Thank you for your video. Regarding 7:03, the cause of milk spotting discoloration on silver coins has been attributed to the preparation of the silver planchets prior to the stamping of the coins. The planchets undergo burnishing with small polished steel beads in an agitator vat with a detergent solution. However, the rinsing off of the detergent may not always be sufficiently thorough. This may result in possible detergent residue left on the surface and these affected areas may not become visible until perhaps months later. An effective method to thoroughly remove the residual detergent after rinsing of the planchets is to utilize pressurized steam cleansing, but most mints do not perform this extra enhanced cleansing step. However, since 2018, the Royal Canadian Mint's Silver Maple Leaf coins have eliminated milk spots stain discoloration, because of their Mint Shield technology process which was developed by Dr. Xianyao Li, who is the Chief Technology Officer at the Royal Canadian Mint.
That sounds close to being right to me.
Thanx for an informative reply.
Very informative Wolvie. ❤
Thank You, Lisa!
I don't care about milk spots on my generic silver. I keep them for stacking. But anything above a generic with milk spots, concerns me.
Great info as usual 🇺🇸
Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. Saw it on youtube and decided to try it on one of my 30 milk spotted Brittanias. Awesome! Now I have 30 Brits that look magnificent again. No scratches from what my scope can see.
I have a problem with milk spots on my 2016 1.5 oz Canadian Snow Falcons.
Big problems in 2016 with RCM
My Philly Morgan milkspotted the same damn place. No milkspots on neck or reverse but it milkspotted in that open area below the chin.
I have never seen the coin before in my life!
To prevent milk spots, soak all of your coins in acetone before sending them in for grading.
☕️👍🏼
Thank you!
Here is what I think a Milk Spot is. After exposing the planchet to heat in the manufacturing process the planchet turns colors. These colors are removed with Sulfuric. After the colors are removed the sulfuric is neutralized with alkaline borax. After the acid is neutralized it is rinsed off of the coin. If it is not rinsed off it becomes a white haze or spot (salt). Is this correct ?
What I see on that Morgan is it is totally covered in "Milk Spot" I think if I soaked it in Fluoride it would all show up.
Algorithm food and a smashed 👍 Button!
I check my silver every so often and if something does get milk spots it upsets me but sadly not a lot I can do about it I don't clean any of my silver
yep LOL if you don't clean it off you have to live with it
I don't clean my silver coins or rounds either. I take the milk, toning or tarnish over micro scratches
Just saw a video with 2023 maple and has milk spots. Do a search . I was surprised 😮
Only milk spots so far are ASE and Royal mint products. Sticking to Maple 🍁 fir now, btw my Krugers are milk spit free not so much for the philharmonics
Boy I cleaned the Milk Spots off a phil harmonic, it looked terrible, it was like the Pipe Organ on the reverse was on fire. Looks great now. Fluoride and Carbomer took it off, soaked it about 5 times.
I have 2022 Silver maples with milk spots
Oh Really?
@SilverWolverine95 ha ha I just double checked my coins and I'm mistaken. 2022 Maples are OK it's the kangaroos that are starting to spot. Sigh. Sorry abt that. The maples are great quality. I wish I liked the design of the coins more than I do, especially the style of portrait. It will be interesting to see what the RCM does next year with new monarch
I am disappointed when I see milk spots on my collectables. Toning also bothers me because some toning is plain ugly in my opinion.
I am not lactose intolerant but I still don't like any of my coins to have milk spots.
LOL, That's funny
Has anyone experienced milk spotting on the Maple Leafs from 2018 and above with their new Mint Shield protection?
I did mention that in the video too... Thank you!
There is a yt video I saw yesterday. Maple leaf 2023 with milkspots
I really do not like milk spots
I don't like them either, but I can deal with them on bullion especially if you can buy it already milk spotted cheaper lol
I would have a big problem with milk spots on coins in my collection. I do not buy anything from mints that are big offenders.
Then you don't mind if I clean them off ? LOL
with Rembrandt
@1:20 Your voice dropped an octave.
Thanks.. Sorry!
Run a small blowtorch over the coin…the milk spot will disappear.
I'm thinking heating Caustic does not make it go away. But I might give it a try, we'll see. I use Rembrandt.
@@TobaccoRowe1960 Rembrandt? What’s that?
It is toothpaste that is to expensive to brush my teeth with. It consist mostly of Fluoride and Carbomer. Carbomer is a water absorbent plastic fiber. I started a series on youtube today using it on a Silver Eagle. Note: it works but it is Not Cost Effective.@@richardlove4287
Doesn't work
