Nicely detailed video. I remember when these ladies first came out, had us going crazy. I had seen them last year in Orange County, and it was amazing, but the star was gone. Each time, it seems they have communication with Dawn, it's over. They still sound great. A few weekends ago, they performed at a community college up the street. Very very sad story but it's still good music. Love yall. Thanks for video
They were huge back in the day. I remember seeing them on the early 90s tv show Roc. They were basically playing themselves then they did the theme song for the second season.
So Solid Crew is more of the not from USA so they dont get the play! I been rocking with them from the jump 20+ yrs same for the circle: Swollen Members, K-OS Choclair Kardinal Offishall all of them werent getting the attention an shine they should have in late 90s going into 2000s
@ToneyLo I don't know about that. The top 4 are Destiny's Child, Spice Girls, Dixie Chicks & TLC (not including those KPop groups with inflated sales) but as far as talent wise, they're certainly on par with Destiny's Child & TLC.
2:48 - 3:30 LeftEye broke it DOWN 4 us like a common denominator in da VH1 "Behind The Music" episode. 6:39 🔥 Dawn was da Ice Cube of da Group & peeped da B.S.
They were definitely special and stunted... not too many can touch their harmonies in r&b. Their beauty, class, and elegance were everything. They ushered in a new style for girl groups. Destiny child was my era but was not better than EnVogue, having more time may put them over. From what i noticed in interviews, Dawn wasn't the problem, she jus wanted them to be paid right. If all ladies had her back it may have worked out.
Could you please do Leaders Of the New School,Black Sheep,3rd Base,Das Efx,Naughty By Nature,Flatlinnerz,Bahamedia,Group Home,The Fugees,Fatal and the Artifacts next.
My opinion they are #1 female group of all time. I felt that at the time(early 90's) and still do. It's unbelievable how they all could sing, harmonize, perform live very well, and look good. Having said that I give credit to the guys who put them together. Looking at their videos and performances from the past, it's clear they were part of top knotch management. I mean their look, wardrobe, stage show, choreography, and marketing. I knew each individual. The machine is going to get their $ first. I do wish EnVouge had a better deal though for sure. They would of had a longer run on top probably ,which from a talent standpoint certainly deserve.
The end of En Vogue is when they released that bs EV3 album without Dawn. They had Dont Go on there. But that was the only song with Dawn. Lets be realistic here. En Vogue were nothing but recording artists. Not songwriters or producers. So they only got money from sales and concerts. Not publishing. Plus they had to split the peanuts that they got, four ways, from album and singles sales. Which was probably 7 points or less divided by 4. Which was the standard record deal at the time. But the manager probably got no less than 20% from that. Producers got about 2 points out of that. My bad, they probably got less than 7 points. Since they werent signed directly to Atlantic. Atlantic paid Foster & McElroy's production company. The production company took money off the top and paid En Vogue.
The song is "don't let go" actually and that wasn't the only song on the album with her vocals on it plus she chose to leave abruptly after recording that whole album with them so that was her dumb decision.
They claimed to have wiped out her vocals but her backgrounds stayed and some of her leads did too (I.e.: “Love Makes You Do Thangs” and “Sitting By Heaven’s Door”). The only songs her vocals were NOT on were recorded after she left, and those were only two: “Eyes Of A Child” and “Does Anybody Hear Me”
En Vogue. The first time ive seen them was free your mind video. im talking early 90s. then don't let go. My mama wud play that song to death. this around wen set it off was out. Im in 4th grade. I didn't understand shit they was singin about. He is right any of them can take the lead. Because u can't tell the vocals apart from each other. the only person i can point out is dawn. everybody else they name wouldn't click to my mind. It clearly shows learn about the music business. Or ur wake 50 something yrs old. Ur saying goodbye to ur crib. It also showed me don't make a relationship with somebody who produce ur whole album. Read the contracts up n down. If 800 pages long. 800 pgs mf going to read. Its about lively hood.
ALL artist are stupid. I had a deal at 16 and I was smart. I negotiated my money. Plus a percent of the albums. Plus I wanted to be involved in all finances spent and made. We signed it. I never put out music as I chose not to but at 16 I was smarter than damn near every artist who has ever existed.
@@aceassn716 nope. I literally was raised by 2 educated parents who knew better. I have always been extremely bright. I literally got 2 degrees and did law school without ever opening a single book.
I had this thought years ago when I discovered this channel. I had a debate with my home girl about if they were really stunted. Compared to groups like TLC and En Vogue, I think they weren’t as stunted. In terms of “New Jack Swing” styled R&B, I think SWV were the top of that in the early to mid-90s. I think the shelf life of 90s- 2000s female groups was short. Even Destiny’s Child’s run could have been longer.
The problem child was Dawn. Not about money, managers, alliances, or who slept with who. Dawn already signed the contract and breached it when mommy (Sylvia Rhone) said she can't have dessert until after dinner. Then she had a fit and rebelled against and crossed mommy, who happened to be the most powerful woman in the music biz. Mommy then blacklisted her. And now, 30 years later, the problem child continues to but cry about it on youtube. Solo stardom wasn't meant for everyone. The end.
@@aceassn716 All the legal council (which they had) wouldn't change a curse thing. Dawn even had her own manager and lawyer before she signed away her rights like a buffoon. Why? All because she had a gripe about committing to something she was already contracted to fulfill. Only after she bounced and realized the cards weren't in her favor, she went on a Shannon Doherty crusade against the industry.
Exactly. Everything she's been a part of has fallen apart. She could've still been in En Vogue making money instead of struggling and that's her own fault. She has issues, I think she needs therapy but her pride probably won't allow her to go.
@@ToneyLo thank you. Not once in 30 years have we heard her take a single accountability for her actions. If she considers Cindy and Terry only to be constituents, she can go on the road with them and get that paper -- which I think is better than her being a broke internet conspiracy theorist.
How can you even put destiny's child in the same light as en vogue? That's their predecessors... you can tell there is a big difference between the two groups😂
Sad there wasn't enough money to go around to take care of talent like this. Beautiful and had great voices. Still a legendary group
I agree with everything you said here.

Facts
You made the same mistake all the artists make when they start out. You didn't read your contract.
Terry being the real villain all along doesn’t surprise me for some reason. My granny always used to say “you gotta watch those quiet ones.”
After all these years after hearing people blame Dawn for what happened to En Vouge, it was Terry all along! Wow!
Grimey AF for that.
This breaks my heart. I had a crush on her
I remember when Terry Ellis had that single out and was wondering why didn’t Dawn Robinson have a solo deal first.

TLC had better songs but En Vogue were far better singers

EnVogue had the better albums.
Completely disagree. Both groups are great. But En Vogue has more music that’s high on replay factor.
