I found this song when I quit drinking. Celebrating my 8 year sober anniversary later this week. This jam is magical, no matter what it is, if you're reading this, if you're listening to this, you got this
It makes me happy to know that some people are doing exactly what they should be doing for a living. Thank you all for picking up an instrument and daring to see what could happen.
Wow wow wow watched it at least 60 times and still get tears in my eyes , simply one of most incredible pieces of live music I have ever witnessed. Listen to the rhythm crested by the melody at 3m 45 s . What incredible musicians please go on tour and drop by Dublin, Ireland
I saw YoYoMa and the Goat Rope Rodeo at Meadowbrook Amphitheater in Auburn Hills, MI, an outdoor venue on a July summer evening in 2013. My best friend of over 50 years had just had a Bone Marrow transplant and was doing ok. Not long after the concert started, i had a call from his wife telling me that he had just died. This venue had seating in a shell and a grassy hill behind. I bought a couple of glasses of wine and sat on the hill by myself listening to this beautiful music thinking of my friend and they put me in a very peaceful place with the soothing eclectic music that is impossible to explain. I will never forget this night and will be forever grateful t them.
I fell into a very hard episode of dysthymia (a 'kind' of depression) during 2020, almost eight months fighting against this mental illness. There were times in which I couldn't control my thoughts and I honestly believed I was never going to be able to have a normal life again, that it didn't matter if I died tomorrow or in sixty years. I found this song on Spotify by chance, and I swear to god, it was the only song I could listen to in order to calm down, even during panic attacks and other things the medicine couldn't control itself. It was truly a blessing to have found your music, and I believe something or someone out there put you all together to bring joy and heal. Yesterday I took my last pill of antidepressants, and gathered the bravery to leave this comment, as my treatment is finally over. This may never get to you, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me getting stronger at times that I was hanging by a thread. Thank you so much for devoting yourselves to music so people like me can find a ray of hope in these when life seems pointless. Thank you, thank you so much.
Sending lots of love ♥️♥️♥️ 2020 has been such a terrible year, but I’m so proud of you for making it through and reaching the end of your treatment. Thank you for summoning the courage to put this out there and carrying on when things got too hard. You’re incredible and I love you so much. ~ A stranger on the internet, who also looks to music for joy and comfort in such a shitty world.
WOW. God bless you and your complete honesty. Music does something to the soul that is hard to verbalize. It's wonderful that this does that for you. Everytime I watch this, or listen to my CD version, I'm transported to heaven 💖
I agree it is the kind of music that touches your soul. I call it transcendental…it makes me happy to listen to it. I’m glad to see it has helped you in your illness, that is truly miraculous.
I love how you can tell each of them are so in love with their music and their art. They are all playing with such passion and joy. How euphoric this must have felt
I love your comment. I've had so many things going wrong in my life... really, really wrong... but I listen to this! I breathe in...I exhale...I breathe in...I focus on the good in this music... and I'm able to feel better.
I agree. I listened to this for the first time in a while yesterday, and I fell in to a trance listening to the upright bass. I never paid it enough mind, but it was beautiful!
"Attaboy" can bring me joy even on my darkest days. Watching them take such joy in the music and in each other's company makes the world a bit brighter.
i dont understand why people say this is real music, theirs no fake music, music is an expression of emotion, a language, therefor anything can be music. please understand everyone has there own preference, and also learn to appreciate all music. Rap for instance is just a poem thats sung by music artists. this is why i can appreciate all music. hope i thought you something ;)
Also, I was lucky enough a summer ago to work closely to yo yo ma and he is nothing short of one of the nicest and most genuine people on this planet. just being around his energy made me a better musician
Oh, my stars! I bought 'The Goat Rodeo Sessions' immediately after the album was released, as I have been a dedicated fan of all four of these players for many, many years. But until seeing this video performance I did not realize how perfectly synchronized and tuned-in to the same emotional frequency they all are, while at the same time playing such very different parts. My heart is in my throat, and I am finding it hard to express my feelings just now for this performative achievement. Bravo, gentlemen.! Your talents are much appreciated.
This is what happens when you take 4 musicians at the top of their respective instruments, each a legend in there own right and set them in a room together, Goat Rodeo is pure magic. Im so happy to have seen Chris in concert and he is a wizard on the Mando
The most hilarious aspect...is that I am fairly certain they were not making a greatest of all time joke. They were literally referencing a "goat rodeo" concept. Meaning: organized chaos.
Yeah, I feel pretty sure about two things: no one on earth can play the mandolin like Chris Thile-not even close-and no one on any instrument is as dominant on that instrument as Thile is on the mandolin. I play the mandolin, and the most brutal part about Thile is he’s barely older than I am! I never know, after watching him play, whether I want to practice like mad or just never play again, lol.
@@eashton42 I feel that way about the elite guitarists of the world, and specifically the masters of modern acoustic. Have you seen Antoine Dufour or Luca Stricagnoli? At the Miller outdoor theater here in Houston there is a small hill. I was five and my three older brothers were flying kites. Afterwards they said let’s run down the hill. I started running then I realized, “I can’t stop.” My brothers saw I was scared when I fell down then they all pretended to roll down the hill and fall again and again. It's a deep drive that runs through my soul. The sounds of music running through your soul. Having no boundaries on limits. Just freedom endless wild freedom. This music and these people have brought a reminder of my endless passion. A reminder that my soul is an endless adventure and you are my background music. Guiding me on every step. Thank you.

The concept in these Goat Rodeo Sessions is so intriguing! It's simple and straightforward in one moment, complex and intricate in the next; it highlights all 4 instruments in different ways at different times, and none of the players are ever fighting for attention; it's classical and it's bluegrass and it's Irish folk and it's Americana...and it's all just so amazing!
My music teacher (Jason Truby of POD and Living Sacrifice) played this whole album in class on Monday, and all of us loved it! He said if they're ever in our area, the class will be going to see them. They're crazy good!
Good Lord , how wonderful this ‘sound ‘ is …..what music making is being done ! Any where that Yo Yo Ma goes is classic with me ! So darn great and beautiful !!!!!

I never watch Colbert, but I caught the tail-end of his show and saw Yo-Yo Ma making magic with these musicians. This is inexpressibly good music, and I feel happy (in a weirdly upbeat pensive way) when I listen to it. If this doesn't have 100,000 more views by the end of the week, I think I'll lose a little more faith in my fellow human beings.

when the cello comes back in with that theme around 4:20 i just about die of happiness.
