My honourable mention is So Bad by Sir Paul McCartney because that song, along with all the other tracks from his Pipes Of Peace album, were never performed live onstage. I don't know if Paul is keen on ever playing it live, but in my opinion, it would have been a great live number.
Deftones - back to school, they haven’t performed it live for years, mainly because it was added onto ‘White Pony’ at the last minute by the studio when they had already finished the album and the band regretted doing it ever since
I was really hoping that Going to Georgia by The Mountain Goats would be on here. John Darnielle hates playing it and there's actually a video where a fan gives him $60 to play it live because it's such a fan favorite.

Flight of Icarus by Iron Maiden. Steve Harris hated the tempo of the song and how it ended up on the record, that he refused to play it for over 30 years, until a couple years ago on their Legacy of the Beast tour
I remember for a long time Modest Mouse wouldn’t play a lot of their older songs, (“Edit the Sad Parts” was one a lot of fans wanted to hear)... because they forgot how to play them... at least that was their excuse at the time. Considering I later read about frontman Issac Brock’s struggles with heroin addiction over the years, I think he really did forget how to play those songs!
Ohh Edit The Sad Parts is my favorite! I know they did play it live before because there's a live version of it on a compilation of theirs. It didn't really sound right tho so it makes sense that they forgot how to play it.
I was never a big ac-dc guy. I’m more Bob Dylan. My late wife, however, worshipped them. When she was buried, I put a pack of menthol cigarettes and Johnson’s cap in her casket. The hat was caught by a family friend during a concert. The cigarettes because she was First Nation, and when she occasionally smoked, it had to be menthol.
If AC/DC did a farewell tour For their last show (would hast to be in Australia) for them to play "It's A Long Way To The Top" with the crowd singing along to the song.
If there's any Kamelot fans here, they've pretty much stopped playing anything from Epica and before that album. It's rather annoying because while they put on a great show every time, it would be nice to experience some of their older songs live rather than hearing the same songs over and over.
they said at the start of the video that over exposure kills a song, i wish American radio would realize that so they would quit playing the same crap over and over again. and if you listen to older music you know what i mean.
A bit strange to say that Love Rollercoaster would be some fans introduction to RHCP, as you could say that of any song by a band. I am sure Under the bridge or Give it away were the two songs most likely to have introduced fans back in the day.
@Christopher Bingham I have never even heard their version of Rollercoaster until now, so once again, not sure why this one would have been a major introductory song for many. I would always say either the two I mentioned would be natural introductions or By the way for later fans.
Yeah, I'd argue that "My Friends" batted cleanup for any alt-rock fans that somehow managed to miss "Give it Away" and "Under the Bridge." If your only exposure to music is through movies and movie soundtracks, I remember the one from Coneheads ("Soul to Squeeze") getting played like every ten minutes on MTV, more so than "Love Rollercoaster." Then "Scar Tissue." Obviously it's true that any song can be *somebody's* introduction to a band...but "Love Rollercoaster" wasn't really that song for many RHCP listeners, I think. Maybe it's a British thing?
Actually, I looked at the wiki page for RHCP's singles. It's a British thing for sure. "Love Rollercoaster" charted higher in the UK than any of their singles up to that point, apparently. Higher than "Under the Bridge," "My Friends," "Aeroplane," etc. So in the UK, it probably WAS the introduction to the band for a lot of listeners. Weird. Probably same way "American Girl" wasn't, IIRC, actually a hit for Tom Petty in the US until years later, on a rerelease...it was a UK hit.
I was lucky enough to hear Misery Business live in 2008. I love all classic Paramore and am sad to hear they will no longer play it but understand that there comes a time when songs have to left off set lists in favour for something newer
The thing with Alexander The Great is that most of the band just doesn't like the Somewhere In Time album (they've only played Wasted Years and Heaven Can Wait off of the album since 1987). And Maiden have never played a song live that wasn't played on the tour for the album (Deja Vu and Alexander The Great were not played at all, The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner was only ever played once). The issue I have the Beastie Boys' take on Fight For Your Right is that NOTHING on Licence To Ill would hint at it being ironic, unlike Dead Kennedys songs like Police Truck.
You missed one BIG example... Hello by Evanescence... They have never played live. The song is about an Amy's lost sister... too personal song, but very wonderfull
I've seen TOOL several times and they have only done Sober once and that was at the first show I was at after that I never heard them do it live again.
I'm not a big Coldplay fan, but I do really like the song "Talk"; however, they've rarely played it live since it's release since their bassist has made it clear he doesn't like it (somewhat understandable given that there's very little bass on the song)
While I didn't discover her music until 7 years after her greatest commercial success to know this for certain (and I was not of an age where I could have gone to see her in concert on my own to verify), it would appear, based on my inability to find something on UA-cam or bootlegs or official releases, that Lita Ford has never performed the title track from the album "Stiletto" live. Currently it would actually seem to be the case with most of said album, as I have seen her 3 times in the last 5 years, and she played "Hungry" at 2 shows, "Lisa" at 2 shows, and "Only Women Bleed" at one. Granted, it's not quite the lack of love that her "Black" album seems to get, as I've not heard anything from that album performed live; but I really like "Stiletto" as a song, disturbing lyrics notwithstanding, and would love to hear it get the live treatment sometime.
I don't always buy the "we wrote the song ironically...." thing from bands...especially REM. Yeah, but you recorded it LIKE a single and made a music video...and promoted it and now it doesn't suit your band image so you disown it....
@Rob Melrose This is exactly what I meant. Who knows how many more fans that REM got because of this song. That they wouldn't have had without it. That's biting the hand that feeds. How ungrateful.

Since Blackie went born again, there are quite a few songs he won't play anymore. And even those he does play, sometimes have lines changed (Chainsaw Charlie for instance).
I saw Blues Traveler do a free show in Vermont back in the early 2000's. He asked what we wanted to hear and when someone said "Pretty Angry" he flat out said, no. (I think it's just too painful)

Hello out there to the all R'n'R fans. I am Gus from Greece and I am a dedicated Iron Maiden fan since 1988. I was in Malacasa for the aformentioned IM show 2 years ago and it was an overwhelming expirience when all of us, 36K spectators, during a brief break from the live show, started chanting the chorous of Alexander the Great forcing mr. Dickinson to sing it WITH us. Now beyond, that and as a musician myself, i understand that any band with the status, experience and of course pay grade of IM, or for that matter, any of the bands listed in this video, don't have any excuse not to play any of the songs in their back catalogue. I'm required to study 2 to 3 hours per day so as to perform any song that my band and I have to play live on stage, and i've been at it for 2 years now (the new band tha is) and you mean to tell me that such Juggernauts of the music industry can't get their timing right or are to lazy to play their songs? I'm very sorry but i find these excuses very hard to believe. When you get up on the stage you don't play for yourself anymore but for the paying "customer" whatever the gig may be. Whenever the IM play for example the Clansman song (HELLO to my Scotish brothers) in Scotland, don't you all the fans there get more in love with our favorite band since they're singing about your ancestors? And please don't start me with the geopolitical Mambo Jambo 'cause heavy metal, in it's majority, is way beyond that crap. And isn't the rime of the anchient mariner a 15 minute epic with a couple of odd time signatures that they play in every gig? I can go on and on but i think i've made my point there. Thank you for your time and please, I beg of any musician out there to try to change my mind. UP THE IRONS.
"These are the songs you'd be lucky to ever hear live again.. mentions R.E.M.. thx for reminding me they broke up lol.. ofc we'll never hear Shiny Happy People, or in fact R.E.M. live ever again smh
No Leaf Clover by Metallica. Originally performed live, they wouldn't play it again saying that they would do it if they had the symphony on tape but it never sounded right. Same thing with Dyer's Eve, only played twice live.
I'm an older music fan. Most of the artists I like are over 40 years in business. They still always play there biggest hits even when they hate the songs and have played them countless times. It's called giving the audience what they want! It's the reason they pay to see you in concert. It's why they're still in business. Thus, it's no surprise that just about all of these newer groups careers have stalled, why fans don't turn out for them anymore. (not all of course, but most groups I mean to say). Hell....even Queen did Bohemian Rhapsody when it was technologically impossible to do the song live. They knew the audience wanted to hear it. This is why newer bands suck. They don't appreciate there fans enough to give them what they want.....the hits.
I saw Paramore live in the front row during the after laughter tour, and on the last parahoy cruise. Both times Haley before the song said there’s one line in the song she won’t be singing and explained why. When the line came up she put her hand over her mouth and shook her head. She wouldn’t even sing the line. I had a feeling at the time that meant the end for that song was near. It’s too bad as that’s the one song that had a traditional fan interaction when it was done live. Hopefully they pick a new one to allow a fan on stage to sing with them.

i can remember for the longest time Rush played closer to the heart so much during the 80s that when they were asked to play it again during the 90s they straight up wanted nothing to do with it, it wouldnt be played live again until 2003 in the rio show.
My honourable mention is So Bad by Sir Paul McCartney because that song, along with all the other tracks from his Pipes Of Peace album, were never performed live onstage. I don't know if Paul is keen on ever playing it live, but in my opinion, it would have been a great live number.
Man, it's a shame that Hetfield went back to that "Sweet Amber" after all this time. Hope this time he can make it stick.
He is looking healthy these days.
That’s the thing about alcoholism. Your best chance of getting it under control is a complete change in lifestyle and even then most can’t beat it.
@@metalavenger23 i never drink alcohol unless i less i have a cold, then i Will have a jagermeister or something.
9:20 "...who were totally oblicious to the fact that it was a total goof on them."
See also Saturday Night Live, "Da Bearss", 1986.
Ahem......
MusicCulture!
Love Y'all!
Deftones - back to school, they haven’t performed it live for years, mainly because it was added onto ‘White Pony’ at the last minute by the studio when they had already finished the album and the band regretted doing it ever since
Daddy by KoRn. They played it once and won't ever play it again. Listen to it on the CD itself to see why.
I was really hoping that Going to Georgia by The Mountain Goats would be on here. John Darnielle hates playing it and there's actually a video where a fan gives him $60 to play it live because it's such a fan favorite.
Remaking Christmas songs are an over kill
I've never heard another human say "Blink One Eight Two", as opposed to "Blink OneEightyTwo". Is that "The Way of Things" in Britain?
Steven Edwards 😂😂😂
I also never heard people say Blink one-eighty-two, till this video
Most people in America call the band Blink One eighty two most radio personalities here refer to them as that as well.
Technically, it should be one hundred eighty two, so you're both wrong.
Who says eighty-two?
Its one eight two
I'd love it if acdc plays their last show, they play it but let the fans sing
I saw Paramore in 2018. And I’m sooooo glad I got to see Misery Business before it was retired!!
UA-cam, how dare you go to commercial every time I turn around especially when I was getting interested in the rem bit. That's it you're grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded for 600,000 years. Go to your room right now and never come out
Interesting... The AC/DC song chosen is It’s A Long Way To The Top, yet it’s the High Voltage clip shown... Determined to dodge copyright? Lol.
Flight of Icarus by Iron Maiden. Steve Harris hated the tempo of the song and how it ended up on the record, that he refused to play it for over 30 years, until a couple years ago on their Legacy of the Beast tour
Played Icarus live the following year on the World Slavery Tour.
Maideniac They stopped playing it around 1986 and didn’t perform it again until 2017-2018
Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson refused to play their song Teacher despite it being a radio hit.
Daddy-Korn . If you know the song you’ll understand why it should have been on this list
Lucero - Darby's Song its been played live 1 time in 15 years, Ben Nichols says its just too painful for him to sing.
If AC/DC did a farewell tour
For their last show (would hast to be in Australia)
for them to play "It's A Long Way To The Top" with the crowd singing along to the song.
If there's any Kamelot fans here, they've pretty much stopped playing anything from Epica and before that album. It's rather annoying because while they put on a great show every time, it would be nice to experience some of their older songs live rather than hearing the same songs over and over.
Me fight for your right to party by the Beastie boys is an anthem to have fun.
And let go with the restraints.
I also remember seeing that Bjork doesn't ever play It's Oh So Quiet as well
they said at the start of the video that over exposure kills a song, i wish American radio would realize that so they would quit playing the same crap over and over again. and if you listen to older music you know what i mean.
Jackie Blue , by the Ozark Mountain Daredevil’s said they hated that song .
Y'all have no idea how happy I was to have caught that Paramore tour after finding out they were retiring Misery Business
A bit strange to say that Love Rollercoaster would be some fans introduction to RHCP, as you could say that of any song by a band. I am sure Under the bridge or Give it away were the two songs most likely to have introduced fans back in the day.
@Christopher Bingham Yeah, I get by the way as it was a later song that got a lot more airplay than most of their songs.
@Christopher Bingham I have never even heard their version of Rollercoaster until now, so once again, not sure why this one would have been a major introductory song for many. I would always say either the two I mentioned would be natural introductions or By the way for later fans.
@Christopher Bingham yep, I can agree that too
Yeah, I'd argue that "My Friends" batted cleanup for any alt-rock fans that somehow managed to miss "Give it Away" and "Under the Bridge." If your only exposure to music is through movies and movie soundtracks, I remember the one from Coneheads ("Soul to Squeeze") getting played like every ten minutes on MTV, more so than "Love Rollercoaster." Then "Scar Tissue." Obviously it's true that any song can be *somebody's* introduction to a band...but "Love Rollercoaster" wasn't really that song for many RHCP listeners, I think.
I’m glad I actually got to see #1 live myself before they did that lol
Toto refuse to play their breakout hit "99" live. I'm surprised it wasn't covered here.
I'm pretty certain that the Beastie Boys played fight for your right when I saw them in around 2005ish.
She forgot to mention st anger's snare sound
You missed one BIG example... Hello by Evanescence... They have never played live. The song is about an Amy's lost sister... too personal song, but very wonderfull
I've seen TOOL several times and they have only done Sober once and that was at the first show I was at after that I never heard them do it live again.
I saw TOOL back in 2012 and they played Ticks & Leeches a song they never play. I was pumped.
I'm not a big Coldplay fan, but I do really like the song "Talk"; however, they've rarely played it live since it's release since their bassist has made it clear he doesn't like it (somewhat understandable given that there's very little bass on the song)
I believe STP dies not play Sour Girl anymore because Jeff believes it is Scott's personal song
Exactly. It is also an insult to fans of the band that like the song, or became fans of the band because of the song. It's spitting on the audience.
@Rob Melrose This is exactly what I meant. Who knows how many more fans that REM got because of this song. That they wouldn't have had without it. That's biting the hand that feeds. How ungrateful.
Never should record a song you don't like and even worse make it a single and promote it.
I can't stand Stipe. He's one of those pretentious rock stars like Sting or Bono who thinks he's better then everyone.
Korn's- Daddy was played live at HellFest 2015
It’s wrong that Goddess Ash talks about songs that bore people, when Goddess Ash can never ever ever EVER bore anyone! I can listen to this Goddess all day long
Wasp- animal... Metallica-- fixxxer. Acdc- anything from mid 80s, Megadeth - the conjuring.
Since Blackie went born again, there are quite a few songs he won't play anymore. And even those he does play, sometimes have lines changed (Chainsaw Charlie for instance).
"Hello" and "Like You" by Evanescence?
I saw Blues Traveler do a free show in Vermont back in the early 2000's. He asked what we wanted to hear and when someone said "Pretty Angry" he flat out said, no.
(I think it's just too painful)
@@entransify oh have they? I've only seen them twice, Vermont and New Hampshire. I would gave lived to hear them sing that one live; it's so powerful.
It's odd that David Bowie never performed The Laughing Gnome live. ;-)
I got dragged to a free Green Day show many years ago, and a couple of folks wanted them to sing That Time of Your Life song....they just laughed at them.
Unable to hear hotel california. Heard it just to mutch switches channels everytime it comes on.
Green Day - Wake me up when September ends
Evanescence- My Immortal
Evanescence- Hello
Paramore - Misery Business
Panic! - Northern Downpour
Counting Crows used to refuse to play "Mr. Jones." That changed back in 2019.
I found that odd given it is the song everyone knows
St. Anger is Metallica's 8th album, not their 6th.
@Rob Melrose Two numbers off count. So I guess you either can't read or add.
Not YOU... BUT the video lol
She doesn't count the Load albums.
Arctic Monkeys stopped playing When the sun goes down live too which is upsetting as it's my favourite of theirs and one of 2 of their uk number 1s.
They forgot "diluted" by slipknot. They have never played it live and refuse to play it because corey taylor is too emotionally attached to it
How come?
Corey didn't explain why except for saying he was too emotionally attached to it
That one is about his absent father.
Glad someone else says Blink One Eight Two 😂
Rem song shiny . Makes me so happy!!!!
Shame about Kaleidoscope. That's my favorite song off Neighborhoods.
Big omission is Depeche Mode's People Are People. Simply because Martin Gore says he hates it.
In the 46 years since it was released on the "Caribou" album, Elton John has never performed "Solar Prestige a Gammon" live.
B-Boy 2001 by Crazy Town. Went to see them a few years ago & Shifty Shellshock doesn't actually remember the lyrics to it anymore
Yeah I can’t imagine Bryan playing bagpipes after Scott.
Bon didn’t even play it anymore after his bagpipes got destroyed during a show
