- For our latest Homing In film, Matt Gibberd drops in on Johan Hybschmann, the co-founder of Archmongers, and Anita Freeman at Elemental House, their reimagined 1970s home in Hackney. Reconstructed with a minimal material palette and furnished with nods to Johan’s Danish heritage, Matt discovers a place of connectedness and retreat.

Such a lovely family, with a clear, humane vision for living in community, with nature and sustainability in mind. Going to bookmark this for future reference. Thank you!
I enjoyed watching this video. You can feel the love and thoughtfulness of the owners (and architect). Thank you.
I really like the marble juxtaposed with the white tiles in the bathroom. Like it’s shockingly luxurious in comparison. You almost appreciate it more than if the whole room was covered in it. Really nice detail
Yes, agreed, it's almost elevated further by the minimal and restrained use. Elegant, stylish opposed to garish and ostentatious.
This home is an absolute masterclass in thoughtful design and timeless living! 🏡✨
The balance of warmth, functionality, and longevity is truly inspiring every detail tells a story, and the connection between spaces is just brilliant! 👏🔥
It would be really helpful for these videos to have floorplans.
@@clarksonad the landing looks like the original space….1 square metre!
Agree, and a shot of the front at the start. Also, what is the presenter wearing? The lady should speak louder. Thx-cb
Why? To plan the heist? Nice try….
@@jamesmccaul2945 Perhaps you were joking - floorplans are always useful to gain both an insight and appreciation for the use of space.
I agree, I found it very different to work out the floor plan from this film
What a delightful conversation to take part in: between the three of you; between the old house structure and its new form; between the objects and fittings and their histories and their present use; between the house and its setting in a vibrant community ... so much going on there and yet a serene, peaceful, unfussy home and video. Thank you so much.
What gentle and interesting home owners - I enjoyed the conversation as much as I enjoyed the home. Being part of the renovation of your home turns it from a story into a love story. That is certainly reflected here.
What a wonderful home! Not excessively luxurious, just well made and very liveable! Congratulations.
I love this film. What a beautiful home and wonderful family. thank you
Well thought of house that was made to last a long time! Nice explanation for future aspiring architects
Gorgeous family, gorgeous house! ❤
Lovely house. Nice contrast between materials and colors. Equal mix modern, vintage, patinated and industrial. Then filled with danish design classics. Can't go wrong.
Beautifully designed❤
What a inspiring space! Love the colour combination with greyish LC2 sofa ❤
Great space!, all those tactile finishes and the muted colour pallet, perfect to set your designer objects and artwork off.
Such a lovely couple with an equally beautiful home.
I love the detail of the rain gutters, details do add up.
Such a claustrophobic video. I couldn’t finish it.
Such a great and thoughtful home 😍 very inspiring how they make use of space
What a fantastic house
I love what they did with it I would do the same the only change would be to give privacy to the rooms, sleeping quarters. It's fun they know the same people in arts as well.
Great ideas and clean appearance giving new life to a sad terraced home. Well done the owners. Hope the neighbourhood continues to be acceptable. Not everyone would relish that prospect!
Really loved this and enjoy all your films! You said no one in Denmark is watching, well here’s someone in Sweden, at least 🇸🇪😊
Beautiful home, lovely people!
10:20 love those marble tiles underneath the glass door frame
Simply, love this!
Love the juxtaposition of perfect and imperfect. It’s alive, like us.
I've been looking for those tiles for ages and now I know exactly what they are they are going in my new kitchen,
Beautiful home !
Beautiful house!
Loved the house and love your videos in general. What would be a very nice addition, if possible and if the owners agree of course, is to see some sort of very simple floor plan to get a better sense of the spaces and the overall distribution. In this video in particular, I am left wondering where exactly the kid's room is located and where the master bedroom is. Thank you and keep up the great videos!
Might be 3 levels-
Fabulous
Thank you for sharing😍😍
I love this house
So true with the vandskuret wall 😅
Thank you for sharing.. 😀
Making perfect for from imperfection……..brilliant…👌
Magnifique endroit ❤
really clever
I’m Danish and I love it all, haha :)
Seriously need a new camera and sound guy. Out of focus and uneven sound throughout these videos. Shame because the homes are so nice to see
Interesting house, but I had to keep raising and lowering the volume, the audio was off on this video! Audio is part of the experience, what happened here?
I guess it's about "perfection and imperfection"... ;-)
Matt Gibberd and crew--how do you do this? They are consistently so great. Another great one!
I love the open, airy look of it, but... the conundrum: where to put all your stuff in a small house (tools, equipment, hoover, cleaning materials, coats, etc., etc.)? My under-stairs cupboard is crammed full of stuff!
love
could someone tell me what colour red it is on the beam ? It's so beautiful !
Great film. Love Matt's questions - when are we going to see his home??
What questions? He’s hopeless as an interviewer. Energy vampire.
Safeword is right?
2:06 where is the water picture from? ❤
perfumed vainglory.
Just shows how you can make a rather ordinary house into something rather tasty, good design again shows how good bones can be improved and hides the extraordinary internal space, the external facade now looks cool too, right!…
Open riser stairs don't appear to comply with Part K.
No blinds / curtains to the sliding doors to the garden?
Just the one Eames Lounge chair / ottoman in front of the TV?
That man will take the stairs with him if they move!
great job! is it an ex council house?
@@iamyourfuture808 Good question but it’s in Hackney……..so that’s 90% yes but at one time thirty years ago it’s a cast iron certainty. Not many London architects can afford a house anywhere far less Hackney which is rental landlords heaven?
@@rjmacf0015 if you look at the houses surrounding it they look like council houses. I'm aware there are ex council properties worth an absolute fortune in some areas of london.
@@iamyourfuture808 Yup thats what I am pointing out....Its still a very good renovation but the costs are prohibitive for people without a major amount of capital to buy the ex council house far less the reno.
@@rjmacf0015 You are probably one, but all architects I have met were filthy rich... well maybe not as much as their clients, but you get the idea.
@ You clearly know a very odd and exquisitely small group of London based architects then and/or don't live anywhere near central London. The vast majority are poorly paid employees who work hard for clients who in the main are businesses not individuals. My daughter is one such professional who can't afford her rent far less buy an ex council house...even in Hackney.
It should be so nice to be in this house. It feels so great even from the screen 🤍✨
Right....
Interesting video as always but the camera and sound work is waaaaay down in standard than previous videos. Undermines it unfortunately.
👏
Nice place pity it's in london!!!
looks like IKEA have just re-released some vintage classics and that chair is back, SJALSO but different wooden colour way and no fingernails
Where is the stainless steel island from?
Alpes Inox
The Vandskuring looks just like my cement bag washed brick walls.
Who is the artist they are talking about?
Tiled floors, a lot of glass... a very por acoustics unless they used acoustic plasterboard.
Very Murray Mews
the Taps are a nationalistic gesture for a Dane aren't they? I think they are more expensive than replacement back light clusters for a Maclaren.
Who is Matt Gibberd and why does he show up to your house looking like he's a threat to the people living there? This is sooo uncomfortable. Seriously, the haircut, the camo, his age. Assume he killed them after this.
Prisoner of war chic, really? Scary League of Gentleman look.
oh, music....not good....but very nice film...
Audio levels are shocking - amateur hour
A bit too much personal details. Maybe concentrate on the design.
Guys, what happened? The videos you used to make were so well produced. The audio quality in this is almost unlistenable! And it was just too long. I miss the old Modern House where the homeowners narrated the videos.
I love the house and the couple are great but I couldn’t make it to the end of the video.
This house is terrible
Not really my cup of tea except the garden.
