      @@mattburkett9419 You ever had rice pudding for 30$ in a restaurant Oo Like the most expansive I've paid for a dessert was about 18$ CAD, and it was crepe suzette with the chef making it at your table, I really don't see how a rice pudding could cost up to 30$.

    • @loriki8766
      @loriki8766 3 роки тому +5

      Maybe she was guessing the price for 4 servings in a restaurant??? Depending on where you live, restaurant desserts are around $5/serving at cheap place and $10 at a fancier place.

    • @mattburkett9419
      @mattburkett9419 3 роки тому +10

      @@loriki8766 I can say with confidence gained from tons of travel in my 20's, that $5-10 for dessert is inexpensive, and what you would find at any average chain or maybe a casual restaurant in a small town where restaurants are much cheaper. In my city, average prices are high enough you'd rarely find desserts for less than $10.
      If we want to start talking about gourmet, boutique, or fine dining, and you're spending $100-500 per person, paying $30 for dessert is not surprising. And this could be for something as simple as a slice of cheesecake, but the ingredients themselves justify much of the price at any reputable restaurant.
      There's absolutely nothing wrong with never paying those prices, high cost doesn't necessarily make food better, and its really hard to justify a $10 taco, over a real $1 street taco. But you'll never find a tomahawk steak for $15.

    If you switched the rice to Basmati, and replaced the vanilla with some green cardamom, and (optionally) remove the cinnamon stick, you’d get a very common but delicious Indian dessert called “kheer.”
    It has cashews, almonds, and raisins in it too, in different combinations or all at once. You should try it Josh!

      That's my kind of creme brulee. I don't want flan, you know? I want it to be like pudding with bruleed sugar on top, and that's what his looked like to me...

    In Spain we infuse the milk of the rice pudding with orange and lemon peel (and also cinnamon of course!), and it’s delicious!

    These look divine. I love that you are breaking down things to show how to make them cheaper. What about ideas on using cheaper cuts of meat? For example, I see Pork Shoulder Boston Butt Steaks on sale or markdown a lot, but the internet searches for how to use them are less than inspiring. It would be great to know a way or two to make them in the kitchen and possibly even a way to do them on the grill. It would be great to know how to coax the most flavor out of some of the lesser used, more economical cuts of meat. Could the fat that rings the edge be cut off and frozen and rendered into lard when there is enough to mess with it?

    For some extra Valentine’s flair, you could buy a creme brûlée iron & let it heat up on the flame, then brûlée your creme right at the table. Nothing says “love” like a bit of drama!

    So if you want the rice pudding thicker and the rice isn't too mushy but well cooked, the sugar is added after the milk simmers. That's how my momma makes it, and sutlias is just a great turkish dessert 🤤

    I have a question about storage? I want to make this in advance(specifically the Rice Pudding
    ) before going to stay with my bf for Valentine's Day. How long can it be stored? iIs keeping it in the fridge okay?
    Also, since our anniversary is right after Valentine's Day, if I were to make the Creme Brûlée could I also store that ahead of time in the fridge for a day or two or three?
    I love your videos! Thank you for all the wonderful recipes!

    So, I'm laying in bed at 2:30 AM, watching this with volume at just below 50% on my phone. Thinking to myself, "def gonna make that creme brulee for V-Day," then the B-roll starts, and I panic to find the volume down button on my phone. Josh, that bass hits so hard, man. Maybe too hard.
