- On today's Technique Tuesday let's talk about a technique from one of the best female MMA fighters and kick boxers in the world, Valentina Shevchenko. She was able to successfully land this attack against another one of the best strikers in the game today, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Have to say, I really appreciate Wonderboy's videos. Finally, after years using sidekicks just to push people away, I finally was able to use kicks to inflict some damage. Last week I was able to land a counter roundhouse kick while sparring, which stopped my sparring partner's momentum and created an opening for a series of punch. Thank you Wonderboy.
that's great man, I'm in that stage where my sidekicks are just effective enough to get distance and confuse opponents while switching stances lol I want to get to the point where I can inflict damage with them

Love it! In Olympic / Kukkiwon TKD we call that style of kicking a Repeating Kick / Geodeup Chagi. This particular version would be Low Turn Kick → Repeating High Side Kick (Arae Dollyeo Chagi → Geodeup Yeop Chagi). Your videos and insights are fantastic!

Man I love this guy and his dad. Real American karate guys competing at an elite level in UFC. I know that sounds like a contradiction but they have proved alot of things.

I study Shotokan here in Dallas, Tx and hip flexibility and power are the most important with 90% of kicks. Resistance bands help a ton with power . Great vid, very cool change up. Have not been taught this until now.

I would have never imagined these kicks would work in a full contact scenario (least of all MMA, where a weak kick could result in getting taken down) until I saw guys like Thompson fight some of the toughest guys in the sport with his long-range gameplan. Even when the kicks don't land they really get the opponent thinking about other things, opening up opportunities for Wonderboy's crisp counter punches.
