I can't say how much I appreciate the carvings that are simple and start with readily available chunks of wood. This keeps carving fun for those with limited time and resources. Great work, as always.

As a new carver I really appreciate these videos. This channel and Carving is Fun both got me to go get a Whittle Jack and some basswood blocks from the hardware store and start carving. I've already made a chess pawn, a little fox for my daughter, and now I'm working on a meerkat for my son. I really appreciate your videos and your positive nature. You seem like a cool guy I would be happy to sit and carve with. Keep up the great work and great videos.

    Hi Doug,
Love this little fella. Love all your work. Over here in Australia our 1” dowel is Tasmanian Oak and a bit on the hard splintery side but OK. Keep ‘em coming when you can. Always appreciated. You say these are just for beginners but I think you underestimate the joy of giving one of these little carvings to a child or in my case, my Mum who suffers from dementia.
I’ve been carving with you a while now and these little projects mean the world to me to be able to make. Just remember that anything that makes you smile wil bring joy to many others, whether they are on the carving end or the receiving end. Many thanks as always for whatever you share with us.

Another great video Doug. You mentioned folks gain confidence with these simple figures. Maybe a video where you take one of your simple figures and then progressively carve more challenging features? I went from the simple gnomes I learned from you and added bottles of booze, beer, fishing poles and walking staffs and then made a Viking complete with mace and shield. Just a few small steps at a time made a huge difference.
