Agree with you. If I was younger, had money and loved to live in France... But the french characters are not compatible with my way to look at live. I am German and this mentality...and they let you feel that they do not like the Germans at all. Very old hate is still preserved in this country.

That's what my thoughts are . Get a family in there to look after it and do what repairs they could. Keep the yard area for. A .family could do quite a bit. And keep the vandals out. If people wanted to " tour it". Charge a fee and put that towards the property.

definitely not alone. At the 3:36 mark a figure in a white, old fashioned shirt appears above you at the windows. Right to left. Stops and appears to watch you then walks slowly away. Figure appears again at 4:24 left to right, walks along corridor. Again figure returns at 4:46 from R t L, stops peers from the window to the courtyard, lingers a few seconds then disappeared. Slow down speed to .25 and watch in slow motion. Fascinating !

How sad that a beautiful home like this was abandoned. Maybe it was passed down to the current owners who didn’t want it. PS full such lovely treasures, books, photos and the lovely oak wood. 👋🇬🇧

The true artistry of the rarest kind. It gave us a glimpse into another era we who live in this modern world could only dream of. The opulence and grandeur of vast fortunes that were passed down through the centuries to their rightful heirs. I hope and pray this castle will last for many years to come before nature and the passage of time consumes it completely. What a privilege to have a glimpse into a time of rare beauty and grace. One of the last rooms that was connected to a much smaller one was no doubt the children's room and the other belonged to the Au Pare (sp ?) or as we know them here Nannies. Thank you for showing us the gem and for the great effort it took to get there.

Hi boys from Australia. As a lover of history & restoring fine antiquities it was nice to see that recent mail was found within the relics of this castle. Like all large estates & homes passed down to families over time the running costs are immense. There would be owners surely who sadly don’t have the time or money to bring this historic home back to its original state. Many aren’t sure what they can do as help is often very expensive but there are many people who would volunteer to get these priceless antiquities into boxes & catalogued where they can be stored safely for the owner. Many of us around the world would be honoured to help by purchasing anything the owner would like to sell helping to raise money to get this castle back to its hay day. Governments are happy to get these homes looked into & historically classed. With public interest rising due to your wonderful video work I’m hoping that the owners understand that we care for them & would like to offer any assistance that would start reclamation of their unique home.
Explomo’ boys Is there any way you could make contact with the property owners? I think it’s all very nice that we all get to see inside these private peoples homes & that “UA-cam” financially benefits ….. So why not pass it forward & make a difference in someone’s life who obviously needs a helping hand. I wish I could do something to get this started.. Does anyone from France know how to contact these owners? We need to get this resolved as time is not on our side.
Much respect & thanks, Rhonda NSW Australia.

    • @seeDiersoilcrossrowds

You do not understand. These properties are left like this because all the family are all deceased. The property owners on the paper work/deeds are dead already. France does not have laws in place, unlike America, which makes a property owner that has died, must sell the property and divide it up among living relatives, unless it is willed to a certain person. If there is no official Will. then Probate law goes into effect. France has no such laws so property belongs to the dead people. Thus it remains as it was left.

Regarding the “secret room”. My grandmothers house used to have a room very similar and I think I have a very good idea on what it would have actually been used for. You guys compared it to a chapel and you’re close! It’s called a “parlour” which was an offshoot/extension of one’s “living room”. Back in the old days when family members passed away, they wouldn’t be taken to funeral homes but instead funeral rites and visitation of the body in its casket was done in the parlour at home! Families who lived in luxurious homes had this room specifically for that purpose, but people who were not so rich had their wakes/funerals in the regular family room/living room. It makes sense that the “secret room” has a churchy feel along with a piano etc because this is where wakes and funeral visitation would have taken place! I don’t find it creepy or anything though… it’s quite a beautiful thing really!

hey “Fangios”!! stop, you are little trash bandits!! you did not enter illegally. It’s clear that there is a caretaker who lives in the castle.
1, there is no dust on the floor, in many places, when passing the door!! the room has no more dust, and the bed has no bedspread!?! the bathroom is super clean!! the chair where you sat didn't have any dust either! Besides, you wouldn't have sat down if it had been dusty?? the African game with the marbles, in the veranda, has no dust at all???
2, are all room doors open? that someone opened them to you, so that you could only visit these pieces!!
and, 3,, I saved that for the end, hahahahhaha, we clearly saw a person passing in front of the windows of the veranda, when you do at the beginning, your little splich!!!!
ha yeah I forgot, the gas stove outside!! for the barbecue??? hahahahah!!! laugh out loud!!! keep up the good work. see you next time you laugh hahahahah, bye twinks!

I have done much research on 17th and 18th century antiques after being blessed with an inheritance of antiques from this time frame. The respect you guys give these items in these beautiful homes is very honorable. I know that you could pay for a year of travels with a single dinner plate stored in a decaying china cabinet. Surprisingly the items stored in the "junk rooms" are usually the MOST sought after antiques of all. I'm living vicariously through you. Keep up the awesome exploration. I am an adoring fan!

Near the door , that is for Holy/Blessed Catholic water, to be placed in the top part and then put with the faucet area into the bowl beneath. People could bless themselves when coming and leaving this entrance area. It was water' blessed first by a Priest' and brought to the home, or the Priest came and brought water when stopping once a year, to visit family to see how all was going and to bless the castle.
This had to be the most exquisite home/Chateau, (even more than this) in its day. Just love seeing this and all they left behind was unbelievable, Thank you both for taking this time to bring it to us.

Hi, Maureno and Remon, thank you for sharing this exploration. The figurines in the plastic bags used to be local souvenirs in many European countries, they are showing off their traditional clothing, like some kind of Dirndl and leather trousers, if you see what I mean. In German we call this traditional clothing 'Tracht' and it used to be worn Sunday to church or/and on holidays. I remember these figurines from my first holidays as a child, I think, so they could probably be from 1960 to 1979 or similar.

I loved that you found the secret rooms. The place went on forever- I’d get confused! I loved the beautiful stone? stairways that flowed and wound around so beautifully. The thing that intrigued me was the obviously medieval toilet!!! This little alcove truly enforces that the castle is truly 12th century or perhaps somewhat later. What a remarkable tour. Thank you.❤️

The (water) container and basin on the wall by the door was most likely for anyone coming in to rinse off their dirty hands before entering the main part of the castle.
The item that you said might be equipment for a fireplace is most likely a "steel" for sharpening kitchen knives by dragging the knife blade over the surface at a certain angle.
The utensils in the drawer were not tarnished, so they probably aren't real sterling silver, but simply stainless steel for everyday use.
The game with the smalls balls is called Oware (or the common English name is awari), played worldwide with possible origins in Africa.

The basin in the main hallway/entrance is a hand washing station.
Usually for when one has been working outdoors, or has been working with animals, or when travelling by coach after a long trip.
It’s a common site in France amongst country farmhouses and chateaus!
They may be found in other European countries.
The ‘secret door’ is simply a servants hallway so that they are not seen in the main hallways, mostly done in houses of the era. In this case it looks as though they are servants quarters possibly.
This was done so that the servants seem to appear out of thin air, so-to-speak, to add to an air of efficiency, silence and minimal ‘visual’ intrusion into the lords home domain.
    IMHO . . .

Yes it was. Travelling by horse was usually a very long journey, in every type of weather. Guests were fatigued from the bumps that hard, wooden wheels or steel caused, and were offered dust cleansing water at entry, which also allowed the home to remain cleaner. :-) Polite society offered this as customary.

Mi procura una grande nostalgia e malinconia vedere queste stanze abbandonate, avendo ormai perduto quasi tutti quei ricordi materiali. 😢

I hope someone will clean out all the old wonderful items before the whole place falls in on itself. Glad to see there was actually a modern bathroom. You can almost sit and think what living there once was. I wish you had more history of the place, as to why so much was just left in place - it doesn't look as if it's been totally abandoned for very long. Great job!!

If there was no moat, then there would be an access door at the bottom so some poor peasant would have to clean it out every now and then, and cart the contents off to fertilize a field.

And there were a couple of styles of building connected to the original castle/château you can tell by some of the stone work with brick . Someone definitely liked hidden rooms and stair cases ..
The beds I totally fell in love with. They get left because the cost of he upkeep and bills etc but a shame to leave it to rot!!

What’s really impressive is that these places ( mainly in Northern European) remain intact and respected, unlike here in the US where the a place like this would have been cleared out , vandalised and utterly trashed . Sad fact….

    • @Explomo
      @Explomo  10 місяців тому +3

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! You bring up an important point about the preservation of abandoned places in Europe. While it's true that many sites in Europe are well-preserved, it's also worth noting that vandalism and deterioration occur here too. Sometimes, uncovering these hidden gems requires venturing into remote areas or overcoming obstacles like climbing and accessing sites with caution.
Having explored both Europe and America, we've encountered time-capsules in both continents. It's indeed a challenge to find them, but there are fascinating discoveries to be made everywhere. Let's continue to appreciate and respect these remnants of the past wherever they may be found! 🏰✨

You have the original 12th century castle remodeled and expanded to create an elegant family chateau. It appears that there have been recent family members who have occupied parts of the home bedrooms, as they clearly have been occupied perhaps within 10 years. The main living areas seem to have been unused for decades and left olone and unkept in a time warp, dating back to the 19 century based on decor, artifacts and photos. Would be interesting to get the full family history on the property.

Those two pretty, light bedrooms look so happy and cosy. Like a happy capsule in a sad decayed castle.

Hi Maureno and Remon, I love that you two are back and doing well. I started watching the video, and had to leave for an appointment, when I restarted it and you got to the bedrooms that look so untouched, I had to go back and start over to see the what the placed looked like before the bedrooms. You don't mention the last known family to live there before it became abandoned, so I wonder who, all the stuff belongs to, and why it was left. The translation is " He is under the knife of sad suffering. But from Heaven it. Wait for the just reward." Great video guys, Thanks for sharing. Love from N.Y. P.S. do check 4:26 you may have a ghost.

I really like your explorations, guys. You both act very patiently with respect... you are curious and you care about materials, style, you think about centuries, about people who lived there.... And talk with The beautiful english.. I allways look forward to hear some charming french word in an english sentence :) Love it!

There are definitely squatters living there. The first three bedrooms at the end of the upstairs corridor are dust free, the beds have clean linens on them, and the wardrobes contain clean and modern clothing! Also, the bathroom is clean. Plus you found a piece of mail downstairs that was less than a month old!

Can't say I blame them, as long as they're not being vandals. Living in the middle of al this beauty and even having enough to read to last at least 3 lives! What's not to like?

The chess set had pieces that had been moved. There were spots where the pieces had been originally showing the layers of dust.

Hi glad to see you put things back in place. Maybe close a few drawers to save the items inside. This building needs saving with everything in it saved as well. All the hanging dolls are tourist dolls of all the costumes from different regions of Europe.
