    The Skrama is a versatile heavy-duty bush knife - a tool that builds shelters chops firewood and even carves feather sticks! If you're taking just one knife into the bush the Skrama is a viable option. This is naturally no axe, nor a precision tool for extremely meticulous work, but something in between and a solid and dependable companion above all.
    Skrama - as in Scramasax or Seax, a big single-edged knife popular in the early Middle Ages. Much like the Scandinavian Leuku, it doubles up as a tool and defensive implement. A fine name is always nice and the best ones are those with some history behind them - our 21st-century Skrama would surely meet the demands of any Saxon man from "ye good olde days".

    I was so impressed with this that I bought two 240s....
    Glad I got them before Vatusteleka stopped shipping them to the UK.
    They are everything you need in a large knife, and do half the work of a hatchet. They are also a lot lighter than carrying a bushcraft knife AND a hatchet.
    This thing is a legend.
    A word of warning: if the proposed new UK zombie knife revisions go through in the current (idiotic) form, then this knife will eventually be reclassified as a "zombie knife" because it has a blade over eight inches, with a hole in the blade. Now there have been reassurances that the Police will "use discretion" and they have no desire to punish legitimate bushcrafters, but we all know thats a farce. Personally I will be modifying mine either by welding closed the hole, or peening a brass plug into it.

      That's crazy about zombies

    • @vonsprague7913
      @vonsprague7913 9 місяців тому +3

      Makes you wonder why having a hole in the blade suddenly makes them more dangerous doesn't it? As far as discretion goes, I've been stopped by the Police and Scotland has VERY strict knife laws. As a veteran, older man and law abiding citizen I have never had a problem. I've carried a locking pocket knife all my life. Police officers have what used to be called the A Test and that is attitude, get that bit right and I virtually guarantee you'll be fine.

    I´ve had my Skrama for something like 7-8 years now. I love it. I was always against the use of large "Rambo" knives because they are mostly useless (axe/saw and knife is the s*it). Skrama is the one that made me change my mind. I still have a normal knife etc with me if i go out in the woods but that thing is unbeatable when it comes to cutting sprucebranches for a winter floor etc. I also have varustelekas Teräva Jääkäripuukko 140mm, which i think is probaly the best knife per euro you can possibly buy. It´s built like a tank.

    Have had mine for almost two years........ Best bang for the buck on the market. A beast! I never go anywhere without it. But it's carbon; so keep it dry and oiled. This, a Bush Tool, a Silky, a GB small forest axe, and an awl, and a decent sharpening stone; that's all you'll ever need to live like a king in the forest, any time of the year. Cheers!!!

    It was great fun watching you trying to justify to yourself and us that it was a valid tool lol. It's a cracking camp tool, practical in that it is lighter than an axe and hugely versatile. The wife bought me an Essee Junglas for my 50th, it's a great "one tool option" like you i doubt they truly exist but paired with a saw and SAK it's terrific. Good to see you recovering Noah 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    I have the Skrama 200, absolutely superb. I have been thinking of getting the 240, but on Varusteleka’s website they don’t ship bladed tools to Great Britain, clearly because the border between the EU and Northern Ireland is poorly defined, they will still ship knives to your part of the UK.

    *My Terava Skrama 240 is not as hefty nor as substantial as a decent hatchet with a hammer poll. But, within the limitations of my 70 years old bodily strength and the ultimate capabilities of the well-cushioned, long-handled grip coupled with the 240mm long, wide, heavy blade; I'll choose to pack the Skrama in its brown leather scabbard over a heavier hatchet, for 95 times out of 100 situations that I am likely to find myself in when packing into either a hardwood or softwood forest. The one thing that the Skrama 240 can do with relative ease that a hatchet can't do is to clear thick congested brush, vines, and briars as if one were wielding a short machete. The Skrama 240 isn't as handy as a full-size machete, but it's a lot easier to pack around.*

    I've had the Skrama 200 on my wishlist at Varusteleka for a year or so now but can't convince myself to pull the trigger on it. My Jaakaripuukko does all I need from a knife, for everything else I have my tomahawk and saw, but I'm so pleased with everything I've bought from them that I keep thinking about it.

    These are fantastic - they're fully able to do the big stuff, and can also do well with more delicate work. I've had mine for a couple of years, and have hammered it with some serious graft - these things hold up....which makes it super frustrating that I'll never be able to get another one, when the time comes that I need to - it's so crap that they can't ship them to the UK anymore.
