- Saving chimpanzee Sonia highlights the incredible veterinarian work of Andrea Pizzaro at Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone. Over a few hours the team worked tirelessly to save little Sonia's life.

It always amazes me how fast wild life can recover from even the most horrific injuries.

Anyone with an ounce of compassion will feel like their heart is being ripped out just listening to her cry from the pain. It's like watching your own child suffering.i hope she will have a good long life.
Rob peters, No. No it's not. It's not remotely like my own child suffering, nor is it like your own child suffering. My child is one of 8 billion as Ty Doggo says but he's the world to me. I am glad that there are clinics like this to care for these animals but my charity dollar will always go to the children of America. You know, the ones on your street, in your town that go to school every day because they have free breakfast and lunch at school. For many, that's all the food they get. Trivia question - Except for chimps, what other animal sounds just like a human child when it cries ? Answer - A human child...listen for that cry.

@katelyn silly squirrel I encourage you to spend that allowance on a trip to India. Not only is it a wonderful place to visit, you'll learn a lot about yourself and your position in the world. I highly recommend Mumbai as it's a place you can't miss when traveling to India. I'd also encourage you to visit Dharavi and take a guided tour from a company and see how the rest of the world lives. If you feel really adventurous, hookup with a volunteer organization and spend a day on the streets helping malnourished children. Reading about it or watching videos on UA-cam doesn't do it justice. To truly understand the depths of human suffering you have to experience it, even if you're just an observer.

What a wonderful story, it's so great to see all these resources being poured into saving the lives of these almost extinct chimps. Humans? Not so much. If only we cared half as much about our own species perhaps the world would be a better place.

Chimps in captivity are terrifying
Wild chimps can be dangerous and aggressive but not as captive ones
But if you can simulate there environment in a large cage mama chimp can hand over their child to their favorite caregiver if they are sick
