Dane is such a legend. Knew him when he was still a kid going to uni in Perth and playing with a great band called K. It's funny when I would tell him how amazing his set was back then, his response was exactly the same in this video in response to the interviewer. He really is such a humble dude. Great to see his character hasn't changed at all. Very proud of him indeed!
The wife and I were at that first "official" gig in Denver (at the Lone Tree Arts Center) when they announced from the stage that Dane was a permanent member and it was clear from the get-go that this was a good fit! My disappointment at not seeing Felix Pastorius lasted all of 1/2 a song, then later Dane played a solo piece and that was that! I feel really privileged to have been there. Dude's a beast of a player and I wish nothing but good things for these guys going forward.
So humble and what an incredible bassist! No better match for the YellowJackets save for our Jimmy Haslip whom we so dearly miss. Not only can you see his virtuosity of the bass but his humility and lack of arrogance that only the great musicians display! What an example for all other musicians.
Attend that first gig, actually Lone Tree CO. Also attended their last gig before COVID-19 shut down (he was channeling Jaco) and first gig after Covid where he eas trying out fretless. Amazing addition to the band, new needed energy. Thanks for the interview. Even Song on Jackets XL Album by WDR Big Band and Yellowjackets is my favorite recording showcasing Dane.

A brilliant bass player and an all round amazing human being. Hard to believe that it's coming up to almost a decade since Dane joined the Yellowjackets and has proven to be a fantastic addition to the band. They are truly blessed to have him on board. Absolutely love this guy
I love this story, how he came to be in the band. Just goes to show, "6 degrees" n' all that, Perth-boy does good ! I got to meet Will (Kennedy) in Byron when he came out with Lee Ritenour during his 'sabbatical' from The Jackets. I asked him why he left, he explained, then nek munut, he was BACK... yeehar !
Great interview! Dane is a terrific addition to the Yellowjackets, I need to see them again when they perform next in SoCal. He sounds great with that bass too - NYBW basses have so much Tone... It’s interesting that his dad was a drummer and Dane started on drums before switching to bass; because this was also the case with Jaco.

I have just witnessed another astounding performance by Dane during the Yellowjackets tour (Zeferreli's in Ambleside UK) and he really does complement and add to this wonderful group. Such a nice guy too. His solo piece in the second half of the set was improvised using loops. Didn't have a name but I hope it will be on the next album.
Musicians will tell you that the YJs play the most difficult stuff out there. Dane plays at this highest level and is now (2023) the best player in the world.
Just saw Yellowjackets play here in Stockholm. Totally amazing, and Dane really displayed his musicianship. Tone, phrasing, attitude and emotion. Really creative and intuitive player. New favorite for sure.

void were a legendary band in perth. used to go see them for free Thursday nights at the llama bar for years. always knew how lucky I was.
