"Life's for my own to live my own way" As a teenager growing up in the 80s, those words resonated with me. Recently I was thinking of the times we are in these days and this song came to mind. Ride the Lightning...one of the best albums ever IMO.
it is killer rad music but also know its devils music. placing ones own gain before god or simply before a force more powerful than oneself is a road paved to hell. in 2023 people of the nation have abandoned god, family & country in favor of a philosophy similar to the one this awesome tune is professing in the lyrics

I heard they had been working on the riffs for a while before RTL, so they had something to work with, but there were no lyrics and the song was FAR from ready to be recorded. I'm pretty sure that's why James specifically hates it so much is because he didn't like the lyrics.

Damage INC, that's my shit. This song is really good though. I've heard this song so many times, I never knew it was titled Escape. I'm here after reading an article about Hetfield and some fans dissing it, it's one of the many, many classic Metallica songs. Hell every song on Master of Puppets is a classic, but the speed and ferocity of Damage INC really gets my blood pumping.

I’m not a music major or anything but the way the chorus changes from an almost happy tone throughout the song to a dark sinister tone at the end is amazing. This whole albums amazing.

Escape was not suppose to be on Ride the lightning. But it is still a awesome and underrated song!! James Heitfield- "Escape was the first time we wrote a song in the studio. I remember we had all the songs and Lars said, 'They want us to record one more, they need one more for the album, I was like, 'You didn't tell me that...' So we had to write and it was really last-minute. So 'Escape' was one of those songs that was written in the studio"
