when i first heard this song i was tripping balls and believe me i was in heaven
I was tripping balls when I first heard this song lmao
I was high af and i dont think this song ever sounded as good as it did then. You know what i mean
Cool story no one fucking asked
Just listen to the music, don't keep trying to compare it to the way they "used to be". They are trying out a new sound, and it is actually pretty refreshing if you give it an open mind.
Brotha-Man right!
Hell yeah this song has me groovin! Especially the last minute ! 😍
I'm very glad they're trying a new sound. As great as they were you can only have so many songs with the exact same guitar effect before it gets stale.
My only issue with this song is that it's not as unique as their other stuff, like this sounds like the kinda stuff I've been hearing on the radio for 15 years, but I really have to listen to the full album. This is still a good song, though.
new members new sound
Nothing is this funky and on the radio. You would never hear a voice this rough on the radio
No Growler music is in one category. They have versatility and always did. I like this and it will be a kick ass dance song when they do it live. Open your mind.
its good. give it time people.
this is the future
+Felix Delgado this shit makes me wanna dance , we just have to understand that some people aren't as open minded.
agree the band has potential
love this direction
Agreed, first couple times I heard it I didn't like it at all but now I can't get enough
Shake me up, Shake me down, Shake me down
Not a lot of people left around,
who knows how
MadWorldTV isn't that similar to a cage the elephant lyric
yea it is
Me
That's exactly what I was thinking of when I first heard this song
a shame people can't celebrate a band coming into their own and creating some really great music
Ok, this reminds me of when they dropped "Good advice". At first i thought what a horrible change, i hated that song.
Then i listened to the whole "Chinese Fountain" album and was delighted. Fucking Growlers are always into new things, lets hear the full album before dropping any hate.
These guys are amazing and we cant expect them to sound the same as the HUNG AT HEART days.
people complaining that is not the same growlers or different are such casual fans, bands change over time, just take a look at growlers are you in or out album and there last years gay thoughts the sound and style changes
gay thoughts ep is a collection of songs from before they had a label, those songs were made before in or out.
m0bels all im saying people need to give there new album a chance i like it, just like many fans do, theres bearly two songs that thry have come out with so far there more to come, if your going to complain and say there not the same growlers, that there old suff was better your not really supporting the band and helping them grow, give it a chance
This is not a "change". This is a project with Julian from the Strokes. It's a departure, an experiment. It will change the band, yeah, but it's not like they are going to make City Club from now on.
not the same growlers? guess scott and stonio werent growlers then.... smh
I dig it. I like the old stuff too, but I love the evolution of this band's sound. They keepin' it real. Well done Mr. Casablancas.
Im feeling this!! 👽
I dig it! I feel like it needs to time to grow on you, but it gets better each time I listen to it.
Exactly.
New listener to this band and this is literally the most true. First time listened to it I was like 'yeah that's pretty alright' but now it's my go to song when doing art or just relaxing
Apoc 2 💪💪
I feel like this album will be more groovy/funky .... very interesting .
after reading the comment section can I just say that people who miss the old growlers there is a reason why the old albums are still available for you to listen to. Learn the art of letting go.
If you're not bobbing your head to flow the vocals, tapping your feet to groove of that bass line, swaying to that rhythm, then you have never been a true Growlers fan and don't even deserve to appreciate this badassery. This sounds like the Growlers I've always loved.
im so stroked for the new album
ha
u salty nick?
aye
This song is fucking great.
its just so hard to express how much i love this song
yo this new album is already sounding awesome.... can't wait to see you guys in Vegas
+Cristhian Ramirez yeah bro. I'm ready lol
We Growlers fans should be proud. Different can be good. I still like this one a lot, moves me more
Obviously it is a different sound from previous Growlers music, but give it a chance. And if you can't tell, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes helped produce this album. I love it!!
I know I'm seven years late, but honestly city club fits in pretty well with all of their other albums.
This is bad ass. Very unique sounding... Can't wait to hear it live.
everyone saying "that's not The Growlers", come on! Bands change sounds, and it's cool! They're evolving, trying new roads, and i think that's amazing. I really like this song, i personally can't stop listening to it! If you like the old-growlers' sound just keep listening to the old stuff and just support the band, damn!
These new tracks have really grown on me, stoked.
love Brook's singing his voice is unique rythm in the most great singers like Bowie changed and changed and yet he is one of the greatest..
YOOO THIS SHIT IS GONNA BE A BANGER LIVE. Fucking Dope
Dude you're awesome. And you're right
+DaBABYateMAdingo for real watch them beg the growlers to play this shit live. It's dope
Hell yeah it is! Gonna be grooving Oct 7th! I won't be on this planet for about two hours.
+HuBrIsRaDiO
Two hours? Try using harder drugs
+DaBABYateMAdingo who said anything about drugs? They are my drug.
stoked for this album
stoked for this album
stoked for this album
Album for this stoked
stalked fot his album
all bums are stroked
Always gonna love the sound of anything ya'll release
I'm hoping this will grow on me, really liked the first song off City Club but this idk. I like how they're expanding and trying something new with their sound, who wants a band to keep doing the same old thing?! But I'm still relatively apprehensive about how I'll feel about this album.
The Growlers have the defense of never being steadfast to one sound or genre. Garage? Psyche? Surf? All of the above yet none.
+Pulchritudo humana very true, they've always been themselves and had their own unique style and sense which is one of the reasons people love them so!
the more i listen the more it grows on me. the growlers have moved in a new direction and i'm liking it
digging thee new sound tbh
A great band is a band that evolves and changes while keeping their uniqueness of sound and melody, their addictive qualities.
Been addicted to The Growlers since 2010, Still am.
Instantly fell in love when I first heard this lmao
This song is the epitome of cool. Simply put!
i like the new songs the growlers will always be one of my favorite bands
i like this. its different. these boys may finally get some radio play with this album. shit evolves. if you dont like this and want some beach goth youre just living in a memory
@omgwtfbbqmixes Joy D, Leftover Crack, Gang of Four and TSOL? sounds fucken dope to me
jabbawockee131 cool opinion. Ill disregard it like this new album.
This song is so sick live, the whole crowd swaying and skanking. Beautiful women dancing on you, the smell of dank in the air. If you hate the new sound, lol be there for it live
Disregard the critics, this is the fucking shit.. Viva Los Growlers
This song is soooo badass😻
Imagining brooks grooving to it on stage 😎
the growlers working on the new sound. all any artist can do is put everything they like together in new ways and it always grows on you
these new songs made me a fan tbh ... wasn't before
I listened this on the subway, and instantly loved it. What a track!
such a groovy song
I saw them a few days ago in Portland and they were awesome!
Look, yeah it sounds different and they had a pop artist produce it. The essence of the band, though, is still there. It might take a few listens. Tbh I didn't really care for their earlier sound when I first heard it, but now I swear its some of the best I've ever heard. Put yourselves in their shoes, if you only lived for your art, wouldn't you want to see it to it's full potential?
Still banging
this new albums slowly growing on me cant wait ,hoping to be impressed
this is this that is that, this is natural! The Growlers great shit different.Still listening...gonna see them in Munich soon
Perfection
I love this song, it makes such a statement
seeing them live this weekend! love the new and old sound. ♡
Brook's lyrics are still flame
THis song bangs for sure
It's amazing and constantly stuck in my head! None of their albums truly have the same sound. That's what's so great! You don't know what to expect.
this is the best album. never really cared about them until now
new tracks making my day 😋
Can't wait to see the Growlers in Boston in eight days!
Can’t wait to see you guys for both days here in Hollywood 🤟🏽🧡
I'm really glad I'm not a long term diehard Growlers fan, because I think this song and everything on the album is fucking phenomenal. Maybe if I had the predisposition of following the band for years I'd think differently like some people do lol.
I love the length of the song. Plus that little guitar towards the middle end. Awesome track. Can't wait for February to see los growlers:)
I never listened to growlers before, only found them thanks to Julian Casablancas and this song is great. Haters gonna hate.
Sooooo good. This song makes me happy af. Thank you The Growlers. ❤️
Julian casablancas produced and worked with the growlers on this album so it makes sense his influence is there. If you like what casablancas has done in the past this album will be a lot easier to get into. that said it's a lot more 80s influenced and poppy which isnt for everyone. Bands change and you can always listen to their old music if they go in a direction you don't like.
Seeing them on the 21st this month so stoked!!!
Such brilliant music. This song got me hooked on the growlers!!
this is the best album yet. thanks cassablancas.
yeah, as you listen to it longer it get better, just something different and new: ) i love it
Yes, I'm only a man
Judgements of something ancient
Clocking my time as finished
The same is all replacements
Ignorance is complacency
Why are you purposely fading?
No stand, no sit, no stopping
Ripping through the neon prophecies
Got let off by a ticket stub
My time is fading fast
Through your mouth and out yours'
Say what?
(Shine till the sun comes up)
Come down
(You oughta wash your hands and pray)
For what?
(Shaking hands, swapping dirty blood)
Pass it round
(You never do what you say)
Say what?
(Shine till the sun comes up)
For now
(You promise that you'll come around?)
I'll be around
So I fear, but I don't know what it is
So I want, but I pretend I don't need
So here's the pain of the stubbled lover's kiss
I throw my pages all away like shaking wrists
So shake me down
Shake me up (shake me down, shake me down)
So shake me down
Shake me up (shake me down, shake me down)
So shake me up
Say what?
(Shine till the sun comes up)
Hey now
(You oughta wash your hands and pray)
For what?
(Shaking hands, swapping dirty blood)
Pass it round
Say what?
(Shine till the sun comes up)
Come down
(You promise that you'll come around?)
I'll be around
I tell me it ain't hard
As I hold my breath thinking why
Tell me to my beating heart
That I know for sure
Better than I can know for sure
What it did
My mistakes bend like payphone metal
I never know just what will come
As our [?] hands bind together
River and me children
Longer than a trillion
Get what I am given, forever
(So shake me up)
Say what?
(Shine till the sun comes up)
Come down
(You oughta wash your hands and pray)
For what?
(Shaking hands, swapping dirty blood)
Pass it round
(You never do what you say)
Say what?
(Shine till the sun comes up)
For now
(You promise that you'll come around?)
thank you!
Stonio's groove is insane
There a good group,I went to Vegas show 5/5/2017 shit was fuckin awesome.
The growlers are really changing their style but its still pretty good (:
Loved this song the first time I heard it!
I knew this band was special from the first time I heard them..They have balls !!! Change it up roll the dice.. Are you the same as you were 6 years ago ? I don't care if this album falls flat on its face.. Makes me like them more.. Who has more bombs than Neil young but it never stopped him....
i hope you guy play this in vegas!
I like it. Bands change, it happens. I know it sucks when a good band changes and you don't like them, but I always have to remember that they're just trying to test out new sounds and their old stuff will always be available. I'm glad they tried out a new sound to be honest, many of their songs sound the same. On another note the "shake me up, shake me down" part sounds extremely familiar.
You're comment became irrelevant when you said many of their songs sound the same
I like this a lot! Much better than City Club. Definitely a completely new sound for them, but as long as there's great songs like this on the album, I'm all for it
Luv this
Choice Bro!! love it
Just found out about this band yesterday, and I love this song as well as City Club!
Love their tone
I fucking love this though.
Amen.
A lot of people are hating on the new sound, but it's not like they haven't changed before. Are you in or out and Hot Tropics were similar but very different from both Hung at Heart and Gilded Pleasures, which were also similar to each other. Chinese Fountain was pretty different from all past releases, and this one looks to be pretty different as well. I like it, and i have come to expect a different sound from them with each album. As long as Brooks and Matt Taylor are in the band I'm not worried about any changes in quality.
I only heard a few Hung at Heart songs and Monotonia, it still recognisable despite the differences, I do believe this album is really different from the others I heard and that's the reason why people are reacting badly, but I didn't listen to all of their stuff, so I'm maybe wrong.
yes more please
personally i love the new direction, its quite different but its still growlers and still cool
this song is a high in of itself
Classic Growlers
this new album sounds amazing
Doesn't matter if they sound different. All I have to do is down my bag of goodies and put on my dancing shoes. This is going to be sick live.
I got lost in the album cover for a minute, shits trippy. Lol also noticed the cane has no shadow haha
this track is good shit i must say
im not sure how i feel about this sound... but see you guys in vegas
Loved the growlers since hung at heart album and even the new albums are still Pretty great, People change why are you suprised the sound did too
Diooooos! Suena taaaaaan increible
La voz de Nielsen es maravillosa ♡
I like it
I can't wait for the new album 😍
I love it!!!.. so glad I pre ordered the album I'll see you guys in California coming from Canada me and my hubby can't wait!.. 😎
this is hype i love it
This was everything that I expected and MORE Live 😩❤️❤️
Julian Casablancas needs to let you guys do your own thing
I'm sure they're doing this because Julian lets them do whatever the fuck they want.
why would they have signed to his label? there's a difference between controlling and collaborating, i'm sure they would take anything a producer with a track record like his on board.
actually, in a recent interview, Brooks noted that Julian had more control over the songs produced than compared to their previous albums they produced under other record labels. People are annoyed with these guys because their sound has changed as a result of getting rid of a major player who produced a significant amount of the songs/albums --> Scott, the drummer, was also a producer of the albums. Would have liked to see what their new album would have sounded like if it wasn't so heavily influenced by a member of the Strokes
