I can't say how much I appreciate the carvings that are simple and start with readily available chunks of wood. This keeps carving fun for those with limited time and resources. Great work, as always.
Yes, same!!
Thank you my friend for another great simple project ..Its these type of projects that help the beginners carvers and other carvers to enjoy the art of carving ..Thank you for sharing Doug
As a new carver I really appreciate these videos. This channel and Carving is Fun both got me to go get a Whittle Jack and some basswood blocks from the hardware store and start carving. I've already made a chess pawn, a little fox for my daughter, and now I'm working on a meerkat for my son. I really appreciate your videos and your positive nature. You seem like a cool guy I would be happy to sit and carve with. Keep up the great work and great videos.
See there!?....ditto what Beau said!
Such a neat idea. thanks.
Thank You definitely beginner friendly!
This is so cte and simple. Wow! From Texas
Hi Doug,
Love this little fella. Love all your work. Over here in Australia our 1” dowel is Tasmanian Oak and a bit on the hard splintery side but OK. Keep ‘em coming when you can. Always appreciated. You say these are just for beginners but I think you underestimate the joy of giving one of these little carvings to a child or in my case, my Mum who suffers from dementia.
I’ve been carving with you a while now and these little projects mean the world to me to be able to make. Just remember that anything that makes you smile wil bring joy to many others, whether they are on the carving end or the receiving end. Many thanks as always for whatever you share with us.
very good teaching. Thanks
Mr Doug, really loving these little quick, "easy" beginner-friendly carves. But also very much appreciate the big, 'harder' ones too. Thanks not only for the education but the attitude it's delivered with. Thanks for doing all you do. Please keep em coming.
This will be my second ever carve, thanks for the simplicity and accesibleness of this one!
Doug, I have enjoyed the crap out of your carvings/videos. You are a good man!
I didn't know that was going to show up on the board, I wouldn't have been so crass : ) We all learn and are inspired so much from you/by you!!
Another great tutorial! Saving to my carving tutorials playlist for sure. Can't wait to follow along and attempt myself. Thanks for all you do! You are an amazing teacher. Cheers!
I'm super happy to hear that you'll be doing more "dowel" projects. Where I live, it's about all I can find. Thank you so much!
Doug I really do appreciate these easy carving tutorials. My husband and I are full time RVers and I have a fabulous hobby that I can do anywhere. With just a little saw and I bought the flexcut beginner set(4piece) and I have hours if enjoyment...so thank you truly!
Thanks Doug for another great project I really like the mix of simple and detailed carvings.
Love this idea simple good practice!
Doug amazing as always.. I love your simplicity of carving for beginners, I’m a seasoned carver ,but these make it fun and easy to teach a newbie.
Keep them coming 🙏🏼👍. And please say hello to Sophie for us .💙👍😇🇺🇸
I think I’ll use some of the sticks I brought home from my dash to the woods 3 days ago. I will leave bark on for the stump. Great job Doug, love every carving simple or detailed, so inspiring, thank you.
Great tutorial. Thank you.
I love your work, Im learning so much . But your voice is so soothing and gentle you are truly the Bob
Ross of whittling.
You have a good eye for measuring
You know Doug I have been watching your videos for many years now and you are correct that the simple / easy projects are the most fun. I like the 1 inch dowel idea because everyone can get a dowel from a store near them.
Thanks so much Doug! Perfect small gifts to have around !
What a fun little project. Thanks Doug!
You sir, are by far the best carving teacher on youtube. Please keep this videos coming. Thanks.
Another great video Doug. You mentioned folks gain confidence with these simple figures. Maybe a video where you take one of your simple figures and then progressively carve more challenging features? I went from the simple gnomes I learned from you and added bottles of booze, beer, fishing poles and walking staffs and then made a Viking complete with mace and shield. Just a few small steps at a time made a huge difference.
My favorite carvings that I’ve come up with are bull frog on a lily pad and Log
Cute cravings great job
The Bob Ross of carving. Very enjoyable and relaxing.
Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new.
Thank you once again Doug, I appreciate these fun little carvings just as much as the more complicated carvings you do. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
It's going to go nicely with the first design, like a cute fuzzy baby version. Thanks again for these tutorials 🥰
Thank for the little project to get me through recovery from back surgery love the little owl unfortunately everyone I know is probably going to get one lol
Love these little owls on the stumps, I did your previous owl from 3 years ago and really enjoyed carving that one.
Absolutely love it! You are very talented Doug.
Love these owls. And it looks like the poplar carves pretty well.
I have family members who are always asking me to carve Owls 🦉 for them! Thanks again Doug for another guide to get started on a different owl…so they are all not the same! Great video as always!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Thanks Doug. I like all your vids and you're correct in saying these easy / quick whittles are helping me become more confident while getting better at the fundamentals. You're The Man! TY
Another great and fun carve I'll get into, thanks Doug. I had fun doing several of your other Simple, Fast And Easy Owls and gifted some, people absolutely love them.
So cute❤️
I really enjoyed whittling the wood spirit as you taught us on your recent tutorial. I collected a few nice pieces of wood on my recent walk in woods. I think I will give this owl a go using one of those branches. Thanks again for taking the time to share your talent so unselfishly.
Ey Doug, hello from Calgary. Those would be great little clips to close off chip bags. Thanks for the great vids and blessing to you and the family.Cheers👍👍
I simply love and totally enjoy your artistic abilities. Thank you for sharing your gift.
Love all your carvings and videos. Keep them coming
Love these. I enjoy making mini totem poles out of the dowels.
Awesome job Doug, thank you for sharing the video I love watching you carving take care.
This series is great. There are a lot of places you can go with it.
Great idea Doug! Fantastic!
Thank you
This video was fun to watch. A great little project for just sitting on the deck with a knife. Your finishing, colour selection and blending techniques really level-up the final look. Thanks Doug👌
These little owls are so adorable 😍 💕. Thanks for the tutorial and entertainment. Such a nice backyard. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 😃
Thank you again for a “round” dovel carving.
I like to be able to start my carvings from differents wood shape.
Thank you!
Awesome love your carvings you are such a inspiration to me to carve so easy to follow video’s and relaxing projects 👍
Love your videos!! They are so informative, and calming at the same time! Please keep them coming.
This is super fun looking, thanks Doug
Your videos are very relaxing to watch. Inspired by your carving, I've done about 20 little figures. When the weather is nice, it's very relaxing to sit in a plastic Adirondack chair in my driveway and carve.
You are the Man!! Great ideas. Keep me carving.
Another awesome fun project Doug. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thanks!
Fantastic carving once again. Had carved the penguin on a snowy rock which was my favourite but now think the owl is going to my no.1 favourite. 🏴👍
So adorable. Thank you
Cool project for those winter nights
Thanks for sharing Doug
Take care
Cheers
Harold
Thanx Sir Doug! I'm a beginner Nibbler, ( My GrandSon's word for whittler), and this video is an inspiration to carry on. I bought a dowel and made two lighthouses, and now I'm excited to create some owls. Again I say....Thanx for Your instructional videos. You are The Best!
Thank you! I like these owls!
Thanks again Doug ! 👍
So glad I found your channel. I've sculpted for years as a museum artist, but always wanted to learn to carve. (It's hard!) Thanks!
Thank You Doug.
Another great one for newbies and oldbies! 😉
Fantastic stuff. You are right on the money about the simple carvings inspiring new carvers...it's most important that beginners experience success and your tutorials do that very well. Kudos!!
Enjoyed this clip. Really enjoyed the hanging gnome class. I learned allot and have made several.
Idk anything about carving but I’m watching your videos regardless. It’s actually making me interested lol
Nice! Thank you Doug. 👍😁
Great project and cool little twist on the owl. Seriously enjoy your vids due to the laid back vibe I always see during the projects. Keep up the great work Bud.....It is very appreciated.
thanks can't wait to try 💪👀👀👍🏻
Hi Doug😁🖐these are so sweet!.Thank you for the instruction, just love your carvings💕👍
Awesome Carving !!
Outstanding video. Easily among my favorites now! You make it look so easy and fun, and very entertaining. Very inspiring, Doug. Thank You.
BTW your previous owl tutorial was so cool I am carving one right now. It is my first wood carving owl ever!
I plan to give it to my daughter for her birthday.
Thank you very much. I've added wood carving as a new hobby due to your very inspirational videos.
Great job ! I am pretty new to woodcarving and I have followed along with some of your videos and shown my 5 year old son along the way. He loves it and always asks if he can carve.
I just wanted to let you know - You saved Mother's Day for a few people. Liked/Subscribed/Bell'ed and commenting for the algorithm. Thank you for all ya do!
Thanks-you! Appreciate it
I like the new eyes - though the comic-y eyes are a ton of fun as well. I have carved about a dozen of the original owls, and a bunch of Easter bunnies, and the penguin rocks as well...
Thanks a ton! Those videos are always a lot of fun for me :)
Love it Doug! Heading out to get some dowl rods. I guess they don’t get as many views but I enjoy watching the more complicated carving. I learn from it and you are becoming a real master.
Everything you do is awesome
Love it. I have about two feet of dowel left from your light house. Thank you will carve a bunch of these.
Neat carving
Thank you for making this content. I wish I had the talent to make the things you do. I am going to try this owl project. Take care!
Good morning and a very Merry Christmas Doug.
I have just finished watching the dowel light house video. The dowel was very hard to carve but I found that if I sprayed it lightly with a solution of water and 70% rubbing alcohol in equal parts it made the carving so much easier.
I’ve been so successful with your Videos and seem to be a natural at it I’ve been putting out very nice pieces also quite nice when people buy a piece or two from You here and there thanks for the videos buddy very much appreciate it
Doug, u da man!!✔️👍👍👌👌👏👏
Bravo!!
hi i just love these i am going to do one of these i am happy you are going to do more with the dowels thanks doug i am just a benginner in the carving world
Nice job and thank you. A poplar dowel isn’t always the softest wood. But it will give you plenty of projects.
Enjoy your videos.I have a small amount of power carving equipment. But have some flex cuts coming for Christmas. Looking forward to getting started carving. Thanks for the instruction. I also like your outdoor fishing and camping videos. Jim's wood shop
Really enjoyed having a go at this. Have been watching for a while and this was my first attempt. Great fun, and mine sort of looks like an owl 🤣.
Great video, great channel. Appreciate the time and effort you must put in. Thank you.
Going for attempted owl number 3 today. 🦉
Been having some trouble getting the ears and face right. Last attempt went from 'almost owl' to 'Lovecraftian abomination'. Love these videos, thanks for putting them together, Doug.
🙃No basswood in south africa, but you sure do inspire me.....9 lighthouses later😂😂
I stopped carving because Basswood and it's shipping charges are exorbitant, and when I didn't carve for awhile the Basswood would dry up. Even after spraying with a H2O and alcohol mist, the wood was never the same as freshly bought. Frustrating.
So I APPRECIATE that you are showing us other woods which can be used. Thank you!
Guess i gotta buy some dowels now
Awesome carve.. your other owl video I made several on corner blocks and put magnets on them for the fridge. When my daughter came home from collage for break she stole them all for her room
Enjoyed this very much. Would make a good key fob
Love these dowel carvings, Doug! I do feel the difference between the wood, though, and I find that I have to take breaks more often. (older and weaker hands, i would say)
Thank you for doing this video. It has given me many ideas that you will get credit for. Thank you again !!!!!
P.S. Enjoyed the mourning dove the background.
