Hey guys! Yall are awesome. I wanted to chime in on the video game thing as I work in that industry. So in general...the reason for microtransactions isnt exclusively because companies just want to capitalize on players. Alot of it is the driven by the fact that players want MORE from every game. In order to provide that "more" for players, youve got hundreds of people working to get more content out. Those people need to eat and pay rent too. So while the main team is working on the "more," often lower effort things like cosmetics are sold to players because its new stuff players would want and it doesnt cost significant amounts of time on the dev end. This then brings in more more to continue the devs to create more content. Nobody is happy with straight from the box content anymore. They want more. Believe me, us devs arent big fans of having to do this stuff overall. We arent raking in the dollars and swimming in Scrooge McDuck piles of gold while laughing at the players. We are at our desks crunching to deliver things in hopes that players dont get too mad between their content drops because they will review bomb us to oblivion! Also...yeah its a can of worms that started with Bethesda and its never going to go away. Thankfully alot of companies are at least making it all cosmetic stuff and not Pay to Win as much anymore!
If you are headed to Disney, do your research. People have written books on getting the most out of the trip. The one tip I recall is charge the park early do the things, then flee for the heat of the day and recharge and then head back for the afternoon/evening
The price for the AoS 4 Box was already released because they are giving them away as part of a contest and they have to provide the exact value. They are giving away 10 of them. The 4th Ed Box costs 265.00 US.
What did you think Season 4 of Stranger Things was going to be, that it wasn't? It was exactly the same thing as Seasons 1-3... but the kids are more and more laughably approaching their 40's.
How is it that as soon as I start worrying about finally finishing an army there is a bunch of content to help me out??? The Great Grot in the Sky is truly watching over me!
No, in OPR you can hit someone on base contact, but if you charge agaisnt a unit with more than one model, your unit can hit any models from that unit up to 2" away.
I might be the odd one out but I have never cared for if I win or loose as long as I have a good time. But I have had wins that I did not enjoy due to a sore looser. Just my 5 cents...
I’m inordinately proud to have had another of my humble aperçus about the podcast quoted by Scott. With regard to today’s discussion, I offer another chipping medium for your consideration: a yeast-derived savoury spread from the UK known as Marmite, so famous for being equally loved and reviled that its name has become a synonym for any product or experience that strongly divides opinion, with no middle ground. Availability in the US may be an issue but I would imagine its adherents, particularly those with Canadian contacts, know of a source. An essentially identical product called Vegemite is a staple in Australia. For modelling purposes it works similarly to toothpaste though it is of a denser consistency. For this reason as well as taste it is also probably best applied - thinly - to toasted rather than untoasted bread, which it is likely to destroy. Combined with peanut butter it is capable of providing a culinary experience that only a true gourmand can appreciate. P.S. A gourmand may be defined as someone who knows the meaning of ‘aperçu.’
Jon if your coming to Florida any time in the next few months your gonna hate it. Its so hot and muggy this time of year. I recommend you wear light colors breathable fabrics and be prepared for the volent middle of the day thunderstorms that will last 20-45 minutes then look like nothing happened but be unbearably humid afterwords. Other than that i hope you enjoy the parks and your vacation.
Something ive done recently is get rid of the clutter. I dont need 300 paints around me and its really helped my work flow. I got the 3 army painter starter sets, (i filled in the gaps with the fanatics one as it didnt have purple). Ive found a process of put down the fanatic first, it has great coverage if a bit desaturated, then put down the corresponding speed paint, it tints the base layer, and adds shadow, I use the corresponding air paint due to its thinner consistency as a midtone/blend to cover any splotches from the speed paint. Then finally pure fanatic for the highlight.
I know exactly where you're head is at Jon. Last year I bought my first OLED TV (LG C3) and then went down the 4k rabbit hole and ended up getting the DP-UB820. It **is** worth it. The upscaling it can do on DVDs and 1080p Blu-Rays is so worth. However, your consideration of the Xbox for family reasons is a good compromise.
I picked up from Vince the ultimate army painting tip - Glazing flourescents. Jon talked about it with his terminators but when you use flourescents to glaze with, there’s something subtle yet undeniable about the saturation under any lighting. When I first started I was using flourescent colors like opaque layers and it was frustrating and looked yucky. Glazing is the way
talking about your rats, i did this with zombies recently. blotted a few colors on the pallet and just went to pound town on 20 zombies, didnt worry too much about color mixing, went BRIGHT in some places. i love them. next 20 gonna be the same method. this is all just the flesh, the clothes in many places is just gray contrast
I’ve been able to reactivate chipping medium over a week later. I usually try to ultra gloss the base layer before the chipping medium and let it cure for a bit
The Gloomhaven, Jotl, and Frosthaven games' narratives are not super interactive so while a story is there it isn't super in depth. The Haven games are definitely a lot more about playing the game and the mechanics, and unlocking stuff. The only board game I feel like I've ever enjoyed the story is Arkham Horror: The Card Game Also, Jaws of the Lion is sort of an intro game for Gloomhaven. In Gloomhaven you are trying to unlock more classes and scenarios and items. Jaws doesn't have a lot of that.
One thing to take into account is when did you roll well or poorly. Most likely over the course of the game your dice were pretty average overall. But if you spiked 6s when shooting bolters (that didnt matter) and rolled 1s for your lascannons, that makes a big difference.
Just got back from taking my kids to Disney world. Animal Kingdom was very enjoyable, Tons of walking. That Night Blossom drink from Pongu-Pongu at Avatar land was good AF.
To the idea of doing a army painting series, maybe lowering the time investment on the creators and the watchers side would make that a lot more fun. Scott already did experiment with 10mm Warmaster, doing a unit per video might be very possible and thinking of a new slightly unique thing to implement on those tiny warriors every short video might be cooking your creative juices just right.
I haven’t been able to paint a 2K list in one edition cycle! Standards are high like Jon which means for me the highest hobby achievement is still playing with my own fully painted army. After 12 years of hobbying, still chasing that dragon.🐉
Got to take a base sculpting and painting class taught by Bug King at Adepticon this year, and he was great. Super funny, incredibly talented, and had a lot of great info to share. Plus he made rock painting super fun.
Easy Necromunda fix - Let the winner of the priority roll decide who gets the marker. This is also more interesting because in doing so you are giving up the possible tie-breaker for the follow-on round.
Read Dune when I was 16 and loved it. Tried reading Dante much later and holy shit that is rough. If you want to read some OG emo/goth shit, you should give Goethes The Sorrows of Young Werther a read. It's a surprisingly nice read for a book from the 1700s.

Dude screw animal kingdom, go to Star wars land. Disneyland is Cali, Disney world is Florida. It's in Orlando, middle of the state, closer to the east coast.
Hi gang! Fun fact, my whole Votann and Alpha Legion armies have been painted slapchop style with AP speedpaints :3 They look great and paint up pretty quick!
My literature major ass has entered the chat and some translations of the Inferno are more readable than others. It’s a frickin burn book from mean girls. Very accessible.
Totally agree, most shows only work for a 2-3 season run unless they are fully unafraid of changing formula. Walking Dead fell flat mid season 3, Lost fell flat from end of Season 2 until midway through the final season, 24 was terrible about 1/2 through season 2... Episodic cartoons worked because you really only got about 15-18 minutes of actual story each episode, now that we are producing shows with more than 40 minutes of actual story and no commercials really exposes repetition, tropes, and cliches in some rather negative light.
My gaming group has the same issue with Jaws of the Lion - we made it to the 9th mission (plus one side mission) and it all sort of fizzled out. I'm sad, because I liked the story, but even though it's possible solo, it also feels weird playing someone else's characters.
When I was kid, Universal Studios Hollywood was king because it had legit sets from my childhood shows. But now, Harry Potter world in Florida is the best!
Scott, don't listen to Jon. Breaking bad is the best television series ever made and wholy worth watching all five seasons. It is thoroughly engrossing and takes turns that you don't expect. And this is the first time that I have ever been disappointed by a take from Jon. 😆
Yeah we all have our limit, where we spend X times repainting a part of a model and we're like "fuck this shit". It's important to know this limit to enjoy the hobby.
Do you have any recommendations for beginner course's to follow that teach everything like colour theory shade lighting as well, And courses that teach painting styles and which styles to tackle at which level (what level each style is at)
Me and a buddy from high school remade our old armies, and did a campaign together. They were leaning into their themes and not matched together well at all. I won a lot purely because he couldn’t kill big armor, so at first of course it was badass, but by the end I just felt bad. I wasn’t winning because I was playing better. I don’t like that kind of winning.
The changes in the Dune movie change in very many ways the outcome of Dune Messiah. Alia is crucial to be present as she sets the time between the destruction of the Atreides and the rise of Muad'dib. In the movie it happens in less than 9 months. In the movie it takes a couple of years for Paul to integrate into the Fremen culture and become one of them
I think if they start Messiah with Alia being the correct age (like she was born in between Dennis' Part 2 and Messiah), it'll all work out pretty well.
I did get tired of winning, and it was the dice. "Oh, I'll send this chaff to tie up his boss" and then my chaff just smashed him. Over and over again, sure over all the games the dice roll were average, it was just when they decided to be hot and cold. :D
Yo Ninjon, when you go to harry potter world. get the butterbeer ice cream in diagon alley. It everything you want butterbeer to be and more. The butterbeer at the three broomsticks is a let down
