So the "resetting" thing is all about when the App you are using reloads the audio drivers. The HypeMiC will go to power save (blue light) when not using the audio drivers, so your phone battery doesn't drain. Hey Adelynn, awesome voice and guitar.👏👏👏👏 Thank you so much for your Apogee mic instructional video. I’ve had one for two years and I was ready to trash it. You really explain how to connect and position it. The part I really like is your demostratiom on how you can sing and play guitar using this mic. Ahhhh yes! You could try different placement with the mic but I love the idea of recording a performance with one mic focused on the voice and one mic focused on the guitar. You will get bleed-over but I found the performance is the most important and having them together at the same time but recorded on separate devices will give you a little more of that freedom :) Did you end up doing anything different?

Great review thank you! Great tunes too!! So in this video you were on compression setting 1 for most of the time? Any other processing? I’d love to hear an A/B of this hypemic with the cheaper apogee too!
Yes, the first compression setting is the best! For the video, I didn't put any compression so technically it was at level 0, but it sounds good on Level 1 for recording voice. Ooh that's brilliant! When I get my hands on the older mic again, I'll make sure to get that done for you!
@@adelynnmejia I picked one up but I can't seem to completely mute the mic. Do you know if that's possible? I want to be able to keep the 1/8 output connected to a speaker while recording but have the playback of the mic completely muted while recording to avoid feedback. Hmm maybe I'll have to return it.
@@TerryMaplePoco Hi Terry! Usually that means it's a software and set-up issue. What DAW do you use? If using Logic, you can deselect the "I" or Input monitoring, and when you first open it, there should have a pop-up that asks about Feedback settings. Otherwise, check Settings > Devices > Audio > and make sure the settings are correct, depending on your desired input and output.
@@adelynnmejia thanks for the reply! I was mostly going to use the mic as the audio for video filming in the Filmic Pro app on iPad. But then I want to watch the video on playback in the app with the audio coming out of the 1/8 out of HypeMic into a speaker. Not sure if I can mute the mic somehow.
Thank you! You're saying it doesn't need a DAW to sound good? It's designed for some video chats and calls, and for your phone too! I think it's pretty versatile, other than the restarting blip x)
You can use HypeMiC with any recording App you like, such as Garargeband, Auria, Cubasis, even the basic Voice Memo App. But you do have to use some type of recording software. The HypeMiC is just providing the input/output device, it is not itself a recording program.
Thanks for a great review and in particular sharing the issue with mobile GarageBand (I have not seen anyone else mention this). I am looking for a microphone to use together with GarageBand on iOS. Would you still recommend this microphone and set the levels afterwards or do you recommend to buy another microphone? Cheers
Thank you so much!! I'd recommend the cheaper version, the Apogee 96k if you're going to be recording and cutting and re-recording on Garageband mobile. I still feel like it'd be a matter of time before the HypeMiC will no longer have those issues and if you leave it on the first level of compression, then can fix it in post to your desired level, that is an additional option for you as well :)
When I have it on any of the compression settings I get a loud hissing noise. The only way to avoid the hissing sound is if I have all compression setting off and the gain pretty low. Any idea of how to avoid this because your video sounds really silent in the background? I’m using it with GarageBand on my iPad so I’m thinking maybe that’s the reason why and that maybe it wouldn’t happen if I used it with a MacBook Pro and not an iPad? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Ian and my apologies for not getting back sooner! Yes, in the recording of this video, I had zero compression and low gain too! I simply edited it louder in post. But a hissing noise, that’s something I’m pretty curious about… I’ll research more about that and get back to you, it may be a connection issue (like the wire is faulty) or a setting issue.
Oof, okay it looks like other people have had this issue too, but with their Apogee Duets (the interface). Best solution is to take it up with Apogee Tech Support because they can replace any faulty wires or troubleshoot you every step of the way. Here’s the link to get support: www.apogeedigital.com/contact-support.php
Hello!thanks for your sharing!i just want to ask you which daw you use? And if you use Logic Pro , how you setting(plug in eq compressor reverb or something)before you recording. Because every time when I hear that voice record by hype mic , i always can’t catch my pefect sound in my mind😢😢😢😢
Hi! My pleasure :) I use Logic Pro X! I use the first compression level while recording. From there, I fix it up in post by using a Noise Gate, adding any additional compression if needed, and some reverb. I play with the vocal filters too; Natural Vocal is my favorite, and I play with it from there :) What sound are you looking for?
ya i love it too!(natural voice) but my recorded sound ismuffled😭😭 can we change instagram and please you send the picture you setting vocal in logic pro.
Set up tutorial using a DAW? I'm having trouble achieving consistency. I like to monitor mic input but some vocalist don’t. How do I set that up? How do I set up Talkback using Mac’s built-in microphone and have it work in conjunction with the HypeMic? I use Audio Midi Set Up > Audio Devices, but it gives me technical difficulties more often then not. Is there a better way to do this or am I setting up my input and outputs wrong?
Hi! Thanks for your comment :) Ooh this is a great question. Some follow-ups for you: would you be open to having TalkBack set-up through HypeMic as well and come in through the headphones? Or would you be open to a separate device with TalkBack so there's no crossover?
Hi Robert! Awesome question. It depends on your guitar sound quality. If you like the sound of your guitar, the mic makes that beauty stand out. If you don’t like the sound of the guitar, I’d suggest investing in an instrument that has a tone that you enjoy. Until then, you can use filters or make do with the quality starting out. Even if it’s not perfect, making content you can look back on is better than no content at all.
@@adelynnmejia Hi Adelynn! Actualy I was joking! I have a yt channel devoted to the 12 string guitar and mine is absolutely priceless. I have been recording it with a cheap mic and it doesn't do it justice. Unfortunately the HypMic is well outside my price range for the moment so I bought a cheaper version. @@BullCraftMaxx Congrats on your new mic!! So glad to hear it :) Enjoy! And let me know if you have any new vids recording with it, would love to hear!
Hi Percy! Fabulous question. It directly connects to the iPhone so when you use the video, it'll reflect! It may take a moment for it to realize it's being recorded so watch the mic light color, you want it to be moving and green/yellow, not purple or off completely. So there's no need to use an extra program. I personally love using it for my native Voice Memo app!
Hi - I want to use this for Mobile I just bought all your equipment. Is Garage band still the best app to use? Did they fix the issue where the settings default and you have to fix in post production? Lastly to make this video you sound great when playing the guitar - did you change anything in post for this video - ( were you playing this through your monitors because I see you were NOT connected to an Iphone or Laptop? Thanks a million :)
Amazing comment, congrats on your new rig! Alright let’s tackle this one by one: 1) Garage Band works swell, not sure if it’s the best because I haven’t tried anything on Logic Remote or any android. 2) No, they have not. But I learned to check levels and gain for myself according to the meter. When you practice and do it enough, you learn which levels are ideal for you and can raise the level properly. I check post anyway to level out, enhance, and clean up any noise. 3) thanks so much! I connected the mic to Photo Booth where it aligned with the video, then I raised the volume in post with Final Cut Pro (at the time, I didn’t know how to level properly, so I left it all on default so it could be the same). 4) The headphones connect to the mic which acts as your monitor. At the time of recording this, I connected the mic to the laptop, which was recording video and audio at the same time :) Hope this helps! Do you have any other questions?
@@adelynnmejia You are awesome! Thanks so much for your reply. You absolutely helped. Just curious the only other USB mic I think sounds great is the Shure MV7 - would be awesome to hear if you had the chance to compare the 2. I do like the warm consistent sound of the Apogee. I feel the Shure is a bright full strong sound but not AS soft as the Apogee. I wonder if you have any thoughts on that too :)
Hi Gabi! Awesome question :) The pop filter and stand I bought at my local guitar store. The stand is in the description and the pop filter is a standard one you can find in any music store :)
How does it works tho....if i use it on my phone then i won't be able to hear myself louder tho right... only on recordings? Or only with Headphones? I don't get it
Hi Amelie! What app are you using? Because if you have Input Monitoring on, then you can connect a 3.5mm headphone jack and hear yourself. If it’s just through your voice memos or a social media app, you will not be able to hear yourself through headphones as you record it.
So I just bought this mic to use on GarageBand IOS. I just saw you said you don’t recommend it for that which sucks. Is it completely impossible to record, or is it just annoying?? I’m stressing now. 😭
Hi Jess, don’t stress! It records everything alright, you just need to adjust levels later :) no need to return, but do experiment! And when I reached out to Apogee they said it’s a software problem, so it’s a matter of letting the technology catch up with the hardware :)

Hello hello low! Please keep in mind, as convenient as the HypeMic is, FL Studio still recommends analog over any USB mics. Good luck, and let me know if the underwater thing goes away!
@@lowkey.8448 Oh no! Hmm well, you have the option to switch over to analog :) It helps to do one step at a time. Also, I wouldn't have guessed English wasn't your first, you're very good!
That’s a really good point!! Haha I got it because I wanted to be independent of other studios, it was really empowering to do everything from my own home. I’d recommend the Apogee 96k for you :) It’s essentially the same thing but half the price!
@@adelynnmejia I already ordered the Apogee Hypemic. 😂 Took an hour of me being fickle but the sound was great. I’ve always been in bands but I’m now writing a singer/songwriter album so money well spent. I also don’t care for producers, most are vultures, so I’ve built my own studio. @@adelynnmejia Hey, no worries and it’s a great review by the way. This apogee microphone is great unit but I think it would be a little bit unjust to compare it to U87. It’s a reason that U87 is the “god father” for any VO recording in most of the pro studios. Thanks
@@The1mars1 Interesting. For some who don't have that big of a budget, it's a great way to start. I don't have any experience with the U87, which is why I referred to the other videos, but I'd love to know your thoughts on the differences, just for my knowledge!
@@adelynnmejia I’m sound post production engineer, so I mostly work with Film & Tv content rather than music. In our studios we have wide range of Neumann mic's for either voice over recordings and ADR. With classic mic like U87 you connect mic via XLR cable which free from any interference to a dedicated mic pre- amp. Good mic pre-amp is very important in the recording signal flow. But it all start with good acoustically treat VO booth and studio control room. People often invest fair amount of money into microphones, pre-amps etc and are surprised why their recording doesn't sound too good at the end. Anyway in our pro set up, we never use USB connection. This would be one of and more likely the biggest difference.

I play with the vocal filters too; Natural Vocal is my favorite, and I play with it from there :) What sound are you looking for?
ya i love it too!(natural voice)
but my recorded sound ismuffled😭😭
can we change instagram
and please you send the picture you setting vocal in logic pro.
@@Yanfengli Sure thing! @adelynnmejia :) It sounds like it may be mic placement. Talk soon!
@@adelynnmejia Ohh me too! Goshh, I'm so happy that I found others suffering from this same issue! Could you also send me the settings you use? T__T
This was a great video! What attachment (shock mount) are you using to keep the mic in place?
Thanks so much! Awesome question, I use an A55M from Shure.

Also it has been some time lol so did you get it resolved?
@@adelynnmejia Added an audio interface and an extra mic to the mix.
Any updates on the software?
This mic costs 4 times more than my guitar, but will it make my guitar sound better?
(AU - A03T) I record on my iPhone. Have a nice day.
@@kingrobert1st lol!! My sarcasm detector is defective online lol Ooh I love that. Listening to your stuff now, you're so talented and hilarious! And the guitar sounds FANTASTIC!
@@adelynnmejia Oh really? I was using a really cheap mic. My guitar sounds amazing just acoustic. I hope you left a nasty comment before hiiting the dislike button! lol
Hi, can this mic be used by ipad pro ? have cable type c ? Thank you
Hi! Excellent question :) I haven’t yet used it on an iPad, but according to the site, yes! You’re able to use it just fine :) it comes with a thunderbolt, usb, and lighting adapter
What Mic stand is that? Specifically, the one for the desk
I have the mic and am looking for a better stand
@@BullCraftMaxx Thank you for your question! I left a link in the description, let me know if that works for you :)
@@adelynnmejia Ah I see it now, sorry I missed it. Thanks so much! I love my HypeMic so much too!
@@BullCraftMaxx Congrats on your new mic!! So glad to hear it :) Enjoy! And let me know if you have any new vids recording with it, would love to hear!
Do you have to have a program to use the microphone? Or can you just connect it to the iPhone directly and sound the same?
Alright let’s tackle this one by one:
1) Garage Band works swell, not sure if it’s the best because I haven’t tried anything on Logic Remote or any android.
At the time of recording this, I connected the mic to the laptop, which was recording video and audio at the same time :)
Hope this helps!
What mix stand do you have I definitely need one for my apogee mic
Hi Retro! Awesome question :) It's linked in the bio. It's squishy suction so you can fit virtually any (reasonably sized) mic in it! Best, Adelynn
Where did you bought you pop filter and your stand?
@@adelynnmejia Thank you soo much! I feel so much better about it now!
What's your microphone bracket? It looks pretty fit for Apogee HypeMic.
Yes! I use an A55M from Shure. Great observation, you got a keen eye!

im trying it with fl studio mobile but i makes so weird noises like im under water or on the moon or somethin .. what do i ned to set up to get a clear sound ?
Hello hello low! Great question, there’s this great guide regarding FL Studio and USB mics: www.image-line.com/fl-studio-learning/fl-studio-online-manual/html/recording_audio_USBmic.htm There are a few steps to set it up, so do let me know if it works for you. Please keep in mind, as convenient as the HypeMic is, FL Studio still recommends analog over any USB mics. Good luck, and let me know if the underwater thing goes away!

Nope! Direct plug and play :)

Oooof brownie points for you, Takko.
300$ for a iPhone mic tho..... might as well record in the studio with a better mic. But then again I do want one. Then again.. it’s 300$
Sometimes you just wanna be outside or somewhere else and do a cover though. Thanks!

latency during recording has nothing to do with a microphone
I love this comment. I saw other reviews about the direct in causing less latency which is why I brought it up. I should’ve looked it up earlier, you’re right! It depends on the latency and bandwidth. Thanks for correcting me!
Great review. I have this mic and Its excellent. Question however, What kind of mount do you have it sitting in? Ive been looking for something similar for months.
