Hope you still get this, even though it's been up a long time. This is very nicely done. Very nicely done. Just sent it to three of my very special friends that I watch out for from time. They can use a refresher from time to time. As can I. Retirement can leave you rusting than I could have imagined. Best wishes and my sincere thanks!
Great video. You covered this very well for beginners. Thanks very much. Can you do a video on what are acceptable pressure ranges for a system when you attach the gauges. Thanks again.
In case you don't hear back, and assuming you actually get this, check out some of the apps. Some of them are very good. Pick one or two you are most comfortable with. No need to squish the numbers into your head. They'll stick with you easier if you don't. And if you, or anyone you pass this onto ever gets a little unsure because you've got so much you've also got to get to(and we've all been there, and I still do with refrigerents and equipment I don't see too often). Hey, best wishes and best of luck. I can't say enough good things about a woman or man that asks questions!!
Great video thank you, and yes you are so right about new technicians coming out of school don’t apply finding out when troubleshooting the system what is the superheat and sub cooling it’s a very important tool To use every day as a service technician, Keep up the great work and keep them videos coming Stay safe out there
Thank you very. Much for sharing. I have Learnt how to check SH and SC. Most of the compressor failures are result of tech. not checking above. Pls keep sending more videos where everyone understands the subject. I like the way you explain Thank you
Good job brother had same problem yesterday had 45 300 on r 410 a then charge add one pound high side going 400 and low side psi not moving stuck closed..
Unfortunately the units in my country only have a suction pressure service valve, you can't connect at the high side. Without being able to measure subcooling it is much harder for us and there are not many technicians who can actually troubleshoot. My guess is if my superheat is ok then the TXV should be fine.
When you diagnosed the indoor TXB is being bad did you notice any ice buildup or frost anywhere off the Tubes on the indoor or outdoor unit after the TXV? I had a similar unit that the indoor TXV tubes off the valve were frosting up and never got to see the coil actually ice up.
What about actually doing the heating and cooling test on the TXV and watching the readings/pressure on the head unit drops when heated to open and rise when cooled to close off refrigerant to evaporator.
When I was in Florida, two techs told me"low on freon" Still no cooling, a third came out and found out the txv was bad, replaced, all is well. No wonder in Fl. they call techs who just charge n go " freon jockeys"!
Travis did you ever do a video on that TXV mine keeps getting stuck on and off I got a quote that was astronomical to replace my TXV almost had a heart attack I live in Florida I have R22 in there now my guy tapped it it seems to mostly happen around 8:00 I was getting temperatures about 5657 coming out of the air vents last night it got warm and it was coming out at 66 but then the next day it was freezing I've got one great guy his name is Dave but he works for a rip-off company what is the actual cost reasonable to replace this
That also could have been a liquid line restriction, instead of a bad TXV.They have the same symptoms.especially if someone has come and added refrigerant.
Travis Poe regardless it was an excellent video and I like the style of instruction you use,And your method of teaching.Happy thanksgiving brother.I also thank you for sharing your knowledge with up and coming techs, and intermediate technicians.
I tech commercial work. Most of it comes from contractors that have contracts guaranteeing service "very quickly" but few workers of value. If you wee on a job with me, I then would have two people on the job that could work one
So I have had a issue for a month or so with my system sometimes cooling excellent and other times not worth a crap. Have had the company out 5 times. It’s a 410A system icp 2.5 ton. Yesterday he said the expansion valve was bad because the pressures were off, the superheat was not correct and that means this valve. System was installed in 2018. It has froze up the evaporator coils 3 times, runs all day and the temperature inside increases between 2 and 5 degrees - doesn’t seem to keep up - sometimes the air is really cool sometimes it’s not cool enough to call air conditioning. Does this sound like the valve problem is right to you?
If you changed the filter dryer with a good vacuum will resolve the issues, no need to blame txv, although issue is happening inside the txv, thank you!
I have a lennox . I thought I was low on refrigerant. Checked the air handler and I had a leak on one of the capillary tubes coming off the txv. So I brazed it ,replaced the refrigerant and now all the tunes coming off my txv freeze and thaws repeatedly. The txv body doesn't freeze just the tube. Plus no cold air. So I'm thinking replacing the txv would solve this issue. Any ideas 💡 🤔
Hope you figured it you.but when the cap tubes or the "U"s freeze up as well, its due to air flow , dirty air filter or the blower has lost its electrical power due to age or the bolt that grabs on the blower motor shaft has gotten loose.(which is like saying your tires popping off your car wheels) ..so your coil is freezing up because air is not pushing the coldnest of the refrigerant thru your entire a/c duct system..now if you have dampers its because one of them is shut closed or the damper motors are dead or a stuck open bypass damper which keeps recycling that cold air fastly inside your indoor unit
I think I have a bad TXV. The HVAC repairmen cannot figure out what is wrong with my unit, and it has been having issues and randomly blowing warm all summer. After running for a while, might be several hours might be a whole day, the air keeps running but the cool air stops and my radiator coils on the inside unit are warm. If I turn the unit off for several hours, when I turn it on it is cooling again. Everytime the technicians come to diagnose, it happens to be during a time my unit is running cool. They keep making appointments for several days out, so I can't just keep it running warm for several days until they arrive, and whenever they have been here it has been while it was actually cooling. As a result they have no idea what is wrong with the unit, but I don't think they were able to test the TXV. Does that sound like it could be caused by a TXV closing up after hours of use and then opening back up when the system is off?
Have they checked out the fan motor? I had a unit just last week that had very similar issues , during the day it cooled just fine but around 6-7pm ( hottest point of the day ) it seemed to overheat the fan motor and cause it to go off on thermal overload and it would reset/cool down every half hour . They can check the running starting/running amps on the fan motor and see if it’s over amping. This specific unit had the good windings since they all added up and the bearings on the fan turned just fine .
Howzit guzzy hey idid have the same problem i tried to clean the txv and check it inside but nothing .i charge the system again it happens again i heat the valve thought was a moisture but it was freezing bad then i have to change it .it worked perfectly thanks bro
Travis Poe , Thank you for the reply ! Not trying to get free repair information, just trying to give myself a clear understanding and heads up when my ac tech comes by to diagnose my 5 ton system that was four pounds low on 410 almost a year ago to the day. He filled the refrigerant, but now I am back to where I was last year. No cool air ! 🤔 I will say that my evap-coil is badly corroded, and I am really worried that my 410 is leaking out from pin holes. Eight year old Carrier system. I wish I knew what you know !!! Unfortunately, in this circumstance, I build houses, not A/C systems ! I live in southeast TX, so we use the AC way more than the heat !
150 for the drive & diagnose so the 700 is for the part and profit on labor fix ..so yeah sounds about right.plus hvac has gate keeping meaning only hvac companys have access to fix and sell.so if anything else off the street work then its illegal
So the price will be high so you want ac today? You gotta give up 1k today..while in car with a auto zone txv its like$60 for a honda plus$ 200 for the mechanic times ,your at $300 for a local mechanic to do, dealership would probably want $1k too but theyll have to take dash apart meaning txv swap out can be 2-3hrs while for a txv house can be done in1hr
I wish you were in my area all the A/C people around here want to sell you new units and not fix anything.. I think there all salesmen that are pretending to be Techs..
Hi everyone, happy new year year, I had couple of queries with regards to refrigeration system of my air drier, 1. What kind of sound does a txv makes is it continuous humming sound,, or it will be like breathing a minor pause and minor hiss alternatively 2. Two of the my refrigerant compressor have got damaged,, am trying to find the root cause of it... Thanks in advance,, Appreciate a lot anyone could help me out
Answer to your 2. Either the first person didnt do a vaccum or the txv took a crap over the years and it was working at being very open .causing your compressor sucking up liquid and shooting out liquid in other words the compressor was constantly compressing liquid threw both lines when it shouldnt a compressor has a dry side and convert thats dryness to liquid
Or someone over charged it ..and instantly killed it there or it was overcharged to begin with and when the txv worned out it was working at wide open and hardly ever closed
I've had embarrassing moments where I went through the whole spill with customer on how its low on freon. Then recommend a leak search. Then it wont take any freon lol. I always check sc and sh before opening my mouth now
What if u have a new r410a unit with perfect pressures and sub cooling but only a 10 delta t doesn’t cool house if 80 or above outside was thinking the txv
I am Tech Support for those who sign commercial contracts of guarantee before they admit they've no horses of value in the barn. I see/pass on videos like yours a lot. I see too many repair people show up with almost no important skills, and if they cross my path again, one look at my notes and it's ob jobs they still have no important skills. Too bad. At some point, there isn't going to be enough qualified baby sitters to go around
You are using the wrong terminology it is refrigerant not freon. Freon is the name of the company that makes refrigerant. The correct term is refrigerant. Thanks
Dude shut up😂it don’t matter what he calls it as long as he knows what he’s doing with it. I bet you $100 you call tongue and groove pliers channel locks. It’s literally the same thing
Back up sir, terminology is a big deal. What if the client had 410A, Freon(Dupont) would be the incorrect terminology. I would have a hard time with a tech selling me on my unit being "Low on Freon"
Great video

I'm with u on that.cause I'm from Florida and alotta these techs out here they dont know much about diagnosticing the right thing.

@@travispoe4401 you welcome
Nice thanks a lot, you’re videos
Great and very Easy explanation. Thank you.
smack that power head a good few times and pull that sensing bulb out of the cabinet and hope for the best until replacement txv comes in
Thats true thats equivalent to when they tell you tap the starter or fuel pump to get a car going
New friends here. We met you on Dragon live chat. What a cool channel. We are looking forward to seeing more of your videos!

Having a TXV he should’ve checked it by subcooling not superheat
correction Freon is a Trademark Name if you will, The correct term is Refrigerant.

What if it’s the other way around ? Low side high and high side very low ? And high side like sweating? Please help
Thank you
Awesome job thank you so much
Could a liquid line restriction also be a possibility
Plugged filter drier
Good stuff
Thanks for the info..was helpful
Great information...Are there any abnormal audible indications when listening to the condenser fan and compressor running that a bad TXV would emit ?
There could be since the bad txv is starving the compressor of freon. Just depends but not always.
