Actually the first time I found the game clicked is the alliance raid too. I am a big fan of FF3 remake and playing with 23 other players in such a stage is an unique experience, and I love the interactive mechanics in the raid.
You saying every time that you took a break from 14 was on good terms is honestly such an important characteristic of being able to enjoy a game for the long term. It's like listening to different bands than your favourite band for a while and coming back later, only to appreciate them even more after the fact. Hope you can meet your goals for 2023!
Your story's very similar to mine. I was a big D2 player who was burnt out around the beginning of 2020 when I tried 14. Your video of the ARR relic weapon was what encouraged me to get my warrior axe. Hope you enjoy the 6.3 day 1 alliance raid this time!
Fishing in FF is a game entirely in it of itself. I have probably 2000 hours on FFXIV just fishing. There is a tight knit and extremely dedicated community specifically for fishing if you ever decide to get into it. It's extremely addicting as well. It's basically pokemon: fish edition.
My favorite part in this video is what you said about taking a break on the game, that it's always on good terms with the game. That's what I feel, sometimes I just don't feel like playing the game, so I stop subbing temporarily. This doesn't mean I don't like the game anymore, quite the contrary, it helps it so when I come back I restart with a fresh feeling and not burnt out. After committing one year (during the peak of the pandemic) in the game there was just not enough content to do left for me, but that's not bad at all, just means I can play other games in between. Now I usually play 1-2 months every patch release and then take a break, unless there's something that catch my attention and I like it that way.
Hi there! Thanks for sharing your opinion and experience with FFXIV! It’s my favourite game. ☺️ For myself, I’ve been with this game since 0.1, so before A Realm Reborn. Taking this into consideration I’ll do my best to keep this short, because, in 10+ years a lot has happened. 😂 For me a Realm Reborn was great! Compared to what the game was before, it was amazing! 🤣 By the time that chapter of the game started I had all the jobs then available at level 50. I even had an Alt at level 50. You see.... there was an exploit during 0.1 👀 **ahem** Anyway, ARR was when the story (main plot) really started taking off in my opinion. But, it wasn’t until Heavensward that the game truly grabbed me and stole, and broke, my heart in the process. 🥺 I confess Stormblood was not my favourite expansion, but even so, anything that made my favourite characters come to life even more was worth it! Shadowbringers was a revelation. I honestly couldn’t believe how good the game became! Yes there were ultimate fights and many other exciting things to do, but for me, the story is always king. Man did I cry a lot. 😭 And then, BOOM!! Endwalker!! Aside from the obvious emotional impact, it felt that the conclusion of my journey had finally arrived. If FFXIV had ended for good at that moment, I would have been happy. ☺️ Thankfully, the adventure continues, and that’s good, because I still have plenty of things I want to do with this game! 😁 Years passed by, I grew older, busier, and gaming could no longer by my only hobby or passion, and that’s ok. But I’ll always go back to FFXIV! Favourite thing to do besides advancing in the MSQ? Collect mounts, minions, glamours, weapons, and leveling all my jobs. Yes still lol (Except DoH and DoL) Sorry, this wasn’t short at all my bad. 😅 See you on the next video! 👍 Take care. ❤️
I think the level 50 relics are less boring if you do them with a friend. I have 2 remaining, only doing them as I ran out of content for now, but there is no achievements for them all unlike the 60's and some others. Played since Sept 2010, 1.0 launch and I love seeing how new players are playing the game.
Black Mage is definitely kind of a bad idea if you can't stand being a turret. Red Mage feels more like a raged dps rather than a caster, and that's why I like it personally. Very mobile, with very satisfying SFX!
The most mobile caster is summoner and after the 6.0 xpac rework, summoner is super simple to play now with a rotation quite similar to bard but simplified. You have 3 summons (instead of 3 songs) and you have a buff that you throw out, I forgot every 1 min or 2 min. It is the simplest caster to play now and super mobile. But I still love the summoner back in TEA. xD Insane dps with double dots and extra summons due to insane downtime that you can use to farm summons. Also have raises OwO
I just reinstalled a couple days ago and grinded out arr msq and was much more interested in story by the time the first part ended (before patch quests) First got it at some point last year after being annoyed with WoW and ESO and decided to play white mage because I've always been dps in other games. Really enjoying the game now as I'm playing through Heavensward rn and can't wait to level up other jobs as my main gets closer to max. Haven't even touched other content yet outside of msq. Great video.
Been an on and off player as well since 2.5, but my reasons to drop the game were always related to some in-game FC drama. I'll at least share my first time. I was a small sprout, running through Limsa, doing my questing when I got a pop-up on screen, without thinking I clicked yes. Turned out I signed the creation of a new Free Company, I decaded to stay tho, despite having no intentions to be in one. It ended up growing nicely, I grew to really like the people in there, we bought a medium house, then a large and one day, the FC leader just stopped logging in, me being the longest serving officer at the time, the game eventually passed the lead automatically to me and it was business as usual, for the next few months we kept growing the FC, some people left/stopped playing, new people came in, we got new people in officer roles, it was practically a whole new company of people. And then the original leader logged on one day, I was super happy to see her back, but at the same time I was in call with other members of the FC that were like "whatever you do, do not give her lead yet". It made sense, it was a different community, suddenly having someone only a few people knew from back then as lead would be a bit of a shock, any sane person would agree. Anyway I got up to her to greet her back and after a while, with no other messages sent, I just received a text "Give me my FC back", those words landed like a hammer, under normal circumstances, I would happily pass it on and move on, but these were anything but. So I did not pass it back and tried to explain to her the situation and said that she can get the lead back once she gets to know the new people in the FC better. Well not even a week passed when the other co-founder of the FC decided this isn't right, kicked every other officer from the FC and him and the former leader left. Those two were the reason I probably stuck with the game for so long, we built the community together, we worked our asses off to buy the house and everything, this felt like getting a dagger to the back. At the same time I finally saved up enough for the Fenrir mount in the gold saucer, this was pre-challenge log for that place, it was quite the grind and as I was finally sitting on the mount in our FC garden I was like "I am not even happy I got this", I logged off and did not come back til much later. Honestly thought I would never return really. More along the way happened and I took two more extensive breaks but I did manage to clock in over 7.000 hours in by now and during endwalker I've been quite active and having fun. Also I really enjoy watching others go through the story these days, like a dementor feeding on other peoples emotions, always fun. Thank you for sharing your experiences~
Great video! It's fun to listen to someone talk about how they got into this game and what kept them hooked. I started playing in early February 2020, right before covid became such a worldwide issue. Like you, I saw the game during a steam sale and decided to give it a shot. I was burnt out of WoW at that point so I was searching for another MMO to sink my teeth into. I've been hooked ever since. My goals for FFXIV this year is to get all of my crafters to 90. I didn't really get into crafting and gathering until around October 2022. I saw my FC peeps with the jellyfish mount from the Omicrons and I wanted one for myself. All of my gatherers are already at 90, so that leaves my crafters, which most of them are still below level 50 lol
I've only just finished ARR but I can really relate to this video. Especially the desire to play a fun MMO with friends only to have them drop out on the game during the free trial haha.
Lovely video, I agree with the take. When I part away with FFXIV it is always on good terms, and I don't tend to unsub when I part because I want to be able just to login if given the chance. Still need to do the ARR and shadowbringer relics, but I will take it slow.
I fell in love with FFXIV when I started but my favourite moment I knew I would be hooked was the first Shiva fight. The bit where the music drops(I don't want to spoil too much for those who haven't played, so if you know you know) was an experience I had never had in any other MMO. Don't get me wrong I lived my time in Azeroth up until the end of WOTLK but FFXIV just hit different.
Great video! We had the opposite experience with our class transition - I switch to Black Mage after maining Dancer after I found it to be too boring after using it to complete Shadowbringers
My favorite moment was doing the deltascape savage raids on release. Me and a bunch of my fc mates managed to get all the way to beating Exdeath part 1 and that was a fucking thrill. Unfortunately real life hardships struck and I can't commit to a schedule nowadays.
I had many of the same experiences as you, just 7 months before you. Even up to the Ramuh Ex being the only synced extreme i did while levelling - i even won the mount :) What became my bane was my collectors tendency. I am still sitting on Shinryu farming on ex for the mount. After getting abandoned by groups claiming they will stay until all have the mount and then break up before I get mine :( Definitely this game has an overall positive streak. But there certainly are some pain points. Glad you enjoyed!
New World was my first MMO since WoW and Runescape back in the early 2000's , and you hit it on the head by saying "New World left me with the desire to play an MMO that's actually fun", I started playing Lost Ark (it's okay), Guild Wars 2 (great casual game), and recently just started playing FFXIV (Level 41 Black Mage). I've been enjoying FFXIV alot so far, looking forward to progressing closer to end game so I can start exploring some of the Horizontal content. Also waiting to get into my first challenging dungeon/raid (I guess lost ark spoiled me there), but I'm sure end game content will be high quality
I think it is telling that the devs of the game openly say that they really don't mind that players take breaks from the game from time to time. Unlike most other MMOs, their approach to player retention is more along the line of "We understand what burnout is and while we might have a few grinds in the game for those who really want it, we also know that you can simply go an enjoy what you want from it without needing to lock you down into it". That garnered a lot of respect from the player base which some newer players come from games that expect you to spend as much time (and money) as possible on them. As for casters, I'd say both Red Mage and Summoner might be more pleasant simply for the fact that both of them have more mobility. Red Mage dual-casting means that you have a GDC window where you can pop abilities and move without any penalty; add to that both a gap closer and retreat ability and the flow into a melee combo. A bit of RNG involved in proccing some actions but since you're used to Dancer, it shouldn't be too hard to manage. Add to that a decent heal with Vercure and using dual-cast to use Verraise without a casting time makes the Red Mage one of the most versatile jobs and always a welcome addition to any party. As for Arcanist/Summoner, while the early levels certainly have you as a bit more static, the Lv.50 and onward rotation is a lot more movement friendly as only one of your 3 primary summons has long cast times; the other two have instant casts and one even has fast instant casts (1.5 sec delay). The later abilities and Demi-summons are incredibly satisfying to use. And bonus : since the base class for Summoner is Arcanist, it is also the base class for the Scholar healer job which means that you'll also be leveling up another healer job automatically (and vice versa if you run content with Scholar). While the Summoner still has the Physicks spell (healing) from Arcanist, since it scales off of Mind which you won't ever get gear for, it'll become useless once you hit 50; you will however have Ressurection which will allow you to raise party members should the need come from it. Otherwise, Black Mage is more of the typical long-caster job which is why it feels a lot more static. I will give it credit though that once mastered, it is a pleasure of a job to play since you basically have infinite MP due to switching between Astral Fire and Umbral Ice and later levels eases the process further. Add to that the spells for Black Mage really end up making you feel like a master of destruction and knowing how to maximize your rotation and reacting to the situation is quite gratifying. But yeah, every job has something I like about them... well okay, all of them maybe except Bard (I find the gameplay of it very dull personally) and Blue Mage (simply because it can't do normal content with other jobs though the collection of spells part is a completionist's dream come true). - Paladin has tankiness, Warrior has satisfying bursts and self-heal, Dark Knight has tank-buster denial, Gunbreaker feels like a DPS in a tank role. - White Mage is classic healing, Scholar is preventive healing, Astro is buff healing, Sage is healing WITH LASERS. - Monk has the fastest GCD rotation, Dragoon has style and mobility, Ninja has pseudo casting using combinations, Samurai has varying Iaijutsu and burst damage, Reaper has speedy flow windows. - Bard has sustainable party buffs, Machinist has a very ability weave heavy style (and guns! and machines!), Dancer has great utility and support. - Black Mage uses MP more differently than everyone else, Summoner (now) has a fun rotation that you can adapt as needed, Red Mage is versatility and ease of use.
after playing off an on for nearly 8 years, endwalker was finally the expansion where i told myself i would level every single class and job in the game to max level, and as of this week, i've nearly completed my goal. i hit 90 on my gatherers a while ago, i hit 90 on my final non-blue mage DPS job, monk, last week, and this week i've been leveling crafters. i've got them all to 70, and i'm hoping i can get them all to 90 by the end of the month. it's been a long grind, but i feel really proud to have come so close to having accomplished it.
My biggest accomplishment is that almost after 2 years of playing i was just about to unlock the 2nd dungeon of endwalker (lvl 83), but i got distracted and decided to start crafting for the first time ever, so maybe just maybe i will reach the current ff14 content before its 2024, i have basically been doing everything else but the main story, but i think that i will never get a 3rd ARR relic weapon, oh and your video was excellent but c'mon 3-4 hour que's during endwalker was so much fun :D
For a number of years I was playing casually, on and off through the Stormblood days. But ever since the launch of Shadowbringers, I've been putting in 20+ hours a week consistently since then. I just love being part of the community and life in Eorzea is wonderful. I wish I hadn't found ffxivcollect though, because ever since I started going hard on achievements and mounts, I probably play too much. Still worth it though!
And luckily the Triple Triad Card mount is the cards up to Shadowbringers, which is still a lot [1 - 312]. It's probably the most fun goal to work on in the game because it passively brings you to ALL the different types of content. It forced me to do things I wasn't sure about (like blue mage), but that were more fun than I had expected.
My most beloved Memories are also usually big Turnarounds within the whole Game. -Clearing Coils back when they were relevant with 7 other ppl who had no idea about raiding and how the Stuff work. Also with a horrible Ping because the physical Server forbEU were in the US back then. -Experiencing the Start of the first Expansion -witnessed a Raidtier nearly destroying the whole Raidcommunity. So many people quit the Game back then and it was super hard to fill Groups for Savage. -Stormblood Launch and Raubahn Savage + Pippin Extreme was so fun to see. -The Introducing of a complete Savage only Phase in a Savage Raid. The Neo Exdeath Phase Transition was soooo good. -Clearing the first ever Ultimate on Patch was absolute amazing. Still one of my best Memories i have. Currently im also playing FF14 on and off. Ive cleared all the Ultimates so far and usually clearing a Raidtier week 1 or 2 so i have so much Downtime between Patches. Once Savage is done and all of us are BIS Geared i take my time off waiting for the New Content. Not a big Fan of the Alliance Raids or Extreme Trials. I usually do them 1 or 2 Times and thats all because for me there too easy to invest my Time in. I like them though but i want to be challenged.
I just started last month and am just about to get to Heavensward. I’m absolutely in love with this game after being absolutely frustrated with fomo Destiny 2
This game has been in the back of my mind since it's announcement. Growing up, my brother who is 9 years older than me, played FFXI which was the first MMO in the long line of releases of FF. I knew I wanted to play the game. I tried 1.0 when was very young, and to be honest, the game just wasn't fun. However, around the time you tried the game for the first time was the time I tried the game for the third time and I stayed. I also came from Destiny 2. I played PVP heavily in d2, but like yourself, I became so disgusted that I quit d2 entirely in January of 2022. I've cleared all Endwalker Savages so far, and have thoroughly enjoyed the friends I've made in the process. My static and I are looking forward to working on and clearing the new Ultimate that dropped on Tuesday. Anyway, really pumped you like the game and I hope you continue with it because there's no game currently out that receives this level of detail and care. Best Wishes.
As a fellow D2 player, I've been hooked on ff14 since late 2020. D2 just wasn't the same game anymore. The constant fomo and removal of content really took me out of the game. Barely play it anymore. FF14 was a breath of fresh air. Get to play content because I want to, not because I'm pressured into it by the game design.
This moment always sticks out in my head as a big moment for me in FFXIV. If y'all would allow me to rant about old times for a bit, it would be much appreciated. Back in Heavensward in around 2016, the Creator savage raids (a9s-a12s) come out. I started raiding during the raid tier before that, Midas, and got all the way to a8s before my group disbanded due to burnout, especially since it was so hard. During the time between Midas and Creator, I spent hours and hours and hours perfecting my DPS rotation on the Stone Sky Sea dummies. My goal was to be the number 1 ranked Dragoon on my server, Coeurl. I had learned some tips from the current number 1 and he pointed me towards some guides to help me improve my game. The proceeding raid tier, Creator, was probably the peak of my performance as a player in XIV. Like I mentioned before, my main goal was to be the best on the server. To facilitate this was the website FFLogs and ACT, the damage parser. I pushed myself so hard to be the best. My static and I went absolutely ham on the raid tier, beating a9s and a10s in one lock out each and a11s in a few as well. All the DBZ-esque training that I had did between Midas and Creator really did help me become a better player, plus I was greedy, REALLY fucking greedy. Dragoon was a completely different class back in Heavensward and was EXTREMELY high risk vs high reward. You had to cast three Geirskoguls every minute, but each time you cast one, your Blood of the Dragon (BotD) timer would deplete by 10 seconds. The only way to get it back up was by hitting your combo finishers granted to you by BotD, those moves being Fang and Claw and Wheeling Thrust. Which would would show up after you finished a combo was completely random so you always had to be on your toes in order to make sure that you hit your positional and got part of your BotD gauge back. Also you could re-up your BotD gauge by reactivating the actual BotD skill itself, which was on a one minute cooldown. That plus your Jump moves locking you into place meant you really had to master your positioning on the bosses ass and the management of your cooldowns. This all culminated in one of my kills of a12s. This was THE kill that would make or break my road to number 1 on the server for Dragoons. In my way was my so called "rival", who was sitting at the number 1 All Star spot on FFLogs for Dragoon the whole time, with me right underneath. My damage going into the phase change was fucking nuts. At the time, 2.2-2.3k DPS was insane, and I was riding that number the whole time. My BotD gauge was getting low and I had to re-up in order to keep my buff going, in order to keep my positionals unlocked and in order to use more Geirskoguls. So I pressed the button. And the ability went on cooldown. And then nothing. My gauge fell off and my buttons greyed out. I was mortified, but I kept going. What happened? I still don't really know. All I can surmise is that my internet must have had some sort of packet loss or something and it ate my input. But that lost input cost me my shot at number 1. A whole minute without BotD. It was devastating to me. I ended the fight with 2,128 DPS. About 120 DPS lower than my "rivals" numbers. Honestly, at the time, my soul was crushed. Even to this day I still think about how if my internet hadn't ate that input I could have probably beaten him. I also think about how if my team had killed the fight a minute or two faster, like my "rivals" team did, then my DPS would have been higher too. If we had had a Astro instead of a White Mage. If, if, if. Ever since then, I still have a love for raiding, but I haven't been able to muster up the gusto to want to minmax as hard as I did back then. That was like seven years ago and I now have a job that takes up most of my time and when I raid, still with that same group from all those years ago, I just want to have fun and chill with my friends. To those of you who took the time to read my ramblings about savage raiding in Heavensward, thank you. To BigBluePurple, thanks for making this video and giving your experiences on why you love this game. I love to hear other peoples perspectives and reasons as to why they fell in love with this game. For me it will always be raiding.
I'm just trying to make gil nowadays and hoping to get a bigger house in 6.3 so I can finally get into decorating. Same opinion on normal raids though, hope we someday get a tier on par with Eden's raids, though the omega ones were also pretty great. Do give the other casters a try though, if you like mobility, both RDM and SMN are way comfier than BLM, and also require less rotation optimization.. summoner in particular has almost the same mobility as the ranged dps jobs. Other than that, Eureka is pretty cool, specially once you get past the first couple zones, and finishing one Eureka relic lets u get subsequent ones much more easily, specially the shiny relic armor sets. And if you haven't done so yet, give PvP a try, crystalline conflict in particular is really fun and easy to get into, and so are frontlines, though those are more chaotic and last longer.
Destiny 2 was also a factor for me, but 90% of my gaming life was warframe, and it was really struggling to hold me going into 2019 with Covid and trying to finish that year of college, as well as sparse updates I didn’t care about, and WoW wasn’t gonna grab me with the allegations and shadowlands being a follow-up mess to BFA A friend that had also fallen off warframe in favor of 14 suggested the game to me, he’d been playing it on and off for months by that point Started with the free trial, the old one that went to 35, and the rest is history, been playing nonstop since and I love it with all my heart, here’s to 2023 and 7.0
My most proud moment was for sure in Zadnor [Shadowbringer second relic weapon zone]; After working for weeks non-stop on collection all notes and having to farm attempts on duels (which I ony was able to win one... The Second Leon fight in Zadnor [Just the hardest *cries*]) I got the mount needing all notes and I was so proud cause it was all a single player achievement. Someday... I'll go back to clear all duels qwq
I also play on and off FFXIV and thats what makes it great to me, its a game that clearly rewards my time spent(and I dont have much of it to gaming) so I ccan come back every patch, play for a few weeks and then go on to another game (I keep my sub going tho, since its a way to support the game and helps when I want to do something on there) One thing tho, if you dont like standing, even tho RDM has less of it than a BLM, Id recommend you check SMN out, with this rework its a great class, its simple, intuitive and has very little standing still casting(only when you`re on ifrit) and to me its the most confortable class to play atm (sadly I main DRK so still lots of buttons to press), plus summoning is cool! Also, if you`re looking for things to play, totally check out the older FFs, FFVI has a REALLY awesome story , more mature than other FFs, FF3, 4 and 5 are really "a good adventure with friends", FF8 is a bit different and has one of the weaker casts, but overall great game, FFIX is a masterpiece, a real "classic" FF, but Id abstain from it since there are rumours of a remake, you1re already played 7 and X (the remake for 7 s also great btw) , XIII is a good linear story, like playing a book with a badass edgy MC, XII is kinda like an average MMO, lots of gameplay, little of story, lots of stuff to do and if you feel like some old school, try FFXI, Im playing it atm and its great, granted I had to learn about addons to add some much needed UI QOL (like adding a controler hotbar like FFXIV, amongst other things) but it is a great game, different style of mmo tho, much more grind based, but it is still a Final Fantasy and still has the story of one.
For me Endwalker was also the first expansion I played while its current content and I really enjoyed leveling all jobs to 90. Now I can fully enjoy the game with everything else it has to offer like Gold Saucer or Mount farming.
"Took a break on good terms." I feel like that's definitely what makes me enjoy FFXIV so much. There's been times where, either because of my own lack of energy, or because I feel less motivated to do something ingame, I've taken brief breaks from playing it. But it never really is because the game is jarring to me, or annoying? It's just me going "Okay, I need to let this rest for a little bit," and then doing so before returning at a later date, reinvigorated, ready to do something new or catch up on something I missed. It's kind of an unique quality in a world where you're expected to play an online game 24/7 or it's bad and you hate it. You can just.. return and have fun at a later point, no skin off your back.
My greatest achievement in da game gotta b beating all the bozja duels (without flare cheese). Gonna b honest it took me an entire summer break to get through that shit cause I wanted hard content that didn't involve ppl (yuck). I mean I would say those fights rly helped me become the better player I am today, but holy nobody should actually try to finish these duels without cheese. The way they're designed is great only for the spectators and not the challenger at all bruh. But now after finishing like 2 fights from each raid tier I'm starting to prog uwu pf (thanks to ur future vid) since I got a better look on pf. But yeah, I hope the next adventure foray content has duels but not with the bullshit that bozja and zadnor makes u go through. Nice vid btw
I had some similar experiences even as someone who's never played an MMO before. Started the game for the first time on free trial and couldn't get past the post-ARR msq as long as it was. I bought the game, expecting to go straight into heavenward and get to try astrologian, which looked like the most visually interesting job, and when I was stuck with more mediocre story and no astrologian I stopped playing. Second time around, half a year or so later I come back to start the story anew with an msq tracker spreadsheet and can not only see how far I am to heavenward, which helped a lot with motivating me to continue, but also I knew what to expect. Didn't buy the game until I was done with post-heavensward and at that point all I wanted to do was continue. The alliance raids were very strange to me, way too much visual clutter, but by literally the second one, syrcus tower, I found myself really enjoying them. It kind of hooked me and made me realize the potential of really quality raids and dungeons. Then stormblood alliance raids literally left my jaw agape, they're just that good.
based omega zero pfp great video though, glad you stuck with the game and nice to see your perspective on it ^^ also def agree with it being relaxing to gather in the diadem LOL
Haven’t finished the video yet but PLEASE try Eureka and do BA. You’d love it. Edit im glad you plan on doing it! Ultimates are super fun too. Clearing TEA I’m most proud of. Goals clear DSR and TOP.
I will say that P8S (the current "final" Savage raid fight) is possibly my favorite fight in the entire game. I love pretty much every single mechanic and unlike many other fights it doesn't allow you to mindlessly autopilot every attempt once you know how it works.
completing e5s till e8s was my most memorable one. I challenged myself to rush these raids through pf and it was the best experience and of course, horrendous I've ever had!
Playing since ARR and crafting was the hook. It isn't just open a menu and play an animation. So every milestone and thing I made felt like it was actually made by me.
When trying out new casters you mentioned red mage because movement was interesting to you, I would advise going for Summoner as well as they only really have 2-3 cast bars per rotation at 90! It plays a lot like a physical ranged like dancer other than those.
You know what, your whole start of picking up the game, dropping it because of casting speed (I too wanted to be a mage when I first started) picked it back up on a dragoon and finished ARR and he is currently sitting right where the cinematic leaves you after the story. I'm currently going through a bout of depression and can't find anything to help distract me and came across this video this morning and related to much with you. I'll possibly be giving it my 3rd go around here in the next couple days.
I rushed the content at the end of 2021 - 2022 for Endwalker after all the hype around the game finally got to me. I bumrushed the content to Endwalker, and immediately after "finishing" the Main Story, I quit. I came back about 3-4 months ago and made a new character. This time I'm putting no pressure on getting to the end and just enjoying the experience. Its a much more enjoyable experience (not to say I didn't enjoy my first playthrough), but without the self imposed pressure I don't think I will burn out.
started playing just after heavensward but had the exact same thoughts switching from black mage at 50 to red mage. i was finally able to move and the game became so much more fun
If you really enjoyed first day of the patch normal raid and trial and maybe even extreme trial, you might really enjoy Savage blind prog. You should give it a try, it's really fun to figure out mechanics and eventually beat the boss all by yourselves. Of course the group has to fit though. As with ultimates, dont be shy of trying for example UWU in Partyfinder. After trying your tippy toes in it, you won't feel that much of a anxiety burden anymore and you might really enjoy doing them. There are also no prerequisites to be met, unlike with Savage in the current tier where people want you to have a specific amount of gear after a while.
I started off as an archer - because I heard it was the easiest to get into the game. Later, having switched to RDM as my main job, when I finally maxed out Bard... whoo boy, its all a *lie* ! o.O Archer aka Bard is the busiest job in the entire game (sans ninja :P ) XD imo of course ^^ I maxed out all jobs, battle jobs and crafters/gatherers. The thing that surprised me most was that usually, in every other MMO, I liked playing different characters. I liked having not only another class/job/profession, but also another look, another purely visual movement set where different races were concerend. But not in FF14. I may have indulged in some Fantasia here and there but always stayed true to that first look from the beginning. It may be due to the fact, that you can have all jobs on one character. But I think its also that you grow more attached to that heap of pixels... much more than in other games. You are that character, that version of the WoL. I think, this also connects the community and makes it what it is. Whats the most fun? ... Good question. A lot of things, actually... Many things, like the slow paced story or slow gcd, were what made me like the game: other MMOs, that have you run from action to action, got me burned out so fast (looking at you, GW2...). Not so here. I have played for almost three years without any break so far. And even if I finish everything I want, there is still so much left for me to do whenever I want to :) Good times.
It took me a couple times to stick to ffxiv as well. And I think once I hit Omega raids I was hooked. By far some of my fave content. It was so fun. Eden is also my fave raids.
very similar experience i was a d2 raider i player arr as a bard dropped it came back as a different class and got hooked but now i have mained monk . and enjoy it but i dropped ffxiv again went back and played old final fantasies specifically 8.I came back to ffxiv leveled gun breaker and fell in love all over again here i am now looking for a good raid group maybe awaiting 6.3
You know after giving the game a fourth chance, I understood the charm of it. Still not all that invested in the story, but after playing months of nothing but pvp shooter games, it was nice to find a more friendly and social games with a bunch of side content.
My favorite moment was probably the Eden Titian fight. I was Sch and somehow that fight just clicked with me. Usually I’m pretty bad at dodging mechanics but for that fight things just worked out. I even had the chance to save our run with a LB3! For the future I hope to level my gathering classes all the way up. And try to get into the mount farming side of things. I’m still back trying to get all the dogs…
I started playing ffxiv during the Covid break in between my freshman and sophomore year of highschool (literally like 2 days before 5.3 was released) and endwalker came out during my junior year so I was really excited to hear that someone else around my age is playing this game. Do you have any advice for getting your friends into this game? Because it feels like pulling teeth sometimes even for the few friends I have that out into mmos (one who’s a big destiny 2 fan btw) and I know they would love it if they could just give it the time it needs
I've noticed it can be pretty damn hard to get friends into this game lmao. My best advice is to help them through as much of the early game experience as you can, since its definitely the least fun. If they can make it through ARR I'm sure they'll get hooked.
If it feels like pulling teeth there just not into wanting to play it and just drop it. If they want to try it out they will, even some people that like the genre won’t like every game in the genre. I have the game downloaded now to try out the free trial but I don’t think I’m going to get into it. I recently just started playing guild wars 2 as well which I’ll probably also drop in a bit. I’m waiting for a good NEW mmo like I want to play without 99% of the player base already having been max level for years now. I wanna progress through from the beginning with everyone else. Waiting for ashes of creation and more so throne and liberty since it should be coming out this year where as ashes of creation who the hell knows when that will finally come out.
I still wish they would make a classic heavensward-era server, the stuff they removed was dope as fuck, parry build DRK was the most fun I ever had in this game and stance dancing gave me a hard-on, but now I am to stay flacid for eternity. they neutered the tanks, they neutered the healers, they neutered the skill. I just want to have my fun and the slight diversity of build the game used to have before stormblood.
I bought D1 in day 1 but I only managed to play it 3 months before D2 launch, because of FFXIV. When I first entered Crystal Tower I decided FFXIV would be my main game.
After playing PSO2, BDO, ESO, SWTOR and GW2 in recent times, FFXIV is arguably the best mmo (currently) for me personally. However, I dislike not having a centralized material inventory for crafting and the fact that we have to "rent" additional retainers...also there are like nearly 150 quests for each expansion and for new players this is utterly frustrating to plough through, especially when u are desperately trying to gain access to the next expansion zones to gather materials...
most proudest moment in ff14 huh parsing rank 1 in The Weapon Refrain Ultimate as black mage in 6.28 :^) (yeah I guess that is somewhat lame but it is what it is). most fun exp: -raiding savage for the very first time and clearing the tier -discovering the Namazu Beast Tribe and wish they would be the actual xiv mascot. -housing, probably my very first rabbithole I fell into when I got mine, and also the sole reason I got burned out pepega fast of this game for a while. -actually playing black mage :^) (yes and I mean it) future goals: -finding a static that I can raid long term and doesn't get disbanded because of issues :< -raiding with a xiv celebrity one day (Xeno, Arthars, Tenssan or Zepla, you get the idea) -touch some grass in case I sink in to much time into the game yet again.
I've start a fews years ago with a BLM and can confirm it was hard on endgame content for the casting time hahahaha.. Afterwards I've pushed a RDM and DRK and now i'm having so much fun... honestly...
If you're still have some interest playing older FF games, I'd highly recommend FF4 (the pixel remaster version) as a lot of the main and post EW plot are call backs to it. Also FFX-HD on PS4 was my first game in the Final Fantasy series and I absolutely loved it. It's among my top 3 favorites, tied with FF9, with 14 of course being my favorite.
I actually picked up ff4 on sale a while back for exactly that reason but haven't quite gotten around to it yet. Will definitely play it at some point though!
"Its just one of those games that i just want to talk about it and mention it even im not playing it" Yeah, you are a FFXIV player to the core now. I started nearly the end of HW and never stopped my sub since. To this day, the best money i've ever used in any game.
I love and at the same time hate Blackmage. It's one of the most tactical jobs when it comes to any encounter where you are not supposed to be hit...which is also what I hate about it. You get so boned when you fail a mechanic, your own rotation is very dynamic and if you have to move also it makes it even harder. It's fun but also frustrating. I get the frustration, for p1-4 I played blackmage, loved it but it also turned me off of the job I switched to Dancer for p5-8 and am thinking about switching to healer for next raid tier(either AST or WHM).
Homie, fisher is the fastest gatherer to level by orders of magnitude. Go on ocean fishing trips when they pop up and you'll hit cap in a few hours worth of playtime.
If you want to play a caster but hate cast times you should play smn. Since EW they changed drastically how it plays so it plays very similar to physical range class (like dnc) with only 3 actual casting per minute. Couple that with the fact you summon the primals and their attacks are flashy its sure to give you that casting dopamine
I don't even know what could be done to improve a real reborn so it doesn't scare away so many players, so i hate to complain, but that's the hardest part for everyone to go trough
I wish there were a way in Duty Finder to separate people who just want to run through to grind from beginners who do their first run. Then you wouldn't have to wait for a new patch to get a fresh experience with new mechanics. I'm a beginner and I'm not even through ARR, and I'm about to drop the game, because I hate getting grouped with pros who have already left half the map behind before I can say hello. And even if they take the time, getting dragged along with a pro is not the same as learning together with other players who are new to the content.
When I queue up for dailies and wind up with newbies, I try to gauge how much they know, give them tips to help them improve (like hey, this skill gives you a breather to heal if you need it, or that is a ability to save for emergencies because of what it does, for example) and try to take it slow until I know they can handle bigger pulls, because I've been where they are
Oh if alliance raids aren’t what you really like you should try out the old grinding zone for shadowbringers and storm blood they are really fun and interesting
All my friends dropped FFXIV as well cuz of the payment shit where you need to buy the game and then buy days…. But only one of my friends still play the game we play together sometimes but it’s mostly me just grinding through these expansions I’m currently level 81 and ik close to getting to shadow bringers. I main summoner :D
It kind of seems like if you didn't try XIV as one job, dislike it and almost nearly kill your enjoyment of the game only to play something else and for it to "click" and make the whole game a joyful experience, then did you really try XIV? My spouse and I started XIV right after the launch of Endwalker and it's been our main game ever since (almost 1500 hours in now) my favorite memories are probably of those early game trials. Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Shiva, Leviathan, Ramuh. I just really loved the choreographed boss fights and the incredible sound tracks accompanying them. I think our shared goal for 2023 has been (now that we're caught up on the MSQ) to start doing harder content. Ex and Savage and maybe even dip toes into Ultimates.
When we leave a game on good terms it's a good sign that the game is a good game a great game in fact. Sure burn out is unavoidable, but some stop playing FF14 as a choice. for example they want to play another game like when Elden Ring came out or sm. And even if it is burn out, you still always get an itch to come back.
Huh, alliance raids being the hook that got you is a unique perspective! I'm glad you found something that clicked!
Actually the first time I found the game clicked is the alliance raid too. I am a big fan of FF3 remake and playing with 23 other players in such a stage is an unique experience, and I love the interactive mechanics in the raid.
It's not unique at all. Alliance raids are awesome
Got hooked by Alliance raids too. Wish there were more of them, cause I got really bored of the ones we have rn :(
@@pixection9046 we just had a new one released on Tuesday??
Ive spent an unhealthy amount of time farming all the glams/minions from alliance raids.. and i still haven't gotten bored

It's basically pokemon: fish edition.
fishing is the rank 1 job for me. i maxed it out to 90 when EW came out and i was still doing my stormblood MSQ
The thing I love about this game is that it allows me to take a break, and come back every patch with no worry.

@@pb5335 Why would you want a house anyways if you want to take a break for longer than 30 days?
For me a Realm Reborn was great!
Yes still lol
(Except DoH and DoL)
Sorry, this wasn’t short at all my bad. 😅 See you on the next video! 👍 Take care. ❤️
HW made me quit for six months lol....I call it HW-- the expansion that just wouldn't end
I think the level 50 relics are less boring if you do them with a friend. I have 2 remaining, only doing them as I ran out of content for now, but there is no achievements for them all unlike the 60's and some others. Played since Sept 2010, 1.0 launch and I love seeing how new players are playing the game.
absolutely best way to kill a boring grind is to do it while socializing wit a friend.
Black Mage is definitely kind of a bad idea if you can't stand being a turret.
Red Mage feels more like a raged dps rather than a caster, and that's why I like it personally. Very mobile, with very satisfying SFX!
Yes red mage just really hits me best. It is very fast “casts”, you can help raise, and move around a lot. Also red mage LB3 is chefs kiss.
@@soratatami9070 VerFlashbang!
That is so relatable
Lovely video, I agree with the take. When I part away with FFXIV it is always on good terms, and I don't tend to unsub when I part because I want to be able just to login if given the chance. Still need to do the ARR and shadowbringer relics, but I will take it slow.
Dude, well spoken, and very informative. Also very good narration.
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed.
Even up to the Ramuh Ex being the only synced extreme i did while levelling - i even won the mount :)
What became my bane was my collectors tendency. I am still sitting on Shinryu farming on ex for the mount. After getting abandoned by groups claiming they will stay until all have the mount and then break up before I get mine :(
Definitely this game has an overall positive streak. But there certainly are some pain points.
Glad you enjoyed!
Nothing stopping me from playing D2 and FFXIV
All I have to say is welcome to the FFXIV fam and I am glad you found a home with us 😁
My most beloved Memories are also usually big Turnarounds within the whole Game.
-Clearing Coils back when they were relevant with 7 other ppl who had no idea about raiding and how the Stuff work. Also with a horrible Ping because the physical Server forbEU were in the US back then.
-Experiencing the Start of the first Expansion
-witnessed a Raidtier nearly destroying the whole Raidcommunity.
Thumbnail is one hell of a transition timeline
Destiny 2 was also a factor for me, but 90% of my gaming life was warframe, and it was really struggling to hold me going into 2019 with Covid and trying to finish that year of college, as well as sparse updates I didn’t care about, and WoW wasn’t gonna grab me with the allegations and shadowlands being a follow-up mess to BFA
A friend that had also fallen off warframe in favor of 14 suggested the game to me, he’d been playing it on and off for months by that point
Started with the free trial, the old one that went to 35, and the rest is history, been playing nonstop since and I love it with all my heart, here’s to 2023 and 7.0
My most proud moment was for sure in Zadnor [Shadowbringer second relic weapon zone];
After working for weeks non-stop on collection all notes and having to farm attempts on duels (which I ony was able to win one... The Second Leon fight in Zadnor [Just the hardest *cries*])
I got the mount needing all notes and I was so proud cause it was all a single player achievement.
Someday... I'll go back to clear all duels qwq
I also play on and off FFXIV and thats what makes it great to me, its a game that clearly rewards my time spent(and I dont have much of it to gaming) so I ccan come back every patch, play for a few weeks and then go on to another game (I keep my sub going tho, since its a way to support the game and helps when I want to do something on there)
One thing tho, if you dont like standing, even tho RDM has less of it than a BLM, Id recommend you check SMN out, with this rework its a great class, its simple, intuitive and has very little standing still casting(only when you`re on ifrit) and to me its the most confortable class to play atm (sadly I main DRK so still lots of buttons to press), plus summoning is cool!
Also, if you`re looking for things to play, totally check out the older FFs, FFVI has a REALLY awesome story , more mature than other FFs, FF3, 4 and 5 are really "a good adventure with friends", FF8 is a bit different and has one of the weaker casts, but overall great game, FFIX is a masterpiece, a real "classic" FF, but Id abstain from it since there are rumours of a remake, you1re already played 7 and X (the remake for 7 s also great btw) , XIII is a good linear story, like playing a book with a badass edgy MC, XII is kinda like an average MMO, lots of gameplay, little of story, lots of stuff to do
and if you feel like some old school, try FFXI, Im playing it atm and its great, granted I had to learn about addons to add some much needed UI QOL (like adding a controler hotbar like FFXIV, amongst other things) but it is a great game, different style of mmo tho, much more grind based, but it is still a Final Fantasy and still has the story of one.
What a journey man, that was an interesting story.
Mega Man & Bass music? A man of culture, I see.
For me Endwalker was also the first expansion I played while its current content and I really enjoyed leveling all jobs to 90. Now I can fully enjoy the game with everything else it has to offer like Gold Saucer or Mount farming.
"Took a break on good terms."
I feel like that's definitely what makes me enjoy FFXIV so much.
So happy you’re enjoying this masterpiece, also that you’ve found that the mass deaths on new raid days are the most fun in the game 😸😸
I played FFXIV from HW till Endwalker. Now, I'm coming slowly back to WoW.
„Im here for the alliance raids!“ nobody ever said that before in FFXIV 😂
"one day i decided to level all crafters to 90" felt that
Megaman and Bass music made me happy, thanks
based omega zero pfp
great video though, glad you stuck with the game and nice to see your perspective on it ^^
also def agree with it being relaxing to gather in the diadem LOL
Haven’t finished the video yet but PLEASE try Eureka and do BA. You’d love it. Edit im glad you plan on doing it! Ultimates are super fun too.
Clearing TEA I’m most proud of. Goals clear DSR and TOP.
I will say that P8S (the current "final" Savage raid fight) is possibly my favorite fight in the entire game. I love pretty much every single mechanic and unlike many other fights it doesn't allow you to mindlessly autopilot every attempt once you know how it works.
"except fishing"
*and I took that personally*
Everything each in moderation. It’s a good motto to enjoying all things and never be burned out.
completing e5s till e8s was my most memorable one.
I actually recently got summoner to 90! Def feels more like a phys ranged than a caster haha.
You started as a black mage. I did too. My condolences. I moved to monk quickly then red mage.
My favorite moments were the days when I used to hang out with my friends every day at a bar in the Goblet.
I volunteer for your ultimate group this year. Also, RDM best job!
feel you, raiding for the 1st time in ffxiv got me hooked beyond return xD
Later, having switched to RDM as my main job, when I finally maxed out Bard... whoo boy, its all a *lie* ! o.O Archer aka Bard is the busiest job in the entire game (sans ninja :P ) XD
imo of course ^^ I maxed out all jobs, battle jobs and crafters/gatherers.
You're gonna have a blast in Eureka.
It took me a couple times to stick to ffxiv as well. And I think once I hit Omega raids I was hooked. By far some of my fave content. It was so fun. Eden is also my fave raids.
What are my goals for 2023? Try to get to 6.5 before Dawntrail comes out. XD
Glad you enjoy the game.
very similar experience i was a d2 raider i player arr as a bard dropped it came back as a different class and got hooked but now i have mained monk . and enjoy it but i dropped ffxiv again went back and played old final fantasies specifically 8.I came back to ffxiv leveled gun breaker and fell in love all over again here i am now looking for a good raid group maybe awaiting 6.3
I’m still back trying to get all the dogs…
dude eden titan is like my favourite normal raid. Absolutely love that fight.
Judging by the thumbnail only i thought it would have been _"My Experience With HRT So Far"_
However, I dislike not having a centralized material inventory for crafting and the fact that we have to "rent" additional retainers...also there are like nearly 150 quests for each expansion and for new players this is utterly frustrating to plough through, especially when u are desperately trying to gain access to the next expansion zones to gather materials...
most proudest moment in ff14 huh
parsing rank 1 in The Weapon Refrain Ultimate as black mage in 6.28 :^) (yeah I guess that is somewhat lame but it is what it is).
most fun exp:
-raiding savage for the very first time and clearing the tier
-discovering the Namazu Beast Tribe and wish they would be the actual xiv mascot.
-housing, probably my very first rabbithole I fell into when I got mine, and also the sole reason I got burned out pepega fast of this game for a while.
-actually playing black mage :^) (yes and I mean it)
future goals:
-finding a static that I can raid long term and doesn't get disbanded because of issues :<
-raiding with a xiv celebrity one day (Xeno, Arthars, Tenssan or Zepla, you get the idea)
-touch some grass in case I sink in to much time into the game yet again.
I am right on the edge of finally jumping into ffxiv now that i have a ps5. Might be time.
I've start a fews years ago with a BLM and can confirm it was hard on endgame content for the casting time hahahaha.. Afterwards I've pushed a RDM and DRK and now i'm having so much fun... honestly...
I enjoyed Red Mage a lot, but I've been hooked on Sage since Endwalker.
Ultimates are best thing i ever done in the game, no doubt. Good luck!
FF14 is my home, I always comeback from my breaks from the game :)
"Its just one of those games that i just want to talk about it and mention it even im not playing it"
Yeah, you are a FFXIV player to the core now.
I get the frustration, for p1-4 I played blackmage, loved it but it also turned me off of the job
I switched to Dancer for p5-8 and am thinking about switching to healer for next raid tier(either AST or WHM).
Homie, fisher is the fastest gatherer to level by orders of magnitude. Go on ocean fishing trips when they pop up and you'll hit cap in a few hours worth of playtime.
oh.., you haven't tried extreme trials yet, .. definitely worth playing / farming for mounts (and gud place to practise alt classes at 1st)
Red Mage is the perfect caster for me due to movement and utility
If you want to play a caster but hate cast times you should play smn. Since EW they changed drastically how it plays so it plays very similar to physical range class (like dnc) with only 3 actual casting per minute. Couple that with the fact you summon the primals and their attacks are flashy its sure to give you that casting dopamine
6:53 wow I was tripen off tha 50 I saw on Saturday lol
The first time I felt a big accomplishment in 14 was when I got the rathalos mount lol
4:08 do the coils raids and tell me that alliance raids are "just leaps and bounds better" than everything else in ARR lol..
Red mage is great fun after lvl 55 or so. Do recommend :)
Been thinking bout coming back. Idk tho. I need to finish end walker.
welcome to "day 1 raiding"^^
When we leave a game on good terms it's a good sign that the game is a good game a great game in fact. Sure burn out is unavoidable, but some stop playing FF14 as a choice. for example they want to play another game like when Elden Ring came out or sm. And even if it is burn out, you still always get an itch to come back.
