I got a fabricator buddy of mine that has done pipe fitting. He will notch one pipe/tube by hand then make a template like this by tracing the notch into cardboard for notching the rest as well. Works great. Thanks for the freebie!
In my past as a steam fitter, I had to mark and cut large pip, up to 8”, and I bought a Curv-o-Mark Wrap-a-Round. I think it was $20 Canadian, and it’s the same idea, but it has degree markings, various other handy things. Same idea as this, just a bit more durable
Hey Kyle. A homemade freebie tool is a good tool.👊 Saw your IG photos... those joints look great!😍 BTW, I won't fuss about what day it is, because this week, I'm taking Monday AND Friday off. I'll be all hosed up and won't know what day it is for the other 3 days.😮 Gotta burn those vacation days, 'cause sellin' 'em back goes against my moral fiber. Have a great day, whatever it is.👍
Great idea! But now you should also mention not using a black marker on black pipe! Trust me I know what I'm talking about. Lol Thanks again for the videos
You can buy them. That is the correct name. If you work on large diameter pipe etc you will need to buy one. They also come with measurements on them in case you need to mark for notches etc.
The term we use for this kind of free is, "Free as in freedom, not free beer" - You're granting the liberty and knowledge required to use the idea, but you aren't handing out glasses of cold beer. I would like to see if perhaps a few youtube channels would like to get together and challenge each other. It's something a lot of us would like to see, I'm sure. There was a story floating around the internet, (www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2168061/French-electrician-stranded-Moroccan-desert-rebuilt-wrecked-car-motorbike-drove-civilisation.html) and although many of us scream "BULLSHIT!" the concept is very very good and the rules are already in place. The question is not if it was done under the circumstances, but CAN it be done. I am hoping channels will take on the challenge. 1) The channels can pick their car. 2) You must all choose what tools a "Electrician" would have to build such a vehicle (Hack Saw is a freebee, the claim was he had a Hack Saw) in the middle of the desert. 3) The time to build is 12 days. 4) The ability to fabricate such things like a spot welder ONLY using parts from said car is accepted. 5) Location must be decided on. That's right, away from civilization. The story is bullshit. Many know that. HOWEVER, the challenge is real. Can it be done, will it work, and most of all, could your skills save your life.
It's up to you guys to make it a thing. Perhaps even people like Roadkill could get involved, who knows. I don't know enough fabricators or their channels. Much of what I subbed to is "go cart fabrication", and I just don't think that is something they are qualified for. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the fabricators would know. I hit up "Itsbenmodified and The Real Life Guys, but I'm just the conceptionist. Not the Organizer. I come up with great ideas. I would like to see a huge challenge take place. Not necessarily a competition, but to push themselves against the "rules" already in place. I'm not a fabricator, but I've always liked it when people find their inner Macgyver. Make it work.
James Stewart ((with Richard Attenborough, Peter Finch, Hardy Krüger and Ernest Borgnine) movie from 1965 - rebuild an airplane in the Sahara Desert. And the man who "designed" the rebuilt plane turned out to be a model airplane designer, as they were completing the "new aircraft". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flight_of_the_Phoenix_(1965_film)
