- Some of the stories in South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem's new book are not holding up well in the face of fact checking. Unfortunately for Noem, one story that is not being refuted is her tale of shooting her own dog, which she is frantically trying to explain away as contempt for her grows among dog-loving American voters.

My beloved rescue dog Kate (we were together about one year) was my life. She protected me like nobody's business. She respected my dog Cruise, my cat Janis. No problems there. But people could not come near me. She destroyed everything in sight including sofas and phone books when Daddy was gone. I didn't have the heart to crate her 8-10 hours a day while I worked. Almost a year of this and I finally found a great home on 5 acres with two other dogs and a married couple. She eventually became a therapy dog at a women's prison where the two women/parents worked. Happy ending. I do miss her though. Executing her never crossed my mind. In fact, I interviewed and visited interested parties before surrendering. I'm still not over it, but I know she was in a much better situation.

So, we can question where on the personality spectrum most anyone is at, but for Kristi Noem we have to know that she lies squarely at the psychopathic end of the personality spectrum. IOW, she's the perfect Republican VP candidate!
There seem to be a lot of people with with most or all signs of sociopathy or psychopathy in the Republican party but also Conservative parties in other countries like the UK.
How do these people get to these positions, how do they get elected and even selected to stand for these political parties?

@@rogerwilco2 It's not just politics that is inundated with psychopaths, the business world, particularly the executive suite, is also rife with psychopaths. For the investor class, having a psychopath in charge of a company is great because they have no qualms about firing workers and outsourcing to exploit cheap labor, lower cost workplace safety controls and lower cost environmental controls, because lowering cost means more profit for the shareholders. I'd argue we are overwhelmed by psycho's in politics for the same reason: politicians that are psycho's won't have a problem gutting regulations that protect workers and the environment and their owners, the wealthy donors that get them elected, see increased profits when they get their political pals to give them what they want. The rest of us can pound salt!

Purina, a company who knows a little something about pets, says this on their website, “A dog is no longer a puppy between 12 to 18 months with some variation based on breed, size and personality. Smaller breeds tend to develop and reach maturity sooner, both physically and emotionally versus large to giant breeds that can take up to almost 24 months before reaching adulthood.” A hunting dog is on the larger end so Noem is wrong again. Cricket was a puppy.
She doesn’t even know the difference between livestock & poultry so it’s not surprising she doesn’t know a 14 month old dog is still a puppy.
In the book she says the puppy went after chickens but in interviews she says Cricket was attacking livestock. Chickens are not livestock. They’re poultry & any real rancher/farmer would know that.

You expose them to bird scent slowly. Even then, he said, some dogs are untrainable--he said the dog sleeping at his feet was one of those dogs. He didn't shoot the dog, he just didn't take that one hunting, made him the house dog. *That's* what you do, or you take it to a shelter, you don't frickin shoot the dog.

A 14 month old dog _IS A PUPPY!_ I have known several hunters who have used dogs and they don’t hunt with their dogs until they have been trained and are at least 2 years old. Her excuses are ludicrous.
With an old dog it woulld have been horrific just the same. You go to the vet and discuss about putting him down (by the vet). You don't HATE a dog, not even a "working" dog. You are cruel and sadistic.

She said her dog “chased the pheasants“- he scared the birds away before anyone could shoot them. That’s when she decided she didn’t like the dog. She was mad she couldn’t train it TO HUNT. Now she’s saying the dog attacked her and bit her kids. In the book she says the kids asked about Cricket when they got home from school.

Gayle King said a 14 month old dog wasn’t a puppy! She obviously went off the top of her head without research. I used to train show dogs. We considered a dog as an adult at 3 years old. Dog years are measured in seven year increments for a reason. So that we humans have a rough scale of what to expect out of a dog over the years. A year old is like and early elementary student. Two years is like a teen age adolescent. And three is considered a young adult. That puppy that was killed should have had the chance to relearn or unlearn behaviors. If the Senator did have the time, skill or patience to train her puppy she should have either gotten a pro trainer or given the puppy up for adoption. Killing the puppy was an extreme act.
