That Hack Squat Machine really does look like it was inspired by the Barbell Hack Squat. Which in my mind is probably an underrated exercise, and should be staple in any Barbell only programs
The barbell hack squat was one of Steve Reeves' favourite exercises for developing the thighs. This machine is definitely inspired by this exercise as the idea is to load the thighs and not the axial spine at the shoulders. In this way you get more intense training with less weight
Aaaaaaawesome, love it. I can really appreciate your love of old school bodybuilding. I love going through old material and pictures. I still use it for motivation. I wish modern gyms had some of those unique benches.ewpcially the Scott benches.
Scott benches are hard enough to find. I had to custom make Preacher bench, and I designed it based on the original Standing Preacher Curl bench from Vince's Gym. It is my pride and joy. Took years to get the design correct.

I remembered he had a catalog. That preacher bench and its rounded side are so much better than the typical gym preacher. You had these custom built? You based it off the original designs? Would someone be able to order these from you, or could you ?
Well done. Reminds me of the West Coast gyms we would hit when I was a young Marine. No nonsense stuff and atmosphere. When I was a kid, the local YMCA had a weight room with really old school equipment dating back to the late 1890's, and early 1900's.

holy crap man! i would pay good money to work out in your gym damn! i started training in the 80's as a teenager and modern gyms suck compared to your gym, VERY Impressed, AND you have motivated me to improve my home gym ( i only have a simple bench, 25lb barbell, two 30 lbl dumbells, and EZ curl bar, and two 25lb plates , and several 10lb and 5 and 2 1/2 pound plates )

In all honesty, some of Vince's equipment works better. I am learning by applying, and have felt areas of the muscle I could never hit before. The man was a genius

Im 64 5'10 173 and still pumping iron. I lift on my concrete patio in Central Florida year around as the sun comes up. Its great.... NO RULESNOFOOLS .... What a nice setup.
Mate, this is a celebration of the home gym. People think you need chrome shiny equipment, but no. You just need a limited set of equipment and some creativity to create a gym that can develop your physical culture. This is what this gym is all about.
Carlos this is a fantastic gym. Reminds me of the first gym I ever trained in where the owner built all his own equipment. You do great work preserving the old school ways.
Thanks. My grandfather was a carpenter, and showed me everything I need to know to build gym equipment or martial arts equipment. I have done so for the last 2 decades and this is the end result. I love it!

Training is more like a muscle lab now. I am finally understanding why Vince recommended certain exercises, the feeling I get in my arms, legs, chest, lats, delts is nothing I have ever felt before.
Your solidily built gym matches the build of your house....Old school and built to last; unfornately for me my modern Florida house would collapse with that much iron! Love the videos! They're my inspiration.
Thanks mate. Old school is built to last because it is made with passion, it takes time, patience, not rushed like nowadays. It's taken me years to finally finish this product, through sickness and health.

All of those pulldown handles are available at my gym because I have a gym owner who is really passionate about having the best stuff. Very odd to see this specified equipment in a home gym though.
This is incredible. I feel like I'm in the late 70s and early 80s just by watching this.
Can you imagine some of the arms that have layed upon that preacher curl . Lots of great bodybuilders and maybe even actors such as Clint Eastwood and Robert Blake.
I know, but mine is NOT the original. I have custom built it to be as close as possible to the original. The original is owned by Daryl Conant.

The gym I go to still has one of those incline benches. They still have the rack and it has two different benches one for doing sit-ups and the other like yours. They still have Nautilus equipment with the cams and chains too. It's nice it has equipment back from the 60s 70s 80s 90s to current Day stuff too like Assault.
