wow, I learned A LOT! I've been kinda depressed about all the counterfeit bullion and coins coming out of China. I never knew there was a quick and cheap way to test for fakes. Thank you!
in argentina when banks were closed and they robbed their money, people used to trade with jewry. Coins were less valued than jewry. There are pure .999 jewry now, that dont tarnish and it is hard no soft because they are compressed and arc soldered. Look it up.
As I'm just getting into collecting that is why I love this channel because you go through detailed demonstrations on how to test your coins. Thank you so much for this video I'm starting to like collecting coins more and more but I can only get one a month. Slow going but at least it's going.
Thanks for posting that video for his newbies. That’s really useful information. I really enjoyed watching that and learning from that as I do all your videos.✌️
I’m learning more over time, and I watch several coin enthusiasts/numismatists channels now, it is teaching me so much more than I knew before. Thanks for all you do! New sub! I had one incident being ripped off by a coin seller so I’ve used magnet and weight tests before. Now I know about the ping test! Awesome…
WOW! Thank you Silver Seeker! I very much appreciate this! I knew a lot about the testing of real Silver, however this video of yours was VERY informative and educational. Keep up the great work. Two thumbs up.
A very helpful video for everyone. I believe you had a least one previous video on this subject and where I originally found the link for the Ping Tester & Stack Stick. I've been using the coin ping tester and stack stick for a few years now with perfect results. Several apps for sound testing have come and gone in Apple's APP Store, but the Precious Coin Tester APP remains and I use it when I want to confirm what I am hearing, especially in noisier environments like coin shows where a coin may be questionable. This is definitely a video all new coin buyers who should pin and come back to from time to time as they navigate through their coin buying. Well done Silver Seeker!
Awesome video on the counterfeit The Fakes love it thank you I learned so much from this video with Fakes and real silver Seeker you're the man thank you again man God bless
I have a piece of sheet metal. It's fairly small at 6"x9". I'm positive it is silver. What I want is to determine the purity to see if it's even worth taking 45 min to take it somewhere
Very cool equipment. It's scary for new stackers who do not know how to test. Did buy a pinger tester thing recently after watching some of your other vids.
Do these ping tests work with bigger bars like 5, 10, 100 ounces? Thanks never mind I didn't finish video. So basically don't buy bars unless you have money to buy an expensive paperweight. Sounds like it's easy to make a fake coin with the proper dimensions.
Does that testing system come with that tablet being I don't have a cell phone also there is no link to check it out I don't see the pocket thing link either I don't think I need that expensive thing, but worried I got morgans off ebay but think the big morgan dealer don't know seems best just to buy from someone you trust
Nice video. You can still get a certain amount of silver ping sound from a silver bar. You can also get a magnet slide which is mutch cheaper than metal detectors.
Is there a source that provides a chart or formula to determine the "ping" frequency (and perhaps even the decay rate) for pure silver/gold based on diameter and thickness for rounds/coins and Thickness, Width, and Length for rectangular bars For example, I plug-in the diameter and thickness of a .999 silver coin and the output of the chart or formula is the approximate "ping" frequency one should obtain from a quality item (no voids, major defects, etc) I realize there will be some differences depending on cosmetic design differences, whether a round has Reeds or not, but I would think the frequency deviations would be relatively small compared to deviations found by fakes using different metals and false purity claims.
Great info. I got the Pingcoin app and tested some buffalos... all good thankfully. I look forward to testing the rest, hopefully with the same results. New sub.
Hey I wanted to bring to your attention that you mentioned the SDbullion giveaway for a monster box of eagles, but isn’t it for tree of life’s?? Just wondering.
@David Armstrong smart man? I was not rude to you. No need to be insulting because I'm not exactly what you think I should be. Do reply to things if you are going to be negative to another person. I'm doing what I can to help others. FJB
Great video and plenty of useful information. My concern, being fairly new to stacking, is where are the fake coins coming from. I would think that reputable dealers would not have any.
Not. All 🥇 and 🥈 is real. This has been going on since Roman times. Back in those days they used to clip the edges of gold and add cheaper metals thereby debasing the original metal making it less valuable...This is what con artists do.😢😢😢
Mainly from china. One such company is called TEMU which offers all kinds of very well made fake silver and gold coins for a few dollars. Don't order anything from them unless you want 20-30 or more scam texts a day. I have never had a serious scam problem until I ordered some cheap Chinese crap from them and now I'm wondering if I should change my number.
Totally unrelated to the content of this video, but are the gloves you wear in your videos made of nitrile? I’m looking for an alternative to cotton gloves for handling bullion. Thanks in advance for the info!
Hello 👋, Just discovered your show this afternoon, I appreciate you're knowledgeable teaching skill set. My question is. Does that here exist a 1942 NMM pre October 8, 1942 struck on silver? That's supposed to weigh 4.07 gms struck on a silver planchet? I can't find anything on it.
I was very disappointed I bought a pocket Pinger. It worked great with the app that came with it. I haven’t used it in quite a few months. I went to buy some silver the other day and went to use it and they started charging for the app now. If I didn’t know they were going to Start charging I would’ve never bought the pocket Pinger. I couldnt hear the difference in the ASE’s.
Video release 3 months ago bought my phone last September. Google play says both apps are too old for my android version and cannot find any ping test apps that are valid for my new android phone.
Accidentally sold some fake prospectors using the app since they don't really have everything uploaded and it pinged properly on a 1 oz morgan dollar. remembering the way silver sounds is important.
I have a pinger and magnets. I don't buy from eBay and I don't have a local shop close enough, so all my purchases are from places like SB, JMB, Hero, etc.
Not using a nail, using a soft wooden stick or a soft plastic bic pen. I won't say that it can't happen, anything is possible... but I've never damaged a coin doing this.
Both of the apps on this video the Play Store says they're out of date for new phones you have another app possibly any help would be useful on a good app for silver bullion checking
tested a .999 round on both apps passed, tested 3, 1/2dollar a ken,Frank, and walker on both apps , and passed, how in the heck i didnt know about these apps, always relied on my sigma original THANK YOU VERY MUCH for this Info
is the fake silver eagle you tested towards the end actually 1ounce exactly? It said 1 ounce on the sigma, but I think that's because that's what the weight was supposed to be. It measured on the width properly so I was just surprised if it was actually exactly 1 ounce and the correct width as well, since it's fake
If that expensive device is just testing the electrical resistance, why can't one just use a regulator volt/ohm-meter to test the electrical resistance through the coins? The resistance of silver and other metals should be available. One needs to measure thickness or size depending on how one wants to measure resistance. From edge to edge should give a more accurate reading.
So, if someone had a coin, the outside was silver, but inside was copper. Plus the right dimensions. It’d pass the Sigma test possibly? And the magnet test. It would fail the weight and ping test though.
Hi, I’m 15 years old and thinking about dropping around $1300-$1500 on silver. What do you guy recommend me buying? I was thinking either coins or bars or maybe even both. Im also thinking about buying 1oz of gold and would like to know if I’m making the right choices and if I should buy right now. Thanks 😊
I started buying silver recently and i've found that it really depends on if you want to become a collector or stacker. I'm more of a stacker, so i want silver bars. I tend to like the secondary market too, as they tend to sell silver at lower prices. It does come with the 'buyer beware' warning because of scammers though, but there are reputable dealers too. I just try not to buy too much too high, as the price of silver is trading 3$ above spot right now, and the price is not very favorable for us retail buyers. i would like the spot to drop 3-4 $ so i can get a good deal which i can hold for the long term.
@@SilverSeeker I'm not saying you are supposed to know. I'm asking if you can post on their app that some of us can't get it for that reason. We can't tell them because we can't download the app.
@fractalnomics yes it's a known test but the results are open for interpretation. If you don't know exactly what you're looking for you can be confused on the results.
Very interesting. Frankly, I don't think you can even consider being in any sort of acquisitive mode with regard to silver or gold without one or the other Sigma machines. There are just too many fakes out there. I don't know the price of this little machine, I assume it's less than the big brother. But the big brother is $1300/$1700 depending on which accessories you buy and if that saves you buying one single bogus ounce of gold, it's a win.
I wore a silver ring in a pool for a week on a 22 mile charity swim. My ring turned black. Apparently that means it's silver. So could pool water be used to test if silver is genuine?

Doea the thick green line in the sigma show thickness as well in the dimensions screen?
No the green is just variance because design difference can slight affect diameter (high relief for example)

It would fail the weight and ping test though.
It would be hard to get the right dimensions and the right weight if it wasn't also pure silver.
