaction with the product. However, he was permanently associated with brand, and he couldn't quit. His creation got out of hand. I can't imagine what he would feel like if he sampled KFC today.
In philippines its good. The stores are clean and the bathrooms too. The bucket (8pcs) cost around 500Philippine Pesos I think? and thats like 10$ or less
Before the Colonel passed away, he sold the company. And....the new owners immediately changed the recipe. The Colonel was so upset, that he tried to have his name and likeness removed from the business, but was unable, legally, to do so. So, not only do they need to clean up their act - they need to RETURN the ORIGINAL recipe! THAT is what made the chicken wonderful, and they changed it to save $$$$. They are riding on the Colonel's reputation to sell their cheapened product, and they think that we, the public won't notice, or care (I guess).
+StarWish246 You're absolutely right. When Col. Sanders still owned the KFC franchise, he was very demanding when it came to his restaurants adhering to his recipe and cooking methods. Not only was the chicken cooked according to his original recipe, but the side dishes - particularly the mashed potatoes and gravy - were much better. They used to sell peach pies and cherry pies in my local KFC. Not by the slice, but by the whole pie. And they were so good you *wanted* to buy a whole pie. And they served Coca-Cola! Then KFC was purchased by Pepsi-Cola, and things almost immediately went to pot. The chicken got greasy, and way too heavily herbed and spiced. The mashed potatoes took on a soapy flavor. And they switched from selling Coke to Pepsi (ugh!)And the prices, which were never low, went up considerably. Now, in comparison, the best fried chicken for sale out there is Popeye's (as long as you buy the regular, and not the spicy). Popeye's chicken is delicious, and so are their sides. Their food puts KFC to shame, and somehow they're a lot cheaper (which makes no sense at all, but I'm not complaining!) Try their mashed potatoes and gravy, or their red beans and rice - both favorites of mine. And they have a 10 piece (legs and thighs) box of chicken which is only $6.99 at my local Popeye's. That's 70 cents per piece! Go to KFC and see what $.70 cents will get you. While it's a shame that children today will not be able to experience what KFC once was, they can experience something much better - take them to Popeye's!!
In Japan, KFC is the go to Christmas dinner for just about everybody. I'm serious. You order ahead, then pick up a lovely gift box with a startlingly elegant meal (compared to the normal food served). I think it's about $50 USD, and everyone is happy. It doesn't have a stigma, like it would here in the US: "You had WHAT for Christmas dinner??!" But it's a tradition over there, and people just love good ole Uncle Kentucky. It is also quite popular in South Korea. Sigh, I too miss the Kentucky Fried Chicken of my childhood. Great video, my friend! Just subscribed :)
+Vivian James It's also less common to have a full size oven in a Japanese "manshon"(apartment/condo). They bring out huge rotisserie cookers, you pre-order the meals(similar to what happens at Marie Callenders etc on Thanksgiving), and the setup is usually outside(it wouldn't fit inside). FWIW, the KFC in the states has a bad menu, bad food, and bad service(everything is premade. It should take under a minute to make the food.) They don't say "Goin to Kentucky" in the U.S. like they do in Japan.
Vivian James Same with McDonald's. In the Philippines, it's for the upper-end of the middle class fast food diners, so it's actually higher quality here than in the US.
why do japan kfc have good looking fries while the California ones only have French fries with the aw side not just kfc alone and their average fries at best?...I want fries damn it
There is a KFC/Taco bell in my town. You don't know filth and piss poor service until you've witnessed the horror of having both a KFC and a taco bell under one roof. Its fucking dismal.
I am from Sweden and I clearly remember being incredibly happy in ca. 2015/2016 when they announced that they were opening a KFC near my home because I had heard about it all this time. I also clearly remember going there and being shocked at the extreme prizes for some low quality chicken. I believe me and my sister spent close to 50 bucks for some sub par chicken, corn and coleslaw.
Dani Motanu fucking Romania is the best lmao 😂😂. The only problem I had in Romania was 5 year olds screaming fortnite but other than that, it’s all good
Going back to the 1960s, Colonel Sanders had issues with what KFC corporate was doing with his recipe. If you ever find yourself in Kentucky, there's a restaurant called Claudia Sanders Dinner House which is named for the Colonel's wife. Being a single restaurant and sole proprietorship, the Sanders were able to make food the way that they wanted to without worrying about corporate sacrificing quality to save money. That restaurant is located in Shelbyville, KY which is not too far from Louisville. If you are in the area its worth checking out and while you're at it, driving to Louisville and trying what is, in my opinion, the best fried chicken in Kentucky and therefore the U.S., Indi's Fried Chicken. There's a few locations in Louisville and its definitely worth trying if you're in the area.
My local KFC has actually started to turn the corner. Every once in awhile we got a piece that's a little overdone but the building is neat the floors actually look decent and only on a rare occasion if I gotten a greasy piece of chicken. I do a credit this to an active manager and a franchisor who realize what's happening to the brand and who care about the vision that dear old Colonel Sanders once had.
Sort of like the TacoTimes in the mid/western United States. It's absolute shit everywhere else but where I live, its the bomb because the franchisee actually gives a shit and sets quality standards way above what the franchisor expects. A good restaurant needs to have an owner with a good sense of business, and a manager that is a good team player who knows how to keep things running smoothly and keep their cool.
The rest of the world enjoys better fast food places in general. Because they eat fast food less on birthdays, holidays, and special occassions it's marketed more towards quality instead of fast service. Pizza Hut in China is like a restaurant. They offered me and I quote "ice cream released in the French branch 12 hours before" after finishing a meal. I didn't even know that there's specialty foods per branch.
I’m in the UK and KFC over here is?? alright? From my experience we don’t have the expensive prices, annoying ads nor are we getting the wrong order but the service and cleanliness is still such a large issue I refuse to eat in. Like yeah the adverts don’t anger me but they don’t convince me to stand in a dirty cold restaurant for 15 minutes waiting for my mediocre chicken
I’ve actually seen some KFC ads using some older commercial clips and taking themselves a lot more seriously and getting in on nostalgia, and every time I do I remember this video. I wonder if they actually took some of these criticisms to heart?
The terrible ads remind me that good fast food places like Whataburger, In-n-Out, and Chick-fil-A are better because they spend money on quality and not insultingly bad ads.
Timothy Mckee you mean ask a fat Southern Republican lol Democrats are the ones making whole foods and trader Joe's popular who needs fried shit when you can cook healthy
Who wants to waste $41 on a bucket of crap? Or more importantly, who wants to waste their money on a fast food restaurant when you can go to a pleasant restaurant?
Adam TV seriously I was in KFC in a bunch of countries in Europe and other continents... Poland has by far the best quality, cleanness and above all the best staff I've ever experienced in any of the KFCs around the world
It doesn't taste as rich as it used to be. I remembered KFC in Indonesia used to have this special menu of spiced crispy chicken beside the original and the crispy ones. Also it used to be saltier and crunchier.
Christian Djami that is awesome man. I rather have smashed fried chicken from Indonesia instead aka ayam penyet haha. Kfc here in Singapore really sux now
Roh G Local food has been always a better opinion. With the increase of sanitation knowledge, people are more interested in unique local food rather than generic chicken that could be found anywhere. Best regards from Indonesia too :)
Well, that is something I didn’t expect to add to the “Things not to try in America” list. That list didn’t even exist until this video. I have to appreciate how great the KFC is in my country.
I wouldn't recommend Burger King or McDonald's if you ever visit here, for that matter. They're consistently ranked near the bottom of many polls. Besides, you can find plenty of better fast food restaurants out here. Even places like Wendy's and Carl's Jr. are a step above those two.
Omfg I swear... I'm part Japanese and I've never heared of this stuff. The Japanese side of my family would've told me. WHERE HAVE YOU GUYS HEARED THIS?!?!?
Polish guy here, while we have KFC here the vast majority goes to McDonald's. However we have the small KFC restaurants in shopping malls that are usually clean and fast.
@The Bandog "knowing Austin" that's the thing, we don't know him. We only only the parts of him he chooses to put online, as with all UA-camrs, so you can't really give him the benefit of the doubt because you *think* that's not something he'd do
bluedragon4sho How fucking dumb are you? KFC does not use real chickens. They actually use genetically manipulated organisms. These so called "chickens" are kept alive by tubes inserted into their bodies to pump blood and nutrients throughout their structure. They have no beaks, no feathers, and no feet. Their bone structure is dramatically shrunk to get more meat out of them. This is great for KFC because they do not have to pay so much for their production costs. There is no more plucking of the feathers or the removal of the beaks and feet.
I literally just ordered it... But I’m not in the USA, KFC in Asia is quite good and im not in the Philippines (no offense to people from the Philippines) its actually Pakistan where i am
Dapurplenurple1 Holiday1 used to love kfc when I was 4 it was amazing but when I turned 8 it got a lot chunky are the fries get hard and cold the only thing I really like is mashies bread chicken and small fries
cami !, True dat, but KFC in China? If you go there and try it, please report back. You know, the conditions of the restaurants, the food quality and the other stuff that I have already forgotten. Because if it’s in China 🇨🇳 and has what the American restaurant don’t, it will definitely not go bankrupt.
as i have said in a previous comment, I have lived in china for two years, eating there more times than i want to remember, and the food standard is terrible. However, I do not know how it stacks up to american KFC
how about they actually go back to original recipe ? no matter what you order it's all the same !!! where are the eleven herbs and spices you could actually taste, its all extra tasteless crispy CRAP
i went to a KFC stop and they ask me which one would i eat? the original of the crispy chicken. so i have to wait 20 mins ( which is VERY long for a fastfood restaurant ) for my original because nobody eat the crispy one so the original is constantly out of order. that's 2 year ago and still the same today
I’m 65. When grandma treated us to Kentucky Fried!!??? Oh man, mashed, cole slaw and wow those biscuits! Haven’t been to a KFC since they started calling it KFC instead of Kentucky Fried. Grandma always asked if we wanted “something from the Colonel!
What would colonel Sanders do? Her'd sell his American rights to investors, like he did in 1965, and open up _Scott's Chicken Villas_ all over Canada, selling his original recipe chicken with those 11 herbs and spices that they didn't sell at any of the franchises in the USA. And he'd run his Canadian chicken empire from his offices at Jane & Wilson in Toronto while living in mississauga, Ontario. So, I don't know what chicken you were eating, but it wasn't the Colonel's chicken. Bonus fact: Colonel Sanders's famous 11 herbs and spices shouldn't have been all that much of a mystery in the south, as it was just poultry seasoning with a mix of southern BBQ spices. Poultry Seasoning: • 1 tbsp thyme • 2 tsp sage • 2 tsp Marjoram • 1 tsp rosemary • 1 tsp black pepper • 1 tsp salt Southern BBQ spices: • 1-1/2 tsp garlic powder • 1 tsp cayenne pepper • 1/2 tsp cumin • 1 tsp chili powder • 1 tsp coriander Mix spices in two to three cups of flour for dredging chicken in a wash of 2 eggs and 1/4 cup of milk.
jackdeath wait, you're telling me I'm living in the same city as the colonel? because their is a KFC here, and it complete garbage, like in the video. I could go to his house, knock on his door, and ask for some nice ass chicken? sign me up.
Figures the food chain based in America cares the least about the establishments in America.. I have to travel 3 hours just to get a good ol bucket of heartburn.
Last time I visited Europe KFC was pretty good as well. It reminded me of how it used to be in Canada & the US. Last time I ordered KFC in Toronto I got a bad stomach ache for days

2 biggest fried chicken fast food franchise here
Before the Colonel passed away, he sold the company.
Mike Sheppard Why you hatin' on Pepsi though???
+Derrick Jackson Because it's too thick, too sweet, and has a nasty aftertaste.

It seems to have blown up in China now as well lol
+Vivian James It's also less common to have a full size oven in a Japanese "manshon"(apartment/condo). They bring out huge rotisserie cookers, you pre-order the meals(similar to what happens at Marie Callenders etc on Thanksgiving), and the setup is usually outside(it wouldn't fit inside). FWIW, the KFC in the states has a bad menu, bad food, and bad service(everything is premade. It should take under a minute to make the food.) They don't say "Goin to Kentucky" in the U.S. like they do in Japan.
Vivian James
Same with McDonald's. In the Philippines, it's for the upper-end of the middle class fast food diners, so it's actually higher quality here than in the US.

David Miller still not healthy but that is still pretty nice
It's fast food nobody thinks it's healthy
Bob de builder
Wait, are you telling me that processed fried meat isn't healthy? No way!
Bob de builder Colonel was so overwhelmed he sold his business for 2 million
Sort of like the TacoTimes in the mid/western United States. It's absolute shit everywhere else but where I live, its the bomb because the franchisee actually gives a shit and sets quality standards way above what the franchisor expects. A good restaurant needs to have an owner with a good sense of business, and a manager that is a good team player who knows how to keep things running smoothly and keep their cool.
Reading the comments and my own personal experience, it feels like this is a US thing. The rest of the world enjoys amazing KFC meals and services.
Yea i think its just a US thinv
No the UK has the same problem - the chicken isn’t great and I only like the burgers and wraps
Korean KFC is expensive but great
I’ve actually seen some KFC ads using some older commercial clips and taking themselves a lot more seriously and getting in on nostalgia, and every time I do I remember this video. I wonder if they actually took some of these criticisms to heart?
This made me want to eat KFC more than any of the ads
dang thats sad
The terrible ads remind me that good fast food places like Whataburger, In-n-Out, and Chick-fil-A are better because they spend money on quality and not insultingly bad ads.
There is a big difference from a 30 second ad and a 8 minute and 29 second one.

Bonus fact:
Colonel Sanders's famous 11 herbs and spices shouldn't have been all that much of a mystery in the south, as it was just poultry seasoning with a mix of southern BBQ spices.
Poultry Seasoning:
• 1 tbsp thyme
• 2 tsp sage
• 2 tsp Marjoram
• 1 tsp rosemary
• 1 tsp black pepper
• 1 tsp salt
Southern BBQ spices:
• 1-1/2 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp cayenne pepper
• 1/2 tsp cumin
• 1 tsp chili powder
• 1 tsp coriander
Mix spices in two to three cups of flour for dredging chicken in a wash of 2 eggs and 1/4 cup of milk.
