I saw a young black woman, in a DG in a predominantly white town. She seemed a little concerned, almost scared to even move, so i walked up to her, and said "are you new to the neighborhood "?
And she said "yes ma'am i am, we just moved here" i said "well, my name is Jessie, and I'll be glad to show you around! We have a great community center with a walking track, and playground for the kids, all with security, and really nice restaurants, let me give you my number, I'll go anywhere with you and introduce you to everyone! You will love it here"! I just talked on hoping she would feel safe. She looked so relieved, and she said "my name is Tia, and thank you"!
The cashier GLARED at me. So, I walked that entire store with her so she did not feel out of place. We talked, and laughed, and
When we went to walk out, i turned to the cashier and i said
"LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF ".
she looked like i hit her with a book. 😂

Um, if I'm in freaking Oregon and saw a confederate flag in a window next to a house for sale maybe 2 miles from my apartment, then I know the south where it's their actual history has some dark things happening. Oregon is just very white and they want to adopt that stuff with no history of labor and wealth to even be bitter over. The biggest cities in the south I'm sure feel different and that's what most see. Those states are huge, those cities are not comparably. Lot of wooded, rural, closed of towns across the country, not just ugly electoral maps, but real attitudes.

She told me not to stay long there and to stop by the restaurant on my way back out to let her know I was okay. When I entered the little town where our plant was located, I felt like I went back to the 1920s, those racist humans looked at me like I was a monster and my gut told me that I was in danger of being hung... I COULD FEEL IT IN MY SOUL. I was terrified. When I got back home I told my boss that I would NEVER travel there for business ever again and I was pissed off that they put me in danger like this. Theres a highschool in Georgia that had its first integrated prom in 2013.
The school didn't host proms for decades, but the community would have "white" and "black" segregated proms up until just 10 years ago.
That kind of blatant racism lives on in some of the more rural areas of the South. Georgia runs the spectrum when it comes to racism; some areas are great, some have more "casual"/ignorant racism, and that deep seeded aggressive type is unfortunately clinging on in places like that. Honestly, shame on the leaders for sending black missionaries somewhere so hostile and, frankly, dangerous. I'm so sorry you were put in that traumatizing situation ❤
Edit: Im not responding in comments to anyone, I've lived in the south for decades, including georgia. I've personally seen people shout the n word at black people from their car randomly and had plenty of people assume I was on the same wavelength while expressing racist views to me (I'm white). If that's not something you've seen, then alright. Like I said, some areas are worse than others. Only one I'll comment on is someone somehow not seeing any racism during the Civil rights era in the south: lmao

I am so very sorry you experienced this. I am from Georgia and it is shameful that people still treat others this way. My daughter's husband, who is black, came to my family reunion. My relatives live in the Appalachian mountains and are just regular country/mountain folk. Most of them were older, from another generation. But my family welcomed my son in law with open arms, treated him just like one of the family, like he is. They truly loved him. I dont know if it is because my family is cherokee indian and know what it like to be treated badly. Or if its just because of their good character or both. I realize not everyone in this state, or even in any other state for that matter, is not this way. I treat people how they deserve to be treated, no matter what color.
