I think the fact that it's not an outfit that was in the movie isn't an issue. Look at Ariel's teal dress. It wasn't in the movie but it's in the parks and on all her merchandise now, so no one really questions it anymore! I had the same initial reaction to the redesign, especially the wig, but I love the sleeves and the fact she has a skirt like overlay that twirls and how much she sparkles. I just wish the neckline looked more like her purple dress in the movie, but that's a small thing. My biggest hope is that with this redesign, we'll see her in more parades and in more prominent roles in shows like Fantasmic!
Also, wouldn't more coverage give the princess a little more freedom in interacting with the kids? She can be less self conscious about her stomach rolls (no matter how skinny she is, the human body rolls when you move!) or about any sort of costume malfunction, or was that never an issue?
My immediate thought was these girls are going to die of heat stroke in the summer. It's so hot in central Florida and that type of sheer material is so hot.
Janice Kornnut granted she is in a building most of the time for meet and greets, and who knows, maybe the material is more breathable than it looks. Yes it gets hot but maybe not as scorching as it appears?
2:54 Wow! That Princess Jasmine was the same exact one I saw when I went to Disney World in September last year (2021). She’s been doing Princess Jasmine for 5 years. That’s a pretty long time for a face character. I heard they usually do 1-2 years.
I applaud you for your spirit of „innovation“ like Disney has itself. You’re so open-minded and have an open heart! Love you! ♥️ also I Love how Ariana snuggles up to Jasmine in this... it‘s been one of my favorite Disney photos EVER. Just pure magic right there.
The video with your kids meeting Jasmine and Aladdin is so cute! I do agree that the more modest Jasmine costume is better for the performers, and I like that Jasmine and Aladdin's costumes seem to be more culturally accurate too.
I'm rewatching this video because I love the video from your meet and greet. You can really see the sparkles. When I first saw the costume I didn't like it, but when I finally saw it in person, I fell in love with it. I am OBSESSED.
I just feel like such a drastic change in the outfit goes against one of Disney's principles, which is character integrity. To me, having a different outfit than the one in the movie just doesn't seem logical.
Correct. I mean, the movie's called The Little Mermaid, so having her as a human is kind of strange, at least to me. I feel like all the characters should wear their main outfits.
For Ariel I think it should be the pink dress at least. She doesn't even wear the teal one in the movie, the teal one came along with a new design (I'm not sure from how many years ago but fairly recently) and it's what they use as the outfit on toys and thus the Disney parks characters.
Right? When i was younger I loved jasmine and I always adored her outfit. Honestly, she's a teen. a teen who once ran away and met a boy out in the city. Like, c'mon. Shes rebellious. And there's definitely differences between her and the harem girls we see in "one jump ahead" mainly color differences, plunging necklines and waist bands. Jasmine has always been seen one way and to change her up to me feels like a political statement and isnt true to what i know in the movie. and IMO I always liked that pink gown ariel wore, as well as the white one for her wedding and I would LOVE to see those in the parks.
i love your videos! We are going to Disney for the second time. The first time was over 6 years ago. My little girl was about to turn 3, so she remembers nothing of it. We came across your videos while looking for Disney World trips. My daughter was not really that excited about meeting Princess, until she watched your videos. She is so excite to meet them now. Now she knows she can talk to them and not just walk you take a pic and walk off. She is super excited. Thank you so much for the videos and sharing your experiences as a princes, and also as a fan.
Speaking from a cosplayer point of view, I always try to make my costumes as close as possible to the original material, even if it looks non-realistic. So, I don't really like this costume change... They made it way too modest. Probably I would have liked it better with more cleavage... I don't know... The previous one looked more accurate to me. Anyway, I'm having my audition in a couple of weeks here in Rome. Wish me luck! >
I really am not trying to be disrespectful to Disney, their choices, or Princess Jasmine herself, but I just HATE her new costume. And who am I to say this? But I'm just trying to be as honest as I can. I love Princess Jasmine so so much, and like you Jennifer, she means a lot to me for very personal reasons. This costume change just has me feeling betrayed by the end of the day.
I know, I know, I know. Hopefully I'll get the footage of Rachel and I weighing in and our initial gut reactions and you can't seethe with us. lol. I'm adjusting.
I'm with you on it, I've grown to accept and appreciate the new outfit. Also I enjoyed your vlogs with Rachel! It's good to see both of you in the same videos again!
I met you on various occasions when I was younger, and I am just now knowing this. I lived in Florida (the Debary area to be exact) when I was younger and would go to Disney almost every week, sometimes more than once a week. It's crazy to be watching your videos now as I prepare to apply to the DCP program. Thanks for making my time at Disney so magical!
I'm about to turn 29 and I went to Disney World for the first time earlier this year. I'm so glad I got a picture with Jasmine in her old outfit as she was always my favorite princess and it was a nostalgic moment. That being said, I do like the new outfit, I just know I would have been super disappointed had I never got the chance to see the more screen accurate version.
Finally had some time to watch this! I agree. Although I never worked in the parks, when I was with the local princess company it was rough. My second big event had all the princesses and a few princes plus Santa in the winter. The first part was Elsa's coronation and my boss had us re create that popular UA-cam video of Disney World's Merida coronation. Jasmine's entrance was so "sexy" compared to the other princesses and I hated doing it. We did an outdoor meet and greet that evening and not only was I so cold, but I saw the dads looking at me weird. Not the same experience being a park princess- but I get it. I would have liked the new outfit better I think.
I wish it photographed better, but the outfit will never take from the awesome experience of meeting Jasmine. Remember that it's just an outfit, and if Disney wants to change it back they can do so easily, it's not necessarily forever!
Once again, Jennifer, thank you for sharing your persepective on Princess Jasmine's new outfit. Kudos to you for seeking the beauty in her outfit.~ ❤️I adapted to her new outfit pretty quickly, despite its conservative changes .... And for me, I could still tell she was Princess Jasmine. When I first saw Ariel in her teal gown in Cali's Disneyland years ago, I was quite surprised but was still thrilled to have my photos taken with her as she still looked like Ariel. Now, I wish I could see Princess Jasmine's outfit dazzle in person!
I feel like recent castings for Aladdin and Jasmine have been poor choices. The Aladdins are often too skinny and would fit Flynn Rider better and then they often cast both as Asian but they are middle eastern. I think the girls seem really good and would be better suited in different roles, but they don't look like Jasmine and Aladdin. I'm Iraninan so I am biased and extra picky about the castings for Jasmine and Aladdin but I also think the Elsa castings have been odd choices as they don't resemble her at all.
Jennifer Oakes you are honestly the best casting I have seen. I thought you were middle eastern until you said you were Hispanic in one of the confessions videos. I'd love to audition for Jasmine but I feel like since I don't look like the other jasmines (even though I look more like the cartoon) I would be passed up. Do you know which is not important? The cast continuity or the character accuracy?
We actually saw Jasmine & Aladdin that same day too! So funny! And you're so right.. the dress is stunning in person and so sparkly.. it is definitely a change that will end up working out for the best.
Jasmine's revision is the only one that I'm on the fence about. When all the other princesses got their new dresses, I loved every one of them (Aurora's revision being my most favorite). I guess I'll have to wait and see Jasmine's new dress for myself at Disneyland for me to make my own judgement.
It's amazing how every time i watch one of your videos I think "princess jasmine in real life would look like this today" haha 💙 love your videos and love for Disney!!
For me seeing pictures for the first time really upset me because Jasmine is my favorite princess. The changes were just so big. My biggest problem is she doesn't look like the Jasmine I grew up watching and loving. But now seeing more and more pictures and videos, I can agree that it is pretty and it's slowly growing on me. I can't wait to take another Disney trip so I can see it in person!! :) Love your videos by the way!! haha -Elizabeth
i was thinking another reason for the wig being changed to be less voluminous because i think i recall you stating once before(i could be wrong) the wig was heavy and could possibly strain the actress' neck. i think for the bangs, the wigs are front lace wigs, i believe, and i saw a picture of pocha and you could see the lace on her forehead so maybe they added bangs to hide the lace from the wig? im not 100% sure
Post what makes you happy hun. I enjoyed your vlogs, Rachel looks fabulous and her baby shower was lovely :) When I first seen Jasmine's new outfit I was like 'ohh noooooo what have they done!!!!!'. I also felt kind of angry at people who complained about it not being modest enough (as that is apparently why it has been changed - due to complaining parents). I haven't seen it in person, so I am only going from photos. To me it reminds me of the type of outfit a princess's wears in colder weather, which sometimes don't resemble the movie outfit. In fact I have a picture from meeting Aladdin and Jasmine in Disneyland Paris in November a few years ago and Jasmine has a coat over her outfit and it is even less like her costume in the film - but of course when it's freezing they can't let poor girls stand out in a crop top and it didn't bother me at all at the time. I am still disappointed in the outfit. I think it is a beautiful outfit in general but perhaps when going for a modest look, they went a bit OTT. I think they could have covered her stomach and made her a nice top without the long sleeves - even thought they are sheer material. I think they could have left her arms bare or with a short sleeve of some sort. I also don't think the skirt over the trousers (pants) was nesscary and it's not film accurate either. I never noticed the bangs until you said it but I definitely don' like them at all and prefer the original wig. I don't really disagree with the outfit being made more modest or perhaps not as revealing ,as it may actually make some of the girls portraying her feel more comfortable , which is definitely a good thing but I think they went a little too far in the other direction. Apart from Jasmine, I am also annoyed they have changed Pocahontas's necklace completely!! The blue necklace was her mothers, given to her by her father which we see in the movie! It gets broken when Kocoum dies and then Meeko puts it back together. It's an iconic part of the movie and yet they have given her some meaningless different necklace :(
Jennifer Oakes I also want to thank you, my friend put the idea of becoming a princess in my head so I wanted to find out everything I could. Your videos are really helpful and inspiring!
Jennifer, I think you are right on about it being political. I live in Jerusalem, and besides the shear fabric and puffy part at the end of her sleeves, the lines are very much what the Muslim women wear here - she's just missing a hijab (and they don't wear "harem pants", obviously!). Even the color and shimmery material - She's definitely more animated than real life, but she looks like she's headed to a wedding. They probably could have found a solution that is a little more true to character integrity, while still bringing her neckline up more, with some sort of sleeve, and covering her stomach - and keeping that trademark necklace. In my opinion, even with the "allah" reference in the film, her character really doesn't embody that of the religion of Islam as much as a general Persian or Arabic culture (where there are Christians, Druse, Bedouins, Yadzikis...), and Disney could argue that for the sake of character integrity. As long as I've been an adult and aware, I have been concerned for you ladies walking around the parks a little exposed, and as the mother of daughters, I do appreciate the Princesses being a little more modest... I just think they went a little far on this one. She's still beautiful, she just seemed to loose something of her freedom. Maybe after some feedback they'll find a happier medium. Anyhow, I love your videos!
I like the UA-cam poll you put up during the video, I've never seen that before! I think her new outfit is pretty nice. It caters well to the performers, like what you said about it being creepy when you'd have to take pictures with some men, and is closer to how Jasmine would dress if she were a real person. But it's so hard to get used to, being so drastically different than anything she's ever worn. I think a happy medium would be using some of the outfit designs that Jasmine wears in the Broadway musical. Her signature blue outfit on Broadway is pretty similar, I think she might have two different versions of it actually I can't remember, but the top bodice is just a bit longer, so the gap between the top and the pants is a little bit smaller than in the parks. Also she has several gorgeous costumes in the musical that are right in between modest and revealing, she gets to wear some really beautiful looks in the show (also the show is just really really good, I'd highly recommend it if you're ever in NYC!).
If ONLY Disney would've found a happy medium instead of something sooo drastic, I think the backlash wouldn't have been so bad, but yeah... I keep thinking about the show on Broadway and wish I could go see it! Hopefully one day I will. xo
honestly if the costume draws away attention from the kids.. because the old weirdos want to take a pic with Jasmine than its for the best! I know when I went to Disneyland all i seen was a bunch of guys taking pictures with princess Jasmine and the kids sitting around waiting for a turn..
+Angel Bethany I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved adult guests too, the kids at heart, but with Jasmine's outfit you know, of course there were issues.
I've been waiting for you to comment on this shake up. Thanks for sharing your video, her costume looks much more beautiful in the video, the pictures made it look like a cheap party store Halloween costume.
I feel bad because even my video doesn't do it justice.. it's not her original outfit that we know and love, no.. but I can't say that this outfit was ugly, at least not in person.. the girl who wears it makes the difference too, that I will say.. that's just my opinion. Some girls wear this better than others. xo
im a cast n I work in agrabah and sadly this outfit hasn't stopped men from grabbing at her waist and commenting bout it. also we had a few kids not actually want to meet her or notice her
I sooo wish they would have taken her purple dress in the movie made it her signature blue/green and switched out the skirt on it to pants. That way her mid drift would be covered but she would still show her shoulders and neck (so it can remain more true to the character) and jasmine never had bangs before right? Lol why now i wonder. She still looks beautiful though.
I totally feel you, Shelby, that would've been a great idea.. there are so many questions and everyone is wondering why they didn't do this that or the other. xo
I love this video! Thank you for your thoughts. I'll have to manage a trip to the parks to see them in person. It will be a while though. I've also been loving your vlogs with Rachel :) keep up the great work! :)
You did such a nice job with this! I love the sleeves too! Hailey adores Jasmine & she thinks her new dress is "so so pretty" but she's only seen the pics ;) lol to the dads 😬 I agree completely about the hair! I really like it overall but it is hard to see something so different from the movie
Hey, planning to start a new channel called "The Beauty Cream Girl".. maybe we can collab on that channel?!?! You're into beauty creams right?? we should talk about it at some point
i feel it is kind of taking her wedding outfit from the other movie and combining it with the normal movie. Love how they brought in Raja on the belt. so nice to see more tie ins like that so that the kids can grin about it.
I think the more I see it, the more it grows on me. I love the details, and you're right! They don't pick up well on camera. I think I'd like it more if it didn't have that mesh turtle neckline thing. If it had a different cut, I'd like it more! I've heard several friends of Jasmine say the neck piece rubs them raw, so maybe they'll update it.
excellent points!!! yeah, I wish they could've incorporated her necklace from the movie where the neckline is.. hopefully they'll fix that issue. It doesn't suit all the girls well, I don't think.. not super flattering. xo
awwwwwww, thank you! I put up a new secret vlog but you have to watch the end of the baby shower vlog to see it, there's a link to click on it in the video.. I'll probably add it on the description box. I didn't want to freak people out w/more vlogs so I have it as unlisted.. hope you'll watch!
I like it! And I looks a lot like the purple outfit she wears in the other films and tv shows so I like that they didn't do something completely random. Also Ariel has a dress in the parks now that she doesn't wear in the movie at all (the blue/turquoise dress) so it's not the first time Disney has changed things up from the movies. Overall the new Jasmine outfit is gorgeous in my opinion!
At first when I heard about this I thought they were going to do her outfit in Aladdin II Return of Jafar or in the TV series. Upon seeing it for the first time I had the same reaction as everyone else. From what I understand some people were complaining and by complaining I mean they were shouting out for change on the internet cause it was promoting bad images for women or some other ridiculous reasons. Quite honestly I don't hate the new look, but I do miss the original. Yet I can always watch my VHS copy of Aladdin to see Jasmine's original. I agree I really like the new look and maybe in a future Aladdin project Disney will provide a reason why Jasmine chose to change her wardrobe, heck she is a princess she has got to have many other outfits. Thanks for a great video and your thoughts hopefully many others will be as understanding as you. Now I must start saving for a trip to Disney and get a photo with new Princess Jasmine.
I really love the new outfit. For some reason I didn't really think the old outfit was appropriate for a princess. Can't really put my finger on why I think that but this new outfit is elegant and regal.
this is a great comment! My emotions are all over the place on this topic----I totally hear you, but I also hear the people who are upset about the change. But you have some excellent points----Jasmine showing off her body wasn't "elegant" or "regal' really, hahaha... the truth is, a real Arabian princess would've never worn that outfit in the first place----its makes me wonder why she was ever even drawn like that in the first place---did we just stereotype attractive Arabic women to dress like belly dancers??? lol. A lot of knowledge about Middle Eastern culture has come about in the past 24 years and we know how conservative they are in dress now.. think of the berka.. But I mean, I grew up w/the old outfit and I'm always gonna carry a torch for it, but the new outfit is def more regal/elegant. In person its really beautiful, I just think people need to get out there and see it. xo
I was always kind of sad that the character I performed wore pants.. I did try to own it, but it was easy to see that the kids preferred those big ballgown dresses. They just did.
it just looks so cheap now! like even the wig! they could have just made the top lojnger if it really bbothered them but omg it was such a beautifully detailed outfit before now its just somethiing from party city
The dad thing!! Man, I actually have a photo of my father with Jasmine from 2003 when we were eating breakfast at one of the Disney resorts. My mother vehemently hated Jasmine for years because my dad had such a massive crush on her. My mom definitely did not think it was cute lol
OMIGOSH I totally feel you and your mom! hahahahaha that's so sad but I felt for those wives!!!! I honestly did! most didn't care I guess but I felt for the ones who did care.. and so thanks for making my feelings feel justified.. my heart goes out to your mom.. let her know that there was one Jasmine who cared! lol
Having been to the Middle East in both summer and winter, I think they could easily say this is Jasmine's winter outfit. It can actually get pretty cold during winter in some of the higher elevations.
I love Aladdin's new outfit as it makes sense for him to wear the prince outfit, now that he is a prince, instead if the street rat outfit. I don't like Jasmine's outfit though. It's too different from the movie. I wish they had kept the same outfit she had but made the top cover her midriff so it was a bit more modest to help with some of the unwanted attention issues.
I don't understand why people are saying that it is more "realistic". We are talking about a cartoon character here. They are about as unrealistic as they get, so why want to make them look anything but? The only reason Disney covered her up is probably because some Muslim group got loud or some SJW started complaining about "sexism". Not because she was getting attention from desperate daddy's. There was never an issue with the costume for the past 24 years, so why is everyone having a meltdown now about her showing her belly or shoulders? Oh thats right! Because its 2016 and people are offended by everything. There was nothing wrong with her previous costume or her wig. It made her look like the cartoon character, which is the point of a costume isnt' it? I am so over this nonsense about making everything "kosher" for societies special snowflakes.
I love her new outfit! I don’t think I would have chosen this one over her more recognizable crop top and harem pants, but it’s still obviously her engagement dress (which looks better paired with Aladdin’s royal clothing), so it’s easily recognizable by the kids. And IT SPARKLES *_*
I still believe they could have made the original outfit more modest by simply modifying the top, but they still took this dress from the movie, so I think that’s why this change doesn’t disturb me
yay! I'm glad too! I only wish I could've uploaded the one Rachel and I did together first. :/ but I felt like I needed to get this up instead of waiting any longer.. hope you'll watch the one where she gives her two cents too though. xo
Belles hair was the drastic change for me as nowhere did she wear her hair like that. This outfit is basically a blue version of the purple one she wore in return of jafar so it is recognizable. I also had a doll of Jasmine that was basically this exact outfit just purple when I was a child so this isn't new to me in fact I was shocked at the uproar
I'd heard through the grapevine that some of it may have been done due to more issues with some men being too forward and inappropriate. I don't want to say that it definitely is, because I haven't heard that firsthand, but there had been apparently, a lot more instances of Jasmine "going to see Raja," so to speak. Also, I do think it does respect more of the culture that the film comes from.
The costume is just a little too matronly IMO, especially compared to her outfits in the movie and even the outfits of the other princesses in the park. It would be nice if this reduces inappropriate advances from adults, but I'm hoping they at least do some touch ups on the wig.
Not going to lie, the first time I saw the picture of the new outfit it was around halloween so I thought it was just someone who tried to dress as Princess jasmine for halloween. We had the conversation in the break room about Both Jasmine and Aladdin getting redesigns and I know the performers were also concerned about the heat in those outfits since they are outside in MK. Once I started seeing more pictures I started to like it more! I also feel the same way as you do about the hair!
I agree I think this is more end of the movie Jasmine. I honestly appreciate that it is a bit more modest. I think it lets her beauty show instead of just showing off her body.
What are your thoughts on the new Mickey and Minnie Mouse character heads? I know that for the most part they haven't come to WDW yet (they are in the new castle show) however they have been introduced in Disneyland. Just wondering what you think
+The Cody Show if I'm honest, I haven't seen Mickeys new head yet, but my husband and daughter have! I'd love to film the experience though! Thank you for asking!
I think my main problem with Princess Jasmine's outfit is the turtle neck thing. If that was removed, I think I would be able to accept the outfit a little bit more. By the way, I've watched all of your videos about being a Disney Princess & I love them! I really want to audition some day, so thank you so much for posting those videos, Jennifer! ☺️
hahahahhahahahahaha about the turtle neck thing, that thing bugged me too in the photos I saw before meeting her in person. It looks downright awful in photos.. honestly, when it comes to that particular piece of the outfit, I honestly think the girl wearing the dress has almost everything to do w/how that thing looks... the girl who wore it in the video I showed seemed to have the right kind of neckline for it.. it didn't come off terrible.. and in person, it's extremely detailed---that's the thing, there's a zillion details on that outfit that don't show up on camera, only in person can you see the intricate designs on it. Also, I think what would've looked nicer, would've been if they'd of done something similar to her necklace in the movie, that gold simple necklace.. a neckline featuring the necklace built into the costume somehow?!?!??!! They should've had sketches made and a voting booth for her outfit done before investing a ton of money into a redesign so big like this. lol.
The whole outfit doesn't even look like its from disney. It looks cheap and feels like it would be uncomfortable to be in. And I understand that there is to much skin showing but if you really wanted to go for a not so much revealing they should have just gone with her purple dress. It looks like something you would find in party city, this is Disney were talking about. I am a jasmine lover, shes my favorite and to see her in that outfit makes me sad. Oh also the hair, omg why did they add bangs.
I love the new look! It makes it so that you don't have to avoid stomach rolls as much and allows more modest girls to play as Jasmine. That way, they have more options for costumes while still being true to the character. However, on the wig, the bangs drive me nuts!
+Emma Hughes my husband and I were just discussing this yesterday. Lol, I am happy it's happening in California and not here, at least,I heard we're getting the Guardians coaster at epcot, but keeping tower of terror the classic way. But I feel sad for the people in California losing their classic tower of terror. But I'm actually excited that they're changing it because I love Guardians of the galaxy, so I'm excited to see what they'll do with it. I have a feeling it's going to be really fun. 😁
I didn't know they weren't changing it in Florida! That makes me feel a lot better! I am sad to see it go since it's such a classic ride but I feel confident that Disney will make it a super cool ride!!
Oh I hadn't heard they were changing it here. Maybe they are?! I only heard it was in California. I will have to check on that. I know we're getting a roller coaster with the Guardians theme, in place of the ellen thing at epcot..I did want to try out the classic tower hotel ride in California because it's slightly different from ours, but I don't think Disney can go wrong with a Guardians theme update. Hopefully not anyway. Lol.
At first I was much like you Jennifer, what did they do? But now I love the outfit. I think it should be a well welcomed change. Also one day I hope to be friends with Princess Jasmine, and this outfit gives me some hope in being able to do that. As for the hair, I preferred the older style. Maybe because it was big and voluminous much like my own hair lol.
hahahaha, don't we all wish it was seasonal??? They invest sooo much money into the costumes, when I worked there, during training, they went over the cost of Mickey's shoes.. I think each shoe.. not the pair, but each shoe, they said cost like, $1000 or something crazy. So very valuable.. so if that's what Mickey's shoe costs, I can't even imagine Jasmine's outfit.. I'm betting it's here to stay unless they get too many complaints to guest relations or something. xo
They say it was because of sexual harassment but if that was the case when will they fix Pocahontas which I really don't want them to. Jasmine was fine before
I hated the costume at first. It is slowly growing on me though. But I went to see the official Disney musical in London last week (it's on Broadway too) and her outfit's just like the old one in the film!!! So at least it's not completely gone
+Melina Fiol like you mean for sunburns? I always loved the Jasmine outfit for Florida weather because I had the breeziest outfit of all the face character roles. But I had to wear sunblock. Glad to hear that somewhere out there is an original Jasmine outfit. 💕
I like it, the outfit reminds me a lot of her wedding dress. Though, I do agree with you that this change seemed like a political statement. Jasmine is muslim so it would make sense for disney to want to cover her up for in order to stay PC. I also read that a well known social movement group in particular was reinforcing Disney to change Jasmine's outfit specifically because of her thin figure being shown by her costume. Apparently, Jasmine's "slim figure would give the wrong idea to little girls and young women alike." Regardless, I like the outfit and how it sparkles. Yet, I have hope that Disney brings the classic Jasmine outfit back nothing beats a good 'Ol classic.
I hear that!! Yes, that could be an issue.. I do remember dad's asking some of the princess Jasmines (not me) but others to tell their daughters that they weren't fat, that they were beautiful, etc. I know, sad. But yeah. That is nice, that this outfit will also make it easier on the girls portraying her, because I definitely felt self conscious about what I was eating at lunch, etc.
Woah her hair looks a lot smaller, it would have been cool if they kept the size somehow .. I love how it looked so close to the movie, besides that, I feel like the chest panel would have looked nice as the same as the arms :P it's pretty nice still though
I love it! I'm Arabic and think the outfit is more authentic. I think it's beautiful, and personally I'd rather be wearing the new one in the park because of the creepy dads. Not in love with the bangs. And I don't have to worry as much about doing crunches! Lol
Love that you're Arabic, the culture is beautiful. I love a lot of middle eastern style music, especially songs that are featured in the Disney Morocco pavilion. I guess Morocco is in Africa, but you know, the similar beats/instruments. The outfit is more true to the Muslim culture, for sure.. must more modest and that was always kind of an issue for me. Personally, I think they should've thought about that before they made the movie. It's unfortunate that it has taken so long for Americans to learn more about middle eastern culture, but you know, there's more knowledge today. It is definitely beautiful. Especially in person, I think for some people, it's just going to take seeing it in person... yeah, the bangs, not sure what that was all about. yes, crunches!!! hahahaha, that stomach showing was always an issue for so many reasons! xo
Yes there is always time to learn new things. And Morocco is very similar to my fathers country (Lebanon) I feel at home when I'm there in Epcot. I think this is an interesting change. I appreciate that you see both sides to this. You have a very balanced perspective.
Have you heard of the singer "Haifa Wehbe" ua-cam.com/video/HaFaq4fnjvc/v-deo.html .. I love this song of hers. haha. I can't recall if she's Lebanese, but I want to say she is?!?!?! I think she might be Egyptian, but she's one of the singers I like that's middle eastern, also there's a cd "Putumayo Presents: Arabic Groove" that had the best Arabic sounds. Leiley (Transglobal Underground Remix) - Dania & Amarain - Amr Diab were among my faves. .. but as for the outfit. I am sensitive to the people who miss the outfit because of course, it's what we grew up with .. it's our normal.. but of course, there's the other things to consider. The change is understandable and besides the outfit is beautiful. In time people will adjust, I think. thanks for watching! xo
Haifa wehbe was Lebanese. I haven't herd of the other two. I'll have to check them out. If you like those, you might like Nancy Ajram. She's a Lebanese singer too. And of course! I love your videos 💕
+Emily Jj all we have are theories and there's a lot of speculation but Disney hasn't officially said. The fact it was so drastic (in terms of modesty, can't miss it) seems to speak for itself though.
It's obvious that Disney must've gotten a lot of complaints about her being the most revealing out of the other Disney princesses. Me being a Disney purist like you and everybody else, I don't like it either but what can we do? LOL. We have no choice but to deal with it. But the beauty about it is is that over time, we'll get used to it. and eventually it'll just be a normal thing like the last costume was. My trip is in two months and I have every intention on telling Jasmine that I think she's just as dazzling with her new clothes as she was with the old one. As far as I'm concerned, the CM needs to know that there's some Disney purists who understands and still appreciates them regardless. ;)
Just going on what you've shown, it's a pretty costume. Plus just thinking the CM would be less self conscious of if her midriff wasn't on point. And like you said, Jasmine will be able to spend more time with children and not the dads. If I'm right I was 12 when the film came out. But I don't think Jasmines costume really hit my radar. It was the songs and comedy. And rooting for the Street Rat. I did think she was pretty and had a great voice. Not sure if I got to see her the few times I was at disney...the years don't match. Except for the very last year. Also will the merch change too? At least the film is still there.
I love all the modern face character outfits, including Jasmine. (I got to see her and Aladdin at Magic Kingdom in late February before the lockdown). But I feel like if there's any face character whose outfit differs the most from the movie, it's 100% Ariel. Whereas Jasmine's outfit still pays homage to the old one and to the movie, Ariel's turquoise human dress resembles nothing she wears in the film. Absolutely no hate to Ariel, because the dress is actually one of my favorite face character costumes. But please, Jasmine isn't the only one to have been greatly affected by the changes. In fact, neither is Ariel! Mulan, in a way, also drastically changed, and her new dress is possibly the most hated one. I get that they were inspired by her matchmaker look, but the hair's all wrong, the touches of red and gold are gorgeous but still not accurate, and just like Jasmine, what's going on with the bangs?
I'm a bit heart broken to be honest. Aladdin was one of my favorite Disney movies growing up and my mom loved it too, so it was definitely one of the more played movies in my house. But I grew up poor and never got the opportunity to go to Disney World. Now I'm going to be the first in my family to go to university and I was planning to go when I graduated (graduating next year). I was really looking forward to seeing Jasmine, but this has totally ruined it for me. It isn't a horrible costume, but it's not Jasmine. Not the Jasmine I grew up with, anyway. And it's so sad to me that I never got the chance to meet her in the original costume. :/ I understand them wanting to be more PC I guess, but Aladdin took place in a fictional area. I get that it had indications of being in a specific place, but it still WASN'T actually there. And anyway, if they really wanted to be PC this is still not really hitting it since she shouldn't be wearing form fitting anything and she has no head-dress. So I guess I'm just really disappointed.... oh well. :c I really dislike the cut around the chest. It looks weird as if she's wearing a vest over another shirt or something... They should have just had skin showing there - if they had, I think it would look less jarring - I really believe that this small detail is what takes it over-the-top conservative and makes it incredibly difficult to digest. I also hate the wig. It doesn't look full of body anymore and I think that is a huge hit to the look. I'm also upset about the Pocahontas change.. :/ Not so much the Mulan one though since she was dressed as a man throughout the majority of the movie so it doesn't hit me as hard as the others. But I do have a question. Is there any way that you can kind of indicate to a current CM that you used to portray the same character? Obviously you can't just be like "Oh yeah, I used to be Jasmine too" since that would be pretty taboo. But is there some more subtle way that you can make it obvious and kind of make that connection with the CM? I imagine in this situation it would have been an interesting point of topic that you'd want to share your feelings on if possible.
the way your daughter hugged jasmine..my heart melted. So cute!!
Just pure magic right there.
the outfit is not from the movie, that's what bugs me.
+Reck Yu I feel that
+Reck Yu we're all thinking that
Neither is Aladdins under shirt
Same!
So you don't think Ariel should be in her teal gown?
Yes! I feel the same exact way. I'm hoping that they change her outfit really soon. But a part of me has no hope and know that they aren't going to.
I'm with you on it, I've grown to accept and appreciate the new outfit. Also I enjoyed your vlogs with Rachel! It's good to see both of you in the same videos again!
+Jessie B oh yay! I'm so happy! Thank you so, so much for watching!
Of course!
xo
+Jalaine Oobious I hear you! Glad you got that photo!
That jasmine was so good with kids! She was fantastic and looks perfect!
I am so excited to see her at Disney world soon!
Woo hoo! You will love it!
That's great! 😘😘
Thank you!
I hear you, I actually hear this from people quite often! xo
They did the same thing for Pocahontas! Not the right color or even close to the face.
We actually saw Jasmine & Aladdin that same day too! So funny! And you're so right.. the dress is stunning in person and so sparkly.. it is definitely a change that will end up working out for the best.
Glad to hear it
Jasmine's revision is the only one that I'm on the fence about.
I always have to meet Princess Jasmine & Aladdin it’s a must everytime I go to the parks
Omg I've been waiting for this!!!! Yay!!!
love you!
i was thinking another reason for the wig being changed to be less voluminous because i think i recall you stating once before(i could be wrong) the wig was heavy and could possibly strain the actress' neck. i think for the bangs, the wigs are front lace wigs, i believe, and i saw a picture of pocha and you could see the lace on her forehead so maybe they added bangs to hide the lace from the wig? im
not 100% sure
Post what makes you happy hun. I enjoyed your vlogs, Rachel looks fabulous and her baby shower was lovely :)
When I first seen Jasmine's new outfit I was like 'ohh noooooo what have they done!!!!!'.
It's an iconic part of the movie and yet they have given her some meaningless different necklace :(
I think you're right. It's not the outfit that matters, it's the princess in the outfit that children love.
Callie! thank you for watching and commenting!! Your comment made my day, I appreciate all you had to say too! thanks again! xo Hugs to you!
Really enjoyed your opinion on the new outfit, I as well think it's so pretty and modest, but in a strange way also more girly than the one before
I like the UA-cam poll you put up during the video, I've never seen that before!
Hopefully one day I will. xo
thanks for your awesome comment.
honestly if the costume draws away attention from the kids.. because the old weirdos want to take a pic with Jasmine than its for the best!
Well I'm not that random dude, but I'll get a picture with any Princess! Their all wonderful!
+Lauren O'Neil thank you so much for the encouraging comment and for watching! 💕💕
You did such a nice job with this! I love the sleeves too! Hailey adores Jasmine & she thinks her new dress is "so so pretty" but she's only seen the pics ;) lol to the dads 😬 I agree completely about the hair! I really like it overall but it is hard to see something so different from the movie
thanks Leah so much for watching and your sweet comment!! hope you're doing well!
Hey, planning to start a new channel called "The Beauty Cream Girl".. maybe we can collab on that channel?!?! You're into beauty creams right?? we should talk about it at some point
You're welcome girl! Yes, miss our chats! Life is nuts! You know this well I know 💗 mom life lol lets chat soon!
Yes!!! Let's chat! Would love that 😘😘💕💕
i feel it is kind of taking her wedding outfit from the other movie and combining it with the normal movie. Love how they brought in Raja on the belt. so nice to see more tie ins like that so that the kids can grin about it.
I agree, she wore that wig better than most of the pictures I have seen. Some that I have seen also had hair in front of the ears, which threw me.
I'm sure Ariel used to have a similar problem with the dads and grandpas haha. Or does she still wear the seashells? I haven't been in a while
offbook hi! I met Ariel in mermaid form at Ariel's grotto early November last month and she was still movie accurate seashells and fin! :)
We neer get her in her fin in Disneyland. She is always in her aqua dress.
Audrey Lee Young really? I had no idea that she wasn't there with her fins at Disney land! Maybe she's just enjoying her human legs Hahahaha
It doesn't suit all the girls well, I don't think.. not super flattering. xo
i like the costume because the more sparkles the better lol. and I loved the vlogs btw. watched them all :)
awwwwwww, thank you!
I hated the costume when I first saw photos of it but when I met Princess Jasmine in person I loved it!
I love the new costume😊
@@Aiden-ju3ww I'm glad! Agreed!
I met her on in her new costume
If it were just the cold weather outfit, Id get it. But you gotta stay somewhat close to the movie.
+chavah Granovetter hear that
I saw the outfit in person and thought it was lovely!
YES!!! YOU will love seeing the outfit in person! I hope you can see it at Epcot, as I did! xo
thanks for watching and commenting! xo
They changed Aurora’s outfit too. Her older dress had bigger shoulder pieces and was more true to the movie. But her new one has more detail to it.
I'll have to go check her out next time I'm in the park!
it just looks so cheap now! like even the wig! they could have just made the top lojnger if it really bbothered them but omg it was such a beautifully detailed outfit before now its just somethiing from party city
I wish they had kept the same outfit she had but made the top cover her midriff so it was a bit more modest to help with some of the unwanted attention issues.
good points.. all good points and I think many agree..
I honestly love the new outfit, I get that a lot of people feel weird about it but I think it still works for her.
+YearoftheDragon hear you!
I love her new outfit!
awesome! hahaha, you're in the minority! lol
I love her new outfit! I don’t think I would have chosen this one over her more recognizable crop top and harem pants, but it’s still obviously her engagement dress (which looks better paired with Aladdin’s royal clothing), so it’s easily recognizable by the kids. And IT SPARKLES *_*
I still believe they could have made the original outfit more modest by simply modifying the top, but they still took this dress from the movie, so I think that’s why this change doesn’t disturb me
Ah I'm glad you made a video about this !
What do you mean by Belle's hair? Her yellow dress and blue dress hair are both pretty darn close to the movie...
I haven't seen the outfit in person but it looks really pretty!!!
+brit britt 💕
I'd heard through the grapevine that some of it may have been done due to more issues with some men being too forward and inappropriate. I don't want to say that it definitely is, because I haven't heard that firsthand, but there had been apparently, a lot more instances of Jasmine "going to see Raja," so to speak. Also, I do think it does respect more of the culture that the film comes from.
+Danielle Shin-Lee I hear that!
The costume is just a little too matronly IMO, especially compared to her outfits in the movie and even the outfits of the other princesses in the park. It would be nice if this reduces inappropriate advances from adults, but I'm hoping they at least do some touch ups on the wig.
feeling you
Jennifer Oakes im just laughing because there. was a fabric or net at the back of the wig
It's not matronly at all. Sleeping Beauty's costume covers her to almost the same amount, nobody calls that matronly
I think my sister met the same Jasmine when she went to Disney!😆
rock on!
What was the purpose in changing Jasmine's outfit?
What are your thoughts on the new Mickey and Minnie Mouse character heads? I know that for the most part they haven't come to WDW yet (they are in the new castle show) however they have been introduced in Disneyland. Just wondering what you think
+The Cody Show I feel a video coming on! 😁😂💕💕
+The Cody Show if I'm honest, I haven't seen Mickeys new head yet, but my husband and daughter have! I'd love to film the experience though! Thank you for asking!
I want to meet princess Jasmine at Disney World next summer, I hope they change the outfit back.
They should've had sketches made and a voting booth for her outfit done before investing a ton of money into a redesign so big like this. lol.
also, thanks for watching! Hope so much that you're cast! xo
Why couldn't they have went with her purple outfit its modest and was in one of her movies I just feel it was the better option
+Amanda Asmat hahaha I totally thought that too!
i think its beautiful and respectful i love it lol
agreed! xo
I'm not sure how I feel about the costume change. One thing I initially questioned when I first saw it was why change the wig too?
:D I hear that! haha, ironically, I just uploaded a video about the wig (the old one, anyway, lol)
did they change pocahontas too?
+Brittani White 😭😭 yes, Rachel and I talked about that in another video..
I love the new look! It makes it so that you don't have to avoid stomach rolls as much and allows more modest girls to play as Jasmine. That way, they have more options for costumes while still being true to the character. However, on the wig, the bangs drive me nuts!
lol on the wig! I know, I know, those bangs! :D
1:38, People will recognize her as princess Jasmine. I think Disney was maybe trying to be more respectful.
It makes sense actually, it reminds me of her wedding outfit with Ali...
It's very modest I love it, but I wish it was for her winter outfit, u know, but I think it's way too much fabric
Merida has flowers on mermaids top
This is kind of off topic, but how do you feel about the tower of terror change to guardians of the Galaxy?
+Emma Hughes my husband and I were just discussing this yesterday. Lol, I am happy it's happening in California and not here, at least,I heard we're getting the Guardians coaster at epcot, but keeping tower of terror the classic way. But I feel sad for the people in California losing their classic tower of terror. But I'm actually excited that they're changing it because I love Guardians of the galaxy, so I'm excited to see what they'll do with it. I have a feeling it's going to be really fun. 😁
+Emma Hughes what about you? Thoughts? Feelings?

I love this new outfit, much more historically accurate and still glamourous. They messed up big time in 1992 when they released the cartoon.
yasminetaeler I completely agree. This is definitely more historically and culturally accurate.
is this an official change? or just a change of her costume for the winter months??
hahahaha, don't we all wish it was seasonal??? They invest sooo much money into the costumes, when I worked there, during training, they went over the cost of Mickey's shoes.. I think each shoe.. not the pair, but each shoe, they said cost like, $1000 or something crazy. So very valuable.. so if that's what Mickey's shoe costs, I can't even imagine Jasmine's outfit.. I'm betting it's here to stay unless they get too many complaints to guest relations or something. xo
They say it was because of sexual harassment but if that was the case when will they fix Pocahontas which I really don't want them to.
Jasmine was fine before
Did you have to tan while being jasmine?
I hated the costume at first. It is slowly growing on me though. But I went to see the official Disney musical in London last week (it's on Broadway too) and her outfit's just like the old one in the film!!! So at least it's not completely gone
also, do you think the dress helps with the hot weather too? Less skin is exposed for long periods of time etc. What do you think?
Gisselle Penaloza .
Thank you! Will check her out. 😊❤
Is there a reason they changed it so drastically ??
As far as I'm concerned, the CM needs to know that there's some Disney purists who understands and still appreciates them regardless. ;)
Glad to hear it!
+Anna Cairns I hear you. That's a good question about the costume! Time will tell
Thanks for replying Jennifer. They may revert in time. x
I am not Happy with the New outfit.
I hear you
So am I, Jennifer Oakes. This pisses me off!
Adlin Figueroa Yeah I don't like it at all either. This is not the Jasmine I knew. I never even got to meet her at all not even as a child 😢😭
I wasn't happy with the original outfit. She looked like a harem girl. At least now she looks like royalty, nobility
dad's need love too
