      You know what Harbaugh could do? Put a team that plays football with some heart on the field for more than 2 quarters a year, win a close game, win on the road or compete in the Top 10 every year when he has had the 6th, 6th, 20th, 8th and 8th best recruiting classes.

      Donald Alexander Michigan hasn’t been on the level of the teams you mentioned since the 40’s and the only reason they even have more wins against OSU is because UM won the first 18 meet ups. OSU owns the record since the last 100 years. The delusions of Michigan fans as to what their program is has to be the most frustrating thing, they’re a great program but they’re not Elite.

      @RodEJr 5 років тому +23

      Love Klatt -- BUT -- he ignores the fact that CFB used to only play 10, then 11 regular season games back in the day. No conference title games ever until recently, and definitely no national title game *after* the bowl game.== Winning % is the better relevant stat if you want to compare coaches' records across eras. ==

    • @kelleyboy3

      rodejryou great point, winning % is far more important in terms of comparing team success than total wins per season.

    • @GCDissapointment
      @GCDissapointment 5 років тому +1

      @@RodEJr True. Unfortunately, even if you go by that measure, OSU's all-time win % is only slightly less than Michigan's, whose record is padded by the success they way back in early 20th century. In the last 18 seasons, Michigan has finished with a better record than Ohio State 3 times, 4 if you wanna count OSU's vacated 2010 season.

    • @RodEJr
      @RodEJr 5 років тому +5

      DG: But my point was really referring to Michigan records of Jim H. (@ 73% winning percentage & avg. losing *more* than 3x per 13 game season) vs. Bo Schembechler (@ 80% & losing barely over 2x per 12 game season.) Big10 records have Jim H. @ 73% with >2 losses/year vs. Bo @ 85% and literally barely over just 1 loss per year. {Just 24 conference losses in 21 seasons!} Colin & Klatt suggesting that Jim H. is equivalently successful to Bo as Wolverine coach simply because he racks up more "double-digit" winning seasons seems like a weak argument to me.

That's the issue I have. Michigan has everything that they need to be a championship level program. However, EVERY year they get out recruited by the top programs and out coached in the big games. Anyone who EXPECTS their program to do what Alabama and OSU have done the last decade or so (and even Clemson the last few years) is delusional and plays too many video games where they think that being undefeated and champions every year is "the norm". Congrats, you're so delusional that when you reach the top of the mountain, you view it as just "meh". So you can never exceed expectations, you can never actually be happy. It's just "meh, we're where we should be" if you win the title or "failure" if you don't. Way to go.

But as of now, people want to bash him for not winning the big games. What's he not done? Hes traded wins back and forth with a good coached team by james Franklin (penn state) hes turned the tide against msu back to Michigan's favor of recent years. You cant fault Jim in bowl games that the kids may or may not be willing to really play in when they are meaningless. Yes I've questioned some of his coaching staff. Namely the josh gattis. But they looked better against penn state. Don brown needs to adapt more and not leave corners by themselves.

    I was a freshman at Michigan the first year Harbaugh was the head coach. I have been to every single home game, MSU, OSU, and bowl game since then. I have been watching a lot of Michigan football and following it closely. This conversations was very similar to one's I have had with other students. The one other addition I would make is that we have achieved at that sort of level in the past. If you look at some of the teams from the 1900s and 1910s, Michigan was at that level. Even through the 40s Michigan still did extremely well. If Michigan had not had that strong of a first 50 years to give us all those national championships and number 1 all time wins and top 5 win percentage, and if OSU was not on their historic run, Harbaugh would be praised. Very few people at the university want to see Harbaugh go. If he does go, we're not going to get anyone better.

      This entire segment was basically a giant strawman. No one is criticizing Harbaugh because he hasn't challenged Saban and Dabo for national championships. He's being criticized because his offenses are garbage, he's never developed a QB, he has a terrible record against Ohio State and Michigan State, and he hasn't sniffed a divisional title let alone a conference title. This might be the most sense I've seen on this show, but I feel for Jim. And I'm still not sure what to make of it. He could be stuck in a younger brother spot,
    No matter what, he will always be 2nd best, but part of me wants to refuse to believe that because coaching is different these days, I dont think its coincidence that all best coaches are older and wiser experts. I feel like sometimes colleges jump the gun on firing sometimes. You know, Rome wasn't built in a day. Things have to roast for a while on low heat. I think what Michigan needs is a fresh new ....something. but I like Jim as leading this new Michigan.

      @hufferbillypaw 5 років тому +1

      Us Clemson fans have surely been spoiled. Most of us acknowledge just how unique and temporary this truly is. It is a great time to be aTiger indeed! 🐾🐾
      Now how do we get the rest of the college football fans striving to be in the mix to understand that you just chop wood until the tree finally comes down. Persistence, passion and culture will get you there. Don’t over react and throw the baby out with the bath water when you have disappointing seasons. Look for steady progress, growth and learning from the coaching staff. They have to be open and willing to change. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made and pride has to be swallowed.
      Look at UGA and Kirby. Kirby has to change his offensive philosophy and not be too stubborn. If he does that, he will have UGA there every year, just like Bama. While I am a Clemson fan/alumni, I love to see teams put it altogether. Even if they are not my Tigers. Who wants to win because everyone else sucks? That is not enjoyable.

    Most Michigan fans arent looking for a natty title as a priority. We are looking for wins against OSU and big ten titles. 0-4 against OSU (2 @ home, and 1 favored on the road!), haven't even traveled to Indianapolis (pretty sure never even 2nd on our side of the B1G). We want to at least be in the picture for the playoff most years. There were quite a few years of Bo that we would've been in the playoff or in the discussion, not to mention the numerous B1G titles he acquired + a winning record against arguably the greatest coach in OSU history...So klatt, is Jim REALLY at that level? No discipline, bonehead coaching decisions, fumbilitis, always coming out flat on the road. That badgers game it looked like the defense just gave up. Never seen that on any UM team. I've been watching since 83. Players transferring mid season. Players skipping bowl games. You have a third stringer that threw the best throw for a TD all year.

    FINALLY. Michigan's single Nat'l title is a split award. No outright championship in history. Harbaugh had to compete vs Urban Meyer who barely averaged 1 loss a yr. This is just like people thinking Charles Barkley wasn't an elite talent b/c he didn't win but in reality he competed in the Jordan Era where he dominated everyone. That's what Harbaugh is dealing with. He made Michigan relevant & respectable again. People need to stop acting like Michigan is a championship winning school. Bama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, FSU, OSU, and USC are the only schools who can use the word championship in recent (15 yrs) memory.

      Fred IV Nah. You will beat OSU one day under Harbaugh probably. Maybe not this year, but sometime. I think Harbaugh will stay until he has a shot at the National Title. Legit shot. • @michaelpfister1283
    @michaelpfister1283 5 років тому

    The reason Michigan is so great as a program is because they've been 9-3, 10-2 consistently for over 130 years, with a few off periods. Consistently good. That being said, Bo didn't win every game against OSU, or ND, but he won some of them. The win against Notre Dame this weekend felt good in a way I cannot as a Michigan fan really explain, nor really need to (Auburn, winning the Iron Bowl - same feeling). But it would be nice to beat OSU again. And if this team HAS finally found itself ... we may not win the B1G, or a championship, or a Rose Bowl. But beating OSU and ruining their chance to get a title? That would be almost as good.
