Exuse me, but at 1'51 to 1'53 : position 3: series (to the neck), position 2 (in the middle): series with filter ( single coil), and position 1: Pararel (to the bridge).
I have recently purchased new 4 string Musicman for 3k after comparing it to the Sterling nearly identical bass. I went for originallity and yes its great....then Sire releases this for a fraction of the price. I definitely would have gone for the Sire and saved around 2.5K😢. The sound is identical. Sire are really giving main brands tough competition. I have played Musicman for years starting with 4 string Sabre in the 80s for 20 years and I also still have 5 String Sunburst like the one reviewed from 1999/2000. Very useful review thankyou.
Nice review. I have owned both basses. Used to own the SR5 and a similar age to yours. Rosewood board, 2000 model. Was never happy with it and it lacked that distinct Stingray growl and sound. I dont think the SR5's are tonally as good as the 4 strings. I own the Sire Z3 4 string version and its very impressive. Great construction and tone. The bridge is same spec/quality as the Stingray Specials too. Played the Sire Z3 5 string recently and its a nice bass...gave more of a Stingray tone than my old SR5. Z3's are great basses and at significantly cheaper prices than EB stingrays, are a bargain.
Yeah, my eyes are on the 73-4, but the Rose Gold as that's the only one with tort. MY Sire PJ and Strat are both White Tort, so the Rose is a bit adventurous for me. It's growing on me, but I'll take a rattle can to it if I I don't gel with it long term. Two White/Torts is probably enough, so may end up candy red or Teale and a Tort. At this price I don't think I have to be precious about it.
The sound certainly isn't $2000 better. On my Z7, the feel isn't either. I paid $1500 for my stingray special used and the sire is VERY close overall- in feel, sound, playability,
Nice video! I just got my Z3 on Monday and I'm loving it. The Ernie Ball is that classic tone we all know and love and would be my #1 pick. But, the Z3 (especially for the price) is amazing and I might put it over the Sterling Ray 35? Also, I read that the Z3 was wired in parallel.
I have owned and own Stingray 5's and quite interested in the Sire Z series basses. I owned a Sire V7 and liked it but it weighed 11 pounds! I sold it. The Z3 seems like a great bass but the sound is just a bit too powerful sounding. The Stingray has a sweeter tone to me.
I can’t argue the price versus the sound. The Sire really holds up well - how would you compare the weight and neck thickness/profile? Thank you for the demo.
@@TheChaptersirl hello! The radius of the scale are different, mm 9.5, sire 12., the neck is very confortable, i have one V5 and had v3,V7 this profile is the better i had. The radius 12 did all difference. Tks!!!
You have switch the toggle to parallel, not serial. That’s the other side. Your MM is from before 2008. So it’s a Ceramic PU. (Serial-single-parallel). Your MM with Ceramic PU sounds completely different than my MM with Alnico PU. Since 2008 is the middle position wired in serial with a special filter. This middle position sounds really close to the Sire. And I think also that te Sire is wired in parallel not serial.
it is very difficult to compare these basses because the EQ-Setting is not the same. The Z3 has more Bass in the Video and the MM sound clearer for this reason. Maybe the caomparison should be with the same settings. 0B 0M 0T for Bass Mids Treble ... Both sounds good
@@ianinfinity380 hello!! Always in my MM 5 Strings the G string fall from fretboard, is normal!! Kkk With the sire i do not had this, i just play 2 days with it, maybe in one or two weeks i can answer your question better! Tks!
Nice review. Sire should wire the Z3 in parallel. The pre Ernie Ball Musicman Stingrays are wired in parallel. Sterling by Musicman has some strong competition from Sire.
Is it confirmed that sire is in series? It sounds parallel to me, that’s classic stingray tone, when he had the switch all the way back he said that was series but it’s actually parallel
Sire soudns really good, but to me MM is much better. Sire has huge potential, though. I think I will go for Z3 and pickup upgrade...maybe Nordstrand 4.2 or something :)
I prefer the tone of the Z3 but would like to see a comparison with an SR5 with a maple fretboard. I love my SR5 H Special with a roasted maple neck and fretboard!!! For the money, it's hard to beat the Z3 and the Z7!!!
Nice, that is the comparison I was looking for - thanks!

Hi Kleber,
The Z3!
Nice crispy high in and nice bottom.
Ready to record .
The stingray is more raw .
Z3 !

I wish it came with a Tort pickguard, 'm a sucker for the classic white/tort look esp. as the white ages

The stingray 5 has higher output and clarity. Sire = Sterling or the Sub line that musician has
How about the Z3 weight?
I want to know this too.
My ears prefer the Sire Z3. To me it sounds a bit more articulate, and the overall tone is more to my liking.
I agree musicman was way to trebley if that’s a word
Great video and to me the Sire sounds a little more modern

New strings would give the stingray a crisper top
Really I would see it more in terms of buying USA made on principle
The Sire bass sounds good, but ultimately, it will always be viewed as a cheaper knock-off of the MusicMan.
Are you high? That's EXACTLY what it is!
