- Hey guys! I'm back with another video! I know I said that I would have this out by Wednesday at the latest, but I ended up drowning in school work, so I finally managed to get this out today. Thank you all for your patience.
Today, I'm looking at characters in video games that were unknowingly made extremely powerful, to the point where it makes you wonder how the developers didn't notice the first time around. We're going on a power trip, boys. Enjoy!

...You listed Oddjob as "unintentional" despite the fact that he was _entirely_ intentional. The devs went on-record in very early interviews saying that "Using Oddjob is cheating, he's there so players who suck can play and still have a chance."
As someone who sucks at a lot of PvP games, I gotta pay respect to Rare for that
Pichu is there for the same reason but with the opposite path. Nerf the better player instead of buffing the weaker player

For a long time, Pichu is has not been considered the worst character in melee. Kirby and Bowser are far worse, most of kirby's throws can be escaped from merely be wiggling the control stick (which seems more unintentionally broken).
Yeah, I think Pichu still at least had some of Pikachu's strengths going on due to being a clone. Kirby was just straight up non-functional half the time (a stark contrast to Smash 64, the only game where Kirby was not just "good" but straight up top 3) and Bowser's characteristics in his laggy movement and attacks combined with his size work entirely against him. It's funny because he's at least been "okay" after his Smash 4 rework, meanwhile fellow heavy character Ganondorf was actually okay in Melee only to infamously end up bottom 3 (bottom 1 in Brawl and Ultimate) in every subsequent installment.
I coulda sworn you can also escape a few of them by pressing jump too
Kirby's grabs being escaped seems intentional, because the ones you can escape can all sewer slide off the edge, taking your opponent with you. They probably thought that was too broken.
And literally nobody is bringing up Game and Watch, a character is literally programmed incorrectly.

@@SECONDQUESTGame and Watch's model was somewhat copied from Dr. Mario's (I think?). TLDR G&W's shield literally doesn't cover his body. He also can't L-cancel any of his aerials, the only character in the game with that flaw.
There was a female character that was the same height as Oddjob. She was 1 of the extra characters that had a blank picture
I gotta wonder how many kids figured this out in the 90's and circumvented the "No Oddjob" rule with it
the character is civilian (the first one) and yes while she is shorter then average she isn't quite as short as oddjob

I remember when I tried playing fallout 4 I suck at FPSs so combat was a pain for me, and when I found Codsworth I thought sweet I found my quirky robot this is fun. It didn't even click that he had a chainsaw so when another combat started and he charged in revving up the blade I just stood there doing nothing but watching my butler mow down a mob like it was nothing

The phenomenon of Fighting Game DLC characters being INTENTIONALLY busted out the ass for like 3 - 4 months until patched (and the next busted character is released to replace them) is about as subtle as a brick to the head.

@@CharaTF2 In recent years it's been obvious they release them very broken to push sales then patch them down just in time for the next one. FighterZ had LOTS of examples. Mortal Kombat does it. TEKKEN does it.

Yeah. Sometimes I'm jumpscared by someone getting headshot when I didn't expect it. I don't even have to know that there are enemies. He'll just take out anyone instantly.

ED-E plus Boone is just an absolutely brutal combo. Though Raul with the Medicine Stick easily deletes even deathclaws.
There's another advantage that Oddjob has that wasn't mentioned: regardless of the mode, Oddjob always has a one hit kill weapon in the form of his hat.

I’ll give them this, MJs missions are more fun than the first game. But her being so insanely better than Spider-Man when dealing with the hunters is ridiculous. And she just eats tranq darts, while I’m pretty sure Miles gets hit by the same kind of dart and passes out. Like what lmfao

Homing projectiles that circle the map for like 20 seconds and you can have like 8 up at once.
Or his lightning spell which calls in lightning strikes (which stun and deal high damage) every 3 seconds for 30 seconds, and you can have like 4 of them up at once.

You forgot to mention you need to kill him twice because he gets revived with full health. He is pretty much a boss character.

Mary Jane was intentional, direct line from one of the people running the game was: "We need to make Mary Jane a capable Hero, and if She's overpowered? Ehh, I don't really care... People wanted us to cut down or remove the Mary Jane segments, but She's necessary for the story we want to tell."
He has not played Guilty Gear, he has no idea how bad things can really be.

Something that this video fails to mention about Harley Quinn is that in stealth, her ledge takedowns are instantaneous, are performed quickly, have almost no cooldown/endlag, and despite being classified as a "Loud Takedown," are actually silent and her only silent takedown (likely a glitch/oversight). Very, very useful in Endless Knight.

@@amberhernandez That's much better. But I think the existence of the sentence itself is still a problem. If most of the games are bad, then it directly, immediately follows that if one isn't, it excedes expectations.
He may have been able to phrase it better but it does communicate something specific. He is saying that the Shrek games that are good tend to be very good.
As opposed to a situation where shrek games are mostly bad except for some that are just ok.

pichu also benefited from the introduction of the rage mechanic, once you hit a certain amount of damage you get an attack bonus, which pichu can induce at will, never needing to be hit by an opponent.

There was another Bond game that came out in 2002 called Nightfire that also had a multiplayer mode... Oddjob was also one of the playable characters. They fixed his height... but they also gave him a unique throwable weapon, his hat, that was an instant kill. It wasn't even a one-time weapon, you just had to pick it up again and continue using it.
For context, some shotguns weren't even an instant kill in Nightfire's multiplayer, in fact the only two weapons in the game that were an INSTANT kill was The Golden Gun, which was locked behind a game mode, or Oddjob's hat.
Nightfire ruled. The last level was impossible but the multiplayer was one of the best on the PS2 in my opinion
The thing about Perfect Dark is that you were able to swap head and bodies in multiplayer. So you could offset the giant Elvis head for an even skinnier version of small Oddjob. Turning the game into am arms race of dwarfs in skintight gray suits duking it out.
Okay, the Oddjob thing isn't that big of a deal. You don't have to hold the ADS button to aim down. You can just aim down by pressing C-Down (assuming you're using 1.1 controls). And if you're using 1.2 controls, just press down on the analog stick. Again, not that hard.

I understand why this was left out because it doest quite match the spirit of the video, but in Perfect Dark you can mix and match heads & bodies. That means you can be a Datadyne security officer with an Elvis head like me, or you can have Elvis's tiny body with Daniel Carrington's slightly small head. Oddjob lives.

It'd be nice if he could actually explain some of these choices. I don't play fighting games, so I'm still lost on how Pichu was "unintentionally broken" in Smash Ultimate. I figured the first character he'd mention would be Ice Climbers, as they're ACTUALLY unintentionally broken in Melee.

ah yes, we all knew the Man-Jaw self insert from Spiderman would be on this list
A character that I feel would absolutely fit this list is Penta Penguin from Crash Team Racing (the original). The thing with Penta is that he was added as a last minute addition and has very weird things regarding him (he has some placeholder voice lines, has a random mask between Aku Aku and Uka Uka...). And while in the American version he's just a regular racer, in the Japanese and European versions he was incorrectly given the stats of Nitros Oxide, the final boss of the game who's not even playable in the PS1 version. This means that this silly penguin who only appeared in a cutscene in Crash 3 is the best racer to play as in the game if you're Japanese or European!

To be fair to Brawl tournaments, every one that did try banning Meta-Knight saw basically no attendance, so they stopped bothering to ban him. The majority of competitive players didn't WANT to play anyone else in that game.

Oddjob is also fun as hell in Nightfire since he has a throwable one hit kill hat that seems to be heat seeking. I loved throwing that thing across the snow gondola map.

I remember playing the Bioshock 2 multiplayer on Playstation 3, specifically the melee only golf-club mode. However, after leveling your character for a while you get a perk that doubles your melee damage. Which made you one-shot everyone in the golf-mode. After that info spread around the mode turned into a rush to be the first to land a hit and run along to the next enemy. All while the loser was stuck in the lobby waiting to spawn again. People quickly stopped playing it after that cause new players complained about it. Was an excellent place to farm for leveling tho.
seeing Mortal Kombat footage without white girl party music is really weird now
Upon release, Mesa in Warframe was stupidly broken as her ult was literally an aimbot with unlimited ammo that would kill ANYTHING in the players' vicinity, you didn't even have to see them on screen, if the enemy could see YOU, they were as good as dead.
She's been reworked and now you actually need to aim her ult but it still nukes any room she's in.
Freddy was getting wrecked the whole movie, but he did not lose the fight against Jason. In fact, it was part of the contractual agreement to have an ending where they both "win." Hence, the eye wink.

Once you turned off auto aim, and switched to yellow button aiming Oddjob was more of a liability with a slightly larger head hitbox because of his hat. No-one picked him twice.
Same happened with zoo tycoon 2 that put Chapultepec zoo in TIJUANA
all your typical body shots would be headshots. he was super easy to counter. at least with Jaws, people would have to go extra out of their way to get headshots.
With the Automatron DLC, you can transform Codsworth into a literal Terminator but with a chipper personality.
Woah woah woah. Batman isn't deadly. He never kills! Dropping somebody 20 feet to be hung by their ankles couldn't POSSIBLY kill somebody! Neither can booting them through a wall, off a building and down 8 stories to the ground. Batman doesn't kill!

Some things i would correct through - While Melee Pichu's self-damage doesn't help, it's actually just a minor weakness for the character - so much so that Pichu does fine in Ultimate despite having the same mechanic. The self-damage just isn't that much, and most of his strongest moves in melee (most notably Neutral Air) don't inflict self-damage.
The bigger issues imo (which were buffed in Ultimate) were bad range on his attacks (a weakness shared by Pikachu) and lackluster damage output and kill options (Which pikachu has with Up Smash for high% and Up Air for low%), as well as an absolutely atrocious tech-roll.
I'm not an Ultimate player, but IIRC Pichu had a very strong combo game and Forward-Tilt as a solid kill option before the nerfs which took away these weaknesses.

Imo the actual OP companion in fallout 4 is Curie!
Companions in fallout 4 scale with your player level, meaning when you level up your companion's hp gets a little larger. This happens to every companion except Curie.
Codsworth starts with 195 hp and has integrated armor values due to being a Mr. Handy.
Curie's started hp is a whopping 440 hp with integrated armor values like Codsworth. This means she starts with over double codsworth's hp at level 1.
By about level 40 codsworth still isn't catching up with only 345 hp, and at level 60 he just barely eeks out at 445 hp. But by that point you likely have unlocked part of her personal quest, where she asks you to help her find a body, meaning turn her into a synth. This change into synth does sacrifice her integrated armor but it does open her up to humanoid armors! It also boosts her hp to a whopping 670, which codsworth still won't hit even at level 100!
So not only can she do all the things codsworth does with the automaton dlc, she has the option to forgo her metal body and become a humanoid, and has insane amounts of hp throughout the entirety of your fallout 4 playthrough. (and you will likely reach the end of the story far before even hitting level 60)
Her downsides arent too crazy either, the quest can be tricky to start requiring you to leave and return to that vault a couple times before you can get curie, and her SPECIAL stats are a lot lower than Codsworth, rocking a 4 on everything except intelligence which is an 11. (But in my opinion, your follower's SPECIAL stats rarely affect much about the game)

The thing about Oddjob is, in one of the next 007 games, called "Nightfire", its multiplayer mode also had Oddjob as a playable character. In that game, he had a special weapon which only he can use. Once per stock (if I remember right), he could throw his hat which just instantly kills any enemy it touches. I think it also had slight homing capabilities.
I can't recall if he was also smaller in that game.
So he was somewhat broken in 2 games, not just one.
Ya I was just about to comment that myself. I swear that heat seeker missile of a hat could just be launched across the map to get cheap kills on your older brother lol

I think dogmeat is also worth a mention. Codsworth still nullifies Lone wanderer, and requires a dlc to hit that useful peak.
Dogmeat doesn't disable Lone Wanderer, one of the strongest perks, has a carry capacity of 150, due to a (at least in survival), bug where equipping any gear but welder's goggles on him (can have them, just need a bandana/collar too), and has his own perks to buff even further.
I've never used any companions in Fo4 after I learned that, everyone else felt useless by comparison, especially with vanilla companion aim, if we're specifying unmodded.
NEVER modify Codsworth or put even him in the Robot Workbench. Doing this removes the ability to equip him with the Bowler Hat, which while only increases Endurance by 1, is far better than having a walking tank.

Other OP characters in games:
-Brawl Meta Knight. Enough said.
-Fox in Melee has a 0-frame reflector and is insanely fast.
-Marth in Melee can grab a character across the entire screen due to a glitch.
-Gil in Street Fighter 3 is absurdly OP, able to use 3 supers rather than just one and all of them being broken, especially the 2nd and third ones. 2nd special is "seraphic wing" that is a full screen unlockable instakill and the 3rd special is "holy resurrection" which activates automatically when killed and FULLY REVIVES HIM WITH FULL HP.
-Goro and that horse guy in the original Mortal Kombat trilogy.
-Reverse HP+Surpassing Power+Ultima Blade in Bravely Default 2 being so OP that it can OKO every enemy in the game INCLUDING THE SUPERBOSS.
-The freelancer and beastmaster classes in BD2 also being incredibly OP with their class passives. Super easy to get maxed stats.
-Boiling Blood + Surpassing Power + Warrior Divine Art at 1 HP in Octopath 1 can do 99,999 damage guaranteed.
-Sorcerer Therion or Teresa + multiple fire or wind boosting weapons + compression DA + encore + surpassing power + Tier 3 fire/wind spell = TOTAL DEATH. (Octopath 1)
-Hikari in general in Octopath 2. Absolutely busted character.
-Any version of Donald in MUGEN, but especially Golden Donald, Dark Donald, and Chaos Donald.
-Any "cheapie" in MUGEN like A-Bomb, 2nd Death Star, Primeus/Gay Bahamut, Omega Tom Hanks, 2nd Death Star, and Crazy Catastrophe.
-Rex in Xenoblade 3 Future Redeemed. He does so much damage that he eats ALL the aggro and the tanks become useless because they can't gain more aggro than Rex.
-Mythra in Xenoblade 2. "Double spinning edge double spinning edge double spinning edge double..."
-The Signifier class in Xenoblade 3.
-Some heroes in Xenoblade 3 like Asherah and Grey.

MetaKnight was a special case
75% of compeditors thought he should be banned, and he was banned... but...
The top players were mostly MetaKnight
Tournaments wanted to attract top talent... but all the top talent was MetaKnight so they had to opent up their tournaments to MetaKnight even though the community agreed he was overpowered.
As time went on, it became obvious that if your tournament didn't have MetaKnight, the top names would boycott, and no money would be made... therefore, the only tournaments that could afford to ban MetaKnight had small payouts.
The lesson... if you are going to ban a character, you gotta do it early... before the mains dominate the leaderboards and make names for themselves. If you don't bring down the banhammer fast, the players with the unfair advantage will stack the deck in their favor.
