  • Joondalup Driving Test Essentials - Check Your Mirror !
    Sorrry, this is a 10 minute video - much longer than the goldfish-like attention span of a typical teenager. But then again, many typical teenagers fail their driving test because they don't put in the work beforehand. Driving requires concentration, patience and attention to detail - so please do yourself a favour and sit through the full 10 minutes of this video and you'll get to learn a lot about the required level of observation required for driving.
    Check your mirror!! These rear view mirror checks are vital if you want to pass your road test. This video is a visual description of how often you should perform mirror checking when driving. Having a constant awareness of what is happening all around you is a key aspect of any driving test routes. You need to check your mirrors correctly, regularly and at appropriate times if you want to satisfy the driving test standard and pass first time!
    Recorded in Joondalup, Western Australia.

    Hi David, I am so happy I passed my PDA on 7 Dec at Joondalup Licencing Centre. I watched all your videos after I failed my test a few times. But i never give up. I am 64, may be the oldest P plater in Australia. But no one is too old to learn isn't?
    A day before my test I watched again ur new video about using mirrors. Then I practice again. I remember ur video when I had to fo reverse parking at Candle wood. Then I passed my PDA . Thanks a lot David. I truly appreciate you and your time you spent to make these videos. 🙏🙏🙏

    The lack of traffic always stands out in your videos

      Don't be deceived. There is plenty of traffic around at peak times of the day - but that's not the time to go out and get stuck in traffic doing a training video!

    Just wanted to let you know mate I passed my manual road test around 2 months ago and I'd say your videos were a large contributor in me passing. Had lessons with a driving school in Joondalup and in no way was the detail provided over numerous lessons was nearly up to standard as represented in these videos. Keep it up brother many people will benefit!

    Hi there. At 5:14, when we are turning to a new street and we don't see a speed limit, would you suggest we do a 50 speed limit or could we ask the assessor what the speed limit is during the driving test? Thanks mate

      In your driving test the only time you would do more than 50 would be if you were 100% certain of where you are and what the speed limit is. Otherwise the strategy is to make a statement (not ask a question) that you are going to assume 50 until you see a sign stating something different. That way the assessor knows your reason for travelling at that speed and won't ping you for going too slow. Usually after you make that statement, the assessor will let you know the speed limit because they don't want your slow driving to create a hazard. Good question!

    Hello, David , when you reverse out of the driveway to do 3 points turn. People say as long as you do it in continuous motion when you move off after reverse to the road , you do not need to indicate , don’t need to do the blindspot check. What about do I need to look the mirrors or not ?
    But you still have to stop before you can go forward , can it be still in a continuous motion ?

      We're talking here about instilling 'muscle memory' for a driving task. Some instructors say 'only indicate if there's somebody behind you'. But how do you know that unless you check properly - at the last possible instant before moving away? You might have missed something the last time you checked, or if there's a really close intersection behind you, someone might come flying around the corner after you last looked and tries to go straight around you. The whole point of indicating is to warn the person behind you that you're moving away but in order to check what's behind you need to do the mirrors and blind spot check - so why complicate your normal process of 'mirrors, indicate, blind spot check' by selectively dropping one components of that suite of checks. By all means, properly check that there's nobody behind and make a conscious decision not to indicate - but why? Keep driving simple. Thanks for the question.

    Hi there do u only check your back mirror or all three?

    • @ilukadrivingschool8696
      @ilukadrivingschool8696  2 роки тому +3

      Depends what you're doing. If simply braking, then it's central mirror and then brakes (taking into account the size and distance of any vehicles behind you). If slowing down to turn, then it's central mirror, side mirror (for the direction that you're turning), turn signal, and then brakes. If there's a gap between your vehicle and the kerb (such as a bike lane) and you're not moving very quickly (i.e. slower than bike traffic), then you should also check your blind spot (over your shoulder in the direction of the kerb) in case a bike is lurking in your blind spot and moving at the same speed or quicker than you. Very good question. Thanks for watching!
