I do love hearing this. Over the decades, some brands are fortunate to have a defining product, like the Ford Mustang, or Swiss Army knife. I believe the S18 will be that for Kingsong, and will forever be the measure of anything they release in the future. Honestly, aside from battery technology, I can’t think of how it could be improved upon, at least from a design perspective. For me, it’s perfect! It’s an engineering masterpiece.

Just looking at the design language, the S18 is so attractive in getting way from the black glossy LED laden saucer design, which screams "children's toy" to me. The exposed frame trellis and suspension is something that draws the eye on performance motorcycles, and the S18 has a lot of that appeal. I like the fact that it dispenses with the ambiance LEDs and speakers which frankly to me mostly mean more disassembly/reassembly when doing tire maintenance.
The only other EUC that has caught my eye in a similar way is the Veteran Sherman with its utilitarian, "military machinery" look. Perhaps Veteran could sell even more if they offered some in an olive drab finish. Adam may have been looking only at function, but he now has the two best looking EUCs in his small stable.

I recommend getting a 45° valve extender for the top chamber of the suspension so that you can fill it up without using the block/sitting on it etc.

I'd love to hear your views on the newest S18 V3 with Molicell, they are still >£2k but are very tempting for short-medium range stuff. It's only 25kg which with every other suspension wheel being >40kg now is crazy. I'd personally prefer less weight with less battery.

Thank you for this review! I wasn't very pleased with the first batch of these suspension wheels, but with the second batch, I think its finally the wheel for me. I don't like to ride fast, but I wanted a light and compact wheel with suspension (cause after Zero 10x with its amazing suspension it was hard to adapt to ks14ds) and that wheel is definitely what I was looking for.

LOLs welcome to the monowheel MTB club! Yes it does not have range & yes it has issues & yes not the best value & yes its also not the best allrounder on the planet but man, everytime I ride it on less than stellar terrain, I feel like superdude! I use it for winter (its awesome for not spraying my asswhite despite losing the mudguard) & I use for MTB trails. In that capacity, its the bomb! Don't know bout others but my legs/knees give out wayyy before the battery does on trails where topspeed isn't a big deal either.

I would love to compare side by side your Batch 2 and my Batch 1 model. Mine arrived without any problems with its construction, and while I didn't lubricate it before my first ride, which resulted in some squeaking, all I've done is remove the washers from the sides of one of the linkages. I'd love to get into smoothening the rest out as much as possible, but honestly, as it is now, it doesn't seem sticky at all. It raises up to the top of its range when I step off without issue, and the suspension travels smoothly. I do want to look for some kind of lubricant though, as there is def some need for it on the pistons on the sides. I love that wheel, and can't wait till I can go back out and ride it once the weather permits it.

I'm 50+... actually in my 60's. It's not hard on my knees. Started riding a little over a year ago. My limit is about 30 miles per ride then my legs feel like wet noodles but no pain. I can only get about 30 miles out of the batteries on my MSX/84 or my RS/HS Have about 20% left on battery after 30 miles. For me that's about 1.5 hours of actual riding. I ride very hard and aggressively, my weak link is my lower back. So on 2 wheels I can get about 60 miles and I am usually still feeling good. Tired but no pain. Don't let age hold you back.

Hey Adam, would the S18 be a good beginner EUC rider wheel? (I ride MTB and e-scooters though) like the inmotion V11?
And as someone who rides in stupid cold weather (compared to where I live), how much impact does the cold have on the battery? like, EUC is inside nice and warm and then heads out and is kept warm at the destination, does the batt temp fall?? (I am yet to do my first winter with my e-scooter as I bought mine in late spring last year)
Definitely has the range for what I want (commuting) and the suspension would be delicious and invaluable considering the """"amazing quality"""" of some of the footpaths in Canberra and I tend to go bush to yield for pedestrians
Pretty much I am split between an InMotion V11 and the KingSong S18
    - Both are available from my nearest EUC dealer and my alt-option up the north coast
    - Both have the range to make a full commute comfortably (though the S18 has much less range then the V11), though both of them are small enough multi-modal commute is OK (compared to a ninebot max!).
    - S18 is a fair bit lighter (important for me as I live in an appartment with only stairs 🤮)
    - Both have air suspension and big ass wheels (important for our tree root dickered footpaths/cycleways here in Canberra)
    - Need to do more research as to which of them is more weather resistant as I do intend to commute; rain, hail or shine, both in summer (40C+) and winter (between -5C and 15C)
    - Both are supported by darkbot iirc
    - Both are 18x3 wheels
    - V11 is faster, however in Canberra we're limited to 25 km/h atm so top speed is kinda irrelivant, both clean the speed limit by a mile so both aren't likely to be "slow" to 25km/h
    - Both have same power motors 2.2kw
    - V11 has slightly more battery 1.5 kwh vs 1.1 kwh
    - Both have 2.5A charger
    - S18 has slightly steeper climb angle, but both are pretty baller
    - Price wise (excl the sale thats on for the S18 up north) they're roughly same price
    - V11 suspension is simplier (less moving parts) though if the S18 design is sound then extra moving parts is prob O.K.
    - S18 is slightly less Kuji pad friendly though I prob could find a way
    - Both I can't fly with (heavier than carry on weight limit (15kg), has wheel + battery so must be hoverboard 🤦‍♂️ and battery blows the ass way out of the limit our aviation authority has set for passenger flights (160WH vs 1000WH+ 🤣))
    - Both of them are equally visually appealing to me in different ways 🤣 (normally that's the easy tie breaker, which one is moar pretty)

Glad you rehabilitated it from that loughing stock - that metal bar really is not really important, as funny as it is :)
And by your own example, S18 seems to have some serious advantages over V11, especially if you treat EUC as a longer-term personal investment.
The hollow motor of V11 for now looks more like a vulnerability, and generally S18 seems to be much more repairable. It is not that painful to change a tire or even a suspension. So even if build quality is inferior, breaking something is not such a big deal. I think Begode went that route, and it looks reasonable to me. Not to mention a beautiful environmental idea of repairability, which France has already started to implement: grist.org/climate/why-frances-new-repairability-index-is-a-big-deal/

Does kingsong s18 have a seat option? Looks like a very nice ride. I am worried I would damage suspension quickly though. 6'3" weigh 260lbs...
That seems a little on the heavy side for the stress I would put on that wheel. You're thoughts?

    • @mr_wrongway
      @mr_wrongway  3 роки тому +1

Hey :) I think it doesn’t have a seat option. Yeah with your weight it will be quite easy to cut-off/overpower and your range wouldn’t be great :/

Would you ow ride the s18 at 40kmhish for long range without being anxious?
Will you be reviewing the monster pro latest Version, I need to know if it's worth a buy for a 50km daily commuter with max comfort. Wish I could do it with s18 but I weight to much and cruising around 40/45kmh would be dangerous for me I think 😕

Its not a long RANGE wheel :) i guess you can just dont overlean it. I think it cant go that fast below 20%

I think it’d be worse if I started to like it and keep saying I don’t. There were just a couple things I didn’t appreciate enough. If you look at the first review I still mention good things but they battery/motor problem is in the foreground. People will still face plant or cutoff on it when not careful so these didn’t change either
