two types of player retention: - retention of freshmen of any star talent, getting growing pains, then going big runs when they are experienced veterans with multiple reps - retention of high value/NFL talent starters and backups while still being able to take in similar talent through recruiting. like Joel said #2 is what USC needs to be doing. and with the portal and NIL (USC has NIL) anything can happen. your roster can collapse within a weeks notice. and nowadays players always try to get to the winning programs before they even want to get to their dream program.
