He’s like a little boy and music is his toy…
His excitement is pure and wonderful
John Paul Jones you are so refreshingly humble and a true musical genius of enormous proportions. Thank you for your music.
Amen. x
"very polite to me" its almost like he doesn't realize hes an actual living legend! Love this guy!
humility, simplicity, spontaneity, education, kindness and sensitive soul. the characteristics of great people
What a class act, Jones is. Not a hint of Ego. Just a musician who loves music and other musicians. And, he happens to be a Legend. Love to meet him one day.
what a man
Those who know... know he was the best “musician” in that band. Period.
Such a lovely gentleman... You'd almost forget that he was part of one of the heaviest rock bands ever... Someone I would love to sit by his feet and listen to him play... ❤️
John Paul Jones is my favorite member of Led Zeppelin. He seems like a wonderful human being. No ego at all.
Does he realize that he is one of the greatest of all time,so humble.
Just playing the mandolin on Battle of Evermore should give lifelong membership to The Mandolin God club.
The Zeppelin would never have flown without him
Authentic, honest, and genuine. He was always my favorite musician.
JPJ is such a gentleman...such a pure, gentle, kind soul. He is so humble. I love him.
Can you imagine having the privilege to set down and talk and play with this true gentleman, so well spoken and kind, god I wish our society would follow his lead. He has had such a huge impact on so many and still so humble. We are all blessed to enjoy your hard work and talents, your loved by many. Thank you
Page and Plant, I never understood, why wouldn't you want to work with this Man. Genius.
JPJ is a quiet man but a strong and talented individual who has a heart of gold. Zeppelin would have never been number 1 without you. Thank you ki d sir
As a zeppelin fan since a young teen, whenever I hear them, more and more I listen carefully to what JPJ is doing. It’s easy to here Page’s riffs, Bonzo’s Drumming and Plants vocals, but without question he was ‘the glue’ and so important to that lengendary band. And yet his body of work and skills since then are equally amazing. And a humble classy guy as well.
I recently read somewhere that he's working on an opera; and I thought: "Why has he waited so long?" After all, he was conducting a church choir at the age of 14. One of the best all round musicians and arrangers of his generation.
I’ve listened to Zeppelin since the ‘70s, but recently just listened. Amazing base in most of the records, sometimes overpowered by Page, but always there and exquisite! Thanks Jonesy!
This man lives for music, love and friendship. He hopes to talk french better .The only french word he says is perfect . ( I' belgian) Maybe a language is like a song, a kind of music. When Robert speaks in interview, I always find the rythm of his speech so remarquable.
l LOVE you John because you are SO DOWN TO EARTH. I was a electric bass player for about 40 years and had to retire because of scoliosis. you're a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT human being and musician. thank you for your great music.
Saw him playing mandolin with Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch at Georgia Theater in Athens Ga about 6 years ago. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
I. Totally. Love. This. Man.
Me too, let's be friends? :D
One of the best Bass players in the world, not to mention all the other list of instruments, incredible Musician, thank you Jonesy bless you
Jonesy playing air mandolin made my day
One thing i like about Jonesy, is that he doesn't brag about himself. he's like Jimi Hendrix, musically humble
Keep learning. Thanks for the music of our lives, JPJ. So good to hear from you. In 1984 I packed it up after several years in Hawaii. I went to California and met my wife within a couple weeks. Our times on the road exploring California and beyond, your song "Going to California" keeps ringing in my ears. Still in Cal and still together, still Zeppelin fans.
Jonesy, you tell stories the best, magical way humanly possible! Zep for life!
yess ❤
...such a beautifully Gentle Musical Giant. Love you J.P.
Well said!
I could listen to him talk about anything, all fucking day. What an absolutely delightful human spirit.
John Paul Jones is the most interesting person alive, I worship this man.
Showing up at a bluegrass festival and playing mandolin with Mike Marshall and Chris Thile is probably the most extreme example of jumping in the deep end for a musician that I can think of. And that's why I love bluegrass festivals.
The Dillards he speaks of are the band which portrayed the Darling Family on the Andy Griffith Show ( plus Denver Pyle ,who wasn't a real band member but was a fine actor). Outstanding musicians. Listen to the song 'Dooley'. One of the most talented bluegrass bands you will ever hear.
I always place Jonesy & Charlie Watts in the same bracket, for humility & humanity. Without even mentioning their prowess as musicians. Bloody brilliant.
What? JPJ is a genius, Charlie Watts was one of the worst drummers ever put to record.
@@BillBlazejowski obviously no musical taste. Still!!
OMG this just came up in my feed, I vaguely know John's daughter Cindy from my time living in Bristol and my kids went to school with the Hugos and I play mandolin. I'm also admin for Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings website. I also had a lovely conversation with Mike Marshall when I picked him up to take to Sore Fingers Summer school. I'm also a huge Led Zep fan and my wife is a Steiner teacher. It's all connected.
The Appalachians and the Highlands were the same mountain chain in past geological history. Let that sink in.
someone who would tour with them (i don't know who) said one day " he would play with us but could easily run the record company as well". He was just on his way very often, not wild partying like the others and sometimes would turn up at the show without having seen the others. There a part of him that impresses him: he cannot be influenced, he is a strong minded person with a terrific humour that shoots in the middle of the target every time. His music heritage is immense, and the more impressive is the fact that he makes it look so easy. it is very impressive to learn that in 1971 he had only started the mandolin since one year .....And i like these kind of hard working men in the dark doing their best to make the others shine. i would like to meet you mister jones.
Bravo
J'ai rarement lu un si bel éloge de JPJ.
the worlds most versatile master musician
one quarter one one of the most important bands of all time
a studio musician whos played on an INCREDIBLE number of classic hit songs
arranged a whole bunch of others
and produced a bunch of others
yet,somehow hes kinda escaped detection.
thank you, so much, John Paul Jones, for this interview.
Wow, he picked up mandolin in 1970? Imagine how different those early Zeppelin records would be without it.
Well, they wouldn't have been nearly as good that's for damn sure!
Jonesy awesome person...
I'm currently building my first own mandolin, all because of you and Led Zeppelin. Thank you JPJ, you guys keep inspires me. It means a lot.
WOW - DO IT !
He has with his continued teaching, paved the way for so many wonderful musicians.his tribute to tomorrow's children ❤❤God bless you and your family ❤
Love his sense of humor.
Amazing how you and Robert are pulled towards old time music. Alison Kraus is amazing and its great that it speaks to you both. The roots in America.
It would be fabulous to be there with all of you playing and singing. Here's to Hope.
Imagine Bill Monroe, Jimmy Page and J.P. Jones all in mandolins playing together in a jam session.
One of my Idols...thanks to him, Mike Oldfield and Steve Windwood, i'm a poli-instrumentist...
bought an epiphone mandolin, great fun, and my influence is yourself Mr Jones.. merci
This is making my day, listening to JPJ mention all the greats he met and worked with...Kraus, Welch, Glen Phillips (my teenage crush). Thanks for the interview!!
So cool, thanks.
Master musician and a true gentleman.
Good Luck,Godfather! Better that than Grandfather, right? Love your music, JPJ!
My hero.
I could listen to this guy talk for hours
Gotta bromance on this guy, ain't lying. Play bass and now mandolin. What's not to love about him?
i know picking favourites is crass but John Paul was always my fav Zepp member. They've all got their own awesome characteristics but J.P's modesty wins me over every time. He just comes over as being so generous every time, which is head and tails the best human characteristic of them all... Besides sexiness of course! Though he's got that too. Some may say Robert wins there but Roberts just a slut.. lol..
Humble English Gent!
Great man!
JPJ is such a great fellow. Someone I would be very comfortable with spending time. Even though he is "HOLEY CRAP, IT'S JOHN PAUL JONES" HAHA
thank you for the music
If Rod Stewart ever does another album it's got to be a superstar album with Ronnie wood on guitar, and JPJ playing a bass and mandolin and Kenny Jones on drums 👍
He is so great.
I hope he writes an autobiography at some point
I like and love him.
It’s like listening to a god who doesn’t know he’s a god
Love him!
JPJ is THE ONE-MAN 'Wrecking Crew' for Led Zeppelin. I hope no one here thinks a 'wrecking crew' ruins anything / any song, since I'm referencing the Los Angeles Capitol Records building "Wrecking Crew" - what they called themselves - they were the seasoned professional musicians recording the rhythm tracks for a very large number of recording artists including the Beach Boys, the Association, Glen Campbell, the Sinatra(s) numbers of mo-town recordings among many others. But JPJ was the one-man equivalent for Led Zeppelin. There's always a guy behind the curtain that gets less attention than the front man/men - (and he's the 'swamper,' if you're from Bama's Muscle Shoals.)
That Fairport Convention album he mentioned is probably Full House, has some great mandolin playing by Dave Swarbrick.
Very Cool Guy Very Cool interview 😎👍
Is he great or what ?
oh shit i missed the gig, I live at 30 km from Lunel
It's funny how a person goes to a festival and say's.''I didn't know any one there''...........But every one there knew you.
The silent assassin!
He's so posh he sounds like the King when he speaks. The King, its going to take me a while to get used to saying that.
Can I adopt him as my grandfather
Formidable de pouvoir ainsi prendre l avion et de se dire, tiens je vais à ce festival et en plus backstage et on stage avec les meilleurs au monde ouf
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jpj should come to Louisiana and study Cajun music
Is this the Fast Show, the very very drunk man? 🤣 Seriously though, best bass player alive
god :)
Someone commented on one of these threads that JPJ and David Bowie are the best human beings ever. WoRd*
I learned how to play listening to him on vinyl, scratching the record to get to a certain part. I credit him in my education on rock n' roll bass. And melodic bass,Ramble on baby!
Casse collection
I'd like to hear what tune he airplayed at 01:41
7:13 my fav part.=)
If you don't like Led Zeppelin , I don't care to talk rock music with you.
Isn't that the French word for mandolin? No? Well, it should be.
the french for mandolin is mandoline...amazing, isn't it? and what about this corsican festival? Les nuits de la guitare de Patrimonio? Jeff Beck used to play there...
I am a great LZ fan, but Page is every time like: i am know it better, i am the best, more and more...JPJ is the complete opposite...the guy I belkieve who nom much more in music than Page...so shy and I learn from the others... :)
"to grow from nothing"
A regular guy.
He speaks as if he only learned to play mandolin after his time in Led Zeppelin.
When Stan Laurel happens to be the best rock bass player who ever lived.
DREW JEERS Well spotted. I’ve thought exactly the same.
