Dear Ma'am Thank you so much for all the information provided. A humble request to share the link from where I can download the NCERT Book on Learning Outcomes. Ad I could only find the older version. Regards
@t This is a very good article on Bloom's taxonomy. It has 30 examples of how to craft learning objectives using this methodology and also contains 180 plus verbs related to Bloom's taxonomy.
Ok So i have a few observations.....the learning objectives in the example of this video had vague verbs. There is no way one can measure understand, learn and know. There is actually a very thin line between learning outcomes and learning objectives. Some research work also highlights that the two can be used interchangeably. If we put the same verbs in our objectives then outcomes would be redundant. A teacher can share a sort of a checklist that can be used by students to fill while the lesson is progressing. This can help students measure their own learning and will train them on reflection as well. The last objective of how to write and the characteristics of a learning outcome were not even discussed in detail.. so the video did not achieve the objectives shared at the start. Even the objectives shared at the start did not have verbs in them. The popular name for learning indicators is 'Product'. It is the work done by students or also referred to as evidence of learning. This evidence should also be aligned with the level of the objective.
I am so sorry for replying it late, I just saw your comment and believe me it fills me with immense happiness to read this. You have analysed the video so well. You are absolutely right - Learning objectives and outcomes can be used interchangeably and we can just use either of it. You are also right when you say there is no way that we can measure 'Know, learn and understand' and that is what I have also emphasised. The only difference is here I am taking Learning Objectives as broad aims of the lesson. If you go through Cambridge specifications it talks about Learning AIMS (these are broad) and Learning outcomes. Also, in some way I did tell about the characteristics of learning outcomes as that they should be specific, visible, measurable and should preferably belong to all levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. I value your inputs and it clearly gives an indication that you have your concepts very clear. may I know more about you.
Hello ma’am! I’m a new teacher and I was asked to make a ppt for my class which has learning outcomes in it. Now I’m confused cause I thought learning outcomes are only written in the lesson plan then why would I include them in a PPT for my students? Please help me understand what they actually want from me?
Dear Ayushi, learning outcomes should definitely be included in all the sessions that you conduct with your children. Not just written in the ppt but also explain it to the students well. It is extremely important that we share these learning outcomes and children are aware of what is going to take place, what do they expect from the session, what are they supposed to do. I hope this answers your query.
