Introduction of Kryptonite, the element created in the comics to give Supes a weakness and stop him from being too overpowered. Problem is it became ridiculously common for a supposed 'rare element', even developing different colors with varying goofy negative effects. This version never gets quite that silly, just using the normal type being something that Luthor pays to gather as much as possible and weaponize. Nice foreshadowing with Lois playing wastepaper basket ball.
@@Yorishiriamori In the continuity of this show (and some others like Smallville), a large quantity of kryptonite was caught in the field of Kal-El's capsule when it went into warp speed. That's why there's so much of it spread all over the Earth.
@@YorishiriamoriThankfully in this version and several others, even men like Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor can only get a small amount because it's so rare.
Maybe without realizing it you've pointed out Superman's real disguise. It's not just the glasses, it the fact that Superman is a bold dynamic person and Clark Kent is a mild-mannered reporter. In the early comics Clark would often shrink in fear when confronted making Lois think he was a coward, the total opposite of what she thought of Superman. Trivia: The real origin of kryptonite. Back in the 1940's their was Superman radio show that was super popular. The main voice actor needed a vacation but they couldn't stop the show. So they invented Kryptonite that made Superman too weak to even speak, so while the lead actor was on vacation Superman would be moaning in agony from the kryptonite until his vacation ended.
I wouldn't recommend reading Crisis on Infinite Earths yet, it's a lot for an experienced DC reader let alone a brand new fan. But some beginner friendly Superman comics to read are Superman Smashes the Klan, Superman: Birthright, and Superman: Brainiac. I highly recommend those 3.
I think you underestimate what Meg can handle. Yes, Crisis on Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis can be overwhelming to an average fan, but at the same time it gives her a perfect introduction to a lot of characters and the entry way into many great movies and comics. I know not everyone will agree with Crisis this early, but I truly believe that Meg can handle it. She's already absorbing the Batman Arkham games and is eager to learn about many of these characters. I talked to a lot of people and while initially I was looking into the Infinite Crisis Omnibus to see if it was something Meg could start with, and it was recommended that I include Crisis on Infinite Earth which I agree with. And ultimately this is actually the journey I took when it comes to delving into the comics. While yes I did have more of a basis from the Animated Series, Infinite Crisis was one of my first experiences in the comics. And many others have said the same thing as well. Given that Meg has already learned the Witcher lore and other video game lore, I don't think Crisis is much different at all. I think for Meg's journey this is the perfect direction to go in because she's eager to get into the comics and simply needs some places to start. And the perfect place to start is the pivotal moments in the DC comics. This also allows her to not have to by 1000 comic books before getting into the really good ones. Ultimately this is Meg's journey and I think it's very fitting to her personality and ambitions.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was one of the first DC comics I ever read. I had no idea who most of the characters were, but it totally whet my appetite to learn more.
She's smart and has a great personality. I'm often disappointed by the many different Lois's I see in Superman movies/shows/animated series. I think this version also has to be my most favorite one. Number 2 is probably Teri Hatcher's version.
Some people say Kryptonite is a silly weakness-they actually tried getting rid of it as early as 1970-but in some ways, it's kind of poignant that what's left of his birthplace is literally poisonous to him, that the death of Krypton followed him home to snatch him with the rest.
@@Doodle1678Apparently it’s because the entity of Fear Parallax was trapped in the Green Lantern’s Central Power Battery. And the colour of Fear is Yellow. But the Green Lanterns who are able to strengthen their wills are able to overpower their Yellow weakness.
Depending on continuity. However, this Metropolis is based on greater Chicago. Why else would Bruce Wayne need to fly to get there? Also its a sorta cliché for the small town from the mid-west to move to the windy city to make it big. Now other films like the Snyder-Verse have both cities across the river from each other Which I really, really hate.

That's one thing this series did with Lois that to that point (and arguably since) hasn't been done with her. It made her more than just a damsel in distress; she actively contributed and stood on her own when the story necessitated it, and this show did it with integrity and authenticity - not with shallow measures or half-hearted placation in mind.
This episode might be my favorite introduction to Kryptonite in any version of Superman; it's very well-scripted, doing a fine accidental discovery, and the scientific elements feel grounded. The mechanical dinosaur winds up being the most fantastical thing going on. The way Lex in the Donner film basically wills it into existence by being really smart always rubbed me the wrong way, so much so that I made a whole rant video about it.

''This show is kinda feminist.'' It was made in the era where you had several strong female characters in tv shows/cartoons but they wouldn't write them horrendously bad, like they do nowadays. They would just write them ''normally'' like they would write a male character. These days I find the way many characters are written to be very preachy, which leads to the opposite effect of what they are trying to achieve. Female lead character Ripley from Alien for example was a badass, not a ''badass woman'' while these days the writers try to write a ''badass woman'' instead of just writing a badass.
Crisis on infinite earths, I think it’s the start of modern dc universe or the end of I guess classic era. Also, the more you learn about the dc universe, you’ll discover that dc uses sidekicks and legacy characters way more than marvel does.

There's also the show _Smallville_, which ran from 2001 to 2011, and depicted a young Clark Kent growing into his powers before he becomes Superman. Lois first appears in season 4, and from her first scene she's everything you'd expect from Lois Lane. As for how Lois doesn't put it together - the idea was well-depicted in the 1979 live-action movie; Clark's entire demeanour and posture changes when he's Superman vs when he's "Clark", such that he almost looks like a completely different person. For most of the history of the characters - Superman first appeared in comics in 1938 - it was just a thing that Lois never knew Clark's secret identity. That changed in the 1990s - in the comics, Clark and Lois started dating, and Clark revealed his identity to her, and they married a few years later. This was paralleled in the TV show "Lois & Clark" (also called "The New Adventures of Superman" in some countries). To be honest, though, there's no rush to consume it all. The DC Animated Universe is plenty of content to be delving into right now, and the best is yet to come.
