- After a death-defying start to life the littlest of chimpanzees at Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, Little Joey (affectionately known as LJ), makes a strong comeback because of the 24/7 hands-on, expert care of Chimfunshi’s incredible veterinarian Thalita Calvi.
Vet Calvi and others at Chimfunshi care for more than 130 chimpanzees, plus many other animals on the property. Please learn more about their critical work and donate here ➜ www.chimfunshi.com

What the heck am I doing with my life?! I always watch these videos and am reminded I had all these dreams of doing something like this when I grew up, but I obviously didn’t follow through. The closest I’ve come is helping my local wildlife rescue. But I live in the states, therefore there aren’t these kinds of incredible creatures. Don’t get me wrong though, I take enormous pride in helping where I can. And I believe a life is a life, no matter what. But now that my son is raised I’ve been putting a lot more thought into this.
Anyway, I LOVE how so many people are able to commit their time and resources in hopes of saving all of our beautiful creatures. Thank you!!!
I know exactly how you feel. It looks like very fulfilling work. I have no doubt it can be very heartbreaking too. Especially if you're working in Africa or with the orangutans in Borneo. I also have no doubt that if I was ever given the opportunity to work with these magnificent creatures, that it would be one of the most profound experiences of my life. Don't give up quite yet. We never know what fate has in store for us.
@@bigiron7547 How old are you?
My friend first helping at a wildlife center is great, please remember any animal you help can be a fulfilling deed.We all want to work with the more 'EXOTIC ' like chimps, dolphins, baby anything but remember they all need a helping hand.Even if its only a cat, dog,or armadillo.I feed 10 stray cats that the county fixed and released, its very rewarding.I try to keep them from being hungry but still have them look for food.Their separate personalities are funny and interesting to watch. What I'm saying is your doing a good thing look for the up side, any animal can teach you if you let them. You can always check at the zoo for volunteering, and a wildlife haven where I'm at take care of beautiful baby beavers ,otters, deer, baby hogs. Thank you for hanging in there and helping your local friends.I hope you find what your looking for.🙉
Id love to do this and work with and help apes and monkeys. Think about it all the time
Youre a beautiful human being. Thanks for sharing
I see so much of a real human newborn in chimps that young, the way they move and squirm like real babies, they way they yawn and there chunky bellies are so much like a human baby
Awww, tiny little Joey is the tiniest chimp I have seen so far! So happy Little Jane was ready to take her baby back. God bless them always and their rescuers at Chimpfunshi.
Omg, he doesn't even look real. He's just a doll. So precious. I'm so jealous of the vet that got to have him live with her and cared for him for a month. How special this video was
This pulls on the heart strings! She did a wonderful job and I know it was hard for her to give him back, but she knew it was the right thing. I would like to have seen that part also.
I have watched this so many times and it still puts a smile on my face, this little bundle of life is adorable
Me too 🥰
Me tooooo
Yes! Such a sweet face little guy 💞💞
Me tooo!!! ☺️
Me too 🤍
What a cutie pie. It amazes me to this day how human like they are. Looking around figuring everything out. So adorable.
Absolutely a wonderful video. Ever since back in 1970s when I was a kid there was a TV show called BJ and the Bear. It was about a truck driver who had a chimpanzee getting into different adventures every week. After that show aired everybody wanted a chimpanzee. There were a lot of people in America getting chimpanzees as pets and could not take care of them once they grew older.
I was so glad to see the mom accepted her little baby back. That doesn't happen often.
I loved every second if this video. I come back every couple of months to rewatch it. My favourite part is when Thalita was speaking, the baby sensed that his caregiver wasn't paying attention to him and he demanded it by throwing a mini tantrum. So cute!
We're so happy to hear that you're enjoying our videos. We really appreciate your comments.
Yes so bossy❤❤
That's the cutest scene I have EVER SEEN❤❤❤
Such a precious little baby. Fighting to thrive is exhausting, hard work. But, he’s doing it, and getting cuter with every step of the his journey.
A huge “THANKS YOU!“ to all of the hearts for your dedication, passion and love for your work.
Omg , baby Joey is the sweetest little Chimp I've ever seen. I just love looking at those brown eyes. Sweet little guy ♥️
He is just thee sweetest little thing so tiny. And that face…so precious!
Фу фу фу
What an amazing and unvaluable job Thalita ... Your love and care for these precious creatures is really fantastic ... Congratulations ... ♡.
Omg soooo cute!! Thank you for caring and looking out for these beutiful animals!!
Little Jane was looking at his legs like “boy you’ve grown, where you been?”
5:49 I mean come on, he is just absolutely precious and adorable. That little face..just melts my heart.
He's the cutest monkey I've ever seen....would love alot more videos of him
I think I was smiling all through this video. He's adorable and I'm so glad that he got healthy and was able to reunite with his mom.
So pleased you enjoyed the video, Patricia.
😍 Ooooh Little Joey is so adorable! Really nice to see his mum took him back and so glad he made it. Keep up the good work, cause animals deserve it! We humans owe this to them after all the wrong we did!!
She's saying humans in general, jackass. How did I know that the 1 reply to this comment was gonna be a negative one? Why are some people so damn bored in their own little worlds that they have to come on here and turn a nice comment like hers into a negative thing? Get a life...
@@catc6050 Her name says it all!
This little guy is absolutely beautiful ❤️ thank you for saving him, it must have been hard to let him go
Who the hell are you???? You have NO IDEA what or who I support...you need to take a step back and check yourself...thanks, but no thanks for your simple opinion
@Antique Appraisal she can support who she wants. Are you helping human babies who need it? If so congratulations, but stop knocking others on who they support .
I love this video. It makes me so happy. Sometimes baby animals are just like human babies when they get sick. They need a hospital, medicine, t.l.c., and voila! They pull through! I was emotional when mom actually took him back. Just goes to show you how much like us primates truly are!!! We need to do better by ALL of them! Thanks again for your love and dedication to these chimps!
Thanks for watching. So glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my gosh, he is so cute. He looked like a tiny, hairy newborn human! What a precious baby. :)
He's sooo beautiful
A tribute to all your hard work for these apes, chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas. Thank you n blessings to you n these amazing animals!!!
Thank God someone is taken care of is beautiful animals in the right and may God continue to be with you all and his beautiful animals
All I do is smile cry smile cry when I watch this I'm glad that there are kind people out there that take care of wild life. I wish the whole would knew about why u do what u do. That's what I would do if I had money is save every animal if I could. Donate support u guys do it all. Congrats
She is a wonderful human being. If she isn't already, she will make a terrific mommy. That you "Apes Like Us". I look forward to your vids. You are a kind and gentleman and I can tell your love for animals is genuine.
They are so much like human babies.. remarkable 💙💙💙💙
I wish you wouldn’t say things like that. THEY ARE NOT JUST LIKE US.
@@lindabederio4603 No amount of denial will change the fact that they share 98% of their DNA with us, and a common ancestor with us some 6 million years ago. Of course they resemble us. Why wouldn't they?
@@lindabederio4603 if animals have hands like us, and they do give it a little bit of a human features then it’s true that they almost look human, but still animals
@@lindabederio4603 no. WE are like THEM.
I never grow tired of this video, thanks for making it!
It would be hard for me to let go of Joey after I had him for so many days I would just be so bonded to him cuz he's so cute
You guys think about the new feeling you have given this baby. He most likely was always hungry, felt pain with no energy, this new world he is in makes him just felt like crap all the time. His emotions were every one leave him alone. Now he is starting to feel good emotions. Energy is showing up. He is become a new creature. This world is looking better to him now. You should be proud of yourselves. Your talents were give to you by God and your using them. That makes you very blessed. In other words what I am saying to you is THANK YOU FOR CARING ABOUT THIS LITTLE CREATURE. Thank you for the love you have and are showing him. Good job guys, very good job!
He is so adorable he stirs the maternal instinct in me 💕
Same tbh
Thank YOU!!! You do such wonderful work saving beautiful intelligent creatures. ❤️❤️❤️
What a sweet baby! I'm very surprised the mommy still has milk to feed him. A human mother would not be lactating after a month of no breast feeding. Little Joey was able to be fed by his mother after bottle feeding for a month. Amazing!! Bless all involved in baby Joey's care, and thank you for giving him back to his mother. I imagine you missed him.
Thank you for watching and for your kind comments! The reason Joey's mum continued lactating is because she was also feeding his older brother while he was away in human care.
Thank you for filling me in. I think it's just wonderful his mother was still able to feed him.
Little Joey is so cute!❤ I love all the expressions he makes with his face. I’m glad he’s getting the special care he needs to recover. He has done a great job!
Chimps fascinate me. I never get over how human-like they are in terms of intelligence and their grasp of social and group dynamics. Whenever I see a chimp, I see a variation of what we used to be and the possibility that one day they'll be where we are now thanks to the amazing craftsmanship of evolution.
Amazing work you’re doing. Little Joey is doing well and growing
Absolutely love this. I’ve watched it years ago and just stumbled upon it again today. If I was able to do this for a living, I’d be so happy to go work every day ❤️
Beautiful tender care of this little orphan chimp and a happy ending, back with his mother.
🤷🏻♀️ not an “orphan” lol
thank you that you all trying to give litle monkeys a beautyful life that they deserved, you are so special for what you all do 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are so kind
5:18 is just too cute. Melted my heart.
Such a beautiful story brought tears to my eyes . U have done an amazing job vet thalita the world needs more of your kindness in it
Thank you for your kind comments
Amaaaazing job !!!!This vet lady and the whole team out there.Very very cute beeing this little chimp.Hat off to this dedicated ppl.🤗👍👏👏👏
Excellent facility and respect to all
Hope Joey makes it
So sick it's marvellous how he struggles to get better. What a character. Thank guys for doing something beautiful. Saving lives from nature.
You can see and hear the difference - love his little face and so happy to see him back with his mom.
His baby noises are so cute!
Those noises are what I hate about him the most.
Love it when little joey videos pop up in my feed!! Cannot believe its been 5 years! Hope je is doing well!,🤗❤
Omgosh,I almost can't stand how adorable and precious he is
Oh my gosh I’m in love with that baby! So precious 🥰🥰🥰
How...HOW....can you not love these apes, our cousins? I love all animals, but an affinity is strong with these apes like us.
Incredible and amazing that the mum still had milk after the gap between her baby being away !!!
Helen Gay maybe not so amazing...I stopped 3 years ago and still...lol, sorry tmi
Amanda Watanabe really ? Well that proves you learn something every day x
Helen Gay yeah, so weird; it’s not like full on lactation, a little still comes out sometimes (boyfriend laughs about it, he’s a saint lol 😬), but I’m pretty sure it would fully come back if I were to use a pump regularly or something constantly suckling.
Sorry this maybe got too descriptive but I do find this sort of thing fascinating even if it’s happening to me lol
Amanda Watanabe
Yeah, thanks for being open. 👍I didn’t know that could happen either, but now I do! 😁. Isn’t you tube great?
B Mell ikr, in some ways it really is; I’ve been able to learn so much about such a variety of subjects and so conveniently too lol; but it can be addictive and sooo distracting while you’re trying to get work done too 😅
Thank you do much good people for all the beautifull work you re doing 🐾🐒💖.I am very gratefull to you all🙏 Most people don t have a clue and are sometimes so ignorant when it comes down to animal wellfair .
Sweet Joey. And loving caring beautiful lady. God bless you both.
Such a heat warming story. I've been hooked on monkey been watching many throughout day. I hope to watch them all one day and when I'm back on my feet with all my bills and one day get a fridge lol. I plan to support a few conservation. I would really love working with the team and troops but I know it's impossible but donating and sponsoring my own mom and baby would be a super delight. I will be following .Kiss those babies in the meantime. :)
Look at little Joey! He’s so cute! I wish there were more videos of the little guy.
Wow, beautiful story. Thanks Ms Thalita
That baby has such a human face. ❤️
♦God Bless each and everyone of you! When I see a place, such as this, with people, like yourselves, who gives their lives to save the lives of these precious helpless creatures, it warms my heart. Thank you many times over, thank you.!!!
Thank you for your kind comments
Look at that look on that little boys face @ 0:26 in the sweat shirt with the writing on the front as the camera zooms in on him. That is completely adorable. I had to rewind over and over to see that sweet smile on his little face.
Oh little baby looks like a little old man So very helpless & so very loveable.
I wanna hug this little one!
I’m in love with that precious little face 🥰
Ty Jerry for what you do. GB and may he watch over these innocent monkeys 🙏💚💛❤️
Thank you Roberta!
No matter how much the staff did for baby joey they couldnt make up for his mommy and you could tell when she got him back how relaxed he was and nursing right away he knew that was his mommy he didnt forget and neither did she alot of the time these babies die without their mothers no matter how much you try and help they just need their mothers!!
They never need or want humans, see how afraid and uncomfortable he is there are so many mothers being killed in order to steal their children and sell them as pets shame to humanity to allow this atrocity and evil to happen
Love Little Joey to bits!! 💖🌟🙂
Der ist sooooo süß und hübsch ales gute für Dich kleine süße Schatz wünsche dir viel Gesundheit kleine Maus
Thank you for all your love to those beautiful creatures .they are so like us humans ❤
Love it, more stories of their lives
Amazing work and I thank you for all you do
How satisfying it actually is to live for others especially for these creatures ❤️❤️❤️ That's what life is meant to be... ❤️
A beautiful comment. Thank you for watching.
Such dedication! Just heart lifting!

You are so lucky. She's so precious...
So cute he's ticklish!

You beautiful people are doing God's work. Thank you!
Such a Miracle that he survived.😀
The only thing I could say whilst watching this video is "awwwwww look at that wittle itty bitty babyyyy. Him so cuuuuuteeeee"
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
His little face is so adorable 😍 sweet little angel 😇
Thank you for your dedication!❤
Thank you very much for watching and your kind comments!
I never realized how similar human babies and chimp babies were, especially in their facial expressions. I had to laugh when Little Joey had such a determined and serious look when he was pooing....exactly like a human baby would look in the same circumstance! LOL!!
Tammy L v
I have never produced anything looking like that.
maybe your babies, certainly not mine.
Humans are created in the image of God, human beings have souls. What you think is another of satan, anything to take the glory of God.
@@marilynwillett804 I stand by what I said, white people write the history so they lie about the bible and every other story they tell.
Little Joey tugs at my heartstrings BIG TIME❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you ❤😍very nice video
God bless you for your love and dedication to these pure souls.
Thank you so much for your kind comments and thanks for watching our videos!
Curious if Joey's mom's milk dried up in that 35 day period and how they'll get milk to him until it's weaning time. This was extraordinary to behold... Tough job, too - not all cute baby monkey stuff. 🐒💙
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comments. We're glad to be spreading awareness about the serious threats facing apes, rather than just showing cute babies.
The reason Joey's mum continued lactating is because she was also feeding his older brother while Joey was away in human care.
What a precious little baby ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely lovely.
Awesome work, you are all miracle workers ❤❤❤❤
Great job...love you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️
She is so cute and my heart ❤️ goes out for the baby chimp
Hard to believe that sweet little thing could grow to be near 6 ft tall, and be able to bite and tear a person apart.
Indeed! One of many reasons why they belong in the wild and not with humans.
Vet Thalia is how a Mother for the Apes and little Joe ...very good women
Great work everyone including little Joey and his mum
Thank you for watching :)
I have a Love so deep for these animals and elephants. They have real heart and love, feelings and memories that most humans have a hard time with
So cute im glad he bounced back
You are a saint Thalita. He would've died if you had not saved him. Such fascinating creatures.
Awe how cute and adorable.
I think it's really great what Chimfunshi is doing in Namibia. In a country ravaged by aids, where pretty much everyone is in need of healthcare and clean water, it's really awesome that some of these precious resources are dedicated to saving the lives of these beautiful chimps. Just imagine a world in which these cute little baby chimps didn't exist, what would that world look like? For starters, we wouldn't be able to watch these lovingly cute videos. Please help the chimps by donating to Chimfunshi, you'll feel much better after you do!
